Exclusive: Michael Vartan (Bates Motel, Alias) will star in indie drama Punch It, the next film from director Nika Agiashvili (The Harsh Life Of Veronica Lambert, A Green Story). He’ll play an ex-boxer-turned-loan shark who gets involved with a local mobster in the Storyman Pictures production, which shoots in Los Angeles this fall.

The Georgia-born Agiashvili will direct from his own script. The helmer next unveils a segment in omnibus feature Tbilisi, I Love You, the latest in the “Cities Of Love” film series launched by 2006’s Paris, Je’Taime. Exclusive: Feelgood Entertainment has acquired Greek theatrical rights to Paramyth Films’ A Green Story. Indican Pictures holds all remaining worldwide rights.

A Green Story premiered a year ago at the La Greek Film Festival, whose 2013 edition kicks off on Thursday [6].

The distributor has set a Jul 18 release for the film written and directed by Nika Agiashvili and starring Ed O’Ross, Shannon Elizabeth and Annabella Sciorra.

George Finn, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane, Alexis Georgoulis and Louis Mandylor also star in the story of Van Vlahakis, the Greek immigrant who arrived in America with $22 in his pocket and founded the multi-million dollar Earth Friendly Products.

Agiashvili also produced alongside John Edward Lee, Dimitri Birbilis, Deanna Plascencia and Chadwick Struck. Paramyth Film’s David Agiashvili served as executive producer. The film will premiere in Athens on Jul 15.

Let's take a look at some recent casting news, shall we? It looks like Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) will be joining Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike) in The Dallas Buyer's Club, a drama about the AIDS epidemic directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y.). Ron Perlman (Hellboy) will join Savage Mutts, a criminal action thriller written and directed by Nika Agiashvili (Tbilisi, My City). Word has it that Jack Black and director Richard Linklater, who previously collaborated on School of Rock and the 2012 indie Bernie, will reunite for a bowling movie that may have been inspired by colorful Pba champion, Pete Weber. Finally, the ensemble cast of August: Osage County has added Julianne Nicholson (Kinsey) as well.  The film currently stars Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Ewan McGregor and Dermot Mulroney. The project has been described as being in the same vein of Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I don't know about you but I'm up for seeing Perlman kick some ass! The film was written and directed by Nika Agiashvili.

Scheduled to begin production in Los Angeles in January, Savage Mutts centers on Terry "Shotgun" Coburn (Perlman), who after he is released from maximum security prison sets out on a path of revenge and rampage through the criminal underworld, as he seeks out a final confrontation with his brother - a dark and powerful crime boss. Indican Pictures announced today that it has acquired exclusive North American rights to the Van Vlahakis biopic, A Green Story. Indican plans to release the film theatrically in April, 2013. Through the deal, Indican also holds all video, television, ancillary and VOD rights in North America.

From Paramyth Films, A Green Story stars Ed O.Ross, Shannon Elizabeth, Annabella Sciorra, George Finn, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane and chronicles the life of Van Vlahakis, a Greek immigrant who arrived in America with only $22 in his pocket and eventually founded the multi-million dollar Green company, Earth Friendly Products.

The movie was written and directed by Paramyth.s Nika Agiashvili and filmed in Los Angeles, Chicago and on location in Greece. Agiashvili produced alongside John Edward Lee, Dimitri Birbilis, Deanna Plascencia and Chadwick Struck. Paramyth.s David Agiashvili served as executive producer.

Lots of casting news to catch up on, so here it is in brief: Steve Coogan (Tropic Thunder) has been cast to voice a character in Despicable Me 2, starring Steve Carell and Al Pacino. Malcolm McDowell (The Artist) will star in a vignette of Tbilisi, My City. Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare on Elm Street) is a recent addition to Beautiful Creatures, the adaptation of the Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl novel. Abigail Spencer (Mad Men) will join the indie drama Kilimanjaro, starring Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker). While Shannon Elizabeth was back on the big screen last weekend in "American Reunion," reprising the role of Nadia that made her famous, an entirely different side of the actress will be on display in the upcoming biopic "A Green Story."

Joining Elizabeth are Ed O’Ross, Annabella Sciorra, George Finn, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane, Louis Mandylor, Debbie Matenopoulos and Alessandra Toressani in the film that tells the true story Van Vlahakis, a Greek immigrant who arrived in America with only $22 in his pocket and eventually founded the multi-million dollar green company, Earth Friendly Products. The trailer for the film which is unveiled below provides an interesting mix of true-life biopic and the quest for the American Dream. The film was shot on location in both Los Angeles and Greece, and certainly provides a bit of a different story to what is currently in the news about the state of Greek economy and politics.
