This coming Wednesday, a slew of all-star artists will gather at Carnegie Hall in New York City for People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith, a tribute to the work of (you guessed it) legendary songwriter Patti Smith. As if the lineup wasn’t stacked enough, The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, is now set to join in on the fun.
The tribute concert is the latest installment of City Winery founder and CEO Michael Dorf’s “Music Of” benefit series, with all net proceeds going to music education for underserved youth. Tickets for the event are currently sold out (except for select VIP tiers), though secondary tickets are available via StubHub.

James Blake has stood up for fellow Brits Coldplay, calling for the “bashing” of the band to come to an end because “it’s not cool anymore.”
Blake shared his opinion during a recent episode of the BBC Sounds podcast Sidetracked with Annie and Nick, when he was asked to weigh in on a recent social media post from Chrissie Hynde, in which she shared what she thought was “cool” versus “uncool.”

Host Nick Grimshaw kicked off the conversation by asking Blake whether he thought bands in general were “cool” again. When word came out that Timothée Chalamet was pulling double duty as both the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, the obvious assumption was he’d perform a couple of familiar Bob Dylan songs that appear in A Complete Unknown and its soundtrack album. After all, this appearance was meant to both plug the movie and appeal to Academy Award voters deciding whether or not to give him a Best Actor trophy. But during the monologue at the top of the show, Chalamet offered a tantalizing tease of his plans.

Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and others honored the late Mark Lanegan during a tribute concert at the Roadhouse in London on Thursday night (December 5th).
The star-studded show, dubbed “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration,” was held in honor of the late singer’s 60th birthday (he would have turned 60 on November 25th). The Screaming Trees frontman and erstwhile member of Queens of the Stone Age passed away in February 2022 at the age of 57.
The 30-song setlist featured the performers singing mostly Lanegan’s solo tunes along with three Screaming Trees songs and one Gutter Twins number (“The Stations”).
The show was divided into mini sets, with Gahan singing the first four numbers, then Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Alison Mosshart each singing a block of songs. Lanegan’s Gutter Twins bandmate Greg Dulli took on four songs, including the aforementioned tune “The Stations.

When Sinéad O’Connor tore up a photo of the pope on Saturday Night Live in 1992 to draw attention to child sexual abuse in the Catholic church, just about everyone turned their back on her. She was banned for life by NBC, belittled by late-night comedians, often in painfully misogynistic ways, and even threatened with violence by Frank Sinatra. The one person who came to her aid in the days that followed was Kris Kristofferson. Kristofferson died Saturday at 88.

Humane Society International and our partner organizations together constitute one of the world’s largest animal protection organizations-backed by 11 million people. Hsi works to protect all animals-including animals in laboratories, farm animals, companion animals, and wildlife-and our record of achievement demonstrates our dedication and effectiveness. With the support of our advocates and donors, we have advocated for strong legislation to protect animals. For example, in 2009 we helped achieve a European Union ban on trade in seal products, a major step toward ending the annual commercial seal slaughter in Canada. We work with local animal organizations in countries all over the world to provide direct, hands-on care to animals in need and spread the culture of compassion. Our campaigns strike at the root of problems affecting animals by providing the tools and resources to prevent animal suffering both now and in the future.

For a decade, Friends became every fan’s favorite sitcom. The relatability of the show about 6 friends navigating life in New York also saw stars like Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow becoming hugely popular. Each character in the show had interesting traits that became synonymous with the actors who played them.

Kudrow who portrayed the quirky and free-spirited Phoebe Buffay in the series, had some of the most hilarious scenarios involving her character. One of her recognizable traits was her efforts to become a musician which saw her unsuccessfully attempt to play the guitar. Interestingly, the actor who was initially uncomfortable with this instrument, requested the creators to allow her to play an entertaining percussion instrument instead.

Taylor Swift is Currently in London as part of her Eras Tour (Photo Credit –Instagram)
34-year-old singer Taylor Swift is currently in London as part of her Eras Tour, which will resume in Liverpool on June 13 for her 100th performance. The “Fortnight” singer had a great time spending a night out with friends while taking a well-earned break.
She was spotted on June 11 with a mix of old and new friends for a girls’ night out at the Argentinean restaurant Casa Cruz. Swift looked amazing in expensive designer clothing that cost thousands of dollars, complete with her signature red lip and curtain bangs.
The Grammy winner’s attire is always a source of interest, and this outing was no exception. She effortlessly wore a chic, fashionable look that reflected her sophisticated style. In the 20 years since it was released, The Whisper has become the loudest part of Lost in Translation. What did Bill Murray’s Charlotte? And what did he mean? Was it really "I have to be leaving, but I won't let that come between us. Okay?" as is often theorised? Or maybe Murray, out of character, said "I love you is the best thing I can come up with. At some point, he has to tell it to her” which is another popular suggestion. Maybe it was something about her binning her absent husband. Maybe it was nothing at all.

McCartney was seen watching several of the weekend’s performances from the side of the stage. On Friday, he took in Foo Fighters’ surprise set. On Saturday, he watched as Guns N’ Roses covered Wings’ “Live and Let Die.” And on Sunday, he was capturing his own cell phone video of Elton John performing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”
Macca also briefly popped up on stage during Pretenders’ Saturday set, where he gave the crowd a quick wave. He hung out backstage with Chrissie Hynde, posed for a photo with Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese (and Pat Smear), and even took in a sun set with his wife Nancy Shevell.
For now, McCartney has no of his own concerts on the calendar,...

Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters weren’t even listed on the 2023 Glastonbury lineup, but they keep popping up onstage at the U.K. festival.
The day after the Foo Fighters played a secret set as the Churn Outs, Grohl appeared onstage alongside both the Pretenders and Guns N’ Roses, joining the latter’s headlining set to perform the evening-ending “Paradise City.”
Guns N’ Roses and Grohl previously linked up to play the Appetite for Destruction classic at the BottleRock Festival in 2021, but unlike that festival, both parties were actually able...

Following Foo Fighters’ surprise Friday performance at Glastonbury, Dave Grohl stuck around for another unannounced cameo on Saturday: the Foo Fighters frontman played drums for Pretenders during their own set at the UK festival.
Grohl wasn’t the only big-name guest to join Chrissie Hynde-led outfit. Johnny Marr, who briefly played in Pretenders following The Smiths’ breakup in 1987, also made a surprise appearance during the band’s Glastonbury set.
The Pretenders’ set included songs like “Back On the Chain Gang,” “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” “I’ll Stand By You,” and “Tattooed Love Boys.” Watch fan captured footage below.
Pretenders are set to release their new album, Relentless, on September 15th. Last week, they unveiled their latest single, “I Think About You Daily” featuring Jonny Greenwood.
Later this summer, Pretenders will open for Guns N’ Roses on their US stadium tour. Tickets are available here.

Coming after 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which is one of the most inventive animated movies ever made, the new "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is nothing close to a conventional sequel. The eye-popping, mind bending follow-up deconstructs and reinvents the superhero genre in act a joyous act of rebellion that could only be done inside this medium. Live-action comic book fare simply can't compete with groundbreaking animation at this simultaneously inspiring and disruptive level.
For a movie that's perfectly fine with tearing down and rebuilding what came before, "Across the Spider-Verse" carves out its own path in the world of film with unapologetic, reckless teenage abandon. So it's a perfect fit for the Brooklyn born and bred version of Spidey, Miles Morales, on alternate Earth-1610 -- a kid who isn't afraid to break the rules and go his own way.

After miraculously enticing Axl Rose to join her onstage at Stagecoach 2022 and, yet again, at her L.A. headlining concert earlier this year, Carrie Underwood will return the favor and open for Guns N’ Roses when the band plays Nashville on its summer 2023 tour. Underwood joined the entirety of Gnr onstage in London last summer, and it’s a fair bet fans will see her again between Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan in Music City.
In addition to the Nashville appearance at Geodis Park, Underwood will open two Guns N’ Roses shows in Canada.

The "Alien" universe created by director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Dan O'Bannon in 1979 is finally making the jump to episodic television in FX's long-awaited series from "Fargo" and "Legion" mastermind Noah Hawley. The project has been gestating since December of 2020 when it was first announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation by FX Chairman John Landgraf. Not to be confused with Fede Alvarez's upcoming "Alien" movie that's set to eventually premiere on Hulu, Hawley's "Alien" series will be set decades before the original voyage of the Nostromo and will mark the first time that the sci-fi horror franchise has been set on Earth.
For fans who remember the intentionally misleading teaser trailer for "Alien 3" that promised a return to our home planet, the potential of seeing a Xenomorph on our own home turf should be an exciting prospect. FX's "Alien" will officially be the first live-action television series,...

The Pretenders are back with a new album, Relentless, Chrissie Hynde and company’s first LP in three years.
“I enjoy seeing the various meanings and origins of a word,” Hynde said of the album title in a statement. “And I liked the definition: ‘showing no abatement of intensity.’ So when it came to an album title, it seemed fitting. The Alien TV series that's in development at FX has just found its lead star. Previously, it was reported that the franchise would be moving to the small screen with an original story set in the Alien universe, unconnected to any of the feature films. The show comes from Noah Hawley, and not much information has yet been revealed about the plot. Now, the first member of the cast has been revealed, as THR has divulged that Sydney Chandler will play a lead role in the TV show.
Chandler, the daughter of actor Kyle Chandler, is already familiar with FX Networks, having previously appeared in the limited series Pistol. In the series, which was her small screen debut, Chandler played real-life singer Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. On the big screen, Chandler appeared in last year's Don't Worry Darling, Olivia Wilde's psychological thriller that also starred Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.

The Alien TV series from Fargo‘s Noah Hawley has taken a big step forward as THR has reported that Sydney Chandler has signed on to star in the project.
Of course, there are no details on who Sydney Chandler will play in the Alien TV series, only that she will be one of the leads. Chandler is best known for starring in Pistol, a miniseries chronicling the rise of the Sex Pistols. She played Chrissie Hynde, founding member of The Pretenders. Chandler was also featured alongside Florence Pugh and Harry Styles in Don’t Worry Darling.

Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien has found one of its leads in Sydney Chandler, the network has confirmed.
Back at January’s TCA, FX boss John Landgraf said that the Fargo creator was in pre-production on Alien with an eye on starting production this year. The series reportedly takes place before the days of Sigourney Weaver’s alien fighter Ripley. It’s the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth, 70 years from current day.
Alien brings Chandler back to work at FX, the actress having made her television debut in the network’s series Pistol from director and executive producer Danny Boyle. That six-episode series, which premieres May 31 exclusively on Hulu, centers around the legendary Sex Pistols. Chandler portrays singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

In an op-ed in the Guardian, titled, “Why Are Women So Marginalised by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” rock singer and guitarist Courtney Love criticized the organization’s nomination process for excluding women and black artists.
“The nominations for this year’s class, announced last month, offered the annual reminder of just how extraordinary a woman must be to make it into the ol’ boys club,” she wrote.

Although there are a record number of women nominees this year, Love cited Kate Bush as a specific example, noting that she did not make the ballot until 2018 even though she was eligible for nomination since 2004.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame took more than 30 years to induct Nina Simone and Carole King. She said that this trend could be partly explained by the fact that “of the 31 people on the nominating board, just nine are women.

Courtney Love is ready for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to start recognizing women and people of color. The "Doll Parts" singer wrote a scathing op-ed on the subject for The Guardian on March 17. In her essay, she noted that women make up barely eight percent of the inductees, while the statistics for people of color are roughly the same. Popsugar reached out to reps for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for comment on Love's remarks, but did not receive an immediate response.
"If the Rock Hall is not willing to look at the ways it is replicating the violence of structural racism and sexism that artists face in the music industry, if it cannot properly honor what visionary women artists have created, innovated, revolutionized and contributed to popular music - well, then let it go to hell in a handbag," Love wrote.
Throughout the essay, Love notes...

The vibe for costumes in Amazon’s “Daisy Jones & the Six” ranges from boho chic to lots of denim and earthtones oozing ‘70s California vibes. Costume designer Denise Wingate spent many weekends scouring thrift shops and flea markets to build the wardrobe that consisted of over 1500 changes for the series based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Riley Keough stars as Daisy Jones, the lead singer of the rock band The Six, which is shown as it climbs the music charts. Showrunner Scott Neustadter wanted the visuals to look “realistic and not costumey,” says Wingate, who started by putting together individual mood boards for the principals.

Vivienne Westwood, the rule-breaking, irreverent fashion designer who came to prominence along with the Sex Pistols in the 1970s, has died at age 81.
On its Instagram page, her fashion brand announced that the designer — one of the original architects of the punk fashion look — died Thursday “peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London.”
“Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. In a statement, Andreas Kronthaler, Vivienne’s husband and creative partner said: “I will continue with Vivienne in my heart. We have been working until the end and she has given me plenty of things to get on with.

Merry Christmas, one and all, it's time to break out the mince pies (as if you haven't already), pour the prosecco and put on some festive music.
Christmas songs don't always have to be merry – among the most beloved festive tunes are "2,000 Miles" by The Pretenders, which is curiously bleak, and the heartbreak of Wham!'s "Last Christmas".
Of course, there are plenty of upbeat songs on our list, too, from Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" to Mariah Carey's"All I Want for Christmas is You".
Here are some of our favourites, from Forties classics to more recent pop hits, to get your Christmas celebrations into full swing.
18) “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” – John Lennon and Yoko Ono
