Although Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill have found a lot of success in their respective careers, their 2012 collaboration The Cold Light of Day became one of the worst rated movies of both their expansive resumes. However, that has not stopped the 14-year-old movie from discovering a new audience on FreeVee
Many action movies have not exactly been darlings of the critics, as endless explosions, beatings, and clichd dialogue leave many believing they are not worthy of their time or praise. However, audiences are drawn to this kind of rinse-and-repeat template used in many action films, whether on the big screen with an all-star cast or in cheap VOD offerings. With a story of a dangerous conspiracy, a kidnapped family, shoot-outs, car chases and a tough-guy Bruce Willis performance, that is exactly the crowd that has now discovered The Cold Light of Day more than a decade since it faded from view.

Warner is opening ’The Way Back’ starring Ben Affleck in Germany.
As cinemas begin to reopen again in many territories, Screen is tracking which films are being released in key territories each week.
UK and Ireland, opening Friday July 24
Without major studio tentpoles driving audiences to cinemas, takings in the UK and Ireland remain low compared to pre-lockdown and were up just 1.8% last weekend despite a 27% increase in reopened sites.
But a raft of independent features and the re-release of a fantasy blockbuster may translate into a stronger weekend, as exhibitors hope to see audience confidence grow in returning to cinemas.

Few actors can boast a career quite like Malcolm McDowell, and he’s still working, prolifically, in the present day. His latest is the Anglo-American gangster flick The Big Ugly, written and director by Scott Wiper. We had the immense pleasure of speaking to them both, on seperate occasions, to discuss this collaboration.
“I’m only involved because of Vinnie,” McDowell said of co-star Vinnie Jones, when as asked what attracted him to this project. “I love Vinnie. He’s a great guy. I knew him a bit because of golf, and he came up to play in my tournament, and he’s such a fun character and I’ve always liked his work and I know that he’s the cockney heavy, the gangster, but when he explained to me that this was his chance to do something more interesting and not just be the heavy, I brought into...

Writer-director Scott Wiper’s The Big Ugly is the best kind of genre film, a crime movie aware of the traditions in which it’s working but not beholden to them; combining elements of ’40s and ’50s crime fiction (Jim Thompson seems to be a particular touchstone) with the flavor of ’70s Sam Peckinpah and Walter Hill filtered through the visual grammar of ’90s Tony Scott, The Big Ugly synthesizes its influences into a unique and compelling western noir. "I'm not leaving 'till I find her." Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for a crime thriller titled The Big Ugly, the latest from American filmmaker Scott Wiper. This revenge film is about a career criminal named Neeyln, who travels to West Virginia from London alongside his boss in order to strike a deal with an American oilman. But once the initial joy subsides, Neeyln is upset to discover that his girlfriend has mysteriously vanished. When he tries to figure out what happened to her, "it become clear that the people he originally thought were his business associates might have more to hide than originally believed." The film stars Vinnie Jones, Ron Perlman, Malcolm McDowell, Nicholas Braun, and Leven Rambin. Looks solid - more of an intense character study than just an action thriller. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Scott Wiper's The Big Ugly, direct from Vertical's...

The National Geographic Channel have announced that they have scrapped plans for a scripted TV series based on the 2012 action film "Act of Valor".
In a statement, the network says: "Ngc is unfortunately not moving forward with Act of Valor in favor of other scripted projects we have under consideration that will be announced soon." First announced over a year ago, the series was to be produced by both Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers.
However, there was no formal agreement in place and reportedly creative differences quickly arose between the pair about how the show should be made. As no deal with the Bandito Brothers was reached, the project is now done and dusted.
The original film teamed a group of real-life active-duty Navy Seals with various actors in the story of an attempted rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative, and was said to be based on an actual Navy Seal mission.

The National Geographic Channel announced today it is no longer moving forward with a scripted TV series based on the 2012 action film Act of Valor. Here's what the network had to say in a brief statement.
"Ngc is unfortunately not moving forward with Act of Valor in favor of other scripted projects we have under consideration that will be announced soon."
The series was first announced in September 2012, when Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers production company revealed they were developing the movie for the small screen. National Geographic Channel gave the series a green light in October, although creative differences reportedly arose between Relativity and the Bandito Brothers.
The network had a formalized deal in place with Relativity, but the studio had no formal agreement with the Bandito Brothers. In the months that followed, the network, studio and production company all had differing ideas of how the show should be crafted.

Last year, directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh teamed with Relativity Media for "Act of Valor," which featured real Us Navy Seals going out on a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent. One of my favorite movies from last year Act Of Valor is getting a sequel. Made on a budget of $12 million, and acquired for $13 million, the film went on to not only open at number one back in February of 2012, but also gross $70 million domestically at the box office. Relativity Media is moving forward with a sequel to the Bandito Brothers’ breakout hit action thriller tentatively titled Act of Valor 2.
According to Deadline, Relativity has acquired the worldwide rights to finance, produce and distribute Act of Valor 2. Relativity Media and the Bandito Brothers are teaming up again for a sequel to the 2012 hit Act of Valor. Scott Wiper (The Condemned, The Marine 3: Homefront) has signed on to write and direct the follow-up, which will focus on a unit of S.W.A.T. officers. No further story details were released.
The first Act of Valor starred active-duty Navy S.E.A.L. members in a fictionalized account of a real operation. It isn't known if the plan is to bring in actual S.W.A.T. team members to star in this follow-up, but given the success of the original movie, that will likely be the case. Directed by two of the eight Bandito Brothers partners Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh (Need for Speed), Act of Valor took in $81 million worldwide from just a $12 million production budget.

Relativity and Bandito Brothers are switching the focus of their "Act of Valor" franchise for the upcoming sequel at Relativity.
The first film, which followed real life active-duty U.S. Navy Seals along with several actors, opened early last year and made a quite tidy $70 million from a $12 million budget.
The next film in the R-rated action series will this time follow a group of elite Swat officers.
Scott Wiper ("The Condemned") is attached to write and direct the project which Bandito Brothers will produce.
Relativity's plans for a scripted drama series based on the first film is still in development.

A sequel to last year’s Navy Seal actioner Act of Valor is moving forward at Relativity Media. Deadline reports that Relativity and the Bandito Brothers are once again teaming up for Act of Valor 2, which will focus on a team of elite Swat officers. Directed by Bandito Brothers partners Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh, Act of Valor took a realistic approach to the military action genre, as the film cast active duty SEALs to portray the film’s characters. The result was a Call of Duty-esque feature that played more like a recruitment ad than a compelling movie, but the pic went on to gross over $80 million at the box office against a budget of just $12 million. The first “Act of Valor” movie in 2012 made a cool $81 million worldwide, from a $12 million budget that the producers/directors of the film, the awesomely named Bandito Brothers (Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh), raised themselves. The film was notable for its gritty, realistic portrait of Navy SEALs and how they work, play, and, well, kill. Why was it so realistic? Because the main cast were made up entirely of real, active duty Navy SEALs, which was why the film took years to make, since the “actors” kept having to, well, go to work saving the world. And it also explains the film’s, at times, stilted acting. There’s no word if the sequel to “Act of Valor” will feature similar authenticity, but we do know that the topic will now be Swat cops instead of Navy SEALs. Also, Scott Wiper has been attached by Relativity and the producers to write and direct the film.

The Cold Light Of Day
Stars: Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis, Verónica Echegui, Sigourney Weaver, Joseph Mawle, Caroline Goodall| Written by Scott Wiper, John Petro | Directed by Mabrouk El Mechri
With action films it seems that sometimes the story writers feel they don’t have to really try. They seem to think that if they can get some recognisable stars that can put in a charismatic performance then it’s a safe bet that they will have a hit. Sometimes this can pay off, if the action scenes are big enough and the viewers are mesmerised into enjoying the big explosions and gun battles taking place in front of them, they won’t notice that they’ve seen the story many times before. This is the problem with The Cold Light of Day.
Will is on holiday with his family in Spain, but his thoughts are back home where he is being threatened with bankruptcy.

Well what do you know? It's yet another Bourne imitation, this time starring the new Superman, Henry Cavill, with a little Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver thrown in for good measure. Cavill plays a Wall Street trader whose family is kidnapped while they are on vacation in Spain. It turns out his dad (played by Bruce Willis) is not the mild-mannered business consultant that he claims to be... he is actually a C.I.A. agent! Crazy, I know. Now Cavill must learn the family business if they are going to get out of the situation alive. The movie is directed by Mabrouk El Mechri, and while you might not recognize the name, you've probably at least heard of his last film, Jcvd... starring Jcvd. This is his Hollywood debut, but unfortunately it looks a little too generic for my tastes (the script was co-written by Scott Wiper, who previously...

Summit Entertainment’s The Cold Light of Day reads as being just another average entry in the mystery-thriller genre – with a slight Hitchockian twist, involving a vacationing young man’s family falling into danger due to the secret history of his otherwise seemingly-benign father.
That is, at least, before you learn that the film features Immortals star and the new Superman in Man of Steel (Henry Cavill), along with longtime fan-favorite acting veterans such as Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver – as the movie’s shrewd anti-hero and calculating villainess, respectively. In that regard, The Cold Light of Day suddenly becomes a film worth your attention.
