In the late ’80s and early ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for violent movies like RoboCop and Rambo to be turned into Saturday morning cartoons for kids, but The Toxic Avenger still seemed like an unlikely candidate — until the 1984 low-budget gorefest was cleaned up for “Toxic Crusaders” in 1991.
An environmentally-conscious superhero cartoon in the vein of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Captain Planet,” the show ran for one season. All 13 episodes are coming to Blu-ray from Troma on December 10.
While originally animated on 16mm film, “Toxic Crusaders” was mastered on videotape for broadcast, including all digital effects and transitions. To present the series in the best possible quality, Troma has used advanced AI models to upscale the standard definition masters in high definition to capture the original broadcast’s intended experience.

Many of the Transformers movies are available to watch on streaming now, giving audiences time to catch up before Transformers One. Over the years, Transformers has gone through multiple iterations, including the TV series The Transformers in the 80s as well as numerous other films. The bulk of the Transformers live-action movie series is now synonymous with Michael Bay, who has been involved with the vast majority of the series.
The Transformers movie universe is expanding with the release of Transformers One. Unlike its most immediate predecessors, Transformers One is a fully animated project. It explores the backstory of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who grew up as friends before becoming notorious enemies later on in the series. Additionally, a Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie is in the works. Those interested in catching the Transformers series can do so on streaming platforms.

What's the most shocking moment in children's cinema? The death of Bambi's mother in Disney's 1942 classic titled, well, "Bambi," has to be up there. It's bloodless, but more impactful because of that; the movie doesn't revel in the death, it's just a matter of life.
The animals in "Bambi" are less humanized than in later Disney pictures. They're drawn and live as real beasts; even what little dialogue there is in "Bambi" feels like a creative compromise. The incomprehensible force named Man snatching away Bambi's mother is the reality for deer dogged by hunters. Notice too how Bambi's mother dies in the winter; it's not just to make the scene extra moody, but because winter is the season of death. The film then jumps ahead to spring and when it reintroduces Bambi, he's grown into a young stag; his childhood ended that snowy day. It's all the unforgiving circle of life.

Everett Peck, whose comic-book creation Duckman was adapted into a late-1990s animated series with Jason Alexander voicing the lewd private-eye title character, died Tuesday, June 14, of cancer in California. He was 71.
On the illustrator’s Instagram page, a simple announcement reads, “Mr. Peck has left the studio… Oct. 9, 1950 – June 14, 2022.”
Alexander, who was co-starring on Seinfeld during the 1994-97 Duckman series run on USA Network, called Peck “a genius animator and cartoonist who brought Duckman to life.”
“It was an honor to voice his beloved creation and a joy to have known Everett,” Alexander tweeted yesterday. “He was one of a glorious kind. My best to his family&friends.”
The animated series – the full rarely used title was Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man – was based on the character Peck created for a 1990 comic book published by Dark Horse Comics. Peck created and developed the series, which also featured the voices of Gregg Berger,...

Peck died Tuesday in Solana Beach, California, of complications from a long battle with pancreatic cancer, his wife, Helen, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Peck created Duckman for a 1990 one-off comic book published by Dark Horse Comics while pitching the idea for an adults-only animated series. It finally made it to the air in 1994 on the USA Network via Klasky-Csupo (the original production company behind The Simpsons), ran four seasons through 1997 and was nominated for three Emmys.

In the history of video games there have been a Lot of Transformers games; from the 1986 Japan-only Nes game Mystery of Convoy (later available in some countries via Nintendo’s Virtual Console) to the more recent Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. And when it comes to video games Transformers titles are definitely a mixed bag – the last title I actualy found myself Really enjoying was 2010′s on-rails Wii shooter Transformers: Cybertron Adventures, which was based on the War For Cybertron comic and toy line rather than the cartoon.
Unbelievably, at least in the West, there hasn’t a video game based on the original G1 iteration of the franchise since the 1980s (not counting the mobile phone turned-based title) and the era of the Spectrum and Commodroe 64, making Transformers Devastation something of a big deal in the Transformers community. Scream Factory is resurrecting another cult classic in HD—The Legacy, starring the always badass Sam Elliot—and for those of you David Duchovny fans out there, season one of Aquarius is being released by Anchor Bay this week, too.

So if you guys have been around here you know I love Transformers and fo those that don't know I Love Transformers. The toys, the cartoons, the movies...some of them. But one thing the movies did bring was some tie in video games that were not too bad opening the door for a series based on the Great War on Cybertron. Well now Activision with PlatinumGames is realeasing and new game and guys it's G1!
Transformers: Devastation is an all new cell shaded style game harking back to the Idw comic book style. It looks like transforming on the fly from robot to alt mode has returned which was one thing I loved about the previous games. As you play through the game you'll find ways to make your Autobot team stronger to take on threats from the evil Decepticons though I do agree with some of Megatron's points.

Fans of the 1990s’ Spider-Man: The Animated Series, rejoice - the stellar voice cast are teaming up for new show War Of The Rocketmen…
For children of the 1990s, and presumably those who parented children in the 1990s, and anyone who just loves a good superhero animation, Spider-Man: The Animated Series is swathed in good will and nostalgia.
The show, which serialised Spidey’s legacy in 30-minute chunks, was undeniably excellent. We recall a particularly brilliant arc about Morbius The Vampire.
The cast reunited for a panel at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo over the weekend to discuss the show’s twentieth anniversary, and announce their new project.
"You are the current avatar of this Marvel deity. This is our Iliad. This is our Odyssey," recalled Spidey-voicing actor Christopher Daniel Barnes, speaking of the responsibility of the role. "It touches something universal in us. When you get the chance to...

Two years ago, fans of robots-in-disguise collectively groaned when they learned that High Moon Studios was working on a Transformers game. You see, there hadn’t been a good game based on the long-running franchise in…well…ever. Much to our surprise, Transformers: War for Cybertron was actually really freakin’ cool. When a sequel was announced at the Video Game Awards last year, High Moon could do no wrong.
Aside from a few odd missteps, they’ve made an already amazing game even better with Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
You see, part of what makes the Cybertron games so great is the same reason that the Arkham games were such great Batman games. The game wasn’t rushed to coincide with some release date of a corresponding movie. No, the development team was free to do as they please in the universe they’re given. And boy what...

It seems like if you like your giant robot fighting a little more cerebral then you'll feel right at home with a more adult narrative along all the explosions because they mentioned how much further the story would be pushed after the Autobots lose to a superior Decepticon force. The main plot points revolve around Optimus Prime and gang trying to find a way to either save or abandon their dying planet of Cybertron. You can probably assume a few noble sacrifices along the way but, really, it's all about massive metal T-rexes burning lasers through Volkswagons.
Details aside, things get a little silly when Gregg unleashes his vocal talents for the dynamic robo-dino; so, enough of my jabber-jawing,...

Here's what happened during Sdcc when High Moon Studios' Matt Tieger was joined by Fall of Cybertron voice actors Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Gregg Berger (Grimlock), and Nolan North (Cliffjumper) to talk about letting players see the end of the last, great battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
Tieger launched into an explanation about the story and gameplay for the game, which follows War of Cybertron, where the heroic Autobots lost. Fall of Cybertron is about the death of their world. The design philosophy of the new game is about showng Cybertron and engaging with the planet and combat through the unique perspectives of each character.
High Moon Studios worked closely with Hasbro on developing the game's story, basing much of it on G1 Transformers and where possible or necessary, rewriting canon, particularly when it comes to the firebreathing space T-rex, Grimlock.

The publisher is demoing some their upcoming titles, plus a new game announcement during Sdcc.
Details on demos and panels after the jump.
Activision is doubling up on their Transformers stuff at this year's Comic-Con, showing off the multiplayer mode in Fall of Cybertron as well as the Wii adaptation of Transformers: Prime at their booth (#5344) throughout the show. Activision will also be demoing the recently-released The Amazing Spider-Man, and presenting The Fall of Cybertron and 007 Legends onstage.
If you're hitting up the panels, Activision will be bringing some of the Fall of Cybertron voice talent on stage Saturday, and later in the day, the publisher will be revealing a new game with Marvel (likely that Hit-Monkey title that leaked a couple of days back).
You can check out the full panel details below:

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Peter Cullen (Optimus) and Gregg Berger (Grimlock) are joined by Nathan Drake himself, Nolan North as the Fall of Cybertron cast gets fleshed out.
The voice cast, which includes Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes voice actor Fred Tatasciore (Megatron, Ratchet, Metroplex) along with Guinness Record holder for most video game voice roles, Steve Blum (Shockwave, Swindle, Sharpshot), looks to have been filled out quite nicely with a selection of veteran voice actors. The only downside: Frank Welker, voice of the original Megatron and currently handling the character on the franchise's latest animated incarnation, Transformers: Prime, is nowhere to be seen (or heard, I guess).
The announcement promises that more names are on the way, but in addition to North as Bruticus, Cliffjumper, and Brawl, we've got Troy Baker as Jazz, Jetfire, and Kickback, as well as Isaac Singleton as Soundwave.

Activision has officially announced that Peter Cullen and Gregg Berger will reprise their G1 roles as Optimus Prime and Grimlock Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. So fans of the original series can get psyched for a whole lot of “Me Grimlock, kick butt.”
In a recent behind-the-scenes interview with Cullen, the long time Transformers veteran stated that the new Fall of Cybertron story is more “involved” than the feature film. The voice talent cites the “emotion” driven story in the game and discusses the relationships of Optimus to his fellow Autobots.
Editor’S Pick: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron – Hands-on with G1-Inspired Brilliance
The new story co-developed by Hasbro’s Aaron Archer, rewrites official Transformers canon and features an all new origin for Grimlock. It will be great to hear Berger reprise his role as the famed Transformer. Fans of the 1986 animated feature film definitely...

Just what your week needed: a flame-spewing T-rexbot.
Spoilers: the Cybertron fell because they still had a pesky T-rex problem. You don't want to be messing with a T-rex, even if you are a 30-foot tall robot. That right there is just math.
In this new video, High Moon Studios walks us through their vision for the leader of the Dinobots, who'll be a sword and shield brawler in Fall of Cybertron. Meaning, he'll play like a smash and trash "heavy" character, allowing him to pick up and throw enemies in the game. He's also the only character with a Rage meter behind which his dinosaur form is locked. In that mode, he can set enemies on fire and chomp them between his steel jaws.
The video promises that we'll be getting origins for some of the Transformers here, so here's looking forward to learning more about this mighty dino...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

Next month, the geek world will converge on San Diego, California, it it’s yearly celebration of the popular arts, in the form of Comic Con International. This will be my 18th year attending the festival, although my first as a member of the “press.” I use that term lightly as I consider us here at the Criterion Cast, more like passionate amateurs (a term recently popularized by Michael Chabon), than actual film journalists. We certainly take everything we do here seriously, as evidenced by our commitment over the past year to producing multiple weekly podcasts, attending film screenings, and over the past six months, we’ve covered various film festivals (Sundance, SXSW, and Tribeca) to bring our unique cineaste perspectives towards the upcoming crop of films and filmmakers.

If you were a kid growing up in the 1980s, your afternoons just didn't get any better than watching the wonderful animated adventures of Transformers and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and yes, I was one such kid. Yes, I loved both of these series and one man was at the vocal center of both of these series. Joe: A Real American Hero and you can find the Complete Series of both of these wonderful cartoons on DVD shelves now ( and to find out all the details on these massive new sets).
While I was down in San Diego for Comic-Con 2009, I had the honor of sitting down and talking to Berger for an exclusive conversation about these classic characters and his career in voice work as a whole.
