Joe and Anthony Russo are in talks to become Avengers directors once more, returning to helm the next two (!!) Avengers movies. This would mark a homecoming for the filmmakers, who previously helmed the Marvel Cinematic Universe entires Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The Russo Brothers’ return to the Avengers franchise comes at a high-stakes time for the MCU. Originally, the fifth Avengers movie was to be subtitled The Kang Dynasty. Those plans were upended when Marvel’s Kang, Jonathan Majors, was arrested for and eventually found guilty of assault charges. Director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) left the project shortly before Majors’ conviction, and Marvel reportedly then went to Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy, who turned it down.

Gina Carano has been fighting and is now suing Disney over her dismissal from “Star Wars” and the damage to her reputation. Her issues started when she politely refused to put pronouns in her bio on Twitter, and she was fired after posting about how people were manipulated into hating Jewish people during the Holocaust.
This is the comment that got her labeled as “abhorrent” by Lucasfilm and Disney:
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children… Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Gina Carano rose to global prominence through her role alongside Pedro Pascal in ‘The Mandalorian,’ where the character was tailor-made for her, becoming one of the series’ most beloved figures. However, Carano was ultimately dismissed by Disney, and her character was written out of the show, sparking a significant online controversy.
The reasons behind her departure are well-documented: Disney chose not to renew her contract primarily due to her political and ideological views, which clashed with Disney’s policies. This included her outspoken stance against woke culture, among other controversial statements. Consequently, her character was removed from ‘The Mandalorian,’ and the series continued without her.
Carano has initiated legal action against Disney, seeking reinstatement or compensation. However, she has also repeatedly criticized her former employer, prompting Disney to respond assertively. The company filed a motion to dismiss, addressing Carano’s statements which they deemed excessive.

Back in April, we got confirmation that The Fantastic Four will introduce a female take on Marvel Comics' classic space-faring hero, the Silver Surfer - but not the version of the character fans are most familiar with.
Emmy Award-winner Julia Garner will play the movie's Surfer, but not a gender-switched take on Norrin Radd. Garner will actually take on the role of Shalla-Bal.
In the original Marvel Comics continuity, Shalla-Bal was the Empress of the planet Zenn-La, and was the first love of Norrin Radd. When Galactus came to devour their planet, Radd volunteered to become his herald in exchange for sparing Zenn-La. Later, when Franklin Richards took over as the new Galactus, he imbued Shalla with the same cosmic powers and allowed her to serve as a twin herald alongside Radd.

Star Wars remains one of the most influential franchises in history. Whether you’re a fan or not, its impact is undeniable, with familiar names and titles known worldwide. Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the franchise has undergone changes, not always positive, but has also expanded, resulting in a wealth of new Star Wars content. Among these productions is the widely acclaimed series ‘The Mandalorian,’ featuring Pedro Pascal in the lead role.
The series has enjoyed global success but has also sparked controversy, particularly with the dismissal of Gina Carano. Now, another potential controversy looms as an extra has disclosed a noteworthy practice employed by ‘The Mandalorian’ producers.
This report stems from an interview with Nicole Kreuzer, an extra from the first season of ‘The Mandalorian’ (filmed in 2018), published by ‘Capital & Main.’ Kreuzer revealed a peculiar practice: phones were locked away to prevent leaks, and actors underwent extensive face scanning with over 100 cameras.

Avengers: Secret Wars is one of the most anticipated movies in the history of the superhero genre, especially after all the events that have happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. But some fans are making the mistake of thinking that this upcoming Avengers 6 movie is going to be focused merely on the rivalry between Reed Richards and Doctor Doom.

Gina Carano gained global recognition for her role alongside Pedro Pascal in ‘The Mandalorian.’ Her character was tailored to fit the actress, quickly becoming one of the series’ most beloved figures. However, Carano’s tenure with Disney came to an abrupt end when she was let go, leading to her character being written out of the show—a saga that unfolded prominently online.

The legacy of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was such that a young Russell Crowe was overnight taught to regard himself as a celebrity of great public standing. He was no longer a wet-behind-the-ears Aussie, out trying his luck in Hollywood. The momentous shift in history that defined the launch of the film immediately cleaved the industry into two eras: pre and post-Gladiator.

As with leading men, the winner of Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars is usually one of the more seasoned competitors. Of the 88 winners to date, only four Best Supporting Actor champs were in their 20s and just 15 were thirtysomething, including 2021 champ Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Messiah”). The 2024 winner, Robert Downey, Jr., was 58 when he picked up his prize for “Oppenheimer.” He joined 16 previous winners who were in their 50s when they took home the trophy. An original Y-wing filming miniature from 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope and Leia’s bikini from Return Of The Jedi are up for auction this month.

Paul Mescal is hoping for double the success this fall when two big movies he’s in come out at the same time. The actor from “Gladiator II” and the new “Wicked” movie thinks their November 22nd release date could lead to big profits like last year’s “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” movies. He’s even given them a fun nickname – “Glicked”!
You may remember how “Barbie” the movie and “Oppenheimer” about the inventor of the atomic bomb both did amazingly well last year even though they were total opposites. The silly Barbie film made $1.4 billion worldwide while the serious history one made almost $1 billion too. Mescal thinks his sword & sandals epic “Gladiator II” and the musical fantasy “Wicked” adapted from Broadway have the same chance.

Paul Mescal hopes the same-day release of Gladiator II and Wicked will be the sequel to Barbenheimer.
Last year, Barbie and Oppenheimer were released on the same day, becoming a box office phenomenon. The Greta Gerwig-directed film opened with $162M, and the Christopher Nolan film opened with $82.4M.
Mescal is manifesting that audiences will go to the box office later this year to see both films on the weekend starting Friday, November 22.
“Wickdiator doesn’t really roll off the tongue does it? I think my preference would probably be Glicked if it has a similar effect to what it did for Barbie and Oppenheimer,” Mescal said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Mescal continued, “It would be amazing ’cause I think the films couldn’t be more polar opposites and it worked in that context previously. So fingers crossed people come out and see both films on opening weekend.

Paramount has released its first trailer for ‘Gladiator II,’ the long-awaited sequel to the 2000 historical drama that took the world by storm, and it’s shaping up to have an all-star cast worthy of the legendary franchise (the original film is #36 on IMDb’s Top 250 Movies chart). Director Ridley Scott has assembled an impressive ensemble of veteran stars and rising talents to bring the next chapter of this ancient Roman saga to life. Who are the players? IMDb has broken down the trailer to give fans the scoop on the cast and characters.
Paul Mescal as Lucius
Leading the way is Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Lucilla, who we saw as a young boy shadowing the legendary gladiator Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) in the original film. Mescal gained popularity starring opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in the Hulu series “Normal People,” and since then the actor has quickly become one of Hollywood's hottest young stars. More recently, he costarred with Andrew Scott in ‘All of Us Strangers’ and gained an Oscar nomination for his role in ‘Aftersun.’ ‘Gladiator II’ is a huge opportunity for Mescal to cement himself as a leading man on the big screen.
Denzel Washington as Macrinus
Acting royalty Denzel Washington needs no introduction, and the two-time Oscar winner joins the cast as the Roman emperor Macrinus. A powerful ruler of the Roman Empire should be a juicy role for Washington to sink his teeth into, judging by the way he chews up the scenery in the trailer.
Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius
Pedro Pascal continues his meteoric rise with a key role as Marcus Acacius, a Roman general. Fresh off the massive success of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” Pascal will lend his leading man charisma and geek cred to this sword-and-sandal epic in a supporting role as the target of Mescal’s revenge.
Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta
Joseph Quinn is best known for his stint as Eddie Munson, the beloved metalhead from Season 4 of “Stranger Things.” That role earned him the top spot on IMDb’s STARmeter for three weeks straight in 2022. He’s currently the most popular cast member from ‘Gladiator II’ on IMDb, thanks to his current hit, ‘A Quiet Place: Day One,’ in which he costars with Lupita Nyong’o. In ‘Gladiator II,’ he'll play the villainous Emperor Geta in a role that will likely draw comparisons to Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the first ‘Gladiator.’
Connie Nielsen as Lucilla
Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucilla from the original ‘Gladiator,’ bringing gravitas and history to the sprawling story. Her regal presence should anchor the film's family dynamics. Fans may also recognize Nielsen from her role as Hippolyta in DC’s ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Wonder Woman 1984.’
Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla
Fred Hechinger, the talented young actor who had key roles in Season 1 of “The White Lotus” and in Netflix’s ‘Fear Street’ trilogy and recently starred in the indie comedy ‘Thelma,’ takes a very different turn here as the insane Emperor Caracalla. From his wild performance seen in the trailer, Hechinger will get to demonstrate his range as an antagonist.
With an ensemble blending decorated veterans like Washington and Pascal with hot new stars like Mescal and Quinn, ‘Gladiator II’ has a cast befitting its huge ambitions to revive one of cinema's most acclaimed franchises. Fans can look forward to this impressive line-up of talent facing off in the Colosseum when the film hits theaters in November 2024.
