Last time I spoke with Joe Bob Briggs, the beloved horror host expressed his frustration with the biweekly — or fortnightly, as he likes to say — schedule that “The Last Drive-In” adopted for its sixth season.
Premiering tonight on Shudder, the seventh season embraces a new, monthly format with a double feature airing on the first Friday of each month — and Briggs is pleased about that.
“I love it. It’s so easy to tell people it’s on the first Friday of the month, and it’s a double feature,” he beams.
“We had all these East Coast people complaining about the double features, that they had to work the next day and they couldn’t stay up that late, so that’s why we went to the single features. And then we got complaints in the other direction. They said, ‘We miss the double features. It seemed like such...

Ahead of the premiere of “The Last Drive-In” Season 7 this Friday, we’ve learned that horror host Joe Bob Briggs has joined the cast of werewolf film The Fairfield County Four.
And it’s not just any werewolf movie. It’s a found footage werewolf movie!
Check out the official teaser poster below and expect more soon.
Produced by Horror Dadz Productions, Gray Sky Pictures and Eye4Eye, The Fairfield County Four explores the chilling tale of four friends who encounter a terrifying presence in the woods of Fairfield County, Connecticut. This will be the fourth feature film directed by Joshua Brucker.
“For me, I’m always a sucker for a good werewolf film,” Brucker says. “I’ve always wanted to direct one so now I get to take a stab at a sub-genre that I have loved since childhood. And the inclusion of Joe Bob Briggs is just the icing on the cake.

Legendary drive-in movie critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs (who currently has a show on the Shudder streaming service called The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs) has a Patreon account called The Lost Drive-In, where they share the hosting segments from his days on MonsterVision, a TNT show he hosted from 1996 to 2000, and Joe Bob’s Drive-in Theater, which he hosted on The Movie Channel from 1986 to 1996… and one of the recently shared hosting segments might have unearthed a bit of interesting trivia about the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme classic Kickboxer! Specifically, it seems that the makers of Kickboxer might have, at one point, been planning to include a sister character and to put her in jeopardy.
Joe Bob wasn’t the only host presenting movies on The Movie Channel in the ’80s. One of his fellow hosts was Michele Russell, who also had some acting credits to her name.

Joe Bob Briggs is back at “The Last Drive-In,” with Shudder debuting the first trailer for its variety show’s seventh season ahead of its March 7 premiere.
Along with new footage and a promise of many double-features, the show also announced that the first episode would guest feature Spencer Charnas, frontman of the horror-slanted heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills. The program, hosted by Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, also teased its season premiere programming, promising a 100th birthday celebration for “the first great American horror film.” This seventh season will cover more than 30 genre titles.
Charnas had previously teased his visit to the show to fans, posting on his own Instagram earlier this year, saying he is “Pre Lon’d up” — perhaps a reference to silent film star Lon Chaney ahead of the episode’s centennial celebration.

Back in 1987, legendary drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs gathered a bunch of his reviews and newspaper columns and released them in a book called Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In. That book has long been out of print, but now, Joe Bob has teamed up with Dark Horse Books to bring an updated and expanded edition of Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In to store shelves on October 14th! Copies are already available for pre-order on Amazon.
The artbook-sized new edition of Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In features cover art by Wallace McBride, new interior artwork illustrated by Mike Norton and colored by Bill Crabtree, and an introduction by Stephen King. Joe Bob told our friends at Bloody Disgusting, “I’m thrilled that someone still cares about these little pieces dashed off for a daily newspaper four decades ago and was amazed that they were reprinted in book form the first time.

Joe Bob Briggs has had a busy month with two big announcements. The legendary Joe Bob, who now hosts The Last Drive-In on Shudder has a pretty big following of “Mutants” who will be very happy to hear his latest news.
Let’s start with his popular Shudder series, which will be premiering its seventh season in March. The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs began as what was intended to be Jb’s swan song – a 24-hour marathon of classic drive-in fare that included such titles as Sleepaway Camp, Basket Case, Pieces and Tourist Trap.
So many people tuned in that Shudder, who knows a good thing when they see it, invited Jb to come back for a series. Then came another season, and another…and now we are standing at the cusp of season seven.
The format has changed somewhat over time, going from once weekly double features...

Zombie Date Night 2:
Roses are red…
Blood is too.
And the undead are even hungrier
In Zombie Date Night 2!
Ready For The Second Date?
"From the clearly rotted mind of Steve Urena comes the sequel to the critically acclaimed zombie romance comedy, Zombie Date Night!
Still recovering from the awkwardness of their first Zombie Date Night, main characters Jack and Ginger have reached the scariest place to be…the friend zone.
When their survival group realizes they’re running out of food, the enthusiastic and outgoing Ginger leads the charge with a very reluctant Jack to find sustenance before the zombaes (zombies who can only survive with a mate) eat them first. Will the second date be better than the first or will this situationship be food for the undead?
Returning for the sequel is the original team behind the first Zombie Date Night. Incredible art drawn by Sergi Domènech.

Horror cinema has a strange habit of resurrecting itself from time to time. The Universal monsters of the 1930s enjoyed a technicolor reincarnation in the Hammer films of the late 1950s; slasher films bled out by the mid-'80s, but Scream brought them back with a vengeance; and the walking dead just keep coming back for more. Today's zombie fans can easily see why this trope never dies with this list of terrifying 20th-century cult classics and hidden gems.
Everyone knows that George Romero is the reigning champion of zombie cinema, but the tradition he established has begotten a horde of powerful and innovative followers whose films still stand up today. This horror history lesson will show fans of modern hits like The Walking Dead and the 28 Days Later franchise that their faves come from a grand tradition that refuses to stay dead.

Last year, Shudder renewed The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a supersized sixth season that was designed to make sure that legendary movie host / drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs would be an even more consistent presence on the streaming service throughout the year. Normally, a season of The Last Drive-In would see Joe Bob hosting double features every Friday for ten weeks straight. The sixth season took a different approach, having Joe Bob host a single movie every other Friday. Right before that season wrapped up at the end of August, it was announced that Shudder had ordered another season of the show – and now, we’ve learned that the format is getting another shake-up for The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs season 7. Confirmed by Joe Bob himself, this season will consist of monthly double feature episodes, airing on the first Friday of every month. It premieres on Friday,...

Proving once again that the drive-in will never die, “The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs” will return for its seventh season next month on Shudder and AMC+.
After last year’s biweekly — or fortnightly, as Briggs liked to say — programming of single features caused confusion among viewers, the new season is adopting a monthly double feature format.
Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl will host a two-film watch party on the first Friday of every month, beginning March 7, with episodes going on-demand the Sunday after each premiere.
“We’re back to double features this year, so either take a nap in the afternoon or call in sick because we’re gonna get Crazy,” Briggs posted on X.
The beloved horror host also teased that Season 7 is kicking off with a 100th birthday celebration, which is likely to be the 1925 classic silent adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney.

Back in October, Charles Band, founder of the legendary entertainment company Full Moon, will be hosting an event called Church of Chills Live!, a revival of the classic Full Moon Roadshow experience, at the Cleveland, Ohio church that Full Moon recently purchased. There was a screening at Death Streamer, plus appearances by special guests Andrew Divoff (the Wishmaster himself) and Dana DeLorenzo of Ash vs. Evil Dead, along with Robin Sydney, Full Moon’s own “First Lady.” Recently, Band announced that a second Church of Chills event will be held on April 5th, with the festivities including a screening of the uncut version of the original Puppet Master. We’ve previously heard that genre icon Barbara Crampton, who makes a cameo appearance in Puppet Master, will be one of the special guests, along with Diana Prince, a.k.a. Darcy the Mail Girl from The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs and Robin Sydney.

I mention a lot in these video essays about remakes and how they sometimes work but often times don’t. One of the biggest issues I have is that many of the remakes we get are really not needed. I like them but did we really need an updated version of Friday the 13th, Halloween, or Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Of course not, these are classics for a reason. Those are just the ones that work too, there’s plenty like Jacob’s Ladder, Nightmare on Elm Street, or Poltergeist that run the gamut from boring as hell to offensively bad. Well, in 2024 I’m kind of getting my wish. While something like Fade to Black could get a wonderful update 44 years later and be able to say something new and different, I’m curious what a Street Trash remake will bring to the table. The original is one that was a...

Last year, it was announced that the 1987 cult classic horror comedy Street Trash (buy it Here) would be getting a remake from Ryan Kruger, the director of the 2020 body horror film Fried Barry! Kruger’s take on the concept, which moves the story from Brooklyn to South Africa, is now ready to make its way out into the world, as Cineverse holds the North American distribution rights and they’re planning to give the film a VOD release on November 19th. It will then reach the Screambox streaming service sometime in December. With the release date swiftly approaching, Kruger sat down for an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting – and during this conversation, he revealed that he considers the new Street Trash to be a sequel to the original movie, not a remake of it.
The original Street Trash was directed by J. Michael Muro from a screenplay by Roy Frumkes.

Hell Van (2022) follows the small township of Midway, Texas as they face the evil of all evils in the form of a bright red Chevy van. The Slow Mutants and Blind Sight Productions pair up to bring this wild ride of gore, good music, and godless imagery. Writer/Director Jorge Delarosa fashioned a new staple in the genre with a great balance of artistry and precise execution.
The David Lynch-esque opening credit scene lets the audience know that they are in for a surreal 85 minutes. These scenes are woven through the rest of the film along with devilish narration from an unholy radio host, getting more grotesque as the Hell Van unleashes chaos. The juxtaposition between the relatively mundane characters and these artful displays of evilness is a captivating way to unsettle and keep the plot racing forward.

The 1980s horror film Spookies was a notoriously troubled production. Filming began in 1984 with Brendan Faulkner and Thomas Doran at the helm… but then creative and legal issues arose during post-production, so that version of the film (which was going by the title Twisted Souls) was never completed. Instead, an investor hired Eugenie Joseph to shoot new footage – involving a different cast and a lot more monsters – that was then mixed together with the footage left over from Faulkner and Doran. This mish-mash was released under the title Spookies in 1987, and over the decades it has developed a cult following. That’s why producer/co-writer Frank Farel is now moving ahead with the sequel Spookies II: Spookier, and he has told our friends at Bloody Disgusting that FX artists Gabriel Bartalos and Vincent J. Guastini, who worked on the first movie, are coming back for the follow-up!

Legendary horror host Joe Bob Briggs stars as a paranormal radio show host in Cryptids now streaming exclusively on Screambox!
The indie horror anthology features segments about Bigfoot, Frogman, Chupacabra, and more mythical monsters.
“Major Harlan Dean (Briggs) is the host of the widely popular radio show ‘The Truth Serum’, a platform which he discusses all things weird, unknown, and sometimes scary.
“On tonight’s broadcast, Harlan tackles the topic of Cryptozoology to coincide with the annual Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. However, with each caller, something more sinister appears to be waiting in the shadows and this could end up being Harlan’s very last broadcast.
The anthology is jam packed with practical creature feature effects and stories that are reminiscent of 90s’ TV shows ‘Monsters’, ‘Tales from the Crypt’, and ‘Tales from the Darkside’.

Legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs will be welcoming two guests during this year’s special Halloween presentation of his Shudder series The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, a special that’s called Joe Bob’s Beelzebub Bash – and now that the identities of both of those guests have been revealed, we have a good idea of which movies are going to be shown as well. Last week, we learned that one of the guests will be director Jeff Lieberman – and given that this is a Halloween special with a devilish theme, it’s likely that Lieberman will be there to discuss his 2004 film Satan’s Little Helper. Now, Joe Bob himself has revealed that the second guest is actor David Dastmalchian… and it’s highly probable that the movie Dastmalchian will be there to discuss is Late Night With the Devil, especially since that was a Shudder release.

Jeff Lieberman is one of my favorite directors that you don’t hear referenced often enough. He has directed several awesome movies that have dealt with subject matter like killer worms (Squirm), LSD freakouts (Blue Sunshine), homicidal mountain men (Just Before Dawn), brainwashing aliens (Remote Control), and a serial killer stalking the streets on Halloween (Satan’s Little Helper). Thankfully, legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs will be shining a spotlight on Lieberman during this year’s special Halloween presentation of his Shudder series The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, a special that’s called Joe Bob’s Beelzebub Bash! The special is set to air on Friday, October 25th at 9pm Et on Shudder and AMC+ in the US & Canada.

Earlier this year, Shudder renewed The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a supersized sixth season that was designed to make sure Joe Bob Briggs would be an even more consistent presence on the streaming service throughout the year. Normally, a season of The Last Drive-In would see Joe Bob hosting double features every Friday for ten weeks straight. This season has taken a different approach, having Joe Bob host a single movie every other Friday. Following a special Roger Corman double feature on March 15th, season 6 officially got started on March 29th – and it’s going to wrap up with a six movie marathon called The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon (with special guest Rhonda Shear of USA Up All Night!) this Friday, August 30th. But before we get to the end of season 6, Joe Bob has taken to social media to announce that Shudder has renewed The Last Drive-In for season 7!

When I was growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, there were a good number of hosted movie shows to choose from. There was, of course, Elvira. On a local channel, I could watch movies that were presented by the duo of Big Chuck and Lil’ John. On The Movie Channel and later TNT, I could watch drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs host movies. From 1989 to 1998, USA Network aired a hosted movie show on Friday and Saturday nights that was called USA Up All Night, and I regularly tuned in for that. Programming tweaks were made here and there over the years, but for the most part USA Up All Night consisted of three movies that would air from 11 pm to 5 am. Gilbert Gottfried hosted USA Up All Night on Saturday nights, and on January 4, 1991, comedian/B-movie actress Rhonda Shear took over from Caroline Schlitt as the host of the Friday night edition.
