Exclusive: Fox has given a script commitment to Elfquest, a one-hour animated drama series based on the epic fantasy adventure comic series created by Wendy and Richard Pini, from Rodney Rothman and Adam Rosenberg’s Modern Magic. Susan Hurwitz Arneson (The Last Amazon) will pen the series adaptation and serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Created in 1978, Elfquest, published by Dark Horse Comics, is a fantasy story about a community of elves and other fictional species who struggle to survive and coexist on a primitive Earth-like planet with two moons.

Rothman and Rosenberg will executive produce for Modern Magic, along with Arneson and Wendy and Richard Pini. Bento Box Entertainment is the studio.

“ElfQuest couldn’t be in better hands,” said Wendy and Richard Pini in a statement to Deadline. “Our collaborators trust the story. We have the highest regard for their previous achievements, and they have our blessing and input.

Filmmaker Alberto Mielgo wore multiple hats including director, screenwriter, editor, sound design and music for “The Windshield Wiper,” screening in the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. The animated short follows a middle-aged man who asks himself and the audience, what is love?

Through vignettes, the man goes on a journey as he reaches a conclusion and answers the question. The Spanish-born director wanted to challenge traditional animation with an adult-themed approach and using an untraditional color palette inspired by David Lynch’s filmmaking style as he navigates love and relationship.

Andrew Calder, Anka Tiribeja, Cara Whitfield, Charlie Bean, Eboni Adams Fany Rosen, Jake Bercovici, John Duffin provide voices for the short.

Just in time for the holidays is Disney+ original new movie Lady And The Tramp.

In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” life is good for Lady, an overachieving American Cocker Spaniel who resides in an upscale suburban neighborhood. Her owners, Jim Dear and Darling, spoil her daily and her neighbors, Jock, an outspoken Scottish Terrier and Trusty, a world-weary Bloodhound, are always within barking distance. But when a baby enters the picture, Lady is no longer the center of attention, and the arrival of cat-loving Aunt Sarah only complicates matters. Lady soon finds herself alone on the streets in an unwelcoming part of town. Fortunately, Tramp steps in, and the streetwise mongrel is quick to teach her the ways of the world. Before long, the prim and proper purebred and the fast-talking mutt are partaking in moonlight strolls in the park and romantic spaghetti dinners by candlelight.

, Charlie Bean’s new “Lady and the Tramp” is the perfect movie to kick off the next phase of the streaming wars: It’s new but familiar, safe but unsound, and somehow well-furnished but also cheap-looking. Most of all, it clearly only exists because an entertainment conglomerate felt compelled to build a platform before it had enough material to support it — because the tail is wagging the dog.

The good news is that “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book,” and the rest of Disney’s technology-driven remakes have conditioned us to be grateful for small favors, and most viewers will probably salivate at the mere sight of real animals. And while the decision to digitally move the dogs’ snouts when they speak English to each other is almost off-putting enough to negate the effect altogether, fur-and-blood puppies aren’t the only pleasantly old-fashioned thing about this “Lady and the Tramp.

Disney's live action version of Lady and the Tramp is a wonderful remake of the classic '50s cartoon. I must admit to being skeptical before watching. Will this be another soulless, unoriginal retread meant to squeeze easy money from generations of fan sentimentality? But just like Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King, my negative preconceptions were completely squashed. Lady and the Tramp is a well-made, heartwarming family film. Its sugary sweet plot becomes infectiously entertaining. If it can put a smile on my grouchy face, children and parents will surely by delighted.

The first Disney+ original movie arriving alongside Noelle, Lady and the Tramp takes place at the turn of the 20th century in a quaint, but bustling river town. Jim Dear (Thomas Mann) gives an adorable cocker spaniel puppy to his wife, Darling (Kiersey Clemons). They name her Lady (Tessa Thompson). She is beloved by her owners.

In the age of streaming media, what’s the contemporary answer to the cheap, disposable, direct-to-video Disney sequels that used to clog up VHS shelves in decades of yore? The answer may look something like “Lady and the Tramp,” the latest of many nominal “live-action” remakes of beloved titles from the studio’s animated canon — but the first to bypass theaters, bowing directly on the company’s glossy new Disney+ VOD platform. Say what you will about director Charlie Bean’s new “Lady and the Tramp,” but it stands out from the rest of the recent Disney live-action remakes. This isn’t a film that’s been remade to dazzle audiences with big-budget fantasy spectacle. It’s just a story about two dogs who fall in love in backyards and alleyways.

This new “Lady” was probably never going to break box-office records, yet it’s too iconic to go straight to video with the implication that it’s the runt of the Disney live-action remake litter.

So it makes sense that “Lady and the Tramp” will instead debut on the new streaming service Disney+, where its pedigree looks impressive while audience expectations can still be a little more modest than if a hundred dollars had just been plunked down for a whole family’s worth of tickets and a bunch of snacks.

The divas on display at Tuesday’s special screening of “Lady and the Tramp” were of the four-legged variety. It was a night that brought out A-listers such as Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, but those stars were outshone by Rose and Monte, the two canine actors who portray the title characters in the live-action remake of the animated classic. Both walked the red carpet, accompanied by trainers, posing for pictures and barking when the klieg lights grew tiresome. Disney+ dropped a new trailer for its live-action version of “Lady and the Tramp” Tuesday morning — and this one features a bit of the famous meatball scene we all know and love from our childhoods.

In the video above, you’ll find your first glimpse of the moment where Tramp (voiced by Justin Theroux) noses over a the last meatball to Lady (voiced by Tessa Thompson) while the two canines share a plate of spaghetti on a lovely bella notte.

Disney released the first official trailer of the live-action remake Lady and the Tramp on Friday at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, and gave a glimpse into the romantic adventures of Lady, the American Cocker Spaniel, and Tramp, a mongrel pup.

The trailer showcases some of the animated 1955 classic’s most memorable scenes, including the famous moment the dogs share a bowl of spaghetti.

“I’ve got no leashes, or fences, with me, every day could be an adventure,” Tramp tells Lady in the trailer, trying to convince her to join the street-dog life.

Ready your dog-friendly bowl of spaghetti, Disney has debuted the first trailer for its live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp,” starring Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux.

The teaser was released during Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim at the Disney + presentation.

In addition to Thompson and Theroux, who play the Lady and Tramp, respectively, Janelle Monáe also voices the iconic singing pound pup, Peg. Thomas Mann and Kiersey Clemons will play Lady’s married owners. Similar to the past Disney adaptations of their animated classic such as “Lion King” and “Jungle Book,” the majority of the cast will be played by CGI characters.

Marc Lawrence’s Christmas movie Noelle, which once had a theatrical release date, follows Santa’s daughter played by Anna Kendrick who must track down her brother Nick when he goes missing. Lawrence wrote and Bill Hader, Billy Eichner, and Shirley MacLaine star.

Also hitting streaming is Tom McCarthy’s Timmy Failure based on Stephen Pastis’ illustrated book. The pic follows an 11-year old boy who believes that he is the best detective in town runs the agency Total Failures with his best friend, a 1,200 pound polar bear.

Disney Studios held a big presentation today for investors regarding their upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Some news is starting to trickle out of that event and we now have our first look at the Disney+ interface.

While they were showing off the interface they offered the first image of their live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp and they also showed The Mandalorian and the Falcon & Winter Soldier series logos.

In a world where technology allows artists to create lifelike, photorealistic animals in CGI, it’s surprising to learn that Disney’s new Lady and The Tramp film is actually shooting with real dog actors.

The reveal comes from actor Thomas Mann, who plays Jim Dear, the owner of Lady, the refined and pampered cocker spaniel who falls in love with Tramp. While talking to Collider, Mann said the film is “an enhanced version of the world” that we saw in the film and the characters are “a little more fleshed out.” He went on to say:

Actress and pop star Janelle Monáe is joining the voice cast of Disney’s live-action reboot of “Lady and the Tramp” opposite Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Monáe will voice the role of Peg, a wise-cracking friend of Lady’s, voiced by Thompson. Peggy Lee voiced the role of Peg in the original animated film from 1955.

Representatives for Monáe did not immediately reply for comment.

Disney has launched development on a remake of its animated comedy “Lilo & Stitch” as a live-action/CG hybrid movie.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing the remake with Mike Van Waes hired to write the script. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is co-producing. Lin and Eirich are producing Disney’s live-action “Aladdin,” due out in May with Will Smith starring.

Disney has not indicated whether “Lilo & Stitch” will be a standard theatrical release or for its yet-to-be-titled streaming service that is set to launch in 2019.

The original “Lilo” was written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders and followed a Hawaiian girl named Lilo and the bond she formed with a destructive blue alien named Stitch. It grossed a respectable $273 million at the worldwide box office.
