From Ghostface to a paranormal DJ? Deadline reports that the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) are teaming up with Paul Giamatti for a biopic about the late Art Bell. Best known as the founder and original host of Coast to Coast Am, Bell would field unscreened calls from all sorts of people, listening to stories of alien abduction, conspiracy theories, strange creatures, and just about everything you could imagine.
According to Deadline, several studios, including Universal, Amazon, and Warner Bros., are bidding on the Art Bell biopic. Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves are writing the script. This is a bit of a different project from the team that has given us Ready or Not, Abigail, and two Scream movies, but it has the potential to be quite interesting. Plus, I could watch Paul Giamatti do just about anything.

The David and Goliath tale gets a new epic retelling in the trailer for Prime Video’s House of David

It’s perhaps the greatest underdog story next to Rocky. Heck, it’s used as a phrase to describe a match-up that seems so unevenly matched. The David and Goliath tale is one of the most popular stories in the Bible. It tells of a normal man who went up against the fiercest warrior in the land in the biggest size difference imaginable. Amazon’s House of David is a series that will retell the story in eight epic episodes. Three episodes will premiere on February 27, with one episode weekly thereafter. The trailer has just been released.

Starfleet Academy is the newest Star Trek series coming to Paramount+. It will center around the first class of cadets in over 100 years as they work their way toward a career in Starfleet. Set in the 32nd century, the series will also bring back the emergency medical hologram [Robert Picardo] from Star Trek: Voyager as well as Tig Notaro from Star Trek: Discovery on a regular basis. Mary Wiseman [Sylvia Tilly] and Oded Fehr [Admiral Vance] will be recurring characters as well.
Now here's the exciting news. Starfleet Academy season one is two weeks away from completing production, according to Alex Kurtzman in an interview he gave Trekmovie. That means it could possibly release on Paramount before the end of 2025 as most series don't need nearly eleven months to complete post-production.
While we could see the first season this year, production for the second season is underway as the scripts are being written in the writers' room.

Since the Silent Era of cinema, monsters like werewolves, vampires, and aliens have given audiences some brilliant movies, with recent movies like Nosferatu and Blumhouse's The Wolf Man delivering some great terror. Using isolation to ramp up the fear, these films offer everything from jump scares to non-stop suspense and paranoia as audiences are left to watch as characters are hunted by creatures of the night.
Monsters can bring more to a story than simple horror, with many of the best monster movies exploring themes of morality, religion, and human emotion, using creatures as metaphors. From remakes of beloved B-movies to modern reinterpretations of influential literature, these movies helped make modern horror cinema the powerhouse that it is. For those who loved Blumhouse's modernization of The Wolf Man, there are plenty of other great films to watch.

Not every reimagining of The Mummy has been a success for Universal. In 2017, the studio released an action-heavy reboot starring Tom Cruise that flopped in theaters, and is now heading to Hulu next month.
Beginning Feb. 1, Hulu subscribers will be able to stream The Mummy, starring Cruise as a soldier of fortune who accidentally unearths the ancient tomb of entrapped Egyptian princess Ahmanet, played by Kingsman's Sofia Boutella. Released in 2017, The Mummy was intended to be the first installment in the Dark Universe, a proposed cinematic universe that was supposed to be Universal's answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, after The Mummy lost Universal roughly $95 million (despite grossing over $400 million worldwide), plans for future Dark Universe entries (like Johnny Depp's The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem's Frankenstein) were scrapped.

The fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery" began with a tantalizing premise. Captain Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) receives a Red Directive from a top Federation official, Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg), tasking her with a secret mission. There is an abandoned 800-year-old Romulan science vessel lost in deep space, and Burnham is sent to retrieve a mysterious object on board. It seems, however, that a pair of mysterious marauders named Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis) have found the object first. After some planet-hopping cat-and-mouse games, Captain Burnham retrieves the object back from them and finds that it is a journal, written by 24th-century scientists, that points to the location of an impossibly ancient technology built by the Progenitors.

A little over seven years after the last attempt to reboot the property failed, Blumhouse have revealed they're working on a new Mummy movie. The horror franchise first launched in 1932 and was part of the Universal Classic Monsters collection, with Boris Karloff portraying the titular entity before passing the reins on to Tom Tyler, Lon Chaney Jr. and Eddie Parker. The years since have seen two rebooted versions of The Mummy franchise, beginning with the Brendan Fraser-led movies from Stephen Sommers, which also included the Scorpion King spinoffs, and Tom Cruise's failed 2017 reboot meant to launch the interconnected Dark Universe.
The official Blumhouse Twitter page have unveiled that a new Mummy movie is in the works from writer/director Lee Cronin, who recently excelled with Evil Dead Rise. The post features a script page with the title scratched out featuring Cronin's credit with "Original Screenplay by" and both...

Starfleet Academy is most likely well over a year away from making its debut on Paramount+, but the buzz around the series has been ongoing since it was announced. That only intensified with the addition of Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti and Oscar winner Holly Hunter to the cast.
We don't know much about what Giamatti's character will be up to during his short tenure on the series' first season, but in a recent Threads selfie with Giamatti, another cast member, Robert Picardo, promised the actor's turn on the series wouldn't be something we'd forget. "He is an actor’s actor and will be memorable, I assure you, as our Season 1 super-villain on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on Paramount+… Stay tuned!" Picard wrote as a caption beneath the selfie. Star Trek has the ability to bring generations together. With each new series or film, the franchise affords itself a new viewer-base, not just through marketing, but through shared experiences. So much of the Star Trek fandom is passed down from parent to child, or from one older fan to a younger one.
The franchise has been able to thrive over the years because of the shared ability to experience Star Trek with one another. The fandom has been galvanized by that concept. Yet, it's not just the fandom that benefits from the fact that the older generation passes something down to the younger generation.
Those who make the shows and films we love so much do the same thing. Starting with The Next Generation, the first in the non-William Shatner-led Star Trek properties, the previous generation has always been there to lend a hand to the newer generation.

What Do We Know About the upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? More thank you may think. With casting announcements, rumors, and more, we know a lot of what is to come. So, let’s jump in!
The series is set in the 32nd Century.
The twelfth Star Trek series since Gene Roddenberry’s original CBS show debuted in 1966, Starfleet Academy is the sixth small screen entry in the franchise since the debut of Discovery in 2017. Overseen by franchise-runner Alex Kurtzman, the new series was co-created with Noga Landau, who created the four-season-long Nancy Drew series for The CW. In development since Kurtzman’s original deal with CBS back in 2018, the series has gone through many iterations and timelines before settling on the future setting used since Discovery’s third season.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a series that has a ton of potential behind it. Featuring major names like Holly Hunter, and Paul Giamatti and returning names from Star Trek like Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, and even Robert Picardo, the show has a ton of reasons to be excited. It's our first real look into the life and times of a Starfleet Cadet and set against the backdrop of a rebuilding federation, it seems very interesting.
Plus, now there's a renewed focus for Star Trek to promote a more optimistic version of the Federation and the future (Section 31 notwithstanding), so it's likely the showrunners for the show will follow Strange New Worlds' presentation more than not. Coupled that with the next era of Star Trek actors and actresses and you have yourself one heck of a series.
At least in theory. We're never sure if anything is going to be good or bad,...

Alonso Ruizpalacios’s “La Cocina” (English Title: The Kitchen), adapted from Arnold Wesker’s play The Kitchen, is a feverish live-wire immersion into a restaurant serving tourists at Times Square. Opening with the arrival of a young Mexican woman, Estella (Anna Diaz) seeking a cook’s job at the restaurant The Grill, there’s a note of anticipation tempered with grungy realism. But she’s not the primary character in the narrative, just an entry point. Quickly, the film swerves into one of the other cooks, Pedro (Raúl Briones), who shares a family history with Estella though initially he struggles to recall her. Their families have known each other since they were kids.
Pedro is a magnificent flirt, with an easy way of skidding around another’s sour mood by dialing up his casual humor and allure. In one of the most sexually bristling scenes, he pacifies his pregnant white American girlfriend,...

Set at a restaurant that caters to tourists in Times Square, Alonso Ruizpalacios’s La Cocina, adapted from Arnold Wesker’s 1957 play The Kitchen, revolves around Pedro (Raúl Briones), an undocumented Mexican line cook, and Julia (Rooney Mara), a white American working front of house. When $800 goes missing from the till, triggering an investigation by restaurant management, their love story derails. Throughout, Ruizpalacios allows the Grill to be both exactly what it is—a specific workplace with its own Kitchen Confidential-style rituals and pecking order—and a microcosm of American capitalism. “American” in the broadest sense since, as Pedro reminds us, “America is not a country.”
In an important scene, the Grill’s second-generation Mexican American manager, Luis (Eduardo Olmos), is interrogating Pedro, whom he suspects of having stolen the money to pay for the abortion that Julia wants and, coincidentally, would cost $800. While the intransigent line cook sidesteps Luis...

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has already been greenlit for a second season. Likely done by the folks at Paramount+ to cut down costs. There's hype around the show, absolutely, but to greenlight a show this early into development for a second season is usually done because A) the show is tracking that well, or B) they would rather fund a show that could be bad for two seasons as it'd be cheaper than canceling it after one and giving even more money to greenlight a whole new show.

Star Trek is set to debut a new show in either late 2025 or early 2026. The show is called Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and will not only feature a young cast of newcomers, but will be tentpoled around series lead Holly Hunter and main villain Paul Giamatti. They'll also feature returning stars like Oded Fehr, Robert Picardo and Tig Notaro.
It's set in the rebuilt Starfleet Academy of the 32nd century, not long after the events of Star Trek: Discovery came to a close. It's a continuation of that story, in a way and more characters from Discovery may make cameos in the Academy series. So there's potential for characters to keep crossing over.
It has the potential to be a fun and entertaining show, even if it's marketed to the CW/Teen demographic. Still, potential is one thing, proof of concept is another. We have no idea if Starfleet Academy is going to be good.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has the chance to reveal two important things that never made an appearance in Star Trek: Discovery. At the end of Discovery season 2, the USS Discovery traveled to the far future of the 32nd century, where the Federation was struggling to recover from the devastation caused by the Burn. In 3069, the Burn caused the destruction of most of the Federation's warp-capable ships. By the time Discovery arrived in 3189, only 38 worlds remained members of the Federation, whereas there had been 350 worlds at the Federation's peak.
When Discovery arrived at the 32nd-century Federation Headquarters, Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew caught a glimpse of the USS Voyager-j, the eleventh ship to bear that name. Burnham and Discovery's crew then set out to discover the cause of the Burn and work toward rebuilding Starfleet and the Federation. Thanks to Discovery's involvement, Earth and Ni'Var (formerly Vulcan) both rejoined the Federation,...

Throughout Star Trek's long history, the United Federation of Planets has faced terrifying and powerful enemies. Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise crew encountered numerous alien enemies throughout their voyages, but some proved to be more malevolent than others. While many villains from Star Trek: The Original Series only appeared in one episode, others, like the Klingons and the Romulans, became staples of the franchise. Although the Federation managed to achieve peace with some former enemies, others continue to threaten humanity's way of life.
Whether under the command of Captain Kirk, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) or others, every version of the Starship Enterprise often ends up on the front lines, facing the Federation's most formidable enemies. Sometimes this leaves the Enterprise and its crew as the only thing standing in the way of a devastating Federation takeover. The USS Discovery faces a similar problem...

There have been a lot of Star Trek shows coming out in the past few years, but few have captured hearts and minds like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This prequel series follows Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise, filling in the years before Captain James T. Kirk took over the ship in the original series. After experimenting with weightier storytelling in Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, Strange New Worlds signified a return to form for the franchise with its adventure-of-the-week episodes and lighter tone.
It's obvious that Paramount+ knows it's got a hit on its hands, because Strange New Worlds has already aired two seasons and has a third on the way in 2025. But that's not all! The show also got an early renewal for season 4 all the way back in April of 2024, so we've known for a while now that we've...
