Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.

Back to Life is being given even more life. The series has been renewed for a second season before its first season wraps on Showtime. The season one finale is set to air on November 24. The series stars Daisy Haggard, Geraldine James, Richard Durden, Adeel Akhtar, Jo Martin, Jamie Michie, Christine Bottomley, and Liam Williams.

Season one of the series was released entirely by Showtime before it aired on the network, so the on-air ratings were low. The series averaged 150,000 viewers a week.

Showtime has given a second season to the Daisy Haggard comedy “Back to Life,” the network announced Tuesday.

Created by and starring Haggard, “Back to Life” centers on Miri Matteson, who, after 18 years behind bars, returns home and stumbles back into adult life in the coastal town she once knew, while the mystery of her past looms large. It is set to wrap its six-episode first season on Nov. 24.

“‘Back to Life’ is a charming, funny and introspective comedy that resonates beautifully with Showtime viewers,” said Jana Winograde, president of Entertainment. “With such sharp writing and sensitive, winning performances from Daisy and the cast, we are confident that this gem from across the pond has even more delights to share with us in season two.”

Showtime is to co-produce a second season of Daisy Haggard’s comedy Back to Life with the BBC.

The CBS-owned premium network has boarded the dark comedy as a co-production partner after acquiring the first season.

The first season of the show, which is created and written by Daisy Haggard and Laura Solon, launched on Showtime November 10 and the six-part series wraps on November 24 with two back-to-back episodes. The first season aired on BBC Three in the UK in April.

“Back to Life” was created and written by Daisy Haggard and Laura Solon, with Haggard starring as Miri Matteson who, after 18 years behind bars, returns home and stumbles back into adult life in the coastal town she once knew, while the mystery of her past looms large.

The renewal announcement was made by Showtime presidents of entertainment Gary Levine and Jana Winograde.

Rarely, though, has a show felt like such a savvy and necessary blend of the two than Daisy Haggard‘s six-part series “Back to Life,” premiering on Showtime after airing in the U.K. earlier this spring.

“Couples Therapy,” from “Weiner” filmmakers Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg, and Eli Despres, follows four couples in their weekly therapy sessions with Dr. Orna Guralnik, a world-class therapist who guides the couples through the “real-life struggles — and extraordinary breakthroughs — typically hidden behind closed doors.”

One of the earliest and most foreboding images in Churchill comes as a put-upon Prime Minister stands by the sea. As the tides gently roll in, his famous Homburg hat blows into the water and when he bends down to retrieve it, the tide appears to him to be reddened with blood. Regrettably, it's the first and last cinematic beat in a film that puts its lead character's inner turmoil upfront.

It's June 1944, and Winston Churchill (Brian Cox) cuts a less impressive figure than he did when he was inspiring the people of Britain as they came under attack from Nazi forces years earlier. In fact, he finds himself listing in the margins of an Allied high command led by Dwight D. Eisenhower (John Slattery) as they plan Operation Overlord and the Dunkirk landings.

I’m far from a history buff. To me Winston Churchill was a pillar of strength that helped take down the Nazis and declare victory for the Allied forces against fascism. I don’t believe that’s an ill-advised description by any means, but it’s definitely a shallow one. Here we are half a century removed from that carnage and our memories are mostly divided into two categories: good and evil. The latter holds the Holocaust, genocide, oppressive regimes, the suspension of freedom, and some of our species’ greatest villains. The former contains pride, valor, hope, and success with names like Churchill, Eisenhower, and Fdr rising to the status of sainthood. But the truth is much more complicated. Heroism and leadership co-exist with aching regret. Even the greats must combat defeat.

Codenamed Operation Neptune, the Normandy landings of World War II have gone on to inspire storytellers in the vein of Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan) and Darryl F. Zanuck, who was part of the creative team behind wartime epic The Longest Day.

It’s not hard to locate a film built around the infamous D-day landings, then, but it becomes more difficult to find a character-driven drama that sheds light on the politics behind the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France. Enter Churchill, Jonathan Teplitzky’s (The Railway Man) star-studded biopic that places the great Brian Cox in the shoes of the tenacious British Bulldog. Shackled with depression and a startling loss of confidence, by June 1944, Winston Churchill is “a shadow of the hero” he once was, and all of this feeds his reservations about shipping over a million soldiers to the European theater of war.

As is so often the case in cinema, when one drama about a particular subject or figure comes along, another one arrives soon after. Before Joe Wright’s Gary Oldman-led drama Darkest Hour hits theaters later this year, another historical drama about Winston Churchill will arrive this summer. In the aptly-named Churchill, Brian Cox portrays the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the first trailer has now landed.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man), this drama takes place specifically right before D-Day and follows Churchill’s internal battle in making the decision to send troops to certain death. Scripted by Alex von Tunzelmann, Cox certainly seems fitting for the part, so this should be a worthy warm-up to Wright’s film, and even another WWII film this summer: Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Lionsgate has released the UK trailer for its upcoming historical drama/thriller “Churchill.” The film about the legendary British Primer Minister hails from Australian director Jonathan Teplitzky (“The Railway Man”), from a screenplay by British author/historian Alex von Tunzelmann. Here is the plot summary: In June 1944, allied Forces stand on the brink: a million soldiers are secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to invade Nazi-occupied Europe. As with Deep Impact and Armageddon, White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen there are to be two films released in 2017 focusing on Winston Churchill. Joe Wright is following up his gaze into the Black Mirror with Darkest Hour, which looks at the fight against Hitler in the early days of World War II. An almost unrecognisable Gary Oldman is our Churchill in Wright’s film, alongside Lily James, Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn and the late John Hurt in his last filmed role.

Lionsgate have Brian Cox as their Prime Minister in the new film from The Railway Man director Jonathan Teplitzky. Unambiguously titled Churchill, the film sees Cox lead a cast which includes Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, Ella Purnell, Richard Durden, Julian Wadham and James Purefoy.

In contrast to Darkest Hour this take on Churchill’s life finds its feet on the days approaching the D-Day landings.

Exclusive: Soho shoot is now underway on Steve Mclean’s Postcards From London.

Steve McLean’s follow-up to his 1994 Sundance and Indie Spirit-nominated drama Postcards From America has commenced a four-week shoot in Soho, London.

Postcards From London tells the story of a teenage boy who travels from his small hometown to the English capital in search of fame and fortune.

The project is funded with support from the BFI and Creativity Capital. Soledad Gatti Pascual of Diablo Films produces. The Bureau Sales has boarded international sales rights and London-based Peccaddillo Pictures will distribute in the UK and Ireland.

Harris Dickinson stars alongside Jonah Hauer-King and Richard Durden.

First look at Brian Cox as the wartime leader as Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, James Purefoy and Ella Purnell join cast.

Salon Pictures has announced that principal photography has begun in Scotland on its new feature film, Churchill.

Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy) plays the Second World War leader in the 48-hours preceding D-Day in May 1944, when Churchill had to prepare a final attempt to crush Hitler’s encroaching army.

The cast is rounded out with Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter, Testament of Youth) as wife Clemmie Churchill, with John Slattery (Mad Men) as General Eisenhower, James Purefoy (Rome) as King George VI, and rising-star Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Tarzan) joining the cast as Churchill’s secretary.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man), the film is written by British historian and author Alex von Tunzelmann in her feature debut.

Cohen Media Group has released the first ten minutes clip of Nick Murphy’s supernatural thriller The Awakening which opens in select cities on Friday, August 17th, 2012.

Rebecca Hall plays Florence Cathcart, a paranormal investigator attempting to debunk the numerous ghost sightings throughout England, when she’s called to a boarding house where a young boy has been murdered. The school matron (Imelda Staunton) is convinced that the place is haunted and that only Cathcart can put an end to the horrors experienced by the entire staff and students.

Dominic West, Lucy Cohu, John Shrapnel, Diana Kent, Richard Durden, and Alfie Field are also featured in the movie.
