The name Van Vlahakis might not be well known, but his is the immigrant success story that perhaps we don't hear of often enough. The Greece native landed in America with only $22 dollars to his name and wound up founding Earth Friendly Products, a multi-million dollar company. Now, perhaps completing the circle of the American dream, his tale has now inspired the biopic, "A Green Story." Ed O’Ross, Annabella Sciorra, Shannon Elizabeth, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane, Louis Mandylor and Debbie Matenopoulos are among the ensemble cast in writer/director Nick Agiashvili's film which premiered last year at the L.A. Greek Film Festival. Today, we have an exclusive clip to share with you. In this clip we see a young Van, played by George Finn ("Lol") sharing some time with his first love (Alessandra Torresani of "Caprica" fame) before some news from Greece arrive under his door. "A Green Story...

The American immigrant experience is certainly compelling material for filmmakers, with centuries of rich tradition and robust narrative. Not that you'd know this after watching Nick Agiashvili's A Green Story, which comes across like the result of a not particularly inspired Mad Lib: "Penniless yet ambitious [Greek] immigrant comes to America, clawing his way up from [homelessness] to start a company making [eco-friendly cleaning products], his obsession costs him his [first marriage] but ultimately leads to [financial success] before running afoul of [Big Soap] and dealing with a far more personal crisis: [terminal cancer]." Even worse, this formulaic narrative is based on a true story. After witnessing the horrors of World War II on his native Crete, Eftichios Vlahakis (Ed O'...

Let's take a look at some recent casting news, shall we? It looks like Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) will be joining Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike) in The Dallas Buyer's Club, a drama about the AIDS epidemic directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y.). Ron Perlman (Hellboy) will join Savage Mutts, a criminal action thriller written and directed by Nika Agiashvili (Tbilisi, My City). Word has it that Jack Black and director Richard Linklater, who previously collaborated on School of Rock and the 2012 indie Bernie, will reunite for a bowling movie that may have been inspired by colorful Pba champion, Pete Weber. Finally, the ensemble cast of August: Osage County has added Julianne Nicholson (Kinsey) as well. The film currently stars Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Ewan McGregor and Dermot Mulroney. Hit the jump for more on each casting note. THR reports that Bernal is in talks to star alongside McConaughey in The Dallas Buyer's Club.

Here's a few pieces of casting news that have popped up that I thought some of you might want to know about!
Hellboy star Ron Perlman has joined an action crime thriller called Savage Mutts. He will play a character named Terry “Shotgun” Coburn, "who after he is released from maximum security prison sets out on a path of revenge and rampage through the criminal underworld, as he seeks out a final confrontation with his brother - a dark and powerful crime boss." The project has been described as being in the same vein of Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I don't know about you but I'm up for seeing Perlman kick some ass! The film was written and directed by Nika Agiashvili.
Spider-Man 3 co-star Topher Grace has joined Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan in a love story called A Many Splintered Thing. The film...
