Grew up in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills. Graduated from high
school in 1976 from Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Studied at Brown University, Providence, RI, from where he graduated in
1980. Taught briefly at a prep school in Westchester County, NY before
focusing on film as a career. Lives in New York City.
