- Met his ex-wife, Marge Champion, at the Disney animation studio, where her father, Ernest Belcher, was also working.
- Created Goofy and Geppetto in Pinocchio (1940), but his involvement with the Disney cartoonists' strike of 1941 started a feud that ended up with his almost complete expunging from any official studio history.
- Daughter Michele Babbitt born 1951 (Annemarie Dinah Gottlieb).
- Began his career in New York City working for Paul Terry's Terrytoons Studio. With Disney from the early 30's, he animated the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the dance of the mushrooms for "Fantasia". Credited with creating the character of Goofy. Became one of Disney's highest paid animators. Babbit also worked at one time or another for Warner Brothers (Looney tunes), UPA and Hanna-Barbera.

- He had one stepdaughter, Laurel Lee James; the biological daughter of Barbara Perry, with whom he was married from 1967 until his death in 1992.
