Before she was an actor on Chicago Med and The Lincoln Lawyer, Yaya DaCosta was a runner-up on Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model, a reality series hosted and executive-produced by Tyra Banks. And DaCosta says she and Banks recently had a regenerative reunion that healed some of the “real trauma” of the show. The reality TV show burst onto the scene in 2003, with Tyra using her modeling skills to find fresh faces for the runway.

America’s Next Top Model ran for 22 seasons on The CW before moving to VH1 for the final two seasons.

Tyra not only created Antm, but she hosted the show for 21 seasons, with Rita Ora stepping in to help refresh the series on VH1.

In recent years, clips of Tyra being overly harsh and insensitive have surfaced as former contestants call out her treatment of them.

One example was Tyra telling a contestant, in a mean and mocking way, how she would never get a “covergirl” contract because of the gap in her teeth.

Tyra Banks owned up to some controversies surrounding her hit reality series America’s Next Top Model.

The 51-year-old supermodel launched the show in 2003. It ran for 24 seasons with Tyra serving as the main judge for all but one.

In 2020, the show went through a reckoning online with some viewers calling out troubling moments, including a photoshoot where contestants had their skin darkened to appear “biracial.”

Although Tyra acknowledged that the show sometimes got it wrong, she also praised it for breaking ground.

Tyra Banks didn’t always “get it right” on “America’s Next Top Model,” she told attendees at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, adding: “I said some dumb s–t.”

Banks was the event’s first Luminary Spotlight honoree on Feb. 27.

“Over 20 years ago I created a show called ‘America’s Next Top Model’,” she began her speech. “And you guys have no idea how hard we fought to bring the diversity to that television show at a time when it didn’t exist; to show different beauties at a time when the world was like, ‘What? You casting that?’ A time when people in the fashion industry were telling me, ‘You putting the girls from the hood on your show?”

“I was like, ‘Why can the girl from the trailer park become a supermodel but the girl that’s chilin’ in the park in the hood can’t?’” she added.

David St. John, an executive producer on such popular reality TV series as America’s Next Top Model and I Am Jazz, died December 19 of pancreatic cancer at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. He was 56.

His death was announced today by UTA.

St. John was the executive producer of TLC’s I Am Jazz for its entire 2015-2020 run, a series that followed the journey of transgender teen Jazz Jennings and won a GLAAD Media Award. In 2021 he exec produced The Ts Madison Experience, a reality series chronicling the career of Black, trans woman talk show host Ts Madison.

St. John launched his career as an assistant at MTV, moving up to story producer on the network’s 2002 series Taildaters. In 2007 he became a supervising producer on America’s Next Top Model and would co-exec produce more than 100 episodes of the Tyra Banks competition series.

Vin Diesel recently announced that the final scenes of Fast X: Part 2 will be filmed in Los Angeles, marking a return to the city where the franchise first began 25 years ago. The “Hollywood Squares” promotion continues as CBS announced on Thursday that it will be giving the hit game show a special week-long daytime birth with encore episodes airing in the daypart during the week of January 27-31, replacing previously scheduled repeat episodes of “The Price is Right” in the 2:00 p.m. Et/1:00 p.m. Ct/Pt slot vacated by the now-canceled talk show “The Talk,” which concluded its 15 season run last month. Vin Diesel announced that “Fast X: Part 2” will finish shooting in Los Angeles, the city that provided the setting for the first film in the long-running franchise, as a way to bolster a local economy that’s been hit hard by devastating wildfires.

“Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home,” Diesel declared on social media.

On Instagram, Diesel said that Jordana Brewster, his co-star in the series, reached out to him and urged him to press Universal to move the rest of the filming to Los Angeles, saying that the city “needs it now more than ever.” It’s unclear how much more of “Fast X: Part 2” is left to shoot. The film does not currently have a release date.

Following its series premiere last week Thursday and a special preview following the AFC Divisional Playoff game on Sunday, CBS has announced that “Hollywood Squares” will now air Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. starting Wednesday, January 29. The final Thursday installment of the series will air on Thursday, January 23 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt.

Hosted by Nate Burleson, with Drew Barrymore (“The Drew Barrymore Show”) appearing as the center square, “Hollywood Squares” is a primetime revival of the iconic game show, and thus far has performed well for CBS, giving the network good reason to utilize the series as the lead-in to its Wednesday game night programming block after it was originally scheduled to join the night in the 10:00 p.m. Et/Pt slot.

The Wednesday lineup will now kick off at 8:00 p.m. with “Hollywood Squares,” followed by all-new episodes of “The Price is Right at Night” at 9:00 p.

Tyra Banks opened up about losing her home in the recent L.A. wildfires that have displaced thousands of Los Angeles County residents.

The former Dancing with the Stars host says she learned her house had burned down while working in Australia.

“I lost my house,” Banks said on Australia’s morning show Sunrise. “I haven’t really talked about it, but, yeah, I have.”

She continued, “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me. I feel like there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth that, yeah, we lost our house.”

While appearing on the Australian morning show Sunrise on Monday, the model shared publicly for the first time that her house was one of those destroyed in the fires that ignited earlier in January in L.A.

“I lost my house,” Banks said. “I haven’t really talked about it, but, yeah, I have.”

Banks also explained why she hasn’t shared her loss publicly until now. “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me,” she said. “I feel like there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth that, yeah, we lost our house.”

She said she learned that she lost her home, which she shares with her partner, while they were in Australia.

Tyra Banks is one of many who lost their home to one of the recent fires in Los Angeles.

It officially premiered on Thursday. It features the classic format: a nine-by-nine grid of large squares that creates a giant tic-tac-toe board.

Actress and daytime talk show host Drew Barrymore is the current resident of the famed center square.
