David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which has been making the festival rounds lately (you can read what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thought of it Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode. So a feature film it is, and Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film, with their plan being to give it a theatrical release next month. The Shrouds will be reaching theatres in New York and Los Angeles on April 18th, then will expand nationwide on April 25th. With those dates right around the corner, a trailer has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

While plenty of die-hard TV lovers have dealt with the dreaded mid-series cancelation of countless shows, fans of MGM+'s supernatural horror series From don't have to (at least for now). Following Season 3's riveting finale back in November of last year, showrunners confirmed that it has already been renewed for a fourth season, and audiences can't wait to unravel more of its captivating story.
Since its 2022 premiere, the show has explored a mysterious town in Middle America that doesn't allow its residents to leave. But that's not the scariest part. The town is also completely surrounded by a sinister forest with nocturnal monsters that can camouflage themselves as regular people to lure their victims to their doom. Created by John Griffin (Crater), executive produced by Lost alums Jeff Pinkner and Jack Bender as well as the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame), and starring Harold Perrineau (Lost), the series and its...

Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. rights to the Toronto International Film Festival breakout film “40 Acres” starring Danielle Deadwyler.
The action-thriller, which comes from debut feature filmmaker R.T. Thorne, also stars Michael Greyeyes (“Firestarter”). The film premiered at TIFF in 2024, gaining wide applause from its audience and film critics. It was listed as one of the festival’s Top 10 films from that year.
The film also stars Kataem O’Connor, Leenah Robinson, Jaeda LeBlanc, Haile Amare, Elizabeth Saunders and Tyrone Benskin. In March, “40 Acres” will make its U.S. premiere at the South by Southwest film festival, which will be followed by a summer theatrical release.
“Writer-director R.T. Thorne has delivered an incredible, intense vision of a world on edge,” Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley said in a Thursday statement. “Danielle Deadwyler’s towering performance as a total badass is one for the ages.

Exclusive: Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to 40 Acres, an action-thriller starring Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Michael Greyeyes (True Detective), from world sales company Visit Films. Hailing from debut filmmaker R.T. Thorne, who wrote the script with Glenn Taylor, the film will be released in theaters in early summer.
World premiering at TIFF, where it was named one of Canada’s Top 10 films of the 2024 festival, 40 Acres is set in a world where a plague has eradicated all animal life and famine has spread across the globe, leaving society at war and in ruins, but the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on their ancestral farm, so long as they dispatch the occasional raiding party. But what good is surviving the end of the world if it means snuffing out your own humanity? Former soldier Hailey (Deadwyler) made that choice years ago, believing that isolation was the only way to protect her family.

Silo is a dystopian sci-fi series created by Graham Yost (Justified) based on a series of novels by Hugh Howey. The season 2 finale aired on January 17 and fans are eager to find something to fill the void until the third season airs on AppleTV+.
The series is set in a dystopian future and follows a community that resides in an underground silo. The ending of Disappearance at Clifton Hill is a shocking finale for the psychological thriller that completely alters the viewing experience second time around. Disappearance at Clifton Hill is a 2020 Canadian thriller from Albert Shin. The movie follows Abby, played by Tuppence Middleton of Downton Abbey, a middle-aged woman who returns to her hometown near Niagra Falls after the death of her mother to claim her inherited motel/casino. Years earlier, Abby witnessed the abduction of a young boy and the event has haunted her since. When she goes home, Abby begins an investigation to discover what happened those years ago.
Though Disappearance at Clifton Hill has some familiar story beats with characters who fit perfectly into standard archetypes, the last third of the film breathes fresh air into what was mostly a traditional noir. The film earned a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, with much of the praise going toward the...

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 10, "Revelations: Chapter Two."
The From season 3 finale sees Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) making a shocking decision when she is alone with Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons). In season 1, Sara hears voices that tell her to kill certain individuals among From's cast of characters. The voices promise that these murders will enable Sara and the other residents to escape the Town, but this is a lie, and the manipulation ends in tragedy when Sara accidentally kills her own brother, Nathan (Paul Zinno).
Many of the residents still do not trust Sara and find her to be one of From's scariest characters, but Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) has learned that she can be counted on, including when she helped him during their journey through the forest in season 1's final episodes. Meanwhile, Elgin has been deeply invested in ensuring that Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) gives birth,...

“You can fall in love with a character, you can get really emotionally invested,” declares “From” star Harold Perrineau, “but they’re just like, ‘yeah, we don’t care, sorry, bye!” For our recent webchat he adds with a laugh, “We are trying to hurt your feelings!” referring to the series’ growing list of casualties as evidence that no character is safe on the horror drama. “Lately it’s been a steady stream of people who are like ‘I love ‘From,’ but if they kill Boyd, I’m gonna be mad!’ Like, I can’t control that!” he laughs. “It’s been really exciting to see that it’s really getting into people’s homes and they’re really digging it.” Watch our video interview above.

The pickup comes a couple days before the show concludes its third season, with its finale scheduled for Sunday. From, which takes place in a town that traps everyone who enters it, has received strong reviews throughout its run and, MGM+ says, is the most watched show in the cable/streaming outlet’s history (though like most streamers, it doesn’t publicly share viewing data).
“From has been a sensation for MGM+, capturing the attention of millions of viewers and helping us to shine a bright light on our MGM+ brand,” MGM+ head Michael Wright said in a statement. “Our talented show creators and cast have brilliantly and carefully crafted this wonderful show, and we look forward to providing the answers the From audience so enthusiastically craves in season four.”

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 9, "Revelations: Chapter One."
From is setting up the death of a major character for the season 3 finale, but it wouldn't be a smart move for the show. Since opening the series with a young girl and her mother being devoured by From's monsters, the story has not been afraid to kill characters. This has continued to be the case with From season 3's deaths, including the monsters killing Tian-Chen Liu (Elizabeth Moy) in front of Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) and Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) murdering Tillie (Deborah Grover).
After a season filled with so much loss, it feels inevitable that it will conclude with the most substantial loss yet. Fatima is seemingly in the most danger as she finds herself pregnant with a bloodthirsty creature, is held captive, and is being forced to give birth against her will. Killing Fatima would be...

The horror genre continues to be a major draw for audiences in movie theaters and on streaming. Most discussion of horror, however, is usually limited to movies, as there are far fewer TV shows in the genre that manage to break through. Though the 2000s was somewhat barren when it came to horror on the small screen, this changed in the 2010s. American Horror Story has been going strong now since 2011, for example, and the cancelled Channel Zero ran for four seasons starting in 2016. The Walking Dead universe also remains popular.
The rise of horror on TV really took off, however, with the rise of streaming and, specifically, the rise of Mike Flanagan. Flanagan brought shows like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, among others to life. Streaming allows filmmakers to push horror boundaries on TV, as has been seen recently with Teacup on Peacock.

In 2010, AMC Networks premiered The Walking Dead, an apocalyptic series that aired for 12 years across 11 seasons. Based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, the series became wildly popular, beyond what anyone could have imagined, and has inspired other series within the genre.
The Walking Dead has been praised for its earliest and final seasons, with mixed reviews for its seventh and eighth seasons. While it is set in an undead apocalypse, the stories revolve around the survivors and their experiences after the outbreak occurred. Many viewers note this is why the series became so popular.
Long-standing cast members for the series include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Several of these characters' stories have continued in the long line of spinoffs of the main series. Let's check out some...

Stars: Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, Sandrine Holt, Elizabeth Saunders, Jennifer Dale, Eric Weinthal | Written and Directed by David Cronenberg
The Shrouds, the latest film from director David Cronenberg is a poorly conceived hodge-podge of ideas about sex, death and technology, with a dash of bog-standard body horror thrown in. Tonally, it’s all over the place, which means it fails to satisfy on a number of different levels.
As the film begins, it feels like jet jet-black comedy, except you’re not sure just how much you’re actually meant to be laughing. It opens in a restaurant, where tech genius Karsh (Vincent Cassel) – who also owns the restaurant – is entertaining a beautiful young woman (Elizabeth Saunders as Gray Foner) on a first date. Abruptly, he insists she accompanies him outside to the adjoining cemetery – which he also owns – so that he can show her not just the...

From season 3, episode 2, "When We Go," has prompted viewers to wonder even more about what's wrong with Fatima's unborn baby. A few episodes before From season 2's cliffhanger ending, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) learned that she was pregnant after asking Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) for a test at the Clinic. Instead of being excited by the news, Fatima kept the development to herself. In fact, the very first person in From's cast of characters that Fatima told about her pregnancy was Donna (Elizabeth Saunders), the fiercely loving head of Colony House. Donna's rare optimism proves both jarring and helpful.
With Donna wanting to celebrate the big news, Fatima explains her hesitancy. Before arriving in From's Town, Fatima learned that she wasn't able to conceive children. This makes the pregnancy something of a miracle. However, given the Township's increasingly supernatural and aggressive developments, the mother-to-be is rightly worried that the miracle...

Spoilers are ahead for From season 3, episode 2, "When We Go."
In From season 3, episode 2, "When We Go," Tabitha's (Catalina Sandino Moreno) unexpected trip through From's lighthouse portal allows her to learn even more about Victor's (Scott McCord) mother, Miranda (Sarah Booth), and his father, Henry (Robert Joy). Back in the Township, Harold Perrineau's Boyd breaks the news of Tian-Chen's (Elizabeth Moy) death to the townspeople and, eventually, Kenny (Ricky He), who returns to Town with Jim (Eion Bailey) and armfuls of edible vegetables. At Colony House, Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) butchers the now-dead animals that From's monsters let loose, and Fatima's (Pegah Ghafoori) pregnancy symptoms worsen.
Given From's massive cast of characters, the second episode of the third outing covers a lot of ground and many threads. While From season 3, episode 1's reveals were action-packed and harrowing, "When We Go" takes a somewhat slower, more expository approach. Although...

Three seasons in, From viewers are still wondering what happened to Abby Stevens (Lisa Ryder), the late wife of the Township's self-appointed sheriff, Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau). Although Abby isn't currently one of the members of From's cast of characters, her presence lingers both figuratively and literally. Created by John Griffin, MGM+'s sci-fi horror TV series centers on a mysterious town that traps all who enter. To make matters worse, the unwilling inhabitants of the town are hunted by From's monsters at night. Luckily, the Township has found a great leader in Boyd, a former Marine.
Like the rest of the townspeople, Boyd, Abby, and their son, Ellis (Corteon Moore), were on a road trip when they encountered a tree blocking their path. After turning around, the trio found themselves in From's strange town. With nightfall approaching, the Stevens family joined a few other residents in an underground shelter to wait out the night.

Season 3 of the captivating sci-fi horror TV series From premiered on MGM+ on September 22, 2024, expanding the action from the mysterious middle of American Township to a hospital in Camden, Maine. As Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) learns how far she has traveled from her home, questions swirl around the strange hellish landscape the characters navigate after being trapped.
As Tabitha's husband, Jim (Eion Bailey), continues to search for her whereabouts outside of Township with Mayor Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau), the clearer the mysterious neighborhood functions as a purgatorial allegory for lost souls trapped in between heaven and hell, with their spirits stuck in a horrifying limbo full of ghoulish monsters and nightmarish creatures of unknown origin. The real question becomes whether the show's creators intentionally planned to make Township a metaphor for the afterlife.

Stephen King certainly knows a thing or two about horror. A master of the genre himself — as an author whose books are constantly adapted for both the big and small screen — King knows what makes a movie or TV show perfectly scary, suspenseful, or spooky. Last spring, he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) about one of his favorite recent projects, the horror series "From."
In May of 2023, King wrote about a show he apparently enjoyed quite a bit and got right to the point. "From: I'm three episodes in," the author began before getting into some specifics about the beginning of season 1. "Wonderful concept, beautifully handled. Is it possible these people are dead and don't know it? That spike through the head ... holy cow."
If you've never heard of "From," you're missing out — especially now that you know it's endorsed by King. The sci-fi horror hybrid, created by John Griffin,...

The premiere of From season 3 has increased the interest in the ghost lady who Elgin Williams (Nathan D. Simmons) keeps seeing in his dreams. Introduced in the show's second season, Elgin is one of the many passengers of the Grand Rapids Runner Bus, which arrives in town in From season 1's finale. However, he stands out from his fellow bus passengers and Township residents for one key reason: Elgin had prophetic dreams about the town before arriving in it. Even so, Elgin's strange visions have done little to unravel From's central mysteries and, instead, have only deepened the puzzle.
Ahead of From season 2's finale, Elgin has increasingly disturbing dreams and revelations. In fact, Fatima's (Pegah Ghafoori) pregnancy, which fellow bus passenger Tillie (Deborah Grover) points out, sparks Elgin's memories of the music box that From's haunting nursery rhyme. Later on, Elgin nearly drowns while asleep. In his dream,...
