“Poker Face” is an original mystery series on Peacock.

After its Season 2 renewal in February 2023, Rian Johnson’s and Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face, the case-of-the-week mystery series, will be back for more sleuthing this year.

Season 1 of the Peacock show featured 10 episodes of Lyonne’s Charlie Cale, a Vegas casino worker whose keen sense of honesty leads to a Columbo-style show and reverse detective format. Johnson, who also has Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery in the works with a stacked cast, describes the show as a “howcatchem” versus a “whodunit” which is the format of the Knives Out and Glass Onion films.

“Poker Face” Season 2 is gearing up for a release this spring on Peacock.

The much-anticipated second installment of Rian Johnson’s mystery-of-the-week series will debut in spring 2025, Peacock announced on Tuesday. Season 2 will see Natasha Lyonne reprise her starring role as Charlie as she outruns her adversaries in her Plymouth Barracuda, which brings her to a number of mysteries across the country she can’t help but solve.

Season 2 will premiere over two years after “Poker Face” first debuted in January 2023, which featured a star-studded cast including Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Stephanie Hsu, Clea DuVall and Ron Perlman, to name a few.

This season will be no different, with this batch of guest stars including Alia Shawkat, Awkwafina, Ben Marshall. B.J. Novak, Carol Kane, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Corey Hawkins, Cynthia Erivo, David Krumholtz, Davionte “GaTa” Ganter, Ego Nwodim, Gaby Hoffmann, Giancarlo Esposito, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Ritter, John Cho,...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed Buffy Summer and her Scooby gang as they protected Sunnydale from vampires, demons, and any other supernatural threat that came up. The first couple of seasons featured mostly stand-alone stories, or “vampire of the week” as they were dubbed. It also adopted ending some episodes with little twists or questions, which was a popular storytelling device in the '90s on sci-fi and fantasy shows like The X-Files.

One such episode was season one’s “Out of Mind, Out of Sight.” Buffy and friends took on an invisible girl out for revenge against the popular kids. LA’s 42nd annual William S. Paley Television Festival, otherwise known as PaleyFest, is right around the corner, set to kick off on March 21 and run through until March 29. The event will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Now, The Paley Center for Media has announced new stars coming to the event, including Severance veterans Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, and Gwendoline Christie joining the already-attending Adam Scott and Ben Stiller. Also joining the lineup of new stars are Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp joining Agatha All Along’s Kathryn Hahn, with Hacks’ stars Carl Clemsons-Hopkins and Mark Indelicato even coming to the event as well. Lastly, Poker Face’s own Kumail Nanjiani and Clea DuVall will be at the event, along with Elisabeth Moss, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and more.

PaleyFest LA just got even more star-studded as the Paley Center for Media announced a new round of celebrity guests joining for the upcoming March event.

The TV festival, which will run from March 21 to March 29, typically gathers the cast and crew of the year’s most buzzy shows to premiere episodes, dissect those that have already aired, share behind-the-scenes moments, and more.

This year’s lineup is below, though things are still subject to change.

The Paley Center announced Thursday that the panels for Agatha All Along, Hacks, Severance and Poker Face have expanded to include even more of the casts than previously announced.

Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp will join Kathryn Hahn and Jac Schaeffer for a discussion about their witchy Marvel Television series, while Carl Clemons-Hopkins and Mark Indelicato will be there for the conversation about their HBO comedy.

You know you're old when Hollywood starts remaking films released when you were in high school. Premiering on Christmas day in 1998, The Faculty was the meta answer to sci-fi films in the same way 1996's Scream was to the slasher movie sub-genre. It was a modest hit upon release, but it has gone on to develop a major cult following with genre fans. This was bound to happen sooner or later, and it looks like that time is now, because a remake is officially in the works.

Per Variety, a remake of The Faculty is set at Miramax and the director of the original film, Robert Rodriguez, is on board as a producer. What makes this remake news promising is that Drew Hancock is writing the project. Now, thirteen months later, Variety has finally confirmed that scoop – and they have also revealed that the screenplay for the remake is being written by Drew Hancock, writer/director of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which reaches theatres tomorrow. Poker Face is prepping for a big return in 2025, so here's a quick reminder of how this quirky Peacock mystery series unfolded in season 1.

Created by Riann Johnson, Poker Face is basically a love letter to the TV mystery movies of the 1970s. The pilot introduced us to Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), a Vegas card shark with a sardonic attitude. She's enlisted by Sterling Frost Jr (Adrian Brody), son of a powerful mobster and casino boss who wants to use Charlie in a classic setup of being a "ringer" for a rich guy and bilk him in a card game.

You just have to wonder what took his son so long to make another movie. That biting, back-stabbing comedy still holds up and showcases the talents of a filmmaker who can embed comedy within any genre.

I mention this because Weekend in Taipei is a comedy wrapped in an action film. This doesn’t mean the movie’s tone is uneven or unsure of itself—far from it. While Huang’s script occasionally stumbles into a few tropes, like Luc Besson’s mysterious character arc or a Parent Trap-esque subplot, the experience is refreshing, super cool, funny, and ultimately one hell of a ride.

Sarah Michelle Gellar will likely always be known as an icon of genre work and supernatural teen dramas, but she's given great performances besides her star-making role in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. While fans of Buffy will always see Gellar as the heroine of the beloved TV show, before, during, and after Buffy was on the air, Gellar lent her talents to plenty of projects of multiple genres. However, some of the best have leaned into her skills in horror, as she's an expert at blending comedy into serious and violent moments, which always elevates a scary movie.

Amid the show’s election year resurgence, the Golden Globe winner reasoned that her morally bankrupt politician character Selina Meyer is more like Donald Trump than his opponent Kamala Harris.

“In Veep, I play a very unhappy vice president, and at a certain point in a run of the show, I have the opportunity to run for president,” she explained on MSNBC.

“Now, I do want to say one thing about the character I play on Veep. I do want to say I play a very, shall we say, almost narcissistic, sociopathic, mega-maniacal type of person,” added Louis-Dreyfus. “I am not a Kamala Harris type. IndieWire After Dark is practicing the fundamentals over the next four weeks, kicking off a fall semester of midnight movies that’s all about students, teachers, parents, and the lethal side of learning. Yes, the following recommendations are education-themed — but they’re also great building blocks for any new students in this school of cinema.

Not unlike Harvard, Yale, or the elite university in “Halloween H20,” the admissions rate for titles featured in our weekly watch-and-rewatch club is competitive. We want to see every Tubi, Freevee, and fringe Shudder effort out there.

In 1985, John Hughes set a template for high school archetypes in his classic film The Breakfast Club. The brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess and the criminal became part of our collective consciousness while expanding ideas of adolescent identity. But 13 years later, these stereotypical roles had begun to feel stifling. While reassuring to know that each identity is valid, the tendency to define your life by an external ideal could keep young adults from overcoming the fear of being themselves. In 1998, Robert Rodriguez applied a sci-fi lens to these classic archetypes in The Faculty, a teen horror film that explores the terror of conformity. A high school faculty taken over by monsters becomes the backdrop for a nuanced dissection of stereotypical expectations and discontent adolescence in a treacherous high school environment built to dehumanize.
