Carole D’Andrea, who portrayed the Jet girl Velma in the original 1957 Broadway production of West Side Story and then in the classic 1961 film, has died. She was 87.
D’Andrea died March 11 of heart failure at her home in Santa Monica, her daughter Andrea Doven told The Hollywood Reporter.
She was married to Tony winner and Mad Men star Robert Morse from 1961 until their 1981 divorce.
D’Andrea was one of only six actors from the original Broadway cast of West Side Story to appear in the United Artists feature; the others were Tony Mordente, Tommy Abbott, William Bramley, Jay Norman and David Winters.
Born on Aug. 28, 1937, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Carole Ann D’Andrea graduated from Altoona Area High School, where she was a majorette. When she was about 16, she turned down a scholarship to Penn State University and came to New York to pursue acting after her parents died in a car crash.

Teri Garr, the Oscar-nominated actress who capitalized on her adorable flightiness in such films as Tootsie and Young Frankenstein before her career was derailed by multiple sclerosis, died Tuesday. She was 79.
Garr, who started out as a background dancer working alongside Elvis Presley in several 1960s party films, died at her home in Los Angeles “surrounded by family and friends,” publicist Heidi Schaeffer told The Hollywood Reporter.
Garr revealed that she had Ms, the chronic, degenerative disease of the nervous system, on Larry King’s CNN show in October 2002, and she survived emergency surgery to treat a brain aneurysm four years later. Her final onscreen appearance came in 2011.
Garr’s career breakthrough came as Gene Wilder’s comely Transylvanian lab assistant in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein (1974). She received her supporting actress Oscar nomination for playing Dustin Hoffman’s insecure actress friend in Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie (1982).
Those films ranked Nos.

Tony Mordente, the actor, dancer and choreographer who starred in the original Broadway and big-screen versions of West Side Story before carving out a long career as a TV director, has died. He was 88.
Mordente, who lived in Henderson, Nevada, died Tuesday, his family announced.
Mordente also worked on Broadway as an actor, understudy and/or assistant choreographer in Li’l Abner, Bye Bye Birdie and Ben Franklin in Paris.
The Brooklyn native portrayed A-Rab on stage in West Side Story, which premiered at the Winter Garden Theatre in September 1957, and played Action, another member of the Jets gang, in the 1961 United Artists adaptation. (David Winters was given the part of A-Rab in the movie.)
He married West Side Story castmate Chita Rivera, who of course played Anita, in December 1957. “A Jet marrying a Shark. It was quite a thing,” he said in a 1963 interview. (Rivera died in January.)

Wintersink's art imagines a Justice League roster made up of the traditional heroes' parents. Many Justice League heroes had adventurer parents, and some have encountered vigilante versions of their mothers and fathers in alternate realities. The concept of a League of Super-Parents would fit perfectly with DC's relaunch of its Elseworlds line.
The Justice League may be mythic heroes, but they're not the first team to try and protect the DC Universe. Others, like the Justice Society of America, came from an older generation, protecting the world and establishing a legacy for the League to honor. But what if that passing of the torch was more literal, and a previous Justice League had been made up of the current heroes' parents?
This artwork shared to Instagram by Wintersink celebrates the idea of a Justice League created by the parents of the usual members, led by Hippolyta, Jor-El and Thomas Wayne.

X-Men and Power Rangers were popular Saturday morning shows in the '90s and have remained iconic. A fanart merges Wolverine and Zordon, bringing together two nostalgic franchises. Wolverine's redesign in a Power Rangers aesthetic is jaw-dropping, with a customized yellow and blue suit that still maintains his iconic claws. The artist combines the best of both worlds. Another crossover artwork depicts She-Hulk challenging the Green Ranger in a stylized and action-filled image. While she doesn't receive a Power Rangers upgrade, the artwork is a treat for fans of both franchises.
Both the Power Rangers and the X-Men can be accurately described as team of teenage superheroes fighting the forces of evil under the guidance of a bald mentor who teaches them how to control their newfound powers, and now, Wolverine bridges the gap even more between the two iconic teams by actually becoming a Power Ranger himself in an ultra-stylish fanart redesign.

This show has everything going for it, in fact, it has Too much going for it: tragic drama, silly comedy, bland heart-tugs and saucy romance. Everybody’s working across purposes, with ‘stunt’ guest star Bobby Darin preening for awards attention. Angie Dickinson, Tony Curtis and Eddie Albert are terrific but are acting in different movies; and Gregory Peck seems out of his depth altogether. Does it keep our attention? You bet. Does it work? I’m not so sure.
