The number of familiar faces that will be seen in Dexter: Resurrectioncontinues to grow. The upcoming series, which will serve as a new sequel for Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, will arrive on Showtime and Paramount+ this summer.

Per Deadline, it's been revealed that actor Jimmy Smits has joined Dexter: Resurrection to reprise his role as Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado. In the original Dexter, Smits made his debut as Miguel in the show's third season. Taking a page from Dexter, Miguel ended up becoming a murderous vigilante himself, though he didn't abide by the "Code" that Dexter strongly believes in. By the end of the season, Dexter had killed Miguel, though the character would remain one of the most memorable of the original series' run.

It's been three years since we last saw Michael C. Hall as our beloved vigilante serial killer in Dexter: New Blood, and while he made a brief appearance at the beginning of Original Sin, Dexter: Resurrection will feature his full-time return to the character first made famous in the novels by Jeff Lindsay. This time around, Hall will be joined by a lot of fresh names, but we now know of another familiar face from the original series that will also be along for the ride: Jimmy Smits.

Per Deadline, Smits will reprise his role of Miguel Prado, despite Dexter killing him in the Season 3 episode "The Damage a Man Can Do." At first a friend to Dexter who knew of his Dark Passenger, Prado's own lust for revenge clouded his decision-making as things progressed, leading to the Assistant District Attorney finding himself wrapped in plastic on Dexter's kill table.

Lithgow starred as serial killer Arthur Mitchell, better known as the Trinity Killer, in the fourth season of “Dexter” and made a cameo in “Dexter: New Blood.” Smits played Season 3 antagonist Miami Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado.

Both characters were killed by Dexter, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come back to haunt him.

Currently in production in New York, the new limited series is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan alongside David Zayas as Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and David Magidoff as Teddy Reed.

Peter Dinklage will play the season’s main villain, Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist, with Uma Thurman as Charley, a former Special Ops officer who serves as his right-hand woman.

For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection heading for a June premiere. Filming on Dexter: Resurrection is currently underway – and Dexter isn’t the only one being resurrected for this show. As you probably remember, the cast of the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection series – which has been in production since January – is getting bigger. We have already reported about some major names from the acting world joining the series, either in new or returning roles, and the fans really have something to look forward to.

But, if you thought that it was all over, we have some great news for you as two beloved characters have been confirmed for a return in Dexter: Resurrection, and the names are amazing!

The first character has already been speculated to return, and it is Arthur Miller, also known as the Trinity Killer. Miller is portrayed by acting legend John Lithgow, who is thus returning to the role that earned him an Emmy Award, Critics’ Choice Award, and a SAG Award as well as a Golden Globe nomination.

The 2021 revival series Dexter: New Blood ended with everyone's favorite serial killer being apparently murdered by his son, Harrison. However, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the shooting and was rushed to the hospital, where the emergency room doctors worked their magic on him. "I've experienced death so many times, but never my own," Michael C. Hall's titular character said in voice-over. "Ahh, a beating heart. I'll take it."

That brings us to Dexter: Resurrection, which has a release date of Summer 2025 on Paramount+ and Showtime. Production began in January 2025 in New York, with Hall back as the former blood spatter analyst who's now living on the run after being outed as a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Of course, John Lithgow wins the award for the best guest star on Dexter. It’s impossible to forget his menacing character The Trinity Killer. The same goes for other high-profile stars who appeared on one or more seasons, like Keith Carradine, Julia Stiles, Colin Hanks, Mark Pellegrino, Jimmy Smits, and Yvonne Strahovski.

But beyond these few, there were many stars who had guest roles on the show, some even for multiple seasons, that fans who originally watched almost 20 years ago may have forgotten about. Lynne Marie Stewart, the actress known for roles in Pee-wee’s Playhouse and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has died. She was 78.

Elvira star Cassandra Peterson was one of several to pay tribute to the actress Friday on Instagram after coming up together at The Groundlings in Los Angeles and appearing in Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) and The Elvira Show (1993) together.

Stephen King has become somewhat famous for his contribution to horror literature. Thanks to a long series of terrifying novels, King has become a genre unto himself, authoring tales like "Carrie," "Christine," "It," "Pet Sematary," "The Stand," "The Dead Zone," "Firestarter," "Cujo," "Misery," and dozens of others. He often tells tales of alcoholic authors (something he admits he can relate to) or other not-entirely-redeemable protagonists dealing with supernatural evil in one for or another. King is widely beloved for his storytelling acumen, and his dogged pursuit of his own unusual interests. For the most part, horror is where his heart has lived, and he still writes ghost stories and tales of regret to this day. 

But perhaps King should stay far away from science fiction. When the antagonist of a Stephen King story is a malevolent spirit, a killer dog, a demonic living corpse, or a child-eating clown, he is in his wheelhouse.

It was a tame throwback Sunday at the Emmy Awards tonight with blasts from the past taking center stage in a show seemingly longing for another era.

Besides the unexpected and well deserved Best Comedy win for Hacks, the show was full of predictable trophies for FX’s Shōgun and The Bear and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer. Along with anticipated victories for True Detective: Night Country’s Jodie Foster, The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki and Hacks’ Jean Smart, Sunday’s nostalgia-heavy, nearly three-hour 76th Primetime Emmy Awards was punctuated by a crowd-pleasing West Wing 25th anniversary reunion, featuring Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Dulé Hill.

Even so, there was not much new to be said there on this small screen display of back to the future.

The West Wing’s President Bartlet and his staff reunited at the Emmys.

The not-so-secret reunion saw Martin Sheen, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney and Richard Schiff appear in a replica of the Oval Office before presenting best drama series.

Sheen opened by saying, “From 1999 to 2006 I had the honor of playing the President of the United States on an extraordinary series created by Aaron Sorkin and produced by John Wells.”

“The name of that series was The West Wing, and we all had the honor of serving your administration,” added Hill.

Janney said, “It’s hard to believe that 25 years ago, Aaron and the writers actually had to use their imaginations to create interesting plot lines for The West Wing.”

Schiff replied, “Unlike today, where story lines can be plucked right off the news, storylines that writers would have deemed a bit far-fetched, if not utterly ridiculous 25 years ago.

A night of nostalgia, a Baby Reindeer sweep and an incredible launching pad for the upcoming seasons of The Bear and Shōgun made up the 76th annual Primetime Emmys on Sunday.

While the Family Levy didn’t exactly rock the L.A.’s Peacock Theater as the first father-and-son hosts, breakout moments came courtesy of TV’s old guard and Jodie Foster’s first Emmy win.

After ripping up a fake envelope, she opens the real one and announces an absolute jawdropper of a result: Max’s Hacks, for its third season, has pulled off a massive upset over the second season of FX’s The Bear, the most-nominated comedy of the year and, this year, already the comedy with the most wins in a single season. It’s hard not to see this as a statement from TV Academy members that, as great as The Bear is — and it is truly great — this award is intended for shows that actually make people laugh, which season 2 of The Bear did not do much of, and which season 3, which was rolling out during voting for season 2, really did not do much of.

Hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the main ceremony caps off a television year dominated by “Shōgun,” which already set a record for most Emmys by a drama series in a single year when it nearly swept the Creative Arts Emmys with 14. The FX drama, led by Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, will attempt to beef up its overall take when it competes with eight nominations in six top categories: drama series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, writing and directing. TheWrap’s awards guru Steve Pond boldly predicts “Shōgun” will go six for six on Sunday.
