- Was a member of the 2001 Nuyorican Poetry Slam Team representing them in the national poetry competition.
- Went to NYC's Stuyvesant High School.
- Grew up in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
- Performed original poetry as an original cast member of the play, 'The Violence Project' by Obie-award winning director Liz Swados.
- Won the 2014 Ovation Award Winner for Lead Actor in a play (The Recommendation), this was his first nomination.
- Formed a Hip-Hop/R&B group with fellow actor/singer Brandon Scott called 'Sin City'.
- Appeared in the first national tour of the Pulitzer-prize winning play, 'Wit'.
- Nominated for a 2014 Ovation Award for Lead Actor in the play, The Recommendation.
- Barrett was nominated for an Ovation Award (2018) for Original Play for "Brain Problems" which he wrote and starred in. This was his first nomination and the first full-length play he had ever written.
- Malcolm Barrett is featured on "The Boys" as part of Vought Industries copywriter duo, Seth (Reed) and Evan, an obvious not to well-known producers of the show, Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg.
