Game of Thrones remains one of the most popular television series of all time, famous for introducing complex and compelling characters for audiences to follow over its eight-season run. Although many fan-favorite personalities emerged during this time, the HBO series also included plenty of characters who had very few, if any, redeeming qualities.
While the slimy tactics of its villains were a major draw for Game of Thrones, audiences still derived incredible pleasure from seeing justice served. There are several characters throughout the show's run who truly got what they deserved--a grisly end.

Generative AI was a topic of hot debate on Tuesday at Deloitte’s Media & Telecoms 2024 and Beyond Conference in London where a panel of newspaper and media company bosses discussed deals with artificial intelligence firms.
The executives on the panel included Anna Bateson, CEO of Guardian Media Group, The Sun publisher Dominic Carter, Telegraph Media Group CEO Anna Jones, Rich Caccappolo, the CEO of The Daily Mail owner Dmg Media, and ITN CEO Rachel Corp.
“What AI can’t do is replace journalism,” Carter argued. “Journalism is human endeavor.” In comparison, an election season, such as in the U.K. right now, is especially a time when deepfakes may surface.
Asked about Sun owner News Corp.’s recent deal with OpenAI, Carter said “control is really important,” along with transparency, “and then accountability.”
Could AI deals bring in money but be followed by industry headaches as seen in past deals with social media firms?...

The hit HBO series Game of Thrones continued its Season 5 run last night with "The House of Black and White" (clickHere for our full recap). Patrons of a Brooklyn bar called Videology didn't get to watch the episode there last night, after the establishment was sent a cease and desist letter from HBO, asking them to stop its weekly viewing parties. Here's what an HBO representative had to say in a statement to the New York Daily News.
"As a pay subscription service, HBO should not be made available in public establishments. When it does happen, it is of particular concern when there is an attempt to profit off the programming. We have taken such actions for well over a decade."
Wendy Chamberlain, co-owner of the bar, said Videology is a paid HBO subscriber, and that they screened every Season 4 episode last year without incident. There are also several other...

After four full seasons, Game of Thrones fans have learned to expect the unexpected on a show where you never know which character will meet his or her demise. Possibly the most unexpected part of last week's Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come" (clickHere to read my full review) is that it was a bit more underwhelming than we're used to, although it was still a damn fine premiere. I have a sneaking suspicion that this week's episode, "The House of Black and White", may have originally been envisioned and written as the Season 5 premiere, and it may have been moved to this season's second episode perhaps to temper rabid fan expectations. If that is the case, it certainly worked, since the premiere made us drop our guard, so to speak, only to be thrilled and blown away by this phenomenal second episode. Of course, there will be plenty of...

Following last night's Season 5 premiere, "The Wars to Come", HBO has released a trailer for next week's all-new episode of Game of Thrones titled "The House of Black and White". The footage reveals that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who left Westeros and set sail for Braavos on the other side of the Narrow Sea, finally makes it to her destination. Arya has been searching for Jaquen H'gar, and it seems she may be finally reunited with him in this episode.
The trailer also teases that Cersei (Lena Headey) will burn cities to the ground if 'they' touch her daughter. The Lannisters have received an ominous message from, most likely, the Martell's, who appear to be threatening the life of Cersei's daughter Myrcella, who has been shipped off to marry a prince in Dorne. Their arrangement has some new complications, though it isn't confirmed that it is in fact the Martell's...

Back in December, HBO released a series of brief and vague clips from Season 5 of Game of Thrones, one of which appeared to show the door of The House of Black and White in Braavos. Last night, series star Maisie Williams appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she unveiled a new clip that showed Arya finally making it to The House of Black and White. At the end of Season 4, Arya set sail for Braavos, across the Narrow Sea, and this clip shows that her plan may have been in vain all along. Here's what she had to say on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about this scene.
"The new season for Arya is totally different than what we've seen before. She's in a completely new location, and you see the doors were black and white, and anyone who's read the books knows that's a really exciting place for her to be.

While American Sniper topped the box office charts for a third straight week in a row, this weekend also marked the historic IMAX screenings of two Game of Thrones episodes. Deadline reports that the Warner Bros./IMAX presentation took in a healthy $1.5 million from just 205 screens, bringing in a per-screen average of $7,323. While these figures are not record-breaking numbers by any means, it does show that die-hard fans are willing to pay to see a show like Game of Thrones in large-format IMAX theaters. Here's what Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president Jeff Goldstein had to say in a statement.
"This is the first time that HBO has taken one of their series episodes and released it in IMAX. We see this as a future, and not just with HBO. There is a business here and an interest from a rabid fan base."

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

The best-looking Game Of Thrones installment yet? Ron digs into season four episode nine, The Watchers On The Wall...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.9 The Watchers On The Wall
There are some episodes of Game Of Thrones that are showcases for the writing prowess of Dan Benioff and Db Weiss (and a whole bunch of other great television writers), there are episodes that are dedicated to the prowess of brilliant actors like Peter Dinklage, and then there are episodes of Game Of Thrones that are nothing but spectacle.
Given the importance of the ninth episode of each season, it's not surprising that The Watchers On The Wall is less a plot advancing episode and more of a pure spectacle courtesy of one of the masters of the modern action sequence.
That would be Neil Marshall, who turned a cult classic film (Dog Soldiers) into a brilliant turn in the director's...

Like all good things, even Game of Thrones must come to an end, some day, with creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealing last week that they plan to conclude the show after either Season 7 or Season 8. While we can look forward to a few more years of the hit show, author George R.R. Martin has revealed that he hopes to bring the climax of the series to a close with a big-budget theatrical movie.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the author revealed that a movie finale is being actively discussed at HBO.
"It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big,...

This review may contain spoilers. Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) has assembled an army of 100,000 strong to secure the Iron Throne as the Greyjoys prepare for a naval strike along the Stark's shores -- more than ever, the game is on. Episode by episode, the scope of the coming conflict is emerging. And the looming clash, with so many players now involved, looks to be spectacle, much like this series. Never has political intrigue been so fascinating. And a front runner for the master of intrigue trophy is Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who systematically puts to the test some of his greatest threats in King's Landing: Grand Maester Pycelle (Julian Glover) and Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish (Aidan Gillen). Having already purged Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter), the commander of the ...

Admittedly, everything north of The Wall has been... a little... boring. Whether that's due to an unknowable assailant who isn't often seen on-screen (was the last time really episode one of the series?) or possibly because so little in the way of female interaction is happening (thankfully Gilly is now in the mix!) when they go to Jon Snow (Kit Harington), unfortunately, the story tends to stall out a little. I think this will change in future episodes, as the groundwork is still being laid for the travelers of Castle Black, whereas the rest of the tale is in full flight. Which brings us to Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright), and what readers of the series know, and what non-readers can only guess at. He's having his strange Direwolf dreams again. More exciting are the political machinations attempted by Lady Stark (Michelle Fairley). She's trying to join Renly (Gethin Anthony) and Rob,...

To channel Salt n' Pepa for just a moment, episode two of "Game of Thrones'" sophomore season basically shouts "Let's talk about sex, baby!" No type of hanky panky is "off limits" or superfluous, adultery is broached, incest is hinted at, and of course the normal prostitution angle is roundly considered. Sex goes down on a boat, is talked about while riding on horseback and a table is put to good use in a crucial scene involving one of the contenders for the crown. All in all, it's a very racy episode, though it doesn't add up to an exceptional iteration of the show. Mercifully, we open on Arya (Maisie Williams), everyone's favorite mighty mouse. She's absconded from King's Landing, and none too soon, but The Lannisters have their eyes on another prize, the death of each and every one of the late (great) King Robert's bastards. But where...

Last year, all I wanted was for people to shut the eff up about Game of Thrones. I don't have HBO, and for some reason I'm morally opposed to tacking on that extra 10 bucks to my cable bill. Last week, I got some advanced looks at Game of Thrones Season 2 episodes, and after knocking out the first season over the weekend... I can't shut the eff up about Game of Thrones. Yes, I am hooked, no doubt about it, but thankfully I'll be ingesting these episodes early every week, starting with the Game of Thrones Season 2 premiere, Episode 2.01: The North Remembers, which debuts Sunday, April 1 at 9 Pm Et on HBO.
The tagline for Game of Thrones Season 1 last year (and also the title of the pilot episode) was "Winter is Coming," even though it really never, you know, came. Apparently that frosty season is still coming, for real this time,...
