Courtney Love surprised attendees at the Royal Geographical Society in London by singing a cover of the Bob Dylan classic “Like a Rolling Stone.”
The Hole singer was at the venue on Tuesday (March 4th) to host a conversation with actor-writer Todd Almond to discuss his new book Slow Train Coming: Bob Dylan’s Girl From the North Country and Broadway’s Rebirth. Following the talk, the pair were joined by an acoustic guitarist as they got up to sing “Like a Rolling Stone,” with Love on lead vocals and Almond backing her up.
The performance came 59 years after Dylan sang the song at his famous 1966 concert at Royal Albert Hall, which is right next door to the Royal Geographical Society. It also came roughly a year after Love joined Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong for a few Cheap Trick and Tom Petty covers in London.

In May 1966, Bob Dylan famously sang “Like a Rolling Stone” at the Royal Albert Hall. Nearly 60 years later, Courtney Love performed the classic right next door.
On Tuesday, Love was at London’s Royal Geographical Society in conversation with actor-writer Todd Almond, celebrating the release of his new oral history Slow Train Coming: Bob Dylan’s ‘Girl From the North Country’ and Broadway’s Rebirth (Almond starred in the Dylan musical, and casted Love in her 2015 opera debut, Kansas City Choir Boy).

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has given a shot in the arm to the Bay Area baseball scene by joining the ownership group of the Oakland Ballers, an independent minor league team in the Pioneer League.
With the A’s temporarily playing in Sacramento for this upcoming season ahead of a move to Las Vegas, the Ballers are now the only professional baseball team in the East Bay. Armstrong’s buy-in is part of the second community investment round that opened on Tuesday, which is intended to raise $2 million, according to The Athletic. Another celebrity who bought a stake is legendary Oakland rapper Too $hort.

“This is all about bringing families to a ball game,” Armstrong said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “After the A’s left, the town was heartbroken. The Ballers are going to bring good vibes back to Oakland and the broader East Bay.

Over a 35-year musical career, Billie Joe Armstrong has often walked the empty street, but has he ever run the loaded bases?
The Green Day icon is joining the ownership group of the Oakland Ballers, the new (and as of this coming season) only professional baseball team in Northern California’s East Bay. Armstrong and legendary Oakland rapper Too $hort are climbing aboard the independent Pioneer League team ahead of the 2025 campaign, giving a celebrity boost to a club that in its first season already attracted plenty of grassroots interest.
“This is all about bringing families to a ball game,” Armstrong said in an email to The Hollywood Reporter. “After the A’s left, the town was heartbroken. The Ballers are going to bring good vibes back to Oakland and the broader East Bay.”

While kicking off the Australian leg of their “Saviors Tour” over the weekend, Green Day took their latest swipe at the Trump administration by altering the lyrics of “Jesus of Suburbia” to mock Vice President Jd Vance.
While performing at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Saturday, March 1st, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong switched the lyrics from “Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?” to “Am I retarded or am I just Jd Vance?” Watch a fan-shot video below.

The lyric change came shortly after Armstrong once again asserted he’s “not a part of the Maga agenda” while singing “American Idiot.” He also gave a brief speech saying, “Don’t you want Elon Musk to shut the fuck up? Don’t you want Donald Trump to shut the fuck up?”

Green Day kicked off the Australian leg of their Saviors world tour over the weekend, one day after the infamous Oval Office blowup involving President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The show featured a complete performance of their politically-charged 2004 rock opera, American Idiot, giving them an opportunity to blast Trump, Vance, and Elon Musk.
“Don’t want politicians to shut the fuck up?” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong asked the crowd during “American Idiot.” “Don’t you want Elon Musk to shut the fuck up?...

Sometimes, it’s not so much our own experiences but those of the people closest to us that inform our opinions of certain films. I was moved enough by Barry Avrich’s “Born Hungry” (2024) on its own merits, but as I watched the story of Sash Simpson, the former homeless street child from Chennai turned internationally renowned Toronto chef, I also realized I was also watching the story of some of my closest friends and family as well. Despite the documentary’s undeniable flaws, I could not help but be moved by it. How other viewers respond, however, may be similarly dependent on how well they themselves identify with the life story unfolding onscreen.
The documentary begins on the eve of the grand opening of Sash Simpson’s eponymous restaurant on Toronto’s Yonge Street. Most of his life has been spent in Canada, where from the age of seven...

A team up between The Office stars and Green Day was not on my 2025 Bingo card, but I'm intrigued. The punk rock band known for hits like “Basket Case,” “American Idiot,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” are working with two alums of NBC's most popular comedy show on an unexpected new movie. While the film has been described as a comedy, it is not related to the recently released and poorly received Australian version of the long-running show about printer and paper sales. The new film sounds much more exciting.
According to Variety, Live Nation Productions is partnering with Green Day to create a comedy film inspired by the band's crazy early days on the road, and is set to star The Office's Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. Live Nation Productions is currently working on a comedy movie inspired by Green Day. More on New Year’s Rev below.
American Idiot, Green Day’s smash hit from 2004, is still one of the biggest tunes of the noughties. Given the band’s status, it’s slightly surprising that there hasn’t been a biopic about them yet – after all, Hollywood loves the genre. Live Nation Productions, meanwhile, is planning something a little different for the Californian rock outfit.
Instead of a traditional biopic, the studio is making a comedy movie “inspired by” the band, as reported by Variety. Titled New Years Rev, the film will follow three friends on a journey to Los Angeles where they presume they’re opening for Green Day. They’re not, which is where the comedy kicks in, I believe.

A new movie produced by Live Nation Productions and starring two alums from The Officewill feature a plot inspired by alternative rock/punk powerhouse Green Day. Per Variety, the film, titled New Years Rev, is a comedic coming-of-age story of three friends who travel to Los Angeles and believe (mistakenly) that their band is opening for the legendary Green Day on New Year’s Eve (so no worries about waking up Billie Joe Armstrong before September ends).
The three friends who think they are opening for Green Day, which consists of Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool will be played by Mason Thames (who also stars in the upcoming live-action How to Train Your Dragon), Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust. It will also star Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played Pam Halpert (nee Beesly) and Angela Martin respectively duringThe Office’sentire run from 2005 to 2013. Welcome to paradise, Green Day fans. The punk icons are producing a comedy movie inspired by their time living in a tour van during their early days as a rock trio.
The film is called “New Years Rev,” it’s a comedy written and directed by Lee Kirk (“Ordinary World”), and it is already in production in Oklahoma. Let’s hope this movie about the early days of a musical icon is more successful than the scrapped one based on Pharrell Williams’ childhood.

Nearly 30 of the biggest stars of the past half-century came together on Jan. 30 to deliver a five-and-a-half-hour love letter to Los Angeles, offering the city a much-needed musical catharsis following this month’s devastating, destructive wildfires.
The FireAid show was a huge undertaking: With so many artists eager to take part, organizers split them into two simultaneous events, at the famed Kia Forum and the newer Intuit Dome one mile down the street. Fittingly, most of the classic rock acts played the Forum, while the more contemporary pop stars played the newer venue.

Green Day have long been vocal about their opposition to Donald Trump. Now, the group has turned their ire on president whisperer Elon Musk at a concert in his native country of South Africa.
While performing at Johannesburg’s Fnb Stadium on Sunday (January 19th), frontman Billie Joe Armstrong once again altered the lyrics to “American Idiot.” This time, he sang: “I’m not a part of an Elon agenda.” Watch a fan-shot video below.
As the largest political donor in the 2024 presidential election, Musk strongly supported Trump’s return to the White House. He has been rewarded for his efforts by heading a temporary organization called the Department of Government Efficiency.
With such an outsized influence on the new Trump administration, it’s no surprise Green Day would recall a 2023 performance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in which Armstrong sang, “I’m not a part of the Maga agenda.

With such an outsized influence on the new Trump administration, it’s no surprise Green Day would recall a 2023 performance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in which Armstrong sang, “I’m not a part of the Maga agenda.

Sometimes, the best albums to come out of the music industry are ones that never actually come out. The list of the greatest albums of all time is vast and ever-growing, but sometimes, it's unreleased albums that carry just as much of an enduring legacy. Missed opportunities, after all, come with the magic of promise and none of the distracting drawbacks that come with release.
The tales behind unreleased albums and why they were never released are often mythical. Why the albums never released often comes down to a simple set of reasons: internal conflicts between studios and creators, perfectionism of said creators, or just a pivot in creative direction. In some cases, finished tracks are released that offer a hint of what could have been, and feed into why music fans still clamor to hear these albums.

Sylvester Stallone was one of the biggest movie stars of the 1980s and had many acclaimed roles in action hits, franchise sequels, and underrated thrillers. While this was a decade defined by Stallone's feud with Arnold Schwarzenegger, these two icons pushed each other forward to star in increasingly outrageous cult favorites throughout this incredible decade in filmmaking. During this time, Stallone often one-upped the stakes of his long-standing rival by branching out into comedies, neo-noirs, and continuing to make his own work as a writer, director, and star of some of the biggest hits of this era.
Many of the best Stallone movies were released during the 1980s, as this was a prime time for the popularity of his characters like Rocky Balboa and John Rambo. Stallone had plenty of underrated movies during this time that, only with the power of hindsight, have come to be regarded as cult classics and misunderstood fan favorites.

Jesse Malin has released the new single “Argentina,” written while the singer-songwriter was rehabbing from his spinal stroke in Buenos Aires. Additionally, actor-comedian Fred Armisen, filmmaker/musician Jim Jarmusch, Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz, and more have been added to one of Malin’s upcoming benefit concerts at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Malin, a staple of the NYC punk scene over the past three decades as a solo artist and as frontman of D Generation, was paralyzed from the waist down when he suffered the spinal stroke at a restaurant in May of 2023.
He has since started walking with the aid of a walker, but still has a long way to go in his recovery. He returned to perform last month on CBS Saturday Morning, where he gave “Argentina” its live debut. Now, he has released the official studio version.

Billie Joe Armstrong knows his enemy — and it’s Las Vegas. Earlier this month, while performing in San Francisco, the Green Day frontman aired out his frustration with MLB team owner John Fisher, who made the call to move the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas. His rant included, among other things, the straightforward declaration: “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst shithole in America.”
Las Vegas can’t claim to be the biggest Green Day fan either, or at least not if two local radio stations there have anything to do with it.

Green Day‘s music has been banned from two Las Vegas radio stations after Billie Joe Armstrong called the city “the worst shithole in America.”
Armstrong’s comments stemmed from his beloved Oakland Athletics’ upcoming move to the Sin City. Like many, Armstrong is incensed about his hometown MLB team’s unceremonious relocation to Las Vegas and owner John Fisher’s apparent disregard for the team’s deeply loyal fanbase. The A’s just played their final game at the Oakland Coliseum this past Thursday (September 26th) in front of a sell-out crowd, ending a 57-year run in the Bay Area despite fans’ ongoing pleas for Fisher to “Sell the Team.”
Armstrong put in his two cents on the matter during Green Day’s concert at Oracle Park in San Francisco on September 20th.
“We don’t take shit from people like fucking John Fisher,” Armstrong said on stage, [via Kron 4] before adding: “I hate Las Vegas.
