Doctor Who returns with new friends, new worlds, and flatter dimensions.
A brand new trailer for season 2 hinted at the backstory surrounding the Doctor's adventures alongside his latest companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), a human who left Earth and finds herself unable to get back. Vowing to return her home, the Doctor then takes Belinda through several namedropped time periods in his Tardis, ranging from 1952 to the 51st century to the more nostalgic Doctor Who era of 2007. They also face off against several bizarre events and foes along the way, such as "the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest" and a sentient rubber hose cartoon who transforms the Doctor into a 2D animated character.
Confirmed episode titles for season 2 include "The Robot Revolution," The Well," and "The Story & The Engine," with its premiere's synopsis teasing "The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But...

Forget the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Weeping Angels, it is The Master that stands as Doctor Who's most enticing villain. Although the previous three examples are cold-blooded killers, it is The Master's infrequent foray into the realm of the decent that makes them effortlessly intriguing as a character, and a certain factor in their regular reappearance throughout the classic and NuWho eras. Sacha Dhawan's most recent incarnation of The Master is finally receiving his Big Finish debut in Call Me Master, an audio drama that features The Master "questioning his inner self" during a murder mystery.

Former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker has opened up about the backlash to her casting as the 13th Doctor. The actress made TV history in 2017 when she became the first woman to play The Doctor.
While many Doctor Who fans and all of Whittaker's successors were publicly supportive, there was a significant wave of criticism for showrunner Chris Chibnall straying from having a white male play the Time Lord. Doctor Who quickly faced this criticism head on by casting Jo Martin as a secret incarnation of The Doctor, thus retroactively establishing that The Doctor could take the form of any sex or gender.

The Master may not have been part of Doctor Who from the beginning, but portents of their arrival were present as early as the First Doctor's era. Blessed with many great monsters Doctor Who may be, but few of them can hold a candle to the Master. As an evil Time Lord and the Doctor's personal rival, the Master is arguably - Daleks be damned - Doctor Who's defining nemesis. In official terms, the Master, played by Roger Delgado, first appeared in 1971's "Terror of the Autons," facing off against Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor.
It is remarkable in hindsight how fully-formed the Master was during his debut episode. From the smarmy arrogance to his barely-concealed envy of the Doctor, Delgado immediately laid the foundations of a character that has since been portrayed by a number of different actors. From Anthony Ainley to Sacha Dhawan, all actors to play the...

Steven Soderbergh stays busy — and he's always working with the best people, huh? Add to that list the cast of his latest dark comedy film: Michaela Coel, Ian McKellen, and James Cordon, all of whom are slated to star in the forthcoming The Christophers.
Slated to begin production in February in London, the story — according to some exclusive reporting from Variety — is said to focus on the estranged children of a once-famous artist who, upon his death, hire a forger to complete his unfinished works in order to cash in on their sale after they're "discovered." Sounds like it has the potential to be a very funny rumination on death and artistry and why things are deemed more important after someone's life is over. There's no word yet on who has been cast in which role, but all of that will likely become clear closer to production.

After two years of waiting, Sacha Dhawan's incarnation of the Master makes his return to the Whoniverse in a new Doctor Who audio adventure. The actor made a surprise debut in 2020's season 12 premiere "Spyfall", where it was revealed that the Thirteenth Doctor's (Jodie Whittaker) MI5 contact 0 was the rogue Time Lord, vengeful and angered after his world was shattered by recently uncovered Time Lord history. Burning Gallifrey down and wiping out the species once more, Dhawan's incarnation of the Master tried to invade Earth with interdimensional foes, created Time Lord/Cyberman hybrids, and stole the Doctor's body.
Big Finish has unveiled that the Master will return in Call Me Master: Inner Demons in February 2025. The three-story box set finds Dhawan's Master is in the midst of an identity crisis at an unknown point in his life, as Robert Valentine's "Self-Help" sees him dealing with his existential woes,...

The end of the Thirteenth Doctors era in Doctor Who came with mixed fan reaction, whether it was how the ultimate face off with the Master (Sacha Dhawan) or how each companion said their goodbyes, or what ultimately led to Jodie Whittakers Doctor regenerating (in a final plot twist) into David Tennants Fourteenth Doctor. The fan reaction included disappointment at what seemed to be the end of the story for the Thirteenth Doctor and Yasmin Khan aka Yaz (Mandip Gill). Fans had speculated about a romance between Yasmin and the Doctor (ship name: Thasmin), but it never materialized, even after a confession from Yaz.

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill are back as the Thirteenth Doctor and Yasmin Khan for a series of Doctor Who audio advenures for Big Finish.
Big Finish has been recording new stories with various incarnations of The Doctor since 1999 – in fact, to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary, Big Finish is releasing a special edition of its first ever story, Sirens Of Time. There was also huge excitement in 2020 when the notoriously reticent Christopher Eccleston reprised his role as the Ninth Doctor on audio.
Jodie Whittaker has spoken at length in interviews about how much she loved her time on the show and how she would jump at the chance to go back.
Big Finish has confirmed that, in partnership with BBC Studios, Whittaker and Mandip Gill – who played her companion Yasmin Khan – will reprise their roles for a series of 12 hour-long audio adventures, the first of which will be released in July 2025.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the two-part finale of Doctor Who season 14.
Sutekh's return in Doctor Who season 14 was influenced by his knowledge of the Time Lords' existence and his desire to avoid them. Sutekh's power increased over time, allowing him to commandeer the Tardis and bend it to his will. The Doctor's society, the Time Lords, have intervened in various situations throughout their history, suggesting they would have opposed Sutekh if he had revealed himself earlier.
Sutekh's Doctor Who return after such a lengthy period raises the question of why he was so impossibly patient ahead of his comeback, but there's a theory that can explain it. After first appearing in Doctor Who's classic era, Sutekh came back to the show in Doctor Who season 14's penultimate episode, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday." The two-part finale of Ncuti Gatwa's inaugural run as the Fifteenth Doctor is only Sutekh's second live-action appearance.

Doctor Who is widely considered a very good show. But it's been on TV for over 60 years, and in that time it's racked up more than its fair share of controversial storylines. Sometimes, the writers simply don't think about how a particular issue is framed. Other times, the attitudes of the time bleed into certain episodes.
Therefore, there are plenty of Doctor Who stories that a fan might take offense to. So certain episodes from both the classic and modern-day series have been relentlessly analyzed, argued over, and mocked. It ultimately falls to the individual viewer whether or not they choose to revisit these controversial storylines.

The Glassworker
Pakistani animator Usman Riaz's The Glassworker is a seminal hand-drawn animation feature, ten years in the making. Usman and his collaborators at Mano Animation Studios had to build the infrastructure from scratch to create Pakistan's first animated film, which premiered at the prestigious 2024 Annecy International Film Festival.
Directed and written by Riaz and co-writer Moya O'Shea, the story revolves around Vincent (Sacha Dhawan) and his father Tomas (Art Malik), whose peaceful life running a glasswork shop in a small town is disturbed by conflict sweeping down from the north. The father and son's relationship is tested when Vincent falls in love with Alliz (Anjli Mohindra), a talented violinist who is the daughter of the newly stationed colonel (Tony Jayaward). Their desire for one another and their creative souls are an affront to a harsher sensibility fuelled by patriotism, where tradition would deny Vincent and Alliz's love.

Doctor Who season 14's finale felt similar to the previous season's, with both featuring a catastrophic energy wave. The show's storytelling and imagination in recent finales have been criticized as lacking depth and excitement. Doctor Who needs to find its way back to character-driven moments and meaningful connections to remain engaging.
Doctor Who season 14 featured one of the more divisive season finales in the show's run, but it also reminded me of the finale that immediately preceded it. Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show on TV, with the show's first episodes airing way back in 1963. Carole Ann Ford was pleasantly surprised by the Susan reference, celebrating the series' origins. Susan's potential return is hinted at in season 14, and could tie into the Timeless Child mythology. Doctor Who season 14 may see Susan reunite with the Doctor aboard the Memory Tardis.
Original Doctor Who star Carole Ann Ford shares her reaction to a surprising reference to her 60s companion Susan in season 14, alongside her thoughts on whether a potential return is in the cards. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Doctor Who season 14, episode 2, "The Devil's Chord."
Maestro is not the Master, but a new original character with music-based powers from Doctor Who's Pantheon. The Master may not return anytime soon to avoid overuse in Doctor Who's modern era, giving space for new villains. Sacha Dhawan gave a notable performance as the Master and could return, but too soon may lead to Master fatigue.
Ever since the appearance of a particular new Doctor Who villain in the season 14 trailer, there have been several theories as to their true identity, but the second episode of the season debunks one of the most popular hypotheses. Doctor Who season 14, episode 2, "The Devil's Chord," brings a new antagonist into the franchise, and while there are seemingly certain clues to suggest the Doctor has encountered them before - it simply isn't true.

Gallifrey, home of the Time Lords, has been destroyed twice, but continues to play a key role in dramatic Doctor Who stories. The destruction of Gallifrey by the Master was due to a bitter jealousy over the Doctor's identity as the Timeless Child. Despite the fixed point in time preventing the Doctor from saving Gallifrey, its return in Doctor Who seems inevitable.
Gallifrey's history in Doctor Who is long and complicated, largely owing to the fact that the Doctor's homeworld has been destroyed not once, but twice. First depicted in the 1969 serial The War Games, Gallifrey is the home planet of the Time Lords, the race of people to which the Doctor belongs. Over the years, Doctor Who has returned to Gallifrey on a number of occasions. The last time it appeared onscreen, however, Gallfrey was completely obliterated for the second time.

According to Rtd, the Master won't be returning in Doctor Who Season 14. Davies hints at a fresh start for the show, ruling out classic foes like The Master for now. The Doctor Who episode "The Giggle" revealed the fate of the Master, who lost to the Toymaker in a game and is currently sealed in a golden tooth.
Russell T Davies finally addresses one theory of whether The Master is lurking in the shadows of Doctor Who season 14. Following a lore-twisting debut in the final act of Doctor Who's 60th-anniversary and the seasonal tale in 2023, Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor will be joined by Millie Gibson's new companion Ruby Sunday for new adventures. Doctor Who season 14 may introduce a powerful new version of the Master, potentially played by Jinkx Monsoon as Maestro. The Master's imprisonment and potential absorption of the Toymaker's power could make them the most threatening adversary yet. A more powerful Master would add a fresh and dangerous dynamic to the upcoming season of Doctor Who with Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor.
Doctor Who season 14 could see the return of the Master, with the legendary villain boasting powers never seen before from the Doctor's Time Lord adversary. As one of the longest-running Doctor Who characters, the Master has been shown in many forms through the decades. Every actor to play the Master in Doctor Who has brought something fresh to the role, with Sacha Dhawan's version of the character being the most recent to appear on the show. Jinkx Monsoon was already theorized to be playing the Master in Doctor Who season 14. Rtd has now confirmed Monsoon's character is called "Maestro," which can mean "master" in Italian. Season 14 may be too early to bring the Master back, and could risk overusing the villain.

Doctor Who is embracing the controversial Timeless Child storyline, as seen in "The Timeless Children." Both Ruby and the Doctor are foundlings, creating a strong parallel between their origins and building comparisons. Ruby's mysterious backstory will continue to be a focal point in season 14, hinting at more exploration of her origins beyond what has been shown.

The story began during season 12, episode 10, "The Timeless Children." However, Russell T. Davies seems to be a fan of the plot twist, and has already addressed it numerous times since his recent return as showrunner.

The final Doctor Who 60th anniversary special retcons the Timeless Child storyline through a brief exchange between the Toymaker and the Master. The introduction of the Timeless Child created plot holes and inaccuracies in the Doctor's backstory, leading to fans demanding its removal. Buckle up, Whovians, because Doctor Who’s timey-wimey-ness is about to get even timey-wimey-er.
Showrunner Russell T Davies has teased that Doctor Who’s third and final 60th anniversary episode, “The Giggle” (airing Saturday 9th December) will kick-start “a whole new Doctor Who mythology” that will – no stranger to hyperbole, Rtd – “rock the world”.
Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine in issue 598, Davies draws fans’ attention to the in-vision episode commentary that will be available on BBC iPlayer after “The Giggle” airs – featuring him, producer Phil Collinson and David Tennant – and revealed that “controversial events” in this episode would lead to a huge change for Doctor Who:
“If you listen and watch the commentary on iPlayer, I unroll a whole new Doctor Who mythology for you, based around the events taking place. And I’m explaining this to David Tennant and his mind is exploding. That commentary will have absolutely...

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Doctor Who: "The Star Beast."
Ncuti Gatwa's first season of Doctor Who may feature the return of the Master, teased by a comment made by Donna Noble. The possibility of the Master's return is further supported by a throwaway gag about a man with a goatee in the 60th anniversary special. The identity of the "boss" referenced by Beep the Meep in "The Star Beast" could potentially be the Master, assembling a group of alien enemies to find the Doctor.
An off-hand comment by Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) could tease the return of the Master in Ncuti Gatwa's first season of Doctor Who. The Master (Sacha Dhawan) was last seen in "The Power of the Doctor", so it's unlikely that Russell T Davies would bring them back so soon, especially in the same run of episodes as the Toymaker. However, Ncuti Gatwa is set to...

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Doctor Who's first 60th anniversary special, "The Star Beast".
Doctor Who's 60th anniversary specials are likely to revisit a plot point involving the Meep's boss during Ncuti Gatwa's tenure as the Fifteenth Doctor. Producers Collinson and Delow know who the Meep's boss is, but David Tennant claims he doesn't, suggesting viewers may not learn the boss's identity during the specials. The theory that the boss is the Toymaker may also be debunked by Tennant's lack of knowledge, with other possibilities for the boss including the Master, the Rani, the Eternals, or a new villain for the Fifteenth Doctor.

Ncuti Gatwa's addition to the re-edited version of An Adventure In Space and Time perfectly aligns with the heartwarming message of the final scene. Gatwa's surprise appearance reassures Hartnell's First Doctor that Doctor Who will have a lasting legacy and be carried on by the future Doctor. The addition of Gatwa's Doctor in the scene is a sweet continuation of the drama and highlights the impact of the original broadcast's moment between the First Doctor and Matt Smith's Doctor.

Elle Fanning is opening up about Hulu’s cancellation of The Great and imagining what her character would be doing next.
The streamer axed the Tony McNamara-created series after three seasons. News of the cancellation came in the middle of the SAG-AFTRA strike which kept actors from sharing their thoughts. With the actors back in business, Fanning is now sharing her thoughts on social media.
“Scrolling down memory lane… I haven’t been able to properly share my thoughts after the news of The Great’s cancellation. This show has meant the world to me,” Fanning said on Instagram. “The experiences shared. The memories I’ll never forget. Tony McNamara is a certified genius. The last 3 seasons have shaped me. Through playing Catherine I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know I had. I love every crew member and cast member deeply.”
