DC Comics is releasing a holiday special called "Twas the 'Mite Before Christmas" featuring several DC characters and creators. The anthology will include eight classic holiday stories, showcasing characters like Batman, Constantine, Harley Quinn, and Lex Luthor. Bat-Mite, a fifth-dimensional imp and Batman's biggest fan, will be the host of the holiday special, providing comedic commentary on the state of comic books and guaranteed laughs.

Gotham Knights co-creator Natalie Abrams didn’t want to leave without saying goodbye.

On the night of the drama’s series finale on the CW, Abrams — who created the DC Comics-based drama with Chad Fiveash and James Patrick Stoteraux — posted a heartfelt message Tuesday for her beloved “BatBrats” who were about to see their show end after one season.

The series from DC, Warner Bros. TV and Greg Berlanti Prods. was a respectable ratings performer but was canceled to make way for the network’s new (see: cheaper) business model.

“Gotham Knights is coming to an end,” Abrams said on Twitter. “It’s taken a while to accept this fact, to grieve the loss of something so unique and ethereal as this first project. From the moment I pitched Greg Berlanti the two sentences that would become this oddball underdog of a show, it no longer belonged to me.

It’s curtains for “Gotham Knights” at The CW. The network will not move forward with a second season of the DC series, Variety has learned.

The series was absent from a statement of upcoming programming from the CW, which announced renewals of both “Superman & Lois” and “All American: Homecoming” for the 2023-2024 broadcast season.

The news about the future of “Gotham Knights” comes more than two weeks ahead of the date that the series is slated to air what would now be its series finale. The program premiered on March 4 and was set to conclude its 13-episode first season on June 27.

From Warner Bros. Television, “Gotham Knights” follows Bruce Wayne’s rebellious adopted son, who forms a team with the children of Batman’s enemies. Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams co-created the series and served as executive producers alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden of Berlanti Productions.

“Gotham Knights” will not be returning to The CW.

After just one season, the finale of which airs June 27, the DC series cancellation news comes alongside renewal announcements for “All American: Homecoming” and “Superman & Lois.”

Focusing on Batman’s adopted son after the Dark Knight’s death, the show shares a premise with a video game dropped last year, though the two are unrelated. The heroes of Gotham attempt to maintain justice after the Caped Crusader’s untimely demise.

Striking writers are expressing confusion over shifting WGA policies on promoting their projects on social media after the guild clarified that writers may publicize their series or movies on their personal social media platforms while avoiding studio-organized media opportunities.

“[The WGA] reconsidered and it’s Ok to post about our shows or movies on social media,” WGA member and “I’m a Virgo” writer Boots Riley tweeted. “From leadership: ‘So the rule is, don’t do promotion at their request, don’t attend premieres, don’t do the FYCs, but you can still talk about your project in your own social media.'”

Riley added that WGA said via Zoom that writers may not participate in interviews that the studio sets up, but are allowed to partake in media opportunities if they’re “set up” by the writer, themselves or the writer’s publicist.

Minutes after the Writers Guild of America declared it was on strike, members lit up social media with vows to stay strong as they prepare to hit the picket lines on Tuesday.

News of the strike, which takes effect later this evening, came late Monday after the guild’s negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach an agreement on a new film and scripted TV contract. It’s the WGA’s first strike since the 100-day walkout of 2007-08.

Reaction on Twitter was swift. “Here we go,” wrote David Simon. “See you all on the pavement, my brothers and sisters.” He followed it with the hashtag #WGAstrong.

Some expressed fear but that was quickly replaced by resolve, as scribes encouraged fellow members to ignore the spin “that’s already coming out.”

Having spent this Thursday morning veritably clearing its shelves (by way of six cancellations, so far!), The CW has ordered to series the prequel spinoffs for Supernatural and Walker, as well as the DC comics-inspired Gotham Knights.

Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters promised to deliver “the epic, untold love story” of how Sam and Dean’s parents, John (played by The In Between‘s Drake Rodger) and Mary (American Housewife‘s Meg Donnelly), first met, “and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.

The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.

All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.

In a move that should come as no surprise, The CW has picked up shows from “Supernatural” alums Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, in executive producer roles, and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti.

For those who’ve been waiting to hear, “The Winchesters” (Ackles), “Walker” prequel “Walker: Independence” (Padalecki) and “Gotham Knights” are moving forward as series for the 2022-2023 broadcast season.

Here’s a logline for “The Winchesters”: “Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Ackles), ‘The Winchesters’ is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

Executive producers on the show are Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles (via Chaos Machine and Wbtv deal). The show is produced by Chaos Machine Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios.

The stars and creators behind CW’s Batwoman shared praises and fond memories about their time on the series, which on Friday was canceled after three seasons.

Showrunner Caroline Dries revealed the cancellation on Twitter. Since then, Javicia Leslie, Camrus Johnson, Natalie Abrams and more have reacted to the news on social media.
