Without hyperbole, Michael Patrick Jann ("The State") and Lona Williams' ("Sugar & Spice") mockumentary comedy film about a small-town Minnesota beauty pageant is my favorite comedy film, ever. As a former teenage Midwest beauty queen myself, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" speaks to me on a religious level. My blood is not red, it is Mount Rose, and I am an American Teen Princess Pageant girl for life. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" turns 25 this year — one of the many teen girl masterpieces released in 1999 — but is still criminally underseen due to the film's poor box office performance at the time of release and subsequent years of physical releases being out of print. It's a shame because the cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janney, Kirstie Alley, Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams (her debut role!), Alexandra Holden, Nora Dunn, Mo Gaffney, Will Sasso, Matt Malloy, Mike McShane, Mindy Sterling, Sam McMurray, and...

David Schwimmer as Ross Geller on Friends is a fan favorite with his sarcastic timing and geeky quips. But apart from several comedic moments, the character also had a whirlwind of ups and downs in his romantic life, marked by three failed marriages and several dating mishaps.

But amidst his many relationships, one of the most controversial was his romance with his student Elizabeth. From the get-go, the episode sparked discussions, with many calling the pairing one of the most bizarre plotlines of the sitcom.

Dead End is the embodiment of the old saying “road to nowhere.” In this 2003 horror movie, one unlucky family’s annual trip to grandma’s house doesn’t go according to plan. What awaits these unsuspecting characters is a series of events that will steer them straight into the unknown. It’s one hell of a Christmas in this macabre holiday tale, which stirs up uncertainty and unrest as the pavement stretches on forever.
Dead End first showed up on video-store shelves around 2004 after enjoying great success at multiple film festivals. Made on a low budget of less than a million dollars and with a small cast of actors, this California-shot yet French-financed horror-comedy has, strangely enough, yet to be reissued on a physical media format higher than DVD. Nevertheless, it remains a cult favorite all these years later. The colorful dialogue, the progressively unnerving atmosphere, and the ensemble of...

Jean-Claude Van Damme admits that his cameo on Friends was embarrassing. Van Damme didn't know anything about the show when he was asked to appear, but everyone was very kind to him on set. Van Damme's cameo on the hit sitcom was one of several memorable appearances by major stars, including Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.
Friends fans may remember Jean-Claude Van Damme's cameo in the series as a fun moment, but for the action movie actor it's a rather embarrassing memory. The One After The Superbowl Part II is the 13th episode of the second season of the sitcom, and it premiered when it was already going through one of its greatest moments of popularity and was starting to add some great actors for inventive cameos. In fact, the martial arts expert is not the only big star who participates in the episode, since Julia Roberts also appears.

[This is a re-post of my review from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. In a World...opens today in limited release.] I usually like movies that have some sense of structure and pacing. If they don't have these qualities, then I like these films to be truly daring and outside-the-box. Lake Bell's In a World… is a rambling mess of a nice little comedy with too many characters, and has almost no sense of pacing or flow. But somehow, it's still a charming flick. Bell gives a fun lead performance, and she surrounds herself with a likable cast. Even the subtext is cutesy. In a World… should be a movie that I found a slog, but somehow, Bell's film won me over despite its glaring flaws. Carol (Bell) is a voice coach in Hollywood who aspires to be the voice over trailers like the great Don Lafontaine who coined the famous trailer phrase, "In a world…" Her hopes are repeatedly crushed by her self-centered father Sam (Ken Melamed), who is...

Lovely Molly
Stars: Gretchen Lodge, Johnny Lewis, Alexandra Holden | Written by Eduardo Sanchez, Jamie Nash | Directed by Eduardo Sanchez
Known predominantly for the massive hit that was The Blair Witch Project (one of the highest-grossing independent films of all time no less), Eduardo Sanchez returns with what is his fourth directorial effort since that films groundbreaking debut and his best movie yet. Now I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of Blair Witch, I enjoyed it for what it was but the obnoxious cast always put me off, however Sanchez’s 2006 directorial follow-up Altered was a stroke of genius that undeservedly shoved out as a direct to DVD release. But now he’s back, surpassing all expectations with Lovely Molly.
The film starts off innocently enough, with the titular Molly (Lodge) and her newlywed husband Tim (Lewis) moving into the old family homestead to start their married life together.

It's hard to feel sorry for the directors of The Blair Witch Project. They made a movie that launched a whole new genre of filmmaking with their "found footage" technique. Since then, the Paranormal Activity franchise has squeezed millions out of the filming style while others followed in hot pursuit to cash in on the craze. There's been The Devil Inside, The Last Exorcism, and even Chronicle.
The sad thing is now when Blair Witch director Eduardo Sanchez uses the very cinematography he helped fashion in Lovely Molly, it comes across as stale and overused. Although it isn't fair to him, his new film proves even the owner of the well can't go back to it when it's used too often.

One-hit wonder horror director Eduardo Sánchez returns to the genre after years of fiddling with side projects and riding off of the hype of his co-directing effort The Blair Witch Project. His latest film Lovely Molly is only further proof that he got lucky with Blair Witch and that maybe he should stop making movies altogether. Lovely Molly is a lousy horror film that tries to mix found-footage and traditional filmmaking, but only results in two hours of unsatisfactory character work and very little real horror.
Molly (Gretchen Lodge) is starting a new life at her deceased father’s cabin. She and her newlywed husband Tim (Johnny Lewis) decide to move in and settle down. Tim is a truck driver, so he spends most of his time away, which leaves Molly all alone in her father’s former residence. There’s a haunted past that slowly creeps forward as Molly...

Eduardo Sánchez, along with Daniel Myrick stunned the world in 1999 with the unexpected success of The Blair Witch Project. Sánchez’s latest film, Lovely Molly, sees him returning somewhat to the “found footage” sub-genre he and Myrick popularized for modern audiences.
Molly and Tim (Gretchen Lodge and Johnny Lewis) are a newlywed couple who move into Molly’s childhood home for a new start, but at what cost? Upon her return to the familial abode, it doesn’t take long for Molly to become possessed by the ghosts of her past.
Molly’s husband is a long haul trucker, so she has plenty of time to marinate in the pain of the past in the place where it was inflicted. While Tim is away for the first time since their move, Molly begins seeing and hearing things: voices calling to her, a terrible and painful wailing, and doors opening and slamming shut.

Lovely Molly will be released to Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow and we’ve been given an exclusive clip to share with our readers. This particular clip shows a segment from the film where Molly is investigating noises in her house. It includes commentary from director Eduardo Sánchez and co-writer Jamie Nash, who talk about how working inside of a claustrophobic house helped get everyone into the right mood.
“When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, remainders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. A malevolent force, whether her own huanted past or some supernatural ‘thing,’ tirelessly seeks to overwhelm her. Alone and isolated in a centuries-old house, she soon begins an inexorable descent into depravity. Somewhere in the house, in that terrible space between psychosis and possession, lies an evil that will pull Molly and all those around her into darkness and death.”

Director: Eduardo Sánchez. Writers: Jamie Nash and Eduardo Sánchez. Cast: Alexandra Holden, Johnny Lewis, Gretchen Lodge, Ken Arnold, and Lauren Lakis. Lovely Molly is a film from director Eduardo Sánchez. Sánchez might be best known for his work on the Blair Witch Project (1999). In his latest, he sticks with horror and perhaps Sánchez further perfects his art with Lovely Molly. After all, this is a truly unsettling picture with actress Gretchen Lodge playing an often tormented Molly. This film's many horrifying scenes might make viewers question the source of Molly's increasingly violent actions. This reviewer believes the events are caused by three elements: a supernatural site (haunted house), abuse and possession. These three elements come together like a whirlwind of terror in the film's story. That terror comes from the writing team of Jamie Nash and Sánchez. These two have written a horrifying tale, which puts Molly up against a demonic force.

Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick have had an interesting trajectory. They co-directed The Blair Witch Project thirteen years ago, that “found footage” granddaddy which would prove not only to be an incredible success, but a great inspiration to genre filmmakers a decade later. Love it or hate it, Blair Witch is a milestone whose lasting impact can’t be ignored. While Myrick has made a few Dtv clunkers, Sánchez has managed to make two Dtv gems — Altered, a dark horror-comedy about alien abduction revenge, and Seventh Moon, a hand-held camera honeymoon nightmare in China. Worth checking out. So, how does his latest effort stack up?
Lovely Molly combines a traditional style with found-footage elements through a handi-cam Molly carries around with her. There’s usually a dumb excuse as to why the characters are carrying around a camera while they’re freaked out. Molly’s isn’t really that important,...

What we've learned from this exclusive new trailer for Lovely Molly is that you can never go home. Or at least, you can, but horrible things will happen and you'll wish you hadn't. Check out the full thing below. brightcove.createExperiences();Lovely Molly comes from the twisted mind of Eduardo Sánchez, who will forever be known as one of the creators of The Blair Witch Project, even if he turns round and starts making rom-coms. Not that this qualifies - what with traces of found footage and a blurry glimpse of someone standing eerily in the darkness, this would seem to share some creative DNA with the 1999 break-out hit.Lovely Molly stars Gretchen Lodge, Alexandra Holden and Johnny Lewis, and hits cinemas on June 29.
