The legendary Harry Potterfantasy series depicts a world within a world where witches and wizards live in secret among non-magical folk around the globe. All wizards and witches are united by their affinity for magic and their knowledge of wizarding history, but a few are simply more talented or better educated than others. Meanwhile, some wizards never rise above mediocrity.
Then again, certain witches and wizards in Harry Potter have become truly powerful either through innate talent, tireless study, or real-life experience with magical combat. The wizarding world is home to many powerful witches, some even more powerful than Harry Potter himself. Strong female characters are an important representation in any work of literature and film, and Harry Potter features its fair share of powerful witches.

Despite rumors swirling for decades about a female Doctor happening in Doctor Who, the BBC avoided it until Jodie Whittaker's run as the Thirteenth Doctor. As the first female Doctor, Whittaker was failed by showrunner Chris Chibnall, whose controversial "Timeless Child" storyline drastically changed Doctor Who canon. Still, as the first woman to play the Doctor, Whittaker herself was praised for her fun, fresh take on the Doctor, her warm, lively personality bubbling through as one of the most empowering female TV characters of the decade. So to say the first run of a female Doctor was a mixed bag would be accurate.
That's not to say Doctor Who hasn't come close to a female regeneration - it has, a few times. But it never panned out, for various reasons, though arguably the real reason has never been given publicly. For a show that's as long-running as Doctor Who,...

In Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film "Prometheus," a group of astronauts travel to a distant planet, guided there by a series of ancient cave paintings discovered on Earth. It seems that tall, godlike aliens visited Earth many thousands of years ago and left a map that humanity would eventually be able to follow back to their homeworld. It might have taken us several millennia to develop long-range space travel, but we eventually have the wherewithal to follow the map.
Of course, when the astronauts arrive, they find strange, brutal things they can't understand. The tall godlike aliens, which they nickname Engineers, are all dead, having been killed by a menagerie of genetically engineered critters of their own making. Some unusual evidence leads the astronauts to believe the Engineers were preparing to travel to Earth with a cargo of killer monsters, hoping to seed our planet with them and kill us all.

Filmmaker Richard Curtis has been looking back on his 2003 rom-com ‘Love Actually’. He discussed more ways he wished he could improve his film and said that he wished he had included more religions in the film.
The film had a divided fanbase due to lack of diversity, cruel jokes, and stereotyped characters. Curtis himself has noted that the star studded movie failed on a cultural level. He touched upon a storyline that was cut from the film that featured acclaimed actresses Anne Reid and Frances de La Tour.
He said: “We were meant to have an LGBTQ story [in Love Actually] but it got cut and I feel as though I let myself down there. And the diversity issue is very different now. It would’ve been lovely to make the film more culturally rich. To have had Hanukkah, to have had Diwali in there.”

The festive season has rolled around again, bringing with it endless repeats of Love Actually on TV and streaming services.
But while Richard Curtis’s star-studded romcom may be a Christmas viewing staple, few fans know about one highly emotional LGBT+ relationship that ended up on the cutting room floor.
The plotline centred around an older lesbian couple who were connected to Karen (Emma Thompson) and her family.
It saw Anne Reid play the headmistress at the school attended by Karen’s son, while Frances de la Tour appeared as her terminally ill partner Geraldine.
The film was meant to feature a moving scene in which the pair bicker over their differing tastes in fancy sausages and display their wicked senses of humour, before cuddling up at night. It is later revealed during a school assembly that Geraldine died shortly before Christmas.
However, the story didn’t make the final cut,...

Which bit of Love Actually disturbs you the most? For me, personally, it’s when Kris Marshall’s character is about to board a plane to find some hot American chicks to bang, and he bellows, “Here comes Colin Frissell… and he’s got a bigggg knobbbb.” Obviously if I saw the man from My Family shouting that at an airport, it would ruin not just my holiday but my entire Christmas. But what’s bothering me more about Love Actually, actually, is the way that bashing Richard Curtis’s Now 45 compilation of a Christmas film has become an annual sport. At this time of year, the takes really are all around. People declare this fluffy film problematic. Anti-feminist. Practically the anti-Christ. Earlier this week, Jeremy Vine’s Channel 5 show even had a segment that explored the film’s “red flags” and asked if we should stop watching it all together.

Love Actually writer-director Richard Curtis has admitted that the lack of diversity in his 2003 Christmas classic doesn’t sit well with him.
The award-winning British filmmaker said there are moments of the film that are now “bound to feel out of date”, but that society’s ongoing love for it was “really touching”.
Love Actually follows numerous storylines about people in love. However, apart from the interracial marriage between Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the cast is overwhelmingly white.
The relationships are also exclusively heterosexual (although there is homoerotic subtext between Bill Nighy’s rock star and his manager). A lesbian storyline with Anne Reid and Frances de La Tour was cut from the final version of the film.
Curtis’s comments about diversity came during an interview in the new one-hour special, The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later, which was broadcast on US network ABC on Tuesday...

Frances de la Tour has called the decision to cut her scene from the 2003 romcom Love Actually “odd”.
The Harry Potter and Seventies sitcom star had shot scenes for the film as a woman called Geraldine, the terminally ill partner of the headmistress (Anne Reid) at the school attended by Karen’s (Emma Thompson) son.
The audience was supposed to see a moving scene in which the pair bicker over their differing tastes in fancy sausages and display wicked senses of humour, before cuddling up at night.
It is later revealed during a school assembly that Geraldine died shortly before Christmas.
“We had a lovely scene,” De la Tour told The Independent in a new interview. “And I think it was the only gay scene. It’s odd that they cut it. Maybe it was too dark to bring into it. Because it ended up being quite a light and fluffy film,...

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Seeking a third consecutive victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

“Slave Play” made history back in October when it received 12 Tony Awards nominations, the most ever for a play. Five of those citations recognize members of its stellar ensemble, including a bid in Actress, two in Featured Actor, and two in Featured Actress. While “Slave Play” is the frontrunner for Best Play according to our exclusive Tony Awards predictions, none of its cast will take home trophies. But could an upset be looming?
Though it seems counterintuitive that Tony voters would award a play the top honor without recognizing at least one of its performers, it has happened six times in the past 20 years, including the two most recent. In 2019, Jez Butterworth’s “The Ferryman,” an expansive family drama about The Troubles in Ireland, won the top prize and trophies for Director (Sam Mendes), Scenic Design, and Costume Design, but didn’t pick up awards for its three nominated performers: actor Paddy Considine,...

The life of England’s Prince George is being parodied in HBO Max’s The Prince, the 12-episode series premiering in one full batch at midnight Thursday. The project was originally delayed in May after the death of Prince Phillip.
The Prince is a biting, satirical look at the life of Prince George of Cambridge as he navigates the trials and tribulations of being a royal child. The youngest heir to the British throne will be voiced by creator Gary Janetti, who popularized the character and his royal adventures via his Instagram page.
By the looks of the new trailer, neither Prince Harry (Orlando Bloom), his wife Duchess Megan Markle (Condola Rashad) nor the rest of the family will be spared in the name of comedy—not even Queen Elizabeth (Frances de la Tour).

Creator Gary Janetti posted to Instagram that satirical cartoon was “coming soon” just five days before Prince Philip passed
HBO Max has delayed the debut of Gary Janetti’s animated series “The Prince” following the April death of Prince Philip.

Technically, there was no date set — at least not publicly — though the cartoon was expected to bow in late spring. But days before Philip’s passing, Janetti posted a teaser to Instagram stating his streaming series was “coming soon.”

Enola Holmes is perhaps one of the most charming family-friendly films Netflix has recently dropped. The movie, which premiered on Sept. 23, follows the adventures of Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) - the younger sister of famed detective Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and government official Mycroft (Sam Claflin). She sets out to find her mother, Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter), who disappeared on her 16th birthday, leaving her nothing but money and a cipher decoder. During the escapade, Enola meets a young runaway nobleman named Viscount Tewksbury (Louis Partridge) and helps him evade the assassin Linthorn (Burn Gorman). While Eudoria's disappearance and the mystery surrounding Tewksbury's murderous stalker seem unrelated at first, it becomes clear that they're connected by one thing: the suffrage movement.
Throughout the movie, which takes place in 1884, there are several references to a reform bill. Although they never directly say what the bill is, there are a handful of...

In it, Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown plays the sixteen-year-old sister of Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes (Sam Claflin and Henry Cavill), a bright spark raised in splendid isolation by their mother Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter) to think, fight and plot her own path through life. When Eudoria mysteriously disappears, Enola undertakes her first missing persons case and reconnects with her estranged detective brother along the way.
Based on the first in a six-strong series of YA books by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes is a lively, if overlong, romp with a political heart and a charming central performance by Millie Bobby Brown. With plot spoilers, here’s a breakdown of the major action…

Following the recent release of Netflix's Enola Holmes, star Millie Bobby Brown has already expressed interest in returning for a sequel. Leading the adaptation as the inquisitive kid-sister of world-famous sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, Brown is eager to return for another adventure and continue evolving the character.
"Yeah, there's more of the story to be told. The story isn't over yet. She isn't grown up, there's no conclusion. I think she'll forever be someone who is always evolving, but there's definitely more to be shown on screen. Harry and I loved working together, so this has to happen. Harry, we've got to send an email..."

Henry Cavill has had a super month (pun intended) thus far. The actor has reportedly signed on to play Superman in at least three more movies and is also starring in a recently released mystery flick that’s earned praised from critics and fans alike.
Yes, as you may’ve seen, Enola Holmes is currently the number one most-watched film on Netflix, thanks in no small part to the 37-year-old’s take on Sherlock. The internet fell in love with the idea of Cavill as the renowned investigator back when the trailer dropped earlier this year and it seems safe to say that he’s more than lived up to the hype. The feature currently holds a 91% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has fans online begging for a sequel.
The pic, based off a book series of the same name, revolves around the eponymous teen sister of star detective Sherlock Holmes.

Stranger Things breakout star Millie Bobby Brown stars in Netflix's new mystery-adventure movie Enola Holmes, based on the best-selling novels by Nancy Springer. Brown plays the role of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes' younger and equally brilliant sister Enola. In an interview, Harry Bradbeer, the star director of acclaimed show Fleabag who also directed Enola Holmes, explained what made him interested in helming an adaptation of Springer's work.
"I thought there was a way of making a film that was going to be energetic, eccentric, particular, but also very emotional. And I think that's one of the things I really leaned into with the script, because it was a fun romp when I first looked at it, but I thought there was more emotion to mine from it.""The other thing that really appealed to me, and it was there in the original script but we brought it much further forward,...

Netflix's Enola Holmes begins as a mystery centered on the disappearance of Enola Holmes's (Millie Bobby Brown) mother, Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter). However, another conundrum unfolds when the young detective meets a blossoming marquess, Viscount Tewksbury (Louis Partridge). The two cross paths on a train carriage during their attempts to escape their respective families who are set on forcing them to live less than enjoyable lives. Enola's brother, Mycroft, wants to send her to an unpleasant finishing school to turn her into a "lady." Meanwhile, Tewksbury's family want to force him into the army before he rises in rank and takes the place of his late father in the House of Lords. To make matters worse, a bowler-hat-wearing man named Linthorn (Burn Gorman) is trying to kill Tewksbury. So what's the deal with the case of the missing marquess?
