British comic Jimmy Carr says Elon Musk caused “some consternation” when he arrived at a Carr comedy recording for Comedy Central back in 2016. “Elon came along as a friend of a friend. … I said to Comedy Central, I’m bringing some guests. And they went, ‘Oh, that’s fine,’” Carr told Telegraph U.K. “And I went, he’s got some security, and then eight guys with Ak-47s rolled up.”
Kind of kills the laugh vibes for everyone else in the room, but Carr said that display of lethal firepower was completely understandable. “He’s the biggest kidnap threat in the world,” the comic insisted. “Because there’s three billion-dollar companies that all go to zero if he gets popped. It’s not like guarding the president, where they can take an afternoon off every now and then. They’ve really got to take this seriously. There’s money at stake.

The 64-year-old comedian opened up about years after getting to the bottom of a rumor that caused an explosive fight between Lisa Rinna and Kim Richards during a season five episode of the Bravo reality series.
While talking about Lisa‘s concern over the way Kim was acting, Kim brought up, “Let’s talk about the husband,” and alleged that there was something Lisa and husband Harry Hamlin were trying to keep a secret. This caused Lisa to freak out, and she ended up slamming a wine glass on the table causing it to shatter.

As a former cast member of Saturday Night Live, Julia Sweeney is known in part for playing "Pat," an androgynous character whose gender was often joked about in recurring sketches. Typically, the humor revolved around other characters speculating on Pat's gender.
At the time, the Pat character was popular enough to get a tie-in feature film greenlit with Sweeney starring in the role. In more recent years, the character (along with the It's Pat film) have come under fire for poking fun at gender identity. While on The View (per Variety), Sweeney reflected on the role, noting that "there was some criticism" leveled against Pat. While she understands where the criticism is coming from, Sweeney also defended Pat, clarifying that the character does not identify as non-binary or transgender — and may not even be a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

When Kit Williamson’s “EastSiders” premiered on YouTube in December 2012, Netflix had not yet debuted its first original series. A dozen years later, streaming has overtaken traditional television in the market — and Williamson is back with another LGBTQ+ slice of life show, this time in the form of “Unconventional” on Revry.
“I don’t know that anybody really predicted it becoming what it’s become,” the actor/creator/writer/director told TheWrap of the streaming boom. “I hope that there is an increasing demand for independently created television when we live in such a, let’s be honest, metric-driven world where algorithms are deciding whether or not stories get told or continued.”
“Will we have the same four-quadrant appeal as ‘7th Heaven’? No, we won’t. But that’s Ok,” Williamson explained. “We need specific stories that cater to our communities authentically and don’t pull their punches or try...

"The X-Files" was a series that had what is perhaps the platonic ideal of a structure for a scripted TV show. By alternating episodes involving a "Monster-of-the-week" and shows dealing with the series' overarching mythology of conspiracies and extraterrestrial activity, the series managed to be both an Ez-on, Ez-off episodic procedural, a genre anthology show, and a serialized saga that rewarded constant viewing. Thus, longtime fans could feel their investment paying off while new fans could jump on board at just about any point during the show's original 9-season run.
The only detriment to this near-perfect setup is the fact that it invited the possibility of as many low points as it did high ones. While certain sections of the fandom have their general preferences for which overall seasons were best and which weren't, even the most adoring fan of "The X-Files" will admit its propensity to be uneven, with...

With 11 seasons, two movies, and a plethora of spin-off material, there's no denying that The X-Files is a hit. Not only did it transform the modern sci-fi genre, but it also altered how fans see romance arcs as well as female characters. Even after three decades, fans still adore Mulder and Scully.
But with so much content on offer, it makes sense that not every episode will be as successful as others. However, the show is known for being a tad experimental at times, producing a wealth of strange arcs and plot twists. As such, even though fans love this show, there are some episodes that fans find too awful to rewatch.

Kit Williamson, best known for creating and starring in the Emmy-nominated series “EastSiders,” is back with “Unconventional.”
Premiering on LGBTQ streaming platform Revry on Feb. 11, the TV comedy series stars Williamson as Noah, a queer millennial questioning the future of his 10-year marriage to his husband Dan (James Bland). At the same time, Noah becomes the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza. Each episode follows a month of the pregnancy.
As Williamson first told me when I broke the news about the show’s Revry deal, “Unconventional” is “unapologetically queer.”
“I think we’re in a really interesting inflection point where I think we’re being told to quiet down, and I actually think that the opposite approach is what is needed,” Williamson says, alluding to the Trump administration’s anti-lgbtq policies and directives. “I’m not going to quiet down. An unfairly criticized Jim Carrey movie has gotten a new streaming home. As of Jan. 1, The Cable Guy is now available to stream on Max.
Released in 1996, The Cable Guy was directed by Ben Stiller and written by Lou Holtz Jr. The movie features Sonic the Hedgehog 3 star Jim Carrey as a cable TV installer who aggressively befriends a customer played by Matthew Broderick. While it was expected to reach greater heights financially with Carrey in the lead, the film was still profitable at the box office, earning over $102 million against a budget of $47 million — $20 million of which reportedly went straight into Carrey's pocket. Its reception was also divisive, garnering mixed reviews and respective critics and audiences scores of 55% and 51% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Whitney Cummings let loose on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live special on Tuesday night (December 31) as she poked fun at hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper, roasted 2024, and mocked the network’s ratings. The comedian wasted no time with the jibes as she joined Cohen and Cooper to ring in the new year. She started by referencing Cooper’s former New Year’s Eve Live co-host, Kathy Griffin, who was dropped by the network in 2017 after she posed for a publicity photo of her holding up an effigy of Donald Trump‘s severed head. “Was that thunder?” Cummings asked as she joined the co-hosts in New York City’s Times Square. “Are you sure? I thought it was Kathy Griffin screaming at you from the street. Are you sure? I think she’s cursing.” Cummings went on to promote her 2025 tour, where she said she is “playing bigger and bigger venues.

Kit Williamson’s new scripted half-hour comedy series “Unconventional” has been acquired by LGBTQ streaming network Revry.
Williamson, a six-time Emmy nominee best known as the creator and star of “Eastsiders,” stars in “Unconventional” as Noah Guillory, a queer millennial struggling with his 10-year marriage, possibly starting a family, and the future of his PhD program while also acting as the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza.
The nine-episode season – each episode follows a month of Eliza’s pregnancy — will premiere on Revry on Feb. 11.
“‘Unconventional’ comes at a time where stories about marginalized communities are more important than ever and ‘Unconventional’ is an unapologetically queer show,” Williamson said Thursday. “Unfortunately, LGBTQ representation has diminished considerably since ‘Eastsiders’ ended, and mainstream depictions often shy away from the complex realities of queer love. Revry is the perfect home for the series and I couldn’t be more excited about the acquisition.

“Excuse me? I think I should be the next Golden Bachelorette,” she said on the podcast before addressing Joan Vassos, the first woman to lead this chapter of the Bachelor franchise. “So, the current one is great. I love her. Ok, so Kathy Griffin’s the Golden Bachelorette.”
She continued, “Here’s my pitch. [In] the first episode, where there’s the most bachelors and the most roses, I fuck each one, each one, and then I decide. No hidden cameras, just a little blur here and there for the cellulite. Boom! Ratings gold.”

It's Thanksgiving week, and that usually means time off, vacations, and in the world of late-night TV, a hiatus or two. But only one show will be off this week ... and it just so happens to be one of the big ones.
Fall is always a busy time of year for television. New shows premiere and the holiday blockbuster season starts. So that means late-night TV lineups are full of big-name stars looking to promote their latest projects. Throw in everything going on post-election, and late-night TV has a lot on its pre-Thanksgiving plate.
However, don't expect to feast on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert or The Daily Show this week. The CBS show plans to air repeat episodes all week long, beginning on Monday night. The same goes for Comedy Central's late-night show
It hasn't been confirmed when Stephen Colbert will be back in the Ed Sullivan Theater with new episodes.

It’s turkey time, and that means a slightly altered late-night landscape. While some hosts take a well-deserved break, Jimmy Kimmel keeps the lights on at ABC, offering a Thanksgiving week lineup that blends the familiar (Garth Brooks) with the, shall we say, less predictable (Knocked Loose featuring Poppy). Kicking things off on Monday, November 25, […]

While he began his career telling jokes about frozen garbage pastries, Jim Gaffigan has since become a solid dramatic actor. Recently, he starred in the surreal indie dramedy Linoleum, and before that, he appeared in not one, not two, but three different Law & Order series, for five episodes total.
The TV procedural empire has frequently given comedians opportunities to take on more series roles, including Kathy Griffin, Martin Short and Gilbert Gottfried, who popped up in two episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, playing an NYPD technical wiz opposite fellow guest star Adam Driver.
Gaffigan guest starred in two episodes of the original Law & Order, one episode of Law & Order: Svu and two episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. And he played different characters in each one, thus destroying the believability of the Law & Order-verse.

The 2024 election is approaching fast, with less than two weeks to go until election day on Nov. 5, and the campaigns are both winding down and heating up as a result. It's been one of the weirdest in recent memory, what with President Joe Biden dropping out of the race after his disastrous and concerning debate performance. Hollywood always likes to speak out, with the loudest voices usually being liberals, but there have been some surprising endorsements of Donald Trump recently, and now we can add Mel Gibson to the list.
While leaving the airport, a member of the paparazzi asked Gibson about the coming election, as reported by TMZ. "Oh man, that's a big question," said Gibson. "I don't think it's going to surprise anyone who I vote for." The reporter then asked if Trump was a bad guess. "I think that's a pretty good guess," responded Gibson. "I know...

As ill-fated coffee shop burglar Pumpkin in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” Tim Roth knows the truth about a privileged piece of movie mythology.
“We tend to know only as much as [our character] would know, but one thing that I do know because my character would know, which is what’s in the suitcase,” Roth reveals. “But Quentin asked me not to mention it.”
In a film full of mysteries, the contents of that sacred object remain among the biggest. But even without Jules Winnfield’s 9mm pistol pointed at his head, Roth is kind enough to volunteer an answer that, though perhaps slightly disappointing, is at least factually accurate. “I remember him saying that the answer if they ask you was, ‘A battery and a lamp’.”

Rosanna Arquette had to wait 30 years to be able to appreciate Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.”
The actress, who plays the character Jody in the ensemble film, told Variety that she originally had to leave the 1994 film premiere as the feature was “so violent.” Arquette further reflected on the “cringe-worthy moments” in the Academy Award-winning script co-written by Roger Avary.
“I was pregnant when it came out, and I remember going into it and it was so violent my mom and I had to leave. So I’d never sat and watched it as a cinema experience until 30 years later at the Chinese Theatre [during the TCM Film Festival retrospective],” she said. “It’s still this cultural phenomenon, but also I still have the issue of, enough with the N-word. For me, that’s always been an issue, and I didn’t realize how much it was an issue until I saw it this last time.

Amazon MGM packs its bags for Sporkinfeesten, a family vacation comedy with Bobby Farrelly directing

Say it with me: Sporkinfeesten. Have you got that? No? Don’t worry; eventually, it’ll roll right off your tongue. Bobby Farrelly, co-director of Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, There’s Something About Mary, and the director of 2023’s feelgood sports comedy Champions, is packing his bags for Sporkinfeesten, a family vacation comedy at Amazon MGM. Sporkinfeesten, based on a spec script by Aaron and Will Eisenberg, is based on a true story about “finding your roots.”
Plot details remain a mystery, but it’s Farrelly’s next project after wrapping production on Dear Santa, starring Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howrey, and Post Malone about a young boy who, in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and it to Stan instead.

For decades, The Tonight Show has been the standard for all late-night talk shows. Johnny Carson made it an institution, and any star or comedian knew landing a spot would boost their career. They also knew that keeping on Johnny’s good side was vital, as if you crossed him, he’d hit a ban that would harm a career. That was kept up by Jay Leno as being banned from The Tonight Show was a big deal.
Some supposed “bans” aren’t really true, like Sylvester Stallone. It’s also tricky to see if some stars were banned or just fell out of popularity. However, there are clear-cut cases of bans by Tonight Show hosts as these ten celebrities committed some affront to prevent themselves from sitting on that famous couch.

Kathy Griffin breaks her silence just once during the hourlong flight. “So far,” the redhead whispers, “it’s just a lot about food.”
Earbuds back in, she returns to the source of her frustration: hour 23 of Barbra Streisand’s 48-hour audiobook memoir. The comedian enters a semi-meditative state, eyes closed and left hand on Elliot Stabler, the vibrating chihuahua mutt who’s as much her emotional support animal as she is his. Griffin has a few reasons for wanting quiet on our June trip from Los Angeles to her San Jose tour stop, but the one that matters most right now is that she footed the bill for this chartered jet. The five other passengers, all but two of us on her payroll, oblige her wish. My first time flying private is at the behest of a self-identifying fourth-tier celebrity who spent two months of 2017 on the No Fly List.

Comedian Kathy Griffin revealed that she has felt abandoned by her friends ever since her infamous 2017 photograph with a bloodied mask likened to the severed head of the former president.
While Griffin’s photo was intended to display her intense dislike for the former president, in response to the photograph, the Department of Justice investigated Griffin, and she was added to the no-fly list, an Interpol criminal list and an international terrorist watchlist.
After authorities became concerned and Griffin apologized, her lawyer clarified, “Like many edgy works of artistic expression, the photo could be interpreted differently. But Griffin never imagined that it could be misinterpreted as a threat of violence… That was never what she intended. She has never threatened or committed an act of violence against anyone.”

The Democratic Party has officially moved on from Michelle Obama's classic "when they go low, we go high" motto. In recent weeks, Kamala Harris ' 2024 Presidential campaign has adopted a refreshingly blunt tactic: calling out Republican politicians for being weird "creeps" who are obsessed with controlling women's bodies. The trend continued earlier this week when Nick Offerman appeared at a fundraiser for the Harris campaign, where he performed a song brutally dragging former President Donald Trump and his 2024 running mate, Jd Vance.
The Parks & Recreation star was one of many celebrity guests on deck earlier this week for the Comics for Kamala livestream fundraiser. "I would never have thought it would be necessary to say, but Im powerfully grateful to vote for a presidential candidate in Kamala Harris who didnt just prosecute rapists but also is not one herself, so please count me in on that team, Offerman said...

Jane Fonda, Nick Offerman and more Hollywood figures voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign during virtual fundraising events held on Monday night.
“I don’t recall anything like this where all of a sudden, it became exciting and hopeful and a total turnaround. And I know we all feel the excitement, but don’t you also feel the vast potential for the future that has opened up?” Fonda asked at a Zoom fundraising rally called “Elders for Kamala.” “It’s not just because the orange man is terrible, it’s because Kamala is the leader we need right now. She’s fierce, she’s smart, she’s experienced and she can beat him.”
She added, “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling it in my body and my bones, we can do this.”

During Green Day’s North American “Saviors Tour” kickoff show in Washington, D.C., on Monday (July 29th), Billie Joe Armstrong held up a Donald Trump mask with the word “Idiot” written across its forehead. The frontman’s actions have caught the ire of Maga supporters, some of whom are calling for a boycott on the punk band.
The mask apparently was tossed to Armstrong from a fan in the front row (see photo gallery below). Video footage shows the singer holding it up as he sings the American Idiot song “Jesus of Suburbia,” before flinging it back out to the crowd.

The Cable Guy, despite featuring notable stars, was a critical failure compared to Jim Carrey's previous hits. Matthew Broderick and Judd Apatow defend Carrey's performance in the film, noting the pressure he faced due to his hefty salary. Carrey unexpectedly reprised his role in 2022 for a Super Bowl ad.
The Cable Guy was released in 1996 on the back of three huge Jim Carrey hits that seemed to suggest he could do no wrong. However, unlike Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber, The Cable Guy was a critical failure and only a borderline box office success in comparison, and marked one of the first real low-points in the actors career since he came to the attention of Hollywood. During a recent appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival, Carreys co-star Matthew Broderick and the movies producer Judd Apatow shared their memories of the film and its original status as a failure.

White House residents and Hollywood megastars shared the stage inside Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on Saturday night for what turned out to be a record-setting Democratic fundraising haul as President Biden’s reelection campaign netted more than $30 million from the one-night-only event.
But even with all that cash and the glamour of A-list headliners George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Jimmy Kimmel (who moderated a 40-minute chat with Biden and former President Barack Obama), the shadow of Biden’s Republican opponent, Donald Trump, loomed large. During the conversation, the trio took turns ripping Trump’s questionable track record, his history of lying to the American people, a freshly stamped criminal record with 34 felonies, and a recent threat of bloodshed and retribution should he come out victorious in the November election.

The Cable Guy has become a cult classic that's looked back at fondly by many fans. However, the film didn't set the box office on fire as much as other Jim Carrey movies from the era, seen at the time as a disappointment.
Released in 1996, The Cable Guy starred Carrey as a demented stalker who forces himself into the life of a customer, played by Matthew Broderick. Directed by Ben Stiller, the film had comedy legend Judd Apatow serving as a producer. Per Deadline, Broderick and Apatow reunited for a chat at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the two spoke about The Cable Guy. They joked about the exorbitant $20 million paycheck Carrey received for the film, with Broderick quipping of his own pay, "I got a Swiss cheese sandwich." However, Broderick said he actually felt sympathy for his co-star because of how much pressure the high pay put on him with the role.

We are in the season where campaigns flood the zone with fundraising pitches, with many sounding just a bit desperate.
A Trump campaign email today, though, came with the headline, “Haul Out The Guillotine!”

Supporters of Donald Trump woke up Wednesday morning to a startling email message from the former president: “Haul Out The Guillotine!”
Thankfully, it was not a declaration of intent by Trump, but a melodramatic fundraising pitch accusing his political opponents of wanting to behead him.
“Remember when that Sicko Kathy Griffin made the rounds parading my Beheaded head when I was President?!” the message read, referencing a widely condemned 2017 photo showing comedian Kathy Griffin holding up a fake, bloody decapitated head resembling Trump.
“The radical-left Cheered! Obama and Biden were Silent!

After former President Donald Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts, comedian Kathy Griffin, known as his longtime opponent, reacted with a joyous response.
Griffin, who has had a tumultuous history with the former president, took to social media to express her unbridled elation. In a post to X, the comedian exclaimed, “Tears of joy.”
Griffin was responding to a post from an X user who had written that the comedian was “targeted” by Trump, who is “finally getting in trouble for his mobster antics.”
“Thank you for saying that,” Griffin wrote. “It was awful, and he is awful. Tears Of Joy.”
The conviction comes after Griffin’s experience with the Trump administration in 2017 when the comedian faced widespread backlash for her controversial photo shoot, which depicted her holding a prop that resembled a decapitated Trump head. The incident led to a cascade of consequences, which included death threats, the loss...

Mark Hamill, Lynda Carter, George Takei and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among those in Hollywood who have taken to social media to share their reaction to Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in his New York criminal hush money trial.
A jury found the former president, who could face four years in prison or probation, guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. Throughout the five weeks of testimony, the jury heard from a former tabloid publisher, a Hollywood fixer, Trump’s former lawyer and a porn star.
Trump also became the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes. Sentencing is set for July 11.
Ralph, star on Abbott Elementary, quickly took to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, writing, “Former President Donald Trump has been found guilty of all 34 counts he faced. A cheer has erupted from Collect Pond Park.”

Kathy Griffin filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Randy Bick, back in December, and she’s dealing with it “one day at a time.” The comedian spoke with People at the Era Coalition Forward Women’s Equality Trailblazer Awards & Still Working 9 to 5 premiere on Wednesday, May 29, where she was asked how she’s handling her divorce. “One day at a time,” Griffin said. “One show at a time. I thank God for this tour. I thank God it happened. I’m just so grateful to be on tour, so it takes my mind off it.” In February, Griffin kicked off her first tour in six years, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the Ptsd-List, which is described as “a celebration of her resilience, humor, and the power of laughter to heal.” “The great Joan Rivers used to say, ‘The more your life is in the s***, the funny you are,...

Forty-four years after “9 to 5” became a cinematic sensation and rally cry for women’s rights, stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin reunited to celebrate the Hollywood premiere of the documentary “Still Working 9 to 5.”
The original comedy followed a trio of office workers conspiring to put a check on their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss, played by the late Dabney Coleman. In April, it was announced that Jennifer Aniston’s Echo Films was set to produce a “reimagining” of the movie for 20th Century Studios.
“We hope she has great success,” Tomlin told Variety. “It’s a hard nut to crack because the issues are somewhat different.”
“I hope she does it,” Fonda interjected.
“There’s still the undercurrent of the same kind of negativity towards females … [they’re] not easy-to-solve issues. So we’re very eager to see what they do,” Tomlin added.
