It's taken a while, but the Star Wars prequel trilogy films are finally starting to get all the widespread love and appreciation they have always deserved. Actors like Ahmed Best and characters like Jar Jar Binks are getting the many apologies they've been long owed. But some characters, like Coruscant diner owner Dexter Jettster, have always been fan-favorites.
You may have always loved Dex, but do you know who he's named after? None other than George Lucas's son, Jett. The nickname "Jettster" really turned out to be a great name for an entrepreneurial Besalisk, even though it was Jett Lucas's first.
Jettster has appeared in the Star Wars Expanded Universe outside the films and TV shows on more than one occasion over the last few years -- most recently in a short story published in the From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi anthology in...

Jar Jar Binks may be one of the most infamous characters in the entire Star Warsfranchise, and his fate in the galaxy far, far away has always been a big question for fans. While Jar Jar Binks was first seen as a clueless comedic character who was less than funny, he eventually grew to have a more meaningful relationship with characters and fans. Yet, despite having a significant impact on the events of the Prequel trilogy, Jar Jar Binks became a person who was shunned by the galaxy. He became an unwilling participant in the rise of Palpatine and the Empire.
Jar Jar also played a key role in multiple Star Wars films, namely Attack of the Clones. He introduced a motion into the Senate that gave Chancellor Sheev Palpatine emergency powers over the Republic just before the Clone Wars. This was the beginning of the end for Jar Jar,...

In the world of video games, representation matters. More than just skin tone and background, the way characters are designed, from their personalities to their appearance, can have a lasting impact on how audiences feel. One game that is taking this matter seriously is South of Midnight.
The game is set to launch on April 8th. | Image Credit: Compulsion Games
The game is a highly anticipated action-adventure game from Compulsion Games, especially when it comes to the portrayal of Black characters. While there are many characters from similar backgrounds showing up in the gaming industry, most miss one crucial design choice: Hairstyle.
South of Midnight wants to avoid the stereotypical hairstyle
One of the most notable design choices for the game’s protagonist, Hazel, is her hair. This might seem like a small detail to many, but for the creators behind South of Midnight, it was one of the most...

Movie Legend: George Lucas once claimed that Jar-Jar Binks was on Alderaan when the planet was destroyed by the Death Star.
Few characters in the history of the Star Wars franchise have gotten quite as much negative attention as Ahmed Best's Jar-Jar Binks, a major supporting character introduced in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, who was intended by writer/director George Lucas to be the comic relief character in the film. Things got so bad that Best later revealed that he considered dying by suicide at the time, posting on social media in 2018 at the bridge he considered jumping from with his young son, noting, "20 years next year I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life. It's still hard to talk about. I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival.

The Star Wars franchise is full of countless stories about countless heroes. Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and the launch of a new Star Wars canon, even more heroes have been introduced to the galaxy far, far away. The franchise has also developed a propensity for spin-offs and television-based storytelling, allowing for deep dives into the lives and adventures of secondary characters. Both animated and live-action Star Wars series have shone a fresh light on unexplored corners of the galaxy, bringing new Jedi, rebels and swashbuckling scoundrels to the fore. However, many new Star Wars heroes are still waiting for their moment in the limelight.
In terms of film and television releases, the Disney era of Star Wars kicked off with Star Wars Rebels in late 2014, a series that continued through to 2018. The Star Wars galaxy is a vast and dangerous place, and the Jedi Order has never been a monolithic entity. Over the years, different Jedi factions have emerged — some with specific roles, others built around distinct philosophies. Now, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes has introduced an entirely new Jedi sub-faction: the Jedi Vanguard. This group consists of Jedi who were — or would have been — dedicated defenders of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and frankly, they deserve to be explored on-screen.
Per ScreenRant, the Star Wars video games have always danced between canon and Legends, often introducing concepts that later make their way into official storytelling. The Jedi Vanguard is the latest example, described in Galaxy of Heroes as a specialized Jedi unit tasked with protecting key locations. According to EA’s announcement, the game needed a way to boost specific Jedi characters without overpowering others — especially a certain Jedi Grand Master.

Star Wars Celebration Japan is right around the corner in April, and the guest list is getting bigger by adding a fan favorite actor to the roster. The Star Wars community and other fanbases have been mourning Carl Weathers since his passing almost a year ago. One part of what will be missed during the stages of the Mandoverse is his directing work. The late actor directed two episodes of The Mandalorian series which he starred on.
Weathers played the bounty hunter leader Greef Karga, who turned ally to the main character, Din Djarin, throughout the first three seasons. He also directed episodes of the series in the second and third seasons.
The second season episode that the late actor went behind the camera was the fourth episode of the season, "The Siege." He also co-starred in the episode as Karga. Weathers' direction was praised by fans and critics alike.
Laura Purdum of IGN commented on his direction, saying, " Weathers effortlessly evokes the iconography of the films here... None of it is particularly subtle, but it's deployed...

Jake Lloyd was remarkably cute for a child actor. He was that darling child next to Ah-nald in Jingle All the Way. He was adept at convincing Star Wars fans that he was Anakin Skywalker--the kid who would become Darth Vader. Becoming the sardonic personification of the Dark Side of the Force can play with a blossoming eight-year-old mind. Yet, Lloyd did an admirable job.
The Phantom Menace became nothing short of a prolonged labor of love for George Lucas. Since he is, you know, George-freaking-Lucas, no one is going to continue to bash his octogenarian cranium into an ashtray. However, while the crazed fandom was vociferously shouting at the sun because of Jar-Jar Binks, Jake Lloyd quietly began a lifelong confrontation with an evil he could never explain.
Until now. That was 25 years ago.
Jake Lloyd Speaks Up About His Schizophrenia Although the fandom caused some trouble, they have also brought healing.

The Star Wars franchise has one of pop culture’s most vocal and outspoken fanbases. As a result, the franchise has seen a trend of its actors receiving unfair treatment from the fans, including the unnecessarily aggressive hate directed at Ahmed Best for portraying the comic relief character Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy.

Star Wars released several new TV shows in 2024, and some of them absolutely rank among Star Wars' best TV shows. 2024 proved to be an interesting year for Star Wars. Although there were a number of new and returning TV shows, Star Wars released no new movies, and news about Star Wars' upcoming movies was minimal.
Even more surprising, Star Wars' upcoming TV shows have become quite thin. At present, only Andor season 2 and Ahsoka season 2 are confirmed. This is quite a difference from 2024, which saw the release of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, The Acolyte, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Each of these shows brought something unique to Star Wars, and several of them were truly excellent.

This 7-year-old video from Star Wars Celebration 2017 proves that Hayden Christensen really is the perfect actor to play Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. Anakin is easily one of the most significant characters in Star Wars movies and TV shows, not only because he was the Chosen One, but also because his life and legacy have shaped nearly all events in the Star Wars timeline thus far. This was therefore a massive role to take on, particularly in light of the prequel trilogy following the hugely successful and beloved original trilogy movies.
Yet, as this video from Star Wars Celebration 2017 confirms, Hayden Christensen was the perfect choice for Anakin Skywalker. In the video, posted by galacticempirehayden on TikTok, Christensen lightheartedly jokes about Anakin's well-known hatred of sand, revealing how well he knows his character (and his lines).

From the ground up, "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" seems tailor-made for fans of the original trilogy, and specifically for anyone who saw that 1977 Mos Eisley cantina scene and thought there should be a lot more stories about those guys. It's a scoundrel's show, full of pirate dens, retrofitted blaster pistols, alien puppets, and practical effects. And yet, the longer the series goes on, the more it reveals its hand as a love letter to a very different "Star Wars" movie and one that has received very little love in the Disney era: "The Phantom Menace."
While animated series like "Star Wars Rebels" and "The Bad Batch" have featured young children in prominent roles, we haven't had major live-action child protagonists in the franchise since Jake Lloyd donned the role of Anakin Skywalker back in 1999. And yet, re-centering younger characters in a galactic adventure feels as core to the franchise as X-wings and lightsabers.

Compulsion Games, the studio behind indie titles Contrast (2013) and We Happy Few (2016), has been under the Microsoft umbrella since 2018, but their upcoming action-adventure game, South of Midnight, isn’t your average Xbox title. Aside from providing the budget, Xbox has been relatively hands-off as Compulsion works on its bigger, bolder follow-up to 2016’s retro-futuristic romp, We Happy Few.
That freedom is likely why South of Midnight feels wholly unique: a stop-motion-style, narrative-focused game set in a Deep South town recently ravaged by a hurricane, led by a young Black woman...

George Lucas is the visionary mastermind behind the Star Wars franchise, a pop culture touchstone that remains relevant even today. While Lucas’ original trilogy remains beloved, the prequels and most other projects since the franchise’s sale to Disney haven’t fared well with critics. Nonetheless, Lucas proved long ago that his empire was built on ignoring criticism.

During the prequel trilogy era, Lucas faced considerable criticism for the characterization of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. However, Lucas gave a fitting reply to critics who slammed another aspect of the prequels that is generally disliked by the fans. Here’s what Lucas had to say about some of the biggest Star Wars criticisms and why it didn’t matter to him.

Quick Links There Have Always Been Spiteful Star Wars Fans, but Now They Have Far More Access The Acolyte Wasn't Perfect But Was Starting a Sith-Centric Saga Darth Plagueis The Wise's Story May Never Be Told
I have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember, from flying starfighters in my basement to being in the theaters for the Prequels when they were coming out. The franchise has been a huge part of my life, and I'm always excited for a new project to come out. This is a story that many fans can relate to, and it's what keeps the franchise alive. Yet, there is a sector of the fandom that lives on hatred and vitriol towards almost every new project. It's exhausting to see this part of the fandom rear its head every time something comes out, and nothing brought them out more than The Acolyte.

Ahmed Best played Jar Jar Binks in 1999's The Phantom Menace, the first mainline Star Wars movie since 1983's Return of the Jedi. Immediately, the character was decried as awful, stupid, and one of the worst things to ever happen to the franchise. Best wasn't spared that blowback. In a podcast called The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks, he tells his story.
Best describes how he was approached by a casting director after a performance with his percussive dance group and invited to an audition at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch the following day. Best was over the moon. As a lifelong Star Wars fan and aspiring actor, it was the break of his dreams.
After the audition, he was selected to play Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace, which detail what happened before the original trilogy. Best was thrilled. He was even able to expand his role into a...

Vengeful spirits, grief-stricken souls and a massively ravenous gator lie in wait for saving in Compulsion Games’ upcoming mythical adventure game South of Midnight. Originally announced in a teaser trailer in 2023 during the Xbox Games Showcase, and with a full gameplay trailer follow-up earlier this past summer, the scope of what the game has in store for players has been relatively under wraps. However, we do know so far that South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure inspired by folktales of the Southern Gothic. The story follows a young woman named Hazel, reeling after a hurricane devastates her hometown as she journeys to find her mother, who went missing during the flood. Somehow, pulled into a magical realist reality where folklore creatures emerge, Hazel embraces her powers as a Weaver—a magical mender of broken spirits—to...

Star Wars secretly dropped a massive Darth Jar Jar clue five years ago. "Darth Jar Jar" is one of the most delightful fan theories of the prequel era; the idea that Jar Jar Binks is just too clumsy and too lucky to be believed. According to this theory, with seems to rightly amuse actor Ahmed Best himself, he is in fact the true "Phantom Menace" - a Sith Lord operating in secret to help Palpatine rise to power.
The Darth Jar Jar theory is popular enough that it even found its way into Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, which brought Best back to gleefully declare Jar Jar had always been the Phantom Menace. There are, surprisingly, quite a few details supporting the Darth Jar Jar theory - ranging from moments when Jar Jar literally destroyed enemies through his apparent clumsiness, to leaps and dives that do indeed look a little Force-assisted.

Today is the 12th anniversary of Disney buying Star Wars, and it's been a wild ride. I was trying to think of the scope of the two years of lead-up and ten years of actual content, and it's a lot of content. So much that unless you're a YouTube channel like Star Wars Explained or something where it's your day job to watch every Star Wars, it's pretty much impossible to consume everything. Because of that, there is something I think we should normalize more going forward:
It's okay not to like everything in Star Wars.
I wrote about this topic last year, but it's always good to have a refresher course. I would say it's something that some fans seem to struggle with, but the way social media is nowadays, that's a grift which you can read more about here in point #3.

It's been confirmed that Nick Frost (Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy) will be in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, voicing a droid that the four kid main characters find. Named Sm-33, this droid is very much evoking the pirate vibe that's been a big part of the promotional material so far. But is that the only character that Frost is playing?
While promoting his newest horror film, Get Away, Frost spoke in a long interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his career. Of course, Skeleton Crew came up where he said something of note. Frost said:

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy tells the story of a young, Force-sensitive boy named Sig whose discovery of a mysterious Jedi artifact leads to his entire galaxy being scrambled. The heroes he once looked up to are now the villains of the Star Wars universe, including his brother, Dev. Sig, along with some new companions, attempts a daring mission to put his galaxy back together again.
In this miniseries, the new characters encounter fan-favorite Jedi and Sith, whose allegiances have now flip-flopped. Amid the excitement of fights and wacky character swaps, it is a sweet story of the relationship between the two brothers, as Sig fights to save the person he cares for most. Here are my rankings for the four episodes, from best to worst.

There are many popular fan theories in the Star Wars universe, some far more outlandish than others. One Star Wars theory that still holds some weight among the fandom is whether the infamous Jar Jar Binks might be a Sith Lord masquerading as a complete and utter buffoon. Though it might seem far-fetched at first glance, there is amusing circumstantial evidence suggesting it might hold water.
The Darth Jar Jar theory has had something of a resurgence after Ahmed Best, who provided the voice and motion capture for Jar Jar in the prequel trilogy, returned to Star Wars in The Mandalorian season 3. This leads many to look again at Jar Jar's actions, which undeniably paved the way for the rise of the Galactic Empire. The question is whether these actions were accidental or intentional.

Now, an in-universe explanation has been revealed as to why the Star Wars timeline was rebooted (from a very surprising place).
