It is just about an immutable truth that Michael Caine is doing God-level work as Ebenezer Scrooge in "The Muppet Christmas Carol." The 1992 adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic is, partly because it arrived in theaters soon after the tragic and untimely passing of Muppet creator Jim Henson, a surprisingly straightforward take on the holiday story of a grouchy and rich old Londoner who gets a revival of the human spirit after experiencing ghostly visions. Exclusive: Halle Stanford, The Jim Henson Company’s longtime President of Television, is relaunching her company, 7 Crow Stories, as she embarks on a new chapter in her career as an independent producer and writer. As part of this new venture, the Emmy winner has signed a first-look producing deal with The Jim Henson Company, where she has worked as a producer and executive for the past 30 years.

Under her 7 Crow Stories banner, Stanford will develop a variety of live-action and animated projects for The Jim Henson Company for preschool, family, and primetime audiences, continuing to prioritize entertaining, impactful, and imaginative content across a wide range of genres. Previously announced projects include the primetime fantasy series Goblins with Norman Reedus, the primetime animated series Lore Olympus, based on Webtoon’s digital comic series, and the older kids’ animated series Adrenaline Lemmings. Currently, Stanford is also attached to develop a future production of Fraggle Rock.

It has been a full couple of weeks for Robert Eggers. Nosferatu, his Gothic remake of the 1922 classic, is leading the box office with $156 million so far. A few days ago, cinephiles got word that he's staying in the Universal monster motif with Werwulf coming next. (No relation with the foible-ridden "Dark Universe.")

Now comes the announcement that the cerebral moviemaker is going to make a sequel to the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth. The film starred the wit and whimsy of Jim Henson, who created a compelling story and fascinating puppets for a fantasy world featuring Ziggy Stardust himself, David Bowie.

Eggers signed on to direct and co-write with his creative partner Sjón, with whom he collaborated on The Northman. Variety reported Chris and Eleanor Columbus are slated to produce the film with Lisa Henson. Also along for the ride is Jim's son, Brian Henson, who will be executive producing.

Jeff Sneider recently reported that Nosferatu director Robert Eggers was set to helm a new Labyrinth movie, and while some were quick to dismiss the rumor, it's now been confirmed.

Back in 2020, we got word that Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson had signed on to helm a sequel to Jim Henson's fantasy classic for Sony-owned studio TriStar Pictures. Updates have pretty much been non-existent since, and we had heard that another filmmaker was being sought for the project - we just didn't expect it to be Eggers!

“Nosferatu” director Robert Eggers is set to write and direct the sequel to Jim Henson’s the 1986 cult fantasy movie “Labyrinth” for TriStar Pictures, Variety has confirmed.

Eggers is writing the project with his writing partner Sjón, while Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus are producing alongside Lisa Henson. Brian Henson is executive producing.

The sequel originally had Scott Derrickson set to direct. When asked about the status of the project for TriStar Pictures and Jim Henson Pictures in 2023, Derrickson admitted it was “a tough nut to crack” and apparently exited after that. The script had been set to be written by Maggie Levin, and it was being described as a sequel at the time.

A day after Focus Features’ announcement of Werwulf, which he’s set as his next film on the heels of Nosferatu, we’ve learned that the filmmaker has closed his deal to write and direct a new Labyrinth film for TriStar Pictures.

The news comes following the unveiling of the 2025 Oscar nominations, which included four for Eggers’ hit vampire flick in the Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design and Makeup and Hairstyling categories.

Meanwhile, he was also asked by ComicBook about the rumors that he was setting up a Labyrinth film. Eggers did not outright deny the rumors, nothing that he has a "ton of things in development." This might even suggest that there's some truth to the reports, but that the reboot is just one of multiple potential projects Eggers has his sights on. The director then clarified that, after Nosferatu, he wanted to tell an "original" story for his next film.

If you're looking for a raunchy R-rated comedy that also features the masterful puppeteering of the Jim Henson Company, Netflix has you covered next month. The Happytime Murders, the 2018 box-office bomb that combined sex, violence, and puppets, will be available to watch on the streaming service starting December 1. The Happytime Murders was in development for years; it was first announced by Brian Henson, who would write and direct it, in 2008. It was the first (and so far only) film released under the Henson Alternative banner, which was meant to produce edgier puppet-based fiction.

Wicked transports audiences to the world of The Wizard of Oz, with Universal’s adaptation of the Broadway smash starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo hitting theaters Nov. 22. It’s certainly had a smoother road than 1985’s Return to Oz.

The historic Jim Henson Company lot, which started life as Charlie Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, has found a new buyer: John Mayer.

Yes, the singer-songwriter behind “Daughters” and “Waiting on the World to Change” has partnered with filmmaker McG to purchase the sprawling lot, located in the heart of Hollywood at 1416 N. La Brea Ave. The contract is in final negotiations as of Monday night, TheWrap has learned.

Mayer recorded his excellent 2021 album “Sob Rock” at Henson Recording Studios, part of the same lot, and filmed a performance video for “Last Train Home” (from the “Sob Rock”) album there.

The word “epic” gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of Grendel, a live-action retelling of John Gardner’s 1971 novel of the same name, it’s not hyperbole. Writer-director Robert D. Krzykowski adapted the book, a modern classic that retells the old English epic poem Beowulf from the perspective of the monster Grendel, who terrorizes the kingdom of Hrothgar of the Danes for 12 years.

The cast is epic, too, with Jeff Bridges as the titular monster, Bryan Cranston as King Hrothgar, Dave Bautista as the warrior Beowulf and T Bone Burnett as the blind, harp-playing Shaper.

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is doing the creature work and design. Filming is set to begin in Europe next year.

The Jim Henson Company, the company behind Fraggle Rock and Farscape, is in the process of developing a new kids television series called Paul the Bear with Julia Pott and former Disney Channel star Raviv Ullman, best known for his role as Phil Diffy in Phil of the Future. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the new series will be a live-action show.

Paul the Bear is the story of a recently retired brown bear who is trying to get in touch with himself and his community. The show is in the process of being introduced to interested buyers at MIPCOM, an annual trade show for the TV industry that is held in Cannes, France.

“In regards to recent rumors about the sale of the La Brea studio lot, the Henson family is not in any business dealings with the Church of Scientology, and that organization is not in consideration as a potential buyer of the property,” the estate said in a statement.

Writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy film series James Gunn (now also Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios) is a fan of Farscape and has admitted he drew inspiration from the series. Jeff Bridges will lead a star-studded live-action adaptation of John Gardner's Grendel, which retells part of Beowulf from the monster's perspective. Alongside Bridges, Dave Bautista will appear as Beowulf, Bryan Cranston as King Hrothgar, Sam Elliott as The Dragon, Thomasin McKenzie as Queen Wealhtheow, and Aidan Turner as Unferth (per The Hollywood Reporter). Composer, producer, and songwriter T Bone Burnett will provide original music for the film and appear in the movie as The Shaper. Robert D.
