The Ted Humphrey-created, and David E. Kelley executive-produced series “The Lincoln Lawyer” finally returns for season 3. Adapted from Michael Connelly’s series of books about the titular Lincoln Lawyer, Mickey Haller, the show is a ratings hit on Netflix precisely because it is both an old-school throwback to network TV legal dramas, with an added sheen afforded to Netflix shows. It almost emulates the “sunny blue-skies era” of the USA Network, which made “Suits” get a gigantic second wind when it dropped on Netflix.
Most importantly after the success of “Bosch” on Prime Video and its spinoff on the sister channel Freevee, Netflix wanted to hop on the Connelly bandwagon. While “The Lincoln Lawyer” isn’t as good as “Bosch,” it has a consistency in terms of story and vibe and perfectly dependable filmmaking that allows it to be a streamable experience, even as the show fumbled majorly in the second season.

While watching the Netflix legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer, a few questions may cross your mind: Is this smooth-talking, taco-eating lawyer Mickey Haller () for real? And if so, is he available?
Alas, we can’t quite help with that: Mickey Haller is indeed a fictional character, created by author Michael Connelly in the popular novels that inspired the Netflix series. But, as it turns out, Connelly borrowed the idea of a lawyer working out of the back of his car from a real-life person: David Ogden, a Los Angeles attorney who passed away in 2020.
While Ogden served as the initial inspiration for Mickey Haller, he was just the start. Connelly also drew from the career of Dan Daly, a Florida-based lawyer...

You know there’s a reason why the finale of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is called “The Gods of Guilt.” I mean, except for the fact that it is the title of Michael Connelly’s book on which the season is based. The term was first used by Mickey Haller’s father, who considered the jurors the ‘gods of guilt’ because they sit on the high table and decide who is guilty and who is not. But in Mickey’s case, it was different. Mickey’s ‘gods of guilt’ were all those people whom he believed had lost their lives because of him. Throughout the season, he was burdened by their deaths and was trying to redeem himself by getting justice for them. Mickey believed that Gloria Dayton died because he made a deal with her to give up Hector Moya to the Da’s office, though that wasn’t the case.

You might want to put down the windows, because it’s getting hot in this ride — and, no, it’s not the LA heat. New episodes of The Lincoln Lawyer are out now.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo returns as Mickey Haller in the legal drama with 10 new episodes based on The Gods of Guilt, the fifth book in The Lincoln Lawyer series by Michael Connelly. (Showrunners Dailyn Rodriguez and Ted Humphrey agree it may also be Connelly’s best book of that era.)
“This season is very exciting,” Garcia-Rulfo tells Tudum. “We see Mickey struggling with so many things at the same time — with romance, with the wives, with the cases. You never expect what’s going to happen, who’s going to be bad, and who’s going to be guilty.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Season 3.

The case Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is about to tackle on The Lincoln Lawyer—did his client, Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye), murder the lawyer’s friend Glory Days (Fiona Rene)?—was introduced at the end of Season 2. Will the same thing be true with the third season (dropping on October 17 on Netflix)? Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez are very careful when talking about how Season 3 ends. “We always set up sort of the next case of the season. This one won’t quite set up the next case, but it will definitely set up the next book,” Rodriguez tells TV Insider. Adds Humphrey, “I think we can say this season will definitely propel us in a very exciting and personal way into a Season 4.” The series is based on Michael Connelly’s novels, with the third ...

Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) going to be tested in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 as he takes on his most personal case yet: His client, Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye), is on trial for the murder of his friend, Gloria Dayton (Fiona Rene). The series is based on Michael Connelly’s novels, and Season 3 is a “quite close” adaptation of The Gods of Guilt, according to co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez. Speaking for herself and co-showrunner Ted Humphrey, she added, “We both think that this is Michael’s best Lincoln Lawyer book, and we really felt like we wanted to make it shine.” Below, Humphry and Rodriguez preview Mickey’s case. This case is described as Mickey’s most difficult yet. What makes that true? Ted Humphrey: I think that, first of all, of the cases that we’ve done on TV, this is the most personal for him. A planned Bosch spinoff that would have focused on Harry Bosch’s former partner Jerry Edgar is not moving forward at Prime Video.
‘Bosch’ spinoff about J. Edgar not happening at Prime Video
In 2023, Amazon announced that it was developing a Bosch and Bosch: Legacy spinoff series about J. Edgar. Jamie Hector – who played J. Edgar on seven seasons of Bosch – was supposed to reprise his role in the new show, which would follow the LAPD detective as he takes on an undercover FBI operation in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.
“Can’t wait to get to work,” Hector tweeted after the show was announced.
Now, Amazon has scuttled plans for the show, according to a recent report from Deadline. Screenwriter Larry Andries and novelist Michael Connelly, who wrote the books that inspired the Bosch series, were executive producers on the show. A pair of IP-based projects at Amazon aren’t moving forward after several years of development.
The tech giant’s Freevee streaming service has scuttled a sequel to the 1980s sitcom Who’s The Boss?, which had original series stars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano attached to reprise their roles. Amazon MGM Studios, meanwhile, has pulled the plug on a Bosch spinoff centering on Jamie Hector’s character, Detective Jerry Edgar.
The Who’s the Boss? sequel found a home at Freevee in 2022 after two years in development at Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series. Milano was set to star as Samantha Micelli, now a single mother living in the same house where she grew up in the original show, which ran from 1984-92 on ABC. Danza was also set to return as her father, now retired.

It’s a tangled web in the universe of Michael Connelly legal dramas, and a familiar player is back on your screen for a third season debuting on Oct. 17: Mickey Haller, aka the Lincoln lawyer.
Mickey was first introduced in Connelly’s critically acclaimed 2005 novel The Lincoln Lawyer as the younger half-brother of the author’s other most famous character, Harry Bosch. While Matthew McConaughey played Mickey in the 2011 movie, the series explores a different side of the character — one that’s more closely tied to his Latinx roots from the original novel. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo takes the reins as the Los Angeles legal ace who practices from the back seat of his Lincoln. In Season 1, he was joined by plenty of familiar TV faces, including Party of Five star Neve Campbell and Ugly Betty stars Becki Newton and Christopher Gorham. And Season 2 introduced some more small-screen regulars who...

Two of Michael Connelly‘s well-known characters are related and have both been headliners of TV series streaming in recent years (and currently). The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix follows lawyer Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and his half-brother is LAPD Detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), the titular character of the Prime Video series. There is some crossover between the two in the novels. Could we see that in the third season (premiering October 17) or a future one, should it be renewed? Well, what we do know for certain is that Mickey is about to be dealing with his most personal case yet: the murder of his friend, sex worker Gloria Dayton, a.k.a. Glory Days (Fiona Rene). His client, Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye), says he didn’t do it. “[Mickey] can’t shake this nagging feeling that he may in some way be responsible,” says co-showrunner Ted Humphrey, as part...
