Innocence of Muslims producer questioned by police in Los Angeles [See previous article: "Desert Warrior / Innocence of Muslims Director Alan Roberts: Veteran of '70s Softcore Porn."] Unlike the film's performers, whose faces are visible to all who bothered watching the videos uploaded on YouTube, an unidentified man assumed to be Nakoula Basseley Nakoula had his face fully covered while leaving his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Cerritos to be interviewed by Los Angeles Police Department probation officers. Nakoula had been convicted of bank fraud three years ago and had been banned from accessing the Internet. Nakoula -- while still passing for the Israeli entrepreneur Sam Bacile -- also referred to Islam as "a cancer, period," and called his Islamophobic video "a political movie. The U.S. lost a lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're fighting with ideas." Among the "ideas" found in Innocence of Muslims are modern-day Muslim fanatics killing an unarmed Christian woman.

In the latest twist to the Innocence of Muslims saga -- the amateurishly made anti-Islamic film that set off anti-u.S. riots worldwide that claimed the life of Ambassador Christopher Stevens -- several websites are claiming the director listed in the film credits as Alan Roberts is the same Alan Roberts who helmed a number of low-budget films throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s. IMDb lists Roberts' credits, which include softcore sexploitation fare like The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood (1980) and Young Lady Chatterley (1977), the action movie Karate Cop (1991) and the erotic thriller Save Me (1994), starring Harry Hamlin. Yet another twist in the production of "Innocence of Muslims," the anti-Islam film that has led to riots around the world. Gawker reports that the movie's director is Alan Roberts, a man known best for creating softcore porn films.

Robert's earlier work includes titles like "The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood," "Young Lady Chatterly" and "The Sexpert."

So what was the alleged director doing on the set of a film that would go on to inflame the masses? A number of Gawker's sources suggest Roberts had no idea that the movie would be so political in nature. As previously reported, many members of the cast and crew were duped into thinking they were making a historical film, as much of the dialogue was dubbed over after production ended.

A posting in the online archives of Backstage offers strong evidence that the actors cast in "The Innocence of Muslims" were misled by the film's producers about the project's content and intentions. The original casting call for "Desert Warrior" listed the director as "Alan Roberts" and the producer as "Sam Bassiel," a slight variation on the names "Sam Bacile" and "Sam Bossil."

The name "Sam Bacile" has since been proven to be an alias for Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a Los Angeles-based, 55-year-old Copic Christian with a record of previous felonies and aliases. Federal court papers listed Nakoula's numerous aliases as Nicola Bacily, Erwin Salameh, Amal Nada; Daniel K. Caresman, and P.J Tobacco, among others.

Though Bacile's identity is now closer to being verified, cast members are claiming that "Alan Roberts" -- or whatever his true name may be -- was also on set. According to another actor and crew...
