The Monopoly movie is back on the table, and any worries about a board game adaptation might be put to rest as the directing duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is joining the project. Created in 1935 and drawing heavily from The Landlord Game, Monopoly is one of the most popular (and frustrating) games of all-time. The game is known worldwide and licensed in over 100 countries in multiple languages, with dozens of versions based on popular IPs. The iconic image of the Monopoly Guy or phrases like "get out of jail free card" and the various game pieces have become part of the cultural lexicon. Despite the fact that there is no true story about the game, that doesn't mean Hollywood hasn't tried to take this popular IP and turn it into a feature film, and they might have finally found the team to bring it to life.

The Battle of Britain has inspired several war films, including two strikingly similar releases in 2018 – Hurricane and 303 Squadron. Both set out to tell the story of the Polish pilots of No. 303 Squadron Raf, a group that played a crucial yet often overlooked role in Britain’s defense. Yet, despite sharing the same premise, the two films take dramatically different approaches, with only one standing out as an effective war epic.
Hurricane captures the intensity of the battle with exhilarating aerial combat scenes, all while maintaining a strong character-driven story. On the other hand, 303 Squadron opts for a more straightforward historical reenactment that struggles to build emotional engagement. While both aim to honor the same heroes, only Hurricane finds the right balance between action and story, while 303 Squadron falls short with its unimaginative performances and pacing.

Throughout film history, the war genre has always been very appealing to many different audiences. Directors put tedious effort into choreographing epic battles while trying to honor the truth in historically defining moments. War films draw attention from both history buffs and general film lovers who are looking to see extravagance on the big screen.
The war genre has no shortage of content and many films are still being made today, capturing the past to the best likeness. Currently, the Peacock streaming network is home to numerous war movies, some of which are the best ever made.
Zulu Chronicles the British Defeat at the Hands of the Zulu Nation Zulu (1964)
Zulu follows the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879 where colonial British Forces were defeated by the Zulu nation. Less than 200 British forces went up against over 4000 Zulu warriors in one of the most significant battles of the Anglo-Zulu war at Rorke's Drift.

Britain's television landscape has often been linked with gritty characters, compelling storylines, and complex dramas, with no genre embodying those traits quite like an iconic British spy series. The British fiction's fascination with spies and espionage can be traced back to Ian Fleming's iconic James Bond character from 1953, which garnered worldwide attention and acclaim. Though other countries produce quality works in the genre, the British versions tend to have a biting dialogue mixed with intricate, layered narratives that create some of the most intense, thrilling shows of all time.
Uniquely British spy series from older generations, such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, shows the complexity of the genre and the underlying tension and psychological pressures that agents must endure on their missions. Angela Bassett joined the Mission: Impossible franchise as CIA Director Erika Sloane in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The actress was slated to reprise the role for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, but was forced to drop out due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. Thankfully, the Mission: Impossible franchise isn’t done with Angela Bassett.
While speaking with Variety on the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One red carpet, director Christopher McQuarrie spilled a few details on how Angela Bassett would have fit into the new film, while also teasing that we’ll be seeing her again. “It’s interesting, she was going to be the head of the CIA, she was going to be in that room with all the other heads of the intelligence community that you meet,” McQuarrie said. “And we’re not done with Angela Bassett.” McQuarrie continued, “Angela is too fabulous. When it comes to screen tests, most involve the actor(s) performing a scene to the camera. Some, like the recent Superman: Legacy screen tests, also involve full costume and makeup, but when it comes to the Mission: Impossible franchise, they want to make sure you can keep up with the action. Hayley Atwell revealed to The Telegraph that her screen test for Grace in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One was two hours of stunt choreography.
Hayley Atwell performed her Mission: Impossible screen test with stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood, which she said involved “two hours of stunt choreography just to see where my natural abilities lay.” Atwell continued, “We did an unarmed combat sequence and mixed martial arts to see if I was someone who could grapple and trap or someone who was more into high kicks. [It’s to] ascertain my natural style.“

The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere is happening in Rome this afternoon, with stars, filmmakers, and press gathering to celebrate the latest chapter of the action-packed blockbuster franchise. After posing on a red carpet along the Spanish Steps, Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie began fielding questions from excited press members. Speaking with Deadline, McQuarrie commented on the likelihood of directing a film in the James Bond franchise one day.
“I like watching James Bond movies,” McQuarrie said when asked if he’d be game to help create a film in the famed 007 franchise. “The fun of those is going and getting to actually sit down and watch them, and not worry about whether or not I messed it up. I just enjoy watching them.” Adding to the conversation, McQuarrie says writing the movie and directing might not sweeten the pot. “That would come in handy,” McQuarrie said about writing the film.

On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every other day throughout the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. The Free Movie of the Day we have for you today is the crime thriller Magic Mountains. You can watch it over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
Written and directed by Urszula Antoniak, Magic Mountains has the following synopsis: A successful writer asks his ex, who left him, to climb one last time in the mountains together. Only then he can really let her go.
So no, it doesn’t have anything to do with the Six Flags amusement park Magic Mountain. But that synopsis does sound quite ominous, so we should probably be ready to see some thrilling things happen far above ground.

I hope Ethan Hunt knows a good biscuit recipe because Hannah Waddingham is joining the cast of Mission: Impossible 7. The Ted Lasso star is mixing it up for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, director Christopher McQuarrie revealed on Friday via Instagram. The image posted to McQuarrie’s account depicts Waddingham wearing a “boring man beige” colored cap and standing aboard what looks like an aircraft carrier or fortified military base. With a serious look, Waddingham is all business while remaining snug in her matching jacket with a fuzzy brown collar. The caption for the post includes the hashtags #Godspeed and #DeadReckoning.

Indeed, Paramount woke up on the wrong side of the money pile and didn’t know what they were suggesting. Let’s dig into this story and find out more, shall we? During the Paramount panel at the 2023 Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference on March 8th, Bob Bakish, president of Paramount Global, revealed test screening for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has begun, and the studio has thoughts about the film’s runtime.

Ethan Hunt’s next death-defying adventure won’t roll out in theaters until next summer, but Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie has teased the meaning behind the vague title while speaking with Empire.
“There are many things emerging from Ethan’s past,” Christopher McQuarrie said. “‘Dead reckoning’ is a navigational term. It means you’re picking a course based solely on your last known position and that becomes quite the metaphor not only for Ethan, but several characters.” Make of that what you will, but it’s important to note that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is the first half of a two-parter, which McQuarries teases will be epic. “The first thing we knew was that if it’s gonna be a big two-part adventure, it’s got to be epic,” McQuarrie said. “It’s going to have to be the instalment that swallows the rest of the franchise whole.

“I approach it from the chess itself,” says “The Queen’s Gambit” costume designer Gabriele Binder about how the game at the heart of the series influenced her work. She wanted to create “something structural, something geometrical, it’s black and white,” but in a “subtle” way that didn’t overemphasize the references. “She is chess, so we go with a very straight and very minimalist and also contrasting look to tell this story with the costumes.” We talked with Binder as part of our “Meet the Experts” panel with Emmy nominated costume designers. Music is typically one of the final elements created for a film or TV show, but for “The Queen’s Gambit,” it was one of the first. That’s because the Netflix hit was the third collaboration between writer and director Scott Frank and composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, who first met 17 years ago when Rivera was Frank’s guitar teacher. Rivera has since scored Frank’s 2014 film “A Walk Among the Tombstones” and the Netflix limited series “Godless,” for which he won an Emmy.
“In April of 2018, I got an email from Scott and the subject said, ‘The Queen’s Gambit.’ It said, ‘This looks like the next thing we may be doing for Netflix,'” Rivera tells Gold Derby at our Meet the Experts: TV Composers panel (watch above). “I started writing immediately because of the way I came into this world.”

"We never argued in the mountains." Level 33 Entertainment has released an official US trailer for an indie out-in-nature thriller from The Netherlands titled Magic Mountains, by Polish writer / director Urszula Antoniak. The film's intriguing, mysterious setup is what makes it so compelling: a successful writer asks his ex, who left him years ago, to climb one last time in the mountains together. Only then he can really let her go... Or at least that's what he claims. Their guide senses something is up and refuses to leave Hannah alone with him in the moutnains. The film stars Thomas Ryckewaert as Lex, Hannah Hoekstra as Hannah, and Marcin Dorocinski as their guide Voytek. This has some outstanding cinematography, more muted and greyer than usual for nature, but that's to achieve a melancholic feeling for the story. I'm quite curious. Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Urszula Antoniak's Magic Mountains,...

Anya Taylor-Joy won big at the Golden Globes awards this year, snagging the Best Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture for TV award for her lead role in Netflix's The Queen's Gambit. Despite the series only running for one season, it quickly became a critical darling and an audience favorite. Following the actress's Golden Globes win, the call for a second season of the show gathered renewed strength online. In an interview with Et Online, Taylor-Joy expressed her willingness to return for a new season, the prospects of which appear unlikely at this point.
"Maybe. Not to disappoint anybody, but we just never thought about it. It was always a sapling to tree transition. You see her grow, you leave her in a good place. So we were genuinely surprised when people were like, 'Where's season 2?' That being said, I adore the entire team that made it...

On paper, Netflix's recent breakout hit miniseries The Queen's Gambit doesn't sound very exciting: Tracing the journey of chess prodigy Beth Harmon on the path to becoming a world champion with one chess match after another. Yet, the way Anya Taylor-Joy portrays Beth, and the way the matches are filmed make for as exciting viewing as watching an epic battle with swords and shields.
In an interview with IndieWire, Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that the initial plan had been for her to memorize each move for each game ahead of filming. (Editor’s note: The following piece contains spoilers for “The Queen’s Gambit,” including the ending.)
By the time Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), the beguiling central figure of “The Queen’s Gambit,” has sex for the first time, she has already survived the death of her mother, a harrowing orphanage stint, developed multiple addictions, and wiped the floor with chess masters twice her age. She reaches coolly across the nightstand to light a cigarette, strawberry curls framing a placid expression, as if she’s performed this time-honored post-coital ritual a million times before. Gazing across the endless divide with puppy dog eyes, her odd bedfellow asks sheepishly, “So, um…should I stay here or go back to my room?” Without glancing up from her book of chess plays, she replies nonchalantly: “Whatever you want.”
It’s the 1960s equivalent of sitting down at your desk after a one-night stand, firing up the...

With everything 2020 is throwing at us, it would probably be no surprise that one of the best pieces of television would be a show about chess. Here we are though with the release of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix… a piece of television that just may make you want to learn how to play!
When a nine year old orphan is introduced to the game of chess she soon masters the game. As she grows older though she soon realises that life and the game she so loves bring higher stakes, especially when she looks for ways to escape the stress.
The first thing that truly stands out about The Queen’s Gambit is what a star Anya Taylor-Joy is becoming. Though we are introduced to her at the start of the first episode,...
