Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will live up to its genial title. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum confirmed plans to release yearly seasons of the well-received wall-crawler animated series, starting with a sophomore installment.
Ahead of the Daredevil: Born Again premiere event, Winderbaum commented, per Collider:
"We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it," Winderbaum told Collider ahead of Daredevil: Born Again premiere. "What usually happens, as you know, in animation, is that there's a bigger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 than in subsequent seasons, and that'll be similar in Friendly. We will have to wait a little bit more than a year for Season 2, but then after that, it should come out on an annual cadence, hopefully."

The following contains spoilers for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1, now streaming on Disney+.
Marc Webb'sThe Amazing Spider-Man movies weren't bad, but they did try to pack in too much in a short timeframe. They adapted the death of Gwen Stacy, used villains like Harry Osborn's Goblin, Electro, Lizard and Rhino, but everything felt rushed and hazy. That's most evident by the second Sony movie by trying to pack in Richard and Mary Parker's demise.
While exploring Peter Parker's relationship with his parents would've made for a compelling origin story, unfortunately, this underdeveloped storyline made the movie more convoluted. More specifically, Webb didn't know where to take that story. Clearly, Sony needed more films to detail the journey fully, only for that series to get cancelled. Josh Keaton first lent his voice to Peter Parker in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and he's since reprised the role in several video games (his animated Spidey also made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).
In recent years, Keaton has taken on the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in What If...? and X-Men '97. Hudson Thames, meanwhile, plays the titular wall-crawler in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
In today's season finale - you can read our full recap here - May Parker visits someone in prison who we soon learn is Peter's father, Richard Parker (the late Uncle Ben's younger brother).
This is a major departure from the comics where Richard and Mary were killed in a plane crash when Peter was still an infant. Why he's behind bars will likely be addressed in season 2; the question is, does Spidey know that this is what's become of...

This article contains spoilers for "Invincible."
"Invincible" has returned for its third season on Prime Video, releasing concurrently with the debut season of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" on Disney+. With this new rival, does "Invincible" retain its title as "probably the best superhero series in the universe"? I'd say it does, and it comes down to how "Invincible" writes its lead character Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun).
It makes sense to compare these shows, because "Invincible," both the series and the original comic by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, is basically Spider-Man plus "Dragon Ball." (Viltrumites are more-or-less Saiyans. Omni-Man's look evokes Superman but his character arc is closer to Vegeta.)
Though Peter Parker doesn't have an alien warrior for a dad, he and Mark Grayson are quite similar people. Like Peter, Mark is a young man who gets superpowers but realizes being a superhero isn't as fun as...

Disney has provided characters with an array of personalities to fit the various narratives in its filmography. While some are there for the comedy value and others act as the villains, a few of them prove to be very wise characters. Even then, Disney has created the wisest characters with differences between them, allowing them to be distinctive in their own rights.
The characters with wisdom in abundance often guide the main protagonists. When the lead roles are at a loss or simply can't shut out the noise from other characters, the wise ones step in with a few words that can help the recipient remain grounded and see their goals a little clearer. With that said, here are the characters who have shown the most wisdom through the decades of Disney movies.

When we think of Mark Harmon, the image that instantly comes to our mind is his portrayal of the stoic and sharp-witted Leroy Jethro Gibs on NCIS. The cornerstone of one of television’s longest-running TV shows and most beloved crime drama, Harmon is best known for his effortless on-screen charm and nuanced portrayals.

Easily one of the most iconic Autobots in the Transformers franchise is Bumblebee, who's been around since the days of Generation 1. Now, a 2010s variant of the character is getting a new, more cartoon-accurate action figure.

Many think Chris Evans will return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday as Hydra's Captain America, but I think it would be better to see him bring a different version of Steve Rogers into live-action. After he debuted as Steve Rogers in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, we saw Chris Evans' superhero undergo huge transformations and become central to the MCU. His retirement from the role in 2019's Avengers Endgame was very emotional, but we recently saw Evans back in action in Deadpool & Wolverine, and he'll be returning again very soon.
Chris Evans has been cast alongside the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch and more in the Russo brothers' upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. This confirmation was soon followed by the reveal that Hayley Atwell would also be returning in the Phase 6 crossover movie, which has me very excited about the possibilities of reuniting Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.

There's a half-serious observation in the Batman fandom that the best Batman actors are the ones who feel like they could also pull off playing the Joker. Take Michael Keaton; you know him as Tim Burton's Batman, but if you want to see him as the Joker, just watch the first movie that Keaton and Burton made together before "Batman" -- namely, "Beetlejuice."
Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson also feel like Dark Knights who could be convincing as the Crown Prince of Crime. Heck, even the late Adam West showed he had some Joker energy in him with his recurring role as the twisted Mayor West on "Family Guy."
There's only one performer who has actually played both Batman and the Joker at the same time, though: voice actor Troy Baker, in the 2019 animated film "Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's Miles Morales, Shameik Moore, opened up about why he doesn't voice the film's variant of his character, Miles G. Morales/Prowler. This multiversal, Earth-42 version of Miles is voiced by Jharrel Jerome. He lives in an alternate reality where his father, Jeff, was killed instead of his uncle, Aaron, and he never became Spider-Man. Instead, this Miles became Prowler, working alongside his uncle Aaron. Moore's Miles finds himself stranded on Earth-42 after escaping from Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac).
During a panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2024, hosted by Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier, Moore explained why a different actor voices Earth-42 Miles after a fan asked whether Moore did. While there are a lot of Disney characters who easily stand out on their own, there are some iconic Disney duos that show how much fun a pair can be. Disney has always loved exploring friendship in their animated movies and they have done so successfully since the beginning of their run. However, even in their long history, some Disney duos rise above the rest and showcase those truly special pairings that have delivered laughs, heartbreak, and charm to audiences over the years.
Including all the Pixar movies alongside the animated Disney roster, there are a lot of notable pairs to choose from. There are some friends who clearly go back a long way, like Mike and Sully in Monsters Inc. Some start out with a lot of tension only to find common ground, like Moana and Maui. Disney villains can be a divisive topic of conversation. Obviously, the heroes are there for viewers to get on side with and support in whatever journey they're undertaking. However, particularly in more recent times, fans have become more inclined to see things from a villain's point of view, as well as enjoy what they're like.
A lot of villains behave unforgivably, but it's not what they do that can make them hard to hate; it's their personalities. J.K. Simmons remains the definitive J. Jonah Jameson, but even he was surprised by how Marvel reintroduced his character to the Spider-Man franchise.
Sitting down with GQ, Simmons looked back on some of his most beloved performances in film and television, including the bombastic Spider-Man-hating Daily Bugle owner across both the Sam Raimi and Marvel Cinematic Universe timelines. In the case of his second Jameson -- who made a surprise cameo at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home -- he revealed that "the movie was in the can. I don't even know whose idea it was. It was Amy [Pascal] or it was Jon [Watts], or if it was someone else. 'Hey, we could squeeze in a little J. Jonah Jameson here. I mean, why not get J.K. and see if he'll do it.'" The Emoji Movie, which Corden stars in alongside Maya Rudolph, T.J. Miller, and Anna Faris, is officially streaming on Netflix starting today. The film joins The Umbrella Academy Season 4 and Shahmaran as the only projects to premiere on Netflix today. The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

Different versions of Captain America have been played by four actors in Marvel Studios' live-action and animated projects. Chris Evans, Wyatt Russell, and Anthony Mackie have all portrayed Captain America in the McU's live-action storylines. Josh Keaton voices Captain America in Marvel Studios' animated media, including What If...? and X-Men '97.
Four brilliant actors have portrayed different iterations of Captain America in the live-action and animated storylines of the MCU. Captain America was one of Marvel Comics' original superheroes, with Steve Rogers being introduced as a World War II hero in 1940's Captain America Comics #1. Originally a frail and scrawny citizen, Steve Rogers became Captain America after being enhanced with an experimental super-soldier serum, enhancing all of his physical attributes to forge him into a peak human specimen. This storyline unfolded in Marvel Studios' Captain America: The First Avenger in Phase 1, bringing the star-spangled man-with-a-plan into the live-action MCU.

Fears of a future where artificial intelligence overpowers flesh-and-blood humans have always been a paramount tenet of sci-fi storytelling. And when these sentient robots closely resemble human behavior and exterior appearance (as in “Blade Runner” or “AI Artificial Intelligence”), then the conundrum of whether they should be granted human dignity rather than being seen as disposable presents itself. But the closer that such a hypothetical reality feels to our present — with generative AI threatening artistic creation, for example — the less likely it seems we will ever feel compassion for these entities.
French director Jérémie Périn’s cyberpunk mystery “Mars Express” manages to further complicate our sentiments with its dense yet satisfying world-building. A gripping, heady and refreshing 2D animated take on the perils of man and machine coexisting, Périn’s first feature as a director inserts the necessary exposition in a mostly natural manner so we incrementally become aware of how this reality functions.

Like so many cyberpunk movies before it, Jérémie Périn’s ultra-cool and dazzlingly animated “Mars Express” is sustained by the vertigo between the boundlessness of computer technology and the banality of what people do with it. What separates this accomplished French “Ghost in the Shell” homage from its most obvious touchstone — and from several other detective stories in which a police team of people and androids investigate what it means to be human — is the film’s determination to dismantle that dynamic.
Much less nakedly philosophical than anything Mamoru Oshii has ever made, “Mars Express” is nevertheless fascinated by the future that artificial intelligence might choose for itself if it were unshackled from the limits of our mortal imaginations (and from the anxieties that come along with them). Périn is humble enough to only half-guess at an answer, but his steadfast conviction that humans and robots could mutually inhibit the...

Guy Ritchie's live-action Hercules remake is still in the works, but facing delays and uncertainty due to various issues. Producers Joe and Anthony Russo confirm the project is moving forward, but they are still waiting on a script from Ritchie. The remake aims to honor the original with a modern spin, but Disney's track record with live-action remakes is mixed.
Guy Ritchie's live-action Hercules remake is reportedly still moving forward. The project will mark Ritchie's second live-action remake of a Disney animated classic - following his 2019 remake of Aladdin, which saw Will Smith replace Robin Williams as the iconic genie. News surrounding the upcoming Hercules movie has been silent for months, especially following the Hollywood strikes which halted almost all production towards the end of 2023. But the film's producers, Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame), have confirmed the movie is on the way. Just very slowly.

X-Men ’97 has had massive success among the Marvel fans. The animated series, which is a revival and continuation of the ’90s X-Men show, has generated immense hype. However, it has also attracted very strong criticism regarding the character of Rogue. The fans did not appreciate how the show pulled off some insane de-sexualization of the curvaceous figure of Rogue.

The following contains spoilers for X-Men '97 Season 1, Episode 7, "Bright Eyes," now streaming on Disney+.
Captain America seemingly won't be the only non-mutant superhero to appear in X-Men '97 Season 1. Series creator Beau DeMayo recently suggested that fans keep their eyes peeled for an appearance from Spider-Man in the remaining three episodes.
Responding to questions on X, DeMayo was asked by one fan if the popular webslinger would be appearing before the season concluded on May 15. Rather than giving an outright answer, DeMayo simply told the fan that he would "just have to wait" to see if Spider-Man appeared, strongly suggesting that the beloved superhero would indeed make a cameo. Spider-Man previously appeared in a non-speaking capacity during the X-Men: The Animated Series adaptation of "The Phoenix Saga." This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97."
I'm the precise age to have been introduced to the Marvel Universe by animation and film. Back then in the bygone 2000s, superhero movies never crossed over and the best that us wee fans could hope for was, say, the X-Men playing guest star on "Spider-Man" for an episode or two. I've now evolved into a curmudgeon who thinks superhero cinema could use more individuality and less interconnectivity, but I digress.
All this is to say that "X-Men '97" episode 7, "Bright Eyes," featured the sort of brief guest appearance that would've made 10-year-old me super-excited: Rogue meets Captain America (Josh Keaton). You might recall that Cap appeared back in the original "X-Men" cartoon; the season 5 episode, "Old Soldiers," showed him and Wolverine on a mission together in World War II. X-Men ’97: Captain America Returns ( Photo Credit – Disney+ Hotstar )
Every Marvel fan is currently busy binging on the X-Men ’97 series. The premise of the animated series picks up where the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series ends. The MCU series is created by Beau DeMayo. So far, seven episodes have dropped on Disney+ Hotstar. In the latest episode, ‘Bright Eyes’, the team has brought back Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.
In MCU movies, Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers, is probably dead after Avengers: Endgame. But seeing the Cap return in X-Men ’97 made the Marvel fans happy. However, not everyone is pleased with the way they treated him in the animated series. Fans are unhappy with how the makers showed Steve’s alignment towards the government when he stood against their wrongdoings in movies. It’s a scene between Rogue (voiced by Lenore Zann) and Cap (Josh Keaton) that has got the reactions.

There’s no doubt that Invincible, the superhero series from the mind of Robert Kirkman, borrows a lot from other beloved franchises in the same genre. The biggest similarity would be how Omni-Man resembles Superman in many ways and how the Guardians of the Globe are another version of the Justice League or the Avengers.
The popularity of the comics and animated series has brought it into the cultural spotlight, with Omni-Man even making an appearance on Fortnite as a playable character. Now, we have a mod that brings another character from the series to a game filled with sticky situations.

"It's always fun. Josh is great," the Invincible lead said, though he confessed, "I didn't get to work with him directly, but in my time working with Josh, it was so fun with him." What really made those interdimensional scenes work, Yeun added, was being able to "go with the fun that Robert's [Kirkman] having with this. I think it's such a cool thing to watch him get to reimagine aspects of this comic book that he's been with for so long.

Chloe Bennet's role as Riley in Invincible season 2 was a disappointment for fans expecting a bigger part. Riley is an original character with superpowers, not from the Invincible comics, leaving her future uncertain. Despite a small role in season 2, there is hope that Chloe Bennet may have a bigger role in the show's future.
Chloe Bennet's debut in Invincible season 2 finally came in the finale, but her role ultimately proved to be quite disappointing. Back before any of the new episodes were released on Prime Video, the show announced its star-studded voice cast for the second season. It included major new additions like Sterling K. Brown as Angstrom Levy or Peter Cullen as Thaedus, but it also revealed exciting castings like Josh Keaton, Tatiana Maslany, and Chloe Bennet. In every instance, audiences were eager to see who they would play and how big of a role they would have.

Invincible season 2 teased a Spider-Man cameo but went a different route, disappointing some fans. Mark Grayson faces a multiversal threat in Invincible season 2 part 2 without Spider-Man. Not featuring Spider-Man was the right choice for Invincible season 2 to maintain tension.
Invincible season 2 featured a Spider-Man cameo of sorts in its finale, and while it was disappointing for some fans, it was actually the right choice for the show. Invincible season 2's heavily-teased cameo from Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the most looked-forward to moments of the season, with many fans of Image Comics and Marvel excited to see the two major properties cross over. However, when the Spider-Man cameo actually happened, it was a bit of a letdown, even though Invincible season 2 couldn't have handled things any better.

Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, was a critical disaster for DC. The film was panned by fans and critics alike, and even Reynolds refused to suit up to play Hal Jordan again.
Unfortunately, the film’s failure was not just limited to the box office. It had far-reaching effects, and one of the victims of the catastrophe was DC’s animated show. Green Lantern: The Animated Series could not evade the chopping block either, and its cancellation was tied to Reynold’s forgettable outing as the superhero.

The following contains spoilers for Invincible Season 2, Episode 8, "I Thought You Were Stronger," currently streaming on Prime Video.
He might not officially be Spider-Man, but Invincible still pulled off the comic's Invincible/Marvel crossover moment.
Speaking to Variety, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman talked about the season 2 finale's multiverse-hopping highlights, including Mark Grayson's brief interaction with a hero named Agent Spider. Where the comics saw him meet Spider-Man, this original non-Spidey doppelgänger helped the cartoon sidestep legal issues while keeping "that moment somewhat intact from the comics. It seemed like something that would be a fun and surprising way to do it. Amazon legal, painstakingly, was like, 'No, the costume can't be that color. We gotta get away from this and that.' There were a lot of eyes on that scene."
