It's always nice to hear a story where someone tells Hollywood to go f*ck itself. Which is, quite literally, what James Patterson did when executives asked him to re-write his iconic Alex Cross character as a white man. And now Cross television star Aldis Hodge — who plays the titular character — is speaking out about what it means to have kept Alex Cross a Black man.
Speaking with BuzzFeed, Hodge explained that he was "shocked, impressed, and proud" when he heard the author of the wildly successful Alex Cross novels was asked by some Hollywood executives to sign a seven-figure deal — but only if he changed the character's race to white.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Patterson explained the story as such:
"Here's an interesting thing about the Hollywood 'Cross' stuff. When I wrote the first Alex Cross book, I didn't have a lot of money and Hollywood came calling — knock,...

Making its Prime Video debut on November 14, 2024, Cross is a popular crime series that has remained atop the platform's most-watched shows. Based on the fictional Washington, D.C. detective featured in 30 Alex Cross novels by James Patterson, the eight-part series has drawn plaudits for its towering performance by Aldis Hodge as the title character. The show's critical success and wide viewership led Amazon to renew the series for Season 2.
Of course, discussing Cross Season 2 without clarifying what transpires at the end of Season 1 is impossible. Core to Cross' investigative focus is identifying who murdered his wife, Maria. Meanwhile, the mysterious murder of a political activist occupies Cross' work duties, with the shocking confluence of events in the Season 1 finale setting up Season 2's storyline. Aldis Hodge's Alex Cross isn't leaving Prime Video anytime soon. Ben Watkins, the creator and showrunner of Cross, has shared a major update on the crime thriller series' future on the Amazon streamer.
Speaking with Collider, Watkins was asked for an update on Season 2 of Cross, which was confirmed by the streamer in April 2024. "Season 2 is actually filmed. Skye P. Marshall as Olympia and Matt Baram as Ezra Radcliffe in ‘Matlock’
Matlock is a whole new take on the classic courtroom drama. First of all, the new Matlock is Kathy Bates as Maddie Matlock. The second is that it takes place in a world where the Andy Griffith Show exists. The third is a spoiler.
One of the new characters Maddie meets at her new law firm is Olympia (Skye P. Marshall). Olympia is a bit of a foil to Maddie, or vice versa, since the firm forces Olympia to let Maddie consult on her cases.
The Television Critics Association visited the set of Matlock this summer. In Olympia’s office, Marshall spoke to press about her character. Matlock airs Sundays at 8pm Et/Pt on CBS.
Were there hints in the pilot that Olympia is not always going to be the ballbuster?
Skye P. Marshall: “Oh absolutely.

It's game over for The CW's new comedies Seed and Backpackers. The smallest network has cancelled and pulled the low-rated comedies after just two airings.

The rest of the cast includes Carrie-Lynn Neales, Amanda Brugel, Stephanie Anne Mills, Laura De Carteret, Matt Baram, Vanessa Matsui, Abby Ross, and William Ainscough.
Backpackers follows Brandon (Dillon Casey) and Ryan (Noah Reid) as they travel through Europe looking for Ryan's girlfriend girlfriend Beth (Meghan Heffern). Giacomo Gianniotti plays Andrew, Brandon's slacker brother.
Both shows had dismal launches last week, attracting fewer than 600,000 viewers each. The numbers got even worse this week. Based on the fast affiliate ratings, Backpackers dropped 40% and Seed fell 20%.

A comedy series, Seed is produced in Canada. It has been such a success there that the show has already been renewed for a second season. Will Seed's ratings be high enough for The CW to want to air all of the episodes or, will they cancel it? Stay tuned.

Lesbian pregnancy is one of the queer community’s time-honored clichés. The subject (and the stereotype) has been covered in everything from The L Word to a glut of so-so Lgbt films (see: Tick Tock Lullaby, Goldfish Memory) to mainstream TV’s favorite “very special episodes.”
It was therefore almost shocking to find one of the most original, inventive and entertaining lesbian films of recent days in The Baby Formula. While premised on a lesbian pregnancy, the film is really about parenthood, family, and, more broadly, love.
Framed realistically (with just a pinch of sci-fi speculation tossed in), with truly excellent performances by both leads and the strong ensemble cast, it deserves a place on every queer parent’s watch list.
We begin with a close-up shot of two women snuggling on a porch. A documentary director and her camera crew look on, rapt. “Athena wants to have my baby,...
