The UK’s Film Seekers is launching sales on English-language, Thailand-set kidnapping thriller Crushed from UK director Simon Rumley, ahead of the EFM.

Crushed recently wrapped principal photography after a four-week shoot in Bangkok.

A British pastor and his family’s faith and resilience is tested when their young daughter is kidnapped, and embark on a desperate search with local authorities to find her.

The production stars Steve Oram, Sahajak Boonthanakit and French-Thai newcomer, Margaux Dietrich. Tom Waller of Bangkok-based De Warrenne Pictures produces on behalf of the UK’s Screenprojex. Doug Abbott ofScreenprojex is an executive producer, along withSteveJaggi and Lionel Hicks.

Watching Ryan Gosling in Only God Forgives will quickly wash away all the fuzzy bright-pink memories of the actor singing Im Just Ken in Barbie, and now director Nicolas Winding Refn's critically panned 2013 action film is available to stream on Peacock. Tanaseth Tulyathan is a filmmaker from Bangkok, Thailand, best known for his upcoming feature film “The Chameleon Woman”, which has been selected for the Asian Project Market (Apm), and his short film “Morlam“, which had its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival 2024. He is an alumnus of Ross School in East Hampton, New York, and holds a Bfa in Film and Television from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. Tiger Style Media is partnering with Paramount‘s Republic Pictures for old-school-style martial arts double feature releases. The first two of the four films released this month are Art of Eight Limbs and The Lockdown. Art of Eight Limbs stars Ludi Lin, who plays Liu Kang in 2021’s Mortal Kombat and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. The trailer will likely give viewers some déjà vu as the plot of infiltrating a martial arts tournament led by a criminal comes straight from Bruce Lee’s famous film Enter the Dragon. However, mix it in with some Muay Thai action and it’s a cocktail for some martial arts mayhem.

The official synopsis reads,

In the film, “Sam (Nassim Lyes) is a professional boxer about to be released from prison in France, but while on parole, his past catches up with him and he is forced to flee the country. Five years later, he has rebuilt a simple life on an exotic island in Thailand with his wife Mia and her daughter Dara, working multiple jobs to support his family and buy a piece of land to build a restaurant.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, as they say. Xavier Gens’ new action epic Mayhem! is actually titled Farang in its own language, which in Thai refers to someone who is of Western ancestry. This can be said about the film's lead character; Samir, played with a ferocious intensity by the dashing Nassim Lyes. Samir is a French ex-convict who is out for blood after the mob tracks him down and wreaks havoc on his now-peaceful existence. Mayhem! just screened at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles to a crowd that was cacophonous with shrieks and applause as Samir fistfights his way through an endless stream of villains.

We've seen this tale time and time again on the big screen, but Mayhem! stands out for its no-holds-barred violence that would certainly make martial artists and stunt coordinators — especially folks behind The Raid films — proud.

French filmmaker Xavier Gens (Frontiers, Cold Skin) is back with brand new action movie Mayhem!, and Variety reports today that IFC Films has acquired the film for distribution.

IFC Films will release Mayhem! sometime in 2024. First up, the movie will premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which runs through August 9, 2023.

The film stars Nassim Lyes as Sam. “When he gets out of prison, he finds it difficult to escape the reach of a local gang lord. He heads to Thailand, but searching for a kidnapped family member brings him square into the bullseye of the underbelly he was trying to escape.”

Olivier Gourmet, Loryn Nounay, Vithaya Pansringarm and Sahajak Boonthanakit also star.

IFC Films has acquired Xavier Gens’ action spectacle “Mayhem!” (“Farang”) from Studiocanal ahead of its premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival.

Produced by Vincent Roget (Same Player) and Dimitri Stephanides (WTFilms), “Mayhem!” will be released in 2024.

Reincarnation, artificial consciousness and augmented reality intersect in U.S. director Jake Wachtel’s Cambodia-set “Karmalink,” for which Variety can reveal the first trailer.

The sci-fi mystery will have its world premiere as the opening film of the Venice Film Festival’s Critics’ Week on Sept. 1.

Set in a near-future Phnom Penh, “Karmalink” is about a 13-year-old boy and his street-smart female friend who team up to search for a gold statue from the boy’s past lives, while traveling across town and also back in time.

But what begins as a hunt for a Buddhist treasure soon leads to greater discoveries in the digital realm that could be either enlightening or obliterating.

Wachtel, who grew up in Palo Alto, started developing the film in 2015, while teaching filmmaking in Phnom Penh. He cast two former students as his leads and shot the film on location after living in their community for several years.

Jake Wachtel’s debut feature deals with artificial consciousness and reincarnation.

Cambodia-us sci-fi Karmalink, the debut feature of director Jake Wachtel, will be the opening night film for the autonomous Critics’ Week section at Venice International Film Festival (September 1-11).

The film is written by Wachtel and Christopher Seán Larsen; it is produced by US first-time feature producer Valerie Steinberg for Valerie Steinberg Productions, whose previous credits include Sundance shorts Hair Wolf and Blocks, and Tribeca short Coffee Shop Names.

MGM and Thirteen Lives director Ron Howard have firmed a big international cast to play the heroic rescuers who took part in a dangerous operation that cost one rescue diver — Thai Navy Seal Saman Gunan — his life. All of the boys, and the coach, were saved before floodwaters completely filled the caves.

We have the first trailer for Tremors: Shrieker Island. Originally going under the title "Island Fury," this is the seventh installment in the long-running franchise. This time, Michael Gross is once again back as the gun-loving Burt Gummer for another round with the deadly Graboids. As we can see from the trailer, Burt will have his hands full, not only with the return of the Shriekers, but with some people who don't fully grasp the threat they face. The studio has also revealed the release date and, as promised, the movie will be here just in time for Halloween this October.

Michael Gross shared the update to his Facebook page. The photo features the actor, who plays the gun-loving Burt Gummer, a role he's played since the original was released in 1990. Production on Tremors 7 is currently underway. Burt Gummer actor Michael Gross has shared the first look at the highly anticipated sequel. Gross posted a picture of himself on social media with the caption, "Burt Gummer as you've never seen him before." And as Gross shows, it really is an entirely brand-new look for the character and one that will have long-time fans scratching their heads, or possibly even their chins. Gummer is going to be sporting a new white beard, looking like a mall version of Santa, which isn't really a new look for Gross.

Tremors 7 is reportedly being called Tremors: Island Fury. We have yet to receive confirmation on that, but it appears to at least be the working title for the sequel. With a new look for Michael Gross in the sequel, fans may be getting flashbacks to 2015 when the actor took part in the TV movie Becoming Santa.

While casual movie enthusiasts may not realize it, diehard horror fans know that the Tremors franchise is easily one of the prolific cinematic universes of the past few decades.
