Since 2000, fans have had a wealth of modern medical dramas to choose from. From TV shows Grey's Anatomy to more recent shows like The Pitt, these dramas allow audiences to explore the highs and lows of the American healthcare system from the comfort of their own homes. Thus, these shows have managed to break out of their niches and have become some of the most popular shows of the era.
Yet, because audiences are surrounded by such big hitters, audiences tend to forget about older medical dramas. Although the 20th century wasn't plagued by Covid-19 or other serious illnesses, this era focused more on cultural issues and how they impacted the wider population. As such, it could be argued that the most powerful medical dramas are from the 20th century.

Rare is it that we get a new cinematic feast from Academy Award-winning writer/director Spike Jonze and while today’s offerings may not be a new feature film, his new Apple Air Pods 4 commercial starring Pedro Pascal is sure to satiate fans for the time being. Set along a lively city block, the advertisement sees Pascal whisked from the cold doldrums of his winter existence and dropped into a music-filled fantasia bursting with bright red and yellow flowers. Highlighting the power of these new Air Pods to help escape everyday life, Pascal is seen dancing through the streets and mouthing along to the lyrics, as if part of his own musical. Watch the new commercial below.
Though many are aware of Jonze’s films, including “Being John Malkovich,” “Adaptation,” and “Her,” for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, even more people are likely to have seen...

By the 1960s, director Alfred Hitchcock had been making films for decades. A holdover from the silent era, Hitchcock saw major changes in the film industry happen in real-time. And he was able to weather these hurdles to great success. However, in the mid-20th century, movies were changing once again and Hitchcock's films were perceived by some critics as becoming formulaic. Even though Hitchcock was still attracting some of the biggest talent of the day, he was certainly staying well within his niche. On top of his film career, the directorial icon was also juggling a hit TV by this point.
In 1966, when Hitchcock released Torn Curtain, he was entering another stage of filmmaking in the industry.

Roger Ebert was one of the most prominent voices in the movie industry for decades. A film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, Ebert wrote thousands of film reviews from 1967 until he died in 2013. Filmmakers waited with bated breath for his reviews of their films while readers trusted his every word when deciding which film to go see. Ebert influenced generations of critics and moviegoers not only through his prose but also by helping draw attention to certain independent and international films as well as upstart filmmakers.
Ebert has reviewed films of just about any genre, so it's only natural he'd have reviewed plenty of comic book films along the way. While Ebert reviewed most of them negatively, there were a handful of comic book films he truly enjoyed, giving nine of them a perfect four stars out of four along with a couple that fell short with three and a half stars.

Perfect sitcom scenes are hard to find, but not impossible. In fact, there are some sitcom moments that have lived for decades in the audience's mind. While some comedy shows age poorly, others manage to stay ahead of their time and only become better as they get older.
Classics like the Dick Van Dyke Show are as hilarious today as they were the moment they aired. However, newer sitcoms like The Office are also known for their outstanding and quotable scenes. Whether people grew up watching these shows or have access to them now on streaming services, these sitcom scenes are amazing because of their great humor and clever narrative that doesn't rely on poor taste or offensive jokes.

Wicked, Conclave, and Nosferatu took top honors at the 29th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards (aka the Excellence in Production Design Awards) Saturday. Rachael Harris hosted the show from the InterContinental Ballroom in Los Angeles.
The Art Directors Guild divides its top film prizes into Period, Contemporary, and Fantasy Feature categories, which went to the Oscar-nominated production designers for Nosferatu, Conclave, and Wicked, respectively. Since the inception of these awards, the winner of one of those three has gone on to win the Best Art Direction/Production Design Oscar in 19 of the 28 years and 10 of the past 11 years. The three films will go up against Dune: Part Two and The Brutalist next month for the production design Academy Award, with Wicked considered not only the frontrunner but a heavily-favored one at that.
Nosferatu won top Period Feature over fellow nominees A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist, Gladiator II, and Saturday Night.

From ‘I Love Lucy’ to ‘Cheers,’ this streamer is a goldmine for classic TV fans.
I love comedy—and sitcoms in particular. There’s something about the canned laughter that somehow makes everything funnier. Or maybe it’s the predictable “set-up, set-up, joke” rhythms of the writing. Or maybe, in a world that seems more complicated every day, it’s just nice to wrap up all your problems in 22 minutes. Whether you grew up watching them on a boxy TV or you’re discovering them for the first time, classic sitcoms are the ultimate comfort watch. And if you’re looking for the best streamer to watch them all, in my opinion, there’s one clear winner: Pluto TV. Let’s get into why it’s the best place to stream classic sitcoms from the golden age of TV comedy.

In 2006, Casino Royale kicked off a new era of James Bond movies that would last all the way through 2021's No Time To Die, when Daniel Craig would officially retire as 007. So far as we know, producers are no closer to casting a new James Bond; apparently there's internal trouble at the studios. While we wait for them to sort things out, the YouTube channel Ron South has posted a bunch of videos of now-famous actors who auditioned to play James Bond for Casino Royale way back when. They include heavy hitters like Avatar star Sam Worthington, The Boys breakout Antony Starr, and the internet's favorite hunky nerd Henry Cavill.
Let's look at Sam Worthington's audition first. All three of these guys audition with the same scene, from 1995's Goldeneye, which starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. In this scene, Bond is playing a flirty game of Baccarat with femme fatale Xenia Onatopp,...

Carl Reiner's 1961 sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was immensely popular over its five seasons, and won 15 Emmys in its lifetime. Like several sitcoms of its ilk, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was a metanarrative autobiography about a character named Rob Petrie (Van Dyke) who was a comedy writer for an in-universe variety show called "The Alan Brady Show." Petrie, from appearances, is an amalgam of Van Dyke and Reiner. Indeed, in the show's original pilot -- back when it was going to be called "Head of the Family" -- Reiner played Rob Petrie himself. The show was more or less a common domestic drama beyond that, with many stories springing from Rob's relationship with his wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), or their son Richard Robert Oscar Sam Edward Benjamin Ulysses David "Ritchie" Petrie (Larry Mathews). The show featured wacky buddies, obsequious bosses, and other broad character types that,...

Exclusive: John Mulaney is getting ready to launch his live variety talk show at Netflix.
The comedian is set to kick off his show – the follow-up to his successful and beautifully chaotic Everybody’s in LA series – on March 12. Everybody Live with John Mulaney will run for 12 weeks.
Deadline understands that Mulaney received a two-season order from the streamer, which greenlit the show last year. The move means that unless something goes horribly wrong, the Baby J comedian will be back for a second run of the live show.
We also hear that Ashley Edens, who was co-showrunner of Everybody’s in LA, will serve as exec producer of the show alongside Mulaney. Edens recently served as showrunner for Fox’s The Real Full Monty and has exec produced specials such as Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry, Dick Van Dyke’s 98 Years of Magic and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

Dick Van Dyke is almost a centenarian, as the movie and TV star will reach his milestone 100th birthday in less than a year. Opening up about his age in a new interview, the beloved funnyman shared his secret to life longevity.
Van Dyke made the comments on Ted Danson's podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name (per THR). He said that staying so spry as he approaches age 100 comes down to maintaining a consistent exercise routine. This means working out three times per week, a habit that he has kept up with, even after turning 99 in December.

Mary Tyler Moore “had gone from being the most popular woman in America to being a has-been in three, four years,” according to Dick Van Dyke Show producer Bill Persky in the documentary Being Mary Tyler Moore. After the sitcom’s cancellation in 1966, Moore couldn’t find a successful vehicle for her talents, in part because she was stuck in the collective consciousness as Laura Petrie.
Stage and film projects were unsuccessful. And “when the show was over, I could tell the network just saw her as the wife who supported,” said Dick Van Dyke this week on Ted Danson’s Where Everyone Knows Your Name podcast. “She wasn’t getting anything from the network.”
But Van Dyke still had a deal with CBS for a series of one-hour specials. Persky pitched the comic actor on a reunion show, both for ratings and “because I think Mary could use it.

Following back-to-back misfires with Golden Globe hosts Jo Koy and Jerrod Carmichael, it was Nikki Glaser‘s chance to take the reins of Hollywood’s biggest party on Sunday.
During her 10-minute monologue (watch above), the stand-up comedian walked a fine line between poking fun of the A-list celebrities in attendance and giving them their proverbial flowers for making it to the Beverly Hilton as either nominees, presenters, or guests.
She started off with a joke about how the event should really be called “Ozempic’s biggest night.” She let everyone know that she was not there to roast them, because they were so “powerful” they could do anything … “except tell the country who to vote for.” She asked Ariana Grande to “hold [her] finger,” a joke to the ongoing Wicked press tour between Grande and Cynthia Erivo. “My boyfriend’s boyfriend really loved Wicked,” Glaser later teased.

The Golden Girls is a beloved and celebrated sitcom that centers on the day-to-day life of four older women living together in Miami. The cast consists of sultry Southerner Blanche (Rue McClanahan), sweet but dim-witted Rose (Betty White), witty and sarcastic Dorothy (Bea Arthur), and her feisty Sicilian mother Sophia (Estelle Getty). The all-star ensemble brings the laughs in the most mundane and absurd situations.
Premiering in 1985, The Golden Girls ran for seven seasons and snagged six consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series. But even the most skilled writers have to reach to keep a series feeling fresh for a hundred and seventy-seven episodes. As a result, the ladies' antics are always hilarious but sometimes pretty illogical.
Blanche Nearly Bankrupts Rose's Hometown Season 6, Episode 3: "If at Last, You Do Succeed"
Blanche buys a box of Rose's old things and discovers a stack of war bonds printed in Rose's hometown of St.

The Golden Globes are the first big event of the 2025 awards season, giving out awards to the best films and TV shows of 2024, though the ceremony has always been much less of a draw than many of the other awards shows. While the most important aspect of the ceremony is, of course, which film and TV projects will take home the most awards, another very important part of the ceremony is the host, and how they will shape how the show goes throughout the night.
The question of the continued importance of the Golden Globes when the Oscars are so dominant in the awards season remains, but they are still leading the charge as the first event that defines how the next few months of ceremonies may go. With the 2025 Oscar nominees not even announced yet, everyone is looking to this event to see how the films of the year are generally perceived by voters,...

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 features not one but two Jim Carreys, who plays the iconic villain Ivo Robotnik and the character's grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik. The stunt has been positively received by fans and critics alike, and it feels like it was meant to be from the start. But was it? Sonic the Hedgehog 3 writers Josh Miller and Pat Casey spoke to MovieWeb about the development process for the film and revealed how they landed on the decision to have Carrey act opposite himself. "There were a lot of permutations of how Gerald was going to be worked in," said Miller, adding:
"Was it going to be like it is in the game where he's all like flashbacks and messages he left recorded, you know, for Shadow, or would he be in the present? If he's in the present, in what way, and what does that mean?"
Pat Casey added to that,...

In Spider-Man’s corner of the Marvel Universe, Mary Jane Watson has had Peter Parker’s back through his many ups and downs in the comic space while consistently dealing with the consequences of his heroic alter ego in both her personal and eventual superhero life. Inspired by the real-life actress Ann-Margret Olsson, Mary Jane shares more than this Hollywood starlet's good looks and sense of style, with her character owing practically everything to Ann-Margret simply existing.
Technically making her debut in a face-obscuring cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man #25, it wasn’t until 1966’s The Amazing Spider-Man #42, by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., that Mary Jane made her presence known after she memorably introduced herself to Peter with the iconic line, “Face it, Tiger… you just hit the jackpot.”

Do you think The Good Wife writers knew they had a fan-favorite character on their hands when they created Elsbeth Tascioni? The love for her is great and not going anywhere anytime soon.
With the show’s second season at the halfway mark, it seems like a good time to say that Season 2 is even better than Season 1. Let me explain.
Elsbeth Season 1 spent a lot of time introducing characters with a new detective every episode all the way through the first half of the season. That’s not an issue for Elsbeth Season 2.

The series has been able to focus more on the story rather than world-building, bringing back guests from Elsbeth Season 1. Even the fake reality show Lavish Ladies got a shout-out.

On December 13, 1925, one of the world’s greatest comic actors was born. Dick Van Dyke‘s Missouri family was of modest means, but the young man decided early to carve out a career on show business as a comedian. A 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' remake is in the early stages of development. The 1968 musical classic, which starred Dick Van Dyke, 99, as the crackpot inventor Caractacus Potts, was adapted from a children's book by James Bond creator Ian Fleming. And, according to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios and Eon Productions – who are responsible for bringing the Bond movies to the big screen – are set to remake the beloved film about the adventures of the titular old race car/magical flying machine. As of yet, there have been no casting announcements for the new version. It's not the first time there has been talk of the remake as, in 2008, it was reported that Bond producer Michael G. Wilson was considering making a new version of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', and it seems the plans will come to fruition with Wilson collaborating with his sister Barbara Broccoli on the remake.

There are Elsbeth episodes, and then there is this pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat, eyes-wide, and can’t-look-away masterpiece of an episode. Hands down the best of the series.
While the show is known for its lightness and general wrapping things up in a nice and neat little bow, “One Angry Woman” gave viewers a crash course in what this show is capable of.
Elsbeth continues to raise the stakes and keep things fresh in exciting ways that not even die-hard fans can anticipate, yours truly included. Then again, it doesn’t hurt to play against the love of your life.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 7 introduced Micheal Emerson’s killer, Judge Milton, in the most exhilarating way. Not to mention a giant easter egg from Emerson’s previous and most prominent role in Evil.
