Following on from the announcement the other day that Starz has officially greenlit a TV series adaption of Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods," a first piece of concept art from the project has gone online. "Hannibal" show runner Bryan Fuller will serve in the same capacity here and was the one to release the artwork via his social media channels. The art itself was done by Jim Carson, whilst Fuller also says right now they're in the midst of casting the key role of 'Shadow'.

In case you haven’t heard, Neil Gaiman’s classic tale of deities struggling to survive in a world where their food source — belief — is in short supply has been picked up as a series by Starz. Bryan Fuller of “Hannibal” fame has taken on the mantle of showrunner (along with “Heroes” producer Michael Green). This news alone is a huge relief: “Hannibal” isn’t exactly wholesome family television. Even more proof Fuller is the right man for the job? Yesterday he released these two pieces of “American Gods” concept art by illustrator Jim Carson: Behold Odin and his grandson Sleipnir! Bow before them! Image Credit: Twitter The Bone Orchard…complete with what looks like the Buffalo Man. Image Credit: Twitter With a reputation for committing to the dark and twisted nature of man and The Stag showcasing his ability to dabble with the supernatural and/or psychotic breaks,...

Film Sketchr chatted with conceptual illustrator James Carson, who has previously worked on Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor. This time the focus was on his latest project, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. James was tasked with the responsibility of helping to design key sets seen in the film like, the Triskelion (primary headquarters for S.H.I.E.L.D.), Steve Rogers apartment and Nick Fury's operating room. For the full interview click here. Film Sketchr: The Triskelion has been a feature of the Ultimates comic books since 2002. Was there anything that you took from the source? James Carson: We used the comic references sparingly. It seemed like many of the comic book images were more of a futuristic type design. Production Designer Peter Wenham felt early on that the Triskelion should be grounded in modern day sensibilities, and also representational of what S.H.E.

Check out this funny behind-the-scenes video of the "Downton Abbey" cast talking about who they think are the hunkiest men on the show.
Laura Carmichael: "They're all pretty gorgeous, aren't they? ... Gary Carr, he's pretty gorgeous."
Hugh Bonneville: "Obviously Allen Leech, the guy's beefed up to no end this year. ... The two suitors of Lady Mary in Season 4 are fairly easy on the eye."
Allen Leech: "Maggie Smith would be well up there ... Robert James-Collier."
To which James-Collier says: "I have no target demographic, I play a gay character and I don't even get any love from gay men out there."
Lesley Nicol: "They're quite a nice-looking bunch, actually. ... I think different ones appeal to different women."
Michelle Dockery: "They're all really handsome."
Phyllis Logan: "Mr. Carson, he's my hunk."
James-Collier: "Brendan Coyle for the over-40s, Allen Leech for the over-30s and...

After public relations whiz, Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), has convinced Hancock (Will Smith) to go to jail, Ray presents Hancock with a superhero costume. We don't get to see it until the chief of police calls requesting Hancock's help with a bank robbery. You can see a portion of that scene and more importantly, Hancock's snazzy costume, in the video below. Beneath that, are six alternate costumes that were illustrated by James Carson. A fun little fact, the eagle logo on the back of Hancock's costume is actually a replica of the Philadelphia Eagles logo used from 1948 to 1995. Click Here To View More Hancock Concept Art Will Smith (he Pursuit of Happyness) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. Let's start with Spider-Man 2, the best film of the three. Over on James Carson's website, there is a rather tantalizing image in the Spider-Man 2 folder. It is of Spidey's feline ally, Black Cat/Felicia Hardy (image on the right). We've known for awhile that Black Cat was at one point early drafts of the script included the character, but this is our first look at a possible costume for her. Snazzy! Next, we have artwork produced for Raimi's original Spider-Man film. These images include alternate designs for the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) costume, Spider-Man's (Tobey Maguire) mask and web-shooters. Lastly, thee pieces of concept art that feature Flint "Sandman" Marko (Thomas Haden Church) materializing at the beach as a extravagant sand castle, for his ill daughter, Penny (Perla Haney-Jardine). This scene was in the original screenplay, but it was cut to make more room for Venom...

There were several ideas that never came to fruition in Sam Raimi's Spider-man trilogy. I guess that Marc Webb is currently making up for that in his own. Over at Jim Carson Design, there's some interesting concept art for Black Cat, Green Goblin, Spidey's suit, and much more. I don't know what it is, but there's something about that Goblin mask that I like. The mechanical suit from the movie was pretty wicked though I'd like to see something closer to the comic version. Aside from the...

Emmys 2012: Snubs (Hugh Laurie and 'Parks and Recreation') and surprises ('Girls' and Tio Salamanca)
The Emmy nominations for 2012 were a little less predictable than they've been in the past, with some perennial nominees getting bumped out in favor of new blood. Which means that the list of snubs and surprise nominations is a little longer than usual.
So let's get to it:
Snubs
"The Good Wife" and its male actors: The CBS series, a best drama nominee in each of its first two seasons, was seen as the commercial broadcast networks' best chance to keep a toehold in the category. It missed the cut, however, as did two of its male stars who were nominees in 2011, Josh Charles and Alan Cumming. You can probably thank (or blame) "Downton Abbey" for that: The PBS show switched from miniseries to drama series this year and snagged both a series nod and two supporting actor nominations, for Jim Carter and Brendan Coyle.
