One Chicago has proven to be one of NBC's most durable brands. Three of its shows have recently hit a decade on the air, and the 2025 crossover event proves that there's more demand than ever for stories set in this world. So what happened with Chicago Justice?

The fourth installment in the One Chicago franchise was scrapped after just one season, despite having the same baseline appeal and set as its peers. It even had the benefit of a lead character who had already been established on another show: Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda).

The One Chicago shows love their crossovers but which ones are the best and worst?

One Chicago has always been a fantastic universe to enjoy. Chicago Fire, Chicago Pd and Chicago Med are genius at how they make it so natural to coexist. Characters from one show can pop into another without looking obtrusive and distracting. There's also the great relationships across the shows from the Halstead brothers to Mouch and Trudy's marriage.

Crossovers between the shows are thus commonplace with NBC often doing special events across all three series. Some are better than others, with the best linking the shows together with a good storyline and character work. The weaker ones don't really offer a reason they need to be linked together when one episode could have done it.

Chicago Pd has really had a rough go the last few seasons. It has lost Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), both as individuals and a couple. Per TV Line, every series in the highly popular One Chicago franchise will have a shorter holiday hiatus than usual. The trio of shows is set to return to NBC with new seasons on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. In a post on social media, Powell remembered the late Twister actor and tipped his hat to his Red Wing co-star.

After all, fans of the straight-shooting, contemplative modern cowboy got six seasons with the character, plus a surprise bonus in the form of the revival series -- an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story that didn't originally feature Raylan. And isn't that enough? Wouldn't it be greedy for us to ask for more time in this stylish, thrilling world?

Not according to the show itself. Wherever Raylan Givens goes, there must always be a Boyd.

For the vast majority of Justified: City Primeval, the Boyd in question was Boyd Holbrook, the actor who brings “Oklahoma Wildman” Clement Mansell to menacing life. Following the villain’s violent death in the series finale, City Primeval closed out by returning to the Boyd who started it all: Boyd Crowder, Raylan’s old friend turned foe — turned friend and foe and back again. Listen, it was complicated.

In the final sequence of the revival series, Walton Goggins reprises his celebrated Justified role, picking up many years after we last saw him but in more or less the same exact place: prison. Boyd tells his fellow inmates he’s facing terminal illness and is being transferred to another facility as a result. Of course, as often is the case with Boyd, it’s a con.

Based on a true story, The Hill comes from director Jeff Celentano (Breaking Point), who attempts to strike a home run with this baseball tale. Creatively, the bases never feel fully loaded here and there’s never a sense that things won’t get resolved. That the film goes into overtime — literally — is another story. Despite all that, if you can have a little patience, when all is said and done, Celentano does justice to the real-life story of a celebrated baseball player, beginning with his childhood in the 1970s and moving through young adulthood where he was further confronted with his physical injuries and filial strife.

The film, which arrives from Briarcliff Entertainment, stars Dennis Quaid, Joelle Carter, country music singer and songwriter Randy Houser, Bonnie Bedelia, Scott Glen, and Jesse Berry and Colin Ford as Rickey Hill at various ages. It's your typical inspirational fare.

Walton Goggins may not be part of “Justified: City Primeval,” but he “can’t wait” to see the continuation of the FX staple.

“There’s a season, kind of, for everything,” Goggins said in an interview that was conducted ahead of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The actor noted that his choice to stay out of the project wasn’t “one-sided.” “This isn’t the right place and time.”

“But I can’t wait to see it, and I can’t wait to see Raylan Givens again. Tim [Olyphant] is such a wonderful actor and Boyd Holbrook — I love him,” Goggins said. “I’ll be there. I’ll be watching it to the bitter end.”

So far, only Raylan Givens and his daughter Willa (Vivian Olyphant) are confirmed to return, but it's hoped that more familiar faces will reappear during the miniseries.

As the Detroit mob had interests in Harlan County during Justified, it wouldn't be at all surprising if some associates of imprisoned mobster Theo Tonin (Adam Arkin) make their presence felt.
