The number of familiar faces that will be seen in Dexter: Resurrectioncontinues to grow. The upcoming series, which will serve as a new sequel for Dexter and Dexter: New Blood, will arrive on Showtime and Paramount+ this summer.
Per Deadline, it's been revealed that actor Jimmy Smits has joined Dexter: Resurrection to reprise his role as Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado. In the original Dexter, Smits made his debut as Miguel in the show's third season. Taking a page from Dexter, Miguel ended up becoming a murderous vigilante himself, though he didn't abide by the "Code" that Dexter strongly believes in. By the end of the season, Dexter had killed Miguel, though the character would remain one of the most memorable of the original series' run.

It's been three years since we last saw Michael C. Hall as our beloved vigilante serial killer in Dexter: New Blood, and while he made a brief appearance at the beginning of Original Sin, Dexter: Resurrection will feature his full-time return to the character first made famous in the novels by Jeff Lindsay. This time around, Hall will be joined by a lot of fresh names, but we now know of another familiar face from the original series that will also be along for the ride: Jimmy Smits.
Per Deadline, Smits will reprise his role of Miguel Prado, despite Dexter killing him in the Season 3 episode "The Damage a Man Can Do." At first a friend to Dexter who knew of his Dark Passenger, Prado's own lust for revenge clouded his decision-making as things progressed, leading to the Assistant District Attorney finding himself wrapped in plastic on Dexter's kill table.

John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits will reprise their “Dexter” roles in “Dexter: Resurrection.”
Lithgow starred as serial killer Arthur Mitchell, better known as the Trinity Killer, in the fourth season of “Dexter” and made a cameo in “Dexter: New Blood.” Smits played Season 3 antagonist Miami Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado.
Both characters were killed by Dexter, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come back to haunt him.
Currently in production in New York, the new limited series is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan alongside David Zayas as Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and David Magidoff as Teddy Reed.
Peter Dinklage will play the season’s main villain, Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist, with Uma Thurman as Charley, a former Special Ops officer who serves as his right-hand woman.

For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection heading for a June premiere. Filming on Dexter: Resurrection is currently underway – and Dexter isn’t the only one being resurrected for this show. Deadline reports that Jimmy Smits and John Lithgow, who played Miguel Prado in Dexter season 3 and Arthur Mitchell (a.

Dexter Morgan is alive!
The 2021 revival series Dexter: New Blood ended with everyone's favorite serial killer being apparently murdered by his son, Harrison. However, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the shooting and was rushed to the hospital, where the emergency room doctors worked their magic on him. "I've experienced death so many times, but never my own," Michael C. Hall's titular character said in voice-over. "Ahh, a beating heart. I'll take it."
That brings us to Dexter: Resurrection, which has a release date of Summer 2025 on Paramount+ and Showtime. Production began in January 2025 in New York, with Hall back as the former blood spatter analyst who's now living on the run after being outed as a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

At this point, fans of the ‘Dexter’-verse aren’t surprised when news emerges that dead people are being resurrected. John Lithgow is preparing to play Albus Dumbledore in the new Harry Potter TV series. The actor recently told Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett on the Smartless podcast that he’s “halfway through the second” novel right now as he’s “behind everybody” when it comes to knowledge of the Harry Potter franchise. That said, Lithgow doesn’t think the job will be “that hard.“
“The overall concept of this entire reboot of Harry Potter is an entire season is devoted to a single novel,” Lithgow said. “You know, Dumbledore is — he’s kind of the nuclear weapon. He only goes on very, very occasionally. I don’t think it’s gonna be that hard a job, and, we’ll just go back and forth.“
When asked about the filming schedule, Lithgow said, “I honestly don’t know. I mean, I was in England for eight months for...

In the 1990s, one name dominated TV miniseries: Stephen King. At the time, King had become the wealthiest writer in history, author of such popular novels as Misery, Carrie, It, The Stand and dozens more. While some of his titles -- Carrie, The Shining -- found homes on the big screen, many more became celebrated TV miniseries, attracting millions of viewers. In 1993, King and ABC partnered to add one more to the miniseries roster: The Tommyknockers.
Based on King’s 1987 novel of the same name -- one of King’s least-favorite of his own works -- The Tommyknockers attracted a wide audience, but earned mixed to negative reviews. Today, it has a reputation as one of the weakest of all King’s adaptations. Viewed more than 30 years later, however, The Tommyknockers stands out as an unusual King story. Quick LinksReva's Character Arc in Obi-Wan Kenobi Was Incredibly ControversialWhy Reva's Character Still Doesn't WorkWhat Happened to Reva in the Star Wars Franchise?
Obi-Wan Kenobiremains one of the more controversial Disney+ series in the Star Wars canon even three years after its release. Fans campaigned for the project for years, demanding one more adventure for Ewan McGregor's destitute Jedi Master. However, the final product proved to be disappointing for many Star Wars fans, who praised McGregor's performance but found the overall series rather lackluster. While much better received than The Book of Boba Fett and The Acolyte, the Obi-Wan-centric series could never live up to more popular Disney+ projects like Andor and The Mandalorian.
One of the biggest controversies surrounding Obi-Wan Kenobi was Moses Ingram's character. The Queen's Gambit actress plays Reva Semander, the Third Sister of the Imperial Inquisitorious who serves as a major antagonist in the series.

It should surprise no one that Bad Bunny decided to drop the long-anticipated music video for “LA MuDANZA” on his 31st birthday. The song is a riotous salsa track that — like one of DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’ other mega hits, “Baile INoLVIDABLE” — borrows from the salsa gorda era of the genre. It’s deeply personal, too: It opens with a spoken word snippet of Benito retelling the story of how his parents came of age in the Nineties, crossed paths serendipitously, and eventually had the kid who is now an international superstar.

While Andor gave Tony Gilroy free reign to explore the Rebel Alliance's origins, he will ensure the final season adheres to key moments in Star Wars history.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gilroy talked about what lies in store for Andor's sprawling cast and how the lead-up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will chart their growth over four years of Rebel and Imperial conflict. Regarding Mon Mothma's transition from Imperial Senate opposition to future leader of the Rebellion, he acknowledged, "Canonically, there's the moment where she leaves the Senate, and that's in our timeline. So we're definitely dealing with that, but I would say, of all the characters in the show, of all the hellacious things that people go through, and all of the difficulties and hardships, I don't think anybody has a harder road than she does. Of course, John Lithgow wins the award for the best guest star on Dexter. It’s impossible to forget his menacing character The Trinity Killer. The same goes for other high-profile stars who appeared on one or more seasons, like Keith Carradine, Julia Stiles, Colin Hanks, Mark Pellegrino, Jimmy Smits, and Yvonne Strahovski.
But beyond these few, there were many stars who had guest roles on the show, some even for multiple seasons, that fans who originally watched almost 20 years ago may have forgotten about. In some cases, these actors didn’t get their big breakout role, or at least the role that fans of this generation know them for, until after they were on Dexter. But for fans watching or re-watching now, it’s a pleasant surprise to see them pop up.

As a prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin is chock-full of Easter Eggs from the original series Dexter. This includes the most obvious ones, including all the main characters that reappear, played by different actors to portray them as younger. The series tells the origin story of Dexter Morgan and his first kills under the guidance of his father Harry, and his Code.

Over the years, Warner Bros. has tried to monetize its catalog of older movies through different subscription streaming services, including FilmStruck — which it shut down less than a year after it launched in 2018.
Now, Warner Bros. Entertainment has quietly taken a new approach to bringing its content to YouTube to farm its film catalog for digital ad revenue.
Since the start of 2025, the company has released 31 movies on Warner Bros.-owned YouTube channels, all available for free. The movies include ads, unless you are a YouTube Premium subscriber. Warner Bros. has published a YouTube playlist with the free movies, available at this link.
The titles are varied and cut across genres, with some films on the list dating back decades. The movies include “Mutiny on the Bounty” starring Marlon Brando, “The Adventures of Pluto Nash” starring Eddie Murphy, “Oh, God!” featuring George Burns in the titular role, “The Mission” starring Robert De Niro,...

The 2007-2011 "Family Guy" trilogy parodying the original "Star Wars" trilogy was audacious enough to work. The show's humor is built on cutaway gags, often ripe with movie parodies, so recreating the "Star Wars" movies wholesale took that to another level. At the time, both "Star Wars" and "Family Guy" fit under the Fox corporate umbrella, and "Star Wars" creator George Lucas is a "Family Guy" fan who was eager to lend support.
The "Family Guy" creative team are Gen X-ers who grew up with the original trilogy; the series' creator/lead voice actor Seth MacFarlane was born in 1973, so "Star Wars" was a part of his childhood. There’s a good chance that if you hear the name Shameik Moore, you’d associate him with the voice of Miles Morales from the animated Spider-Verse films. The actor has lent his vocal cords to the character over two — soonish to be three — movies starting back in 2018 with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Outside of that, you might recognize him for his live-action roles in movies like The Gutter or Samaritan or even for his on-screen appearance as Raekwon in Hulu’s series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga. But those who have been with his career even earlier might have gotten their first view of Moore’s abilities in a gone-too-soon Netflix series titled The Get Down. The show, which centered its story on the birth of hip-hop, was also one of the first gigs that put Justice Smith in the spotlight alongside industry vets Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) and...

Dexter has never been short of managing to wrangle some truly fantastic guest stars to work into the original and spin-off series’ magnificent, harrowing and sometimes downright weird seasons. Guest stars have included the likes of Jimmy Smits, John Lithgow, Edward James Olmos and Ray Stevens to name a few.
The prequel series has continued this trend of capturing talent with Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya Martins heading up the forensics department at Miami Metro. Gellar takes on the role of Dexter’s mentor in crime scene analysis, a part that must be major for the story, given the significance of casting such a notable name for the part.

The key leaders of the future Rebel Alliance are left reeling with the dawn of the first Galactic Empire in four key extracts from Star Wars' upcoming Andor prequel novel. The Star Wars Disney+ series saw Genevieve O'Reilly and Forrest Whittaker reprise their roles of Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera to cover the period leading up to Rogue One. Alongside the other characters of Andor, Mon Mothma grapples with financing an unorganized fledgling Rebel Alliance alongside Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), as the latter tries to convince Gerrera and other Rebel Cells to take a stand against tyranny.

Dexter had the potential to be an all-time great but fumbled in its latter half, which never should have been made in the first place. Dexter stars Michael C. Hall as the titular protagonist who, across eight seasons and 96 episodes, doubles as a forensic specialist and blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and a methodical vigilante serial killer. Dexter breaks the convention of traditional serial killers because he is guided by a strict rulebook that prevents him from killing innocent people — most of the time – based on his adoptive father Harry Morgan's code.
Based on the character created by author Jeff Lindsay, Showtime's Dexter follows Miami Metro Police Department's most skilled blood spatter analyst, Dexter Morgan, as he attempts to satisfy his Dark Passenger's need to kill by hunting down criminals who have escaped justice.

It’s ironic that a show about a woman trying to get revenge for her daughter’s opioid overdose death is so addicting, but here we are.
Kathy Bates’ Matlock is one of the 2024 season’s most popular new shows, and with good reason. People love her undercover mission, raw talent, and the twists in every episode.

Elizabeth Rodriguez debuted on the Chicago P.D. cast during the November 6 episode. It was her first time on the hit drama, and she made an impact.
Rodriguez plays Detective Suarez and was tasked by Deputy Chief Reid to lead Officer Kim Burgess through the final stages of her detective training.
Rodriguez was unsure why she had been given the responsibility, and she began to worry that Reid was testing her as much as he was testing Burgess.
More will come regarding the new deputy chief, as the reason for his interest in the Intelligence team wasn’t revealed.
Burgess and Rodriguez worked on the case (together) for most of Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 6, and they solved it. But Rodriguez made a mistake, giving an order for Burgess to split up from her as they tried to locate a suspect.
Burgess covered for Rodriguez, leading Rodriguez to offer her favorable treatment in her report.

Deadpool is an incredibly weird character with tons of ridiculous quirks about him, and one of the strangest has always been his obsession with chimichangas. This obsession is so great that it's not only featured heavily in the live action Deadpool movies, but it even has toys dedicated to it, and it's entirely due to Saturday Night Live.
The origins of Deadpool's obsession with chimichangas were revealed by Cbr, who tracked down the urban legend. The legend goes that Deadpool's obsession was inspired by a joke on Saturday Night Live - and to the surprise of everyone, it was. During an old skit on the iconic television program, Jimmy Smits was over-pronouncing Spanish words, which inspired the then-Deadpool writer Fabian Nicieza and Mark Gruenwald to do the same at the Marvel office.
This new joke proved to amuse the two so much that Nicieza decided to add it to the...

Although Dexter's killer protagonist was always careful not to get caught, there were a number of key characters who find out about Dexter Morgans dark passenger over the course of the series. Dexter documents the life of Dexter Morgan, a vigilante serial killer who also happens to be the blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. Dexter operates his serial killing unconventionally, sticking to a strict code where he can only kill those who deserve it confirmed murderers who have evaded the justice system.
While trying to appease his dark passengers need for blood, Dexter has to carefully avoid getting caught while on the hunt and after he kills. His most important rule while serial killing is to not be caught, which means not letting anyone know his real identity or acting in a way those around him find suspicious. Playing the beloved character of Bobby Simone to great acclaim, there is still some question as to why Jimmy Smits left NYPD Blue. NYPD Blue is ranked high among the best cop shows of all time, and its attention to detail, gritty storytelling, and across-the-board top-notch performances have made it stand out among a packed field of police procedurals. Its mature themes have kept it in the pop culture consciousness long after it ended in 2005. One of the most enduring characters on the show was Detective Bobby Simone, played by Jimmy Smits.
Bobby Simone first appeared on NYPD Blue in season 2, episode 5, "Simon Says", immediately making an impression. Initially a police commissioner's driver, the detective quickly proves his abilities, and his street smarts and empathy earned him love from fans and critics, with six Emmy nominations over his run on the show and one Golden Globe win. In today’s troubled political times, “The West Wing” feels even more quaint and nostalgic than it did when it premiered 25 years ago, which means we need it now more than ever. An idealized vision of a Presidential administration functioning at its very best despite Washington’s many complications, the Aaron Sorkin-created series captivated audiences with its whip-smart dialogue and dense storytelling. In honor of its 25th anniversary, let’s take a look back at 20 of its greatest episodes, ranked worst to best.

There’s Chief of Staff Leo McGarry (John Spencer), Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford), Communications Director Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff), Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe), Press Secretary C.J. Stephen King has become somewhat famous for his contribution to horror literature. Thanks to a long series of terrifying novels, King has become a genre unto himself, authoring tales like "Carrie," "Christine," "It," "Pet Sematary," "The Stand," "The Dead Zone," "Firestarter," "Cujo," "Misery," and dozens of others. He often tells tales of alcoholic authors (something he admits he can relate to) or other not-entirely-redeemable protagonists dealing with supernatural evil in one for or another. King is widely beloved for his storytelling acumen, and his dogged pursuit of his own unusual interests. For the most part, horror is where his heart has lived, and he still writes ghost stories and tales of regret to this day.
But perhaps King should stay far away from science fiction. When the antagonist of a Stephen King story is a malevolent spirit, a killer dog, a demonic living corpse, or a child-eating clown, he is in his wheelhouse.

It was a tame throwback Sunday at the Emmy Awards tonight with blasts from the past taking center stage in a show seemingly longing for another era.
Besides the unexpected and well deserved Best Comedy win for Hacks, the show was full of predictable trophies for FX’s Shōgun and The Bear and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer. Along with anticipated victories for True Detective: Night Country’s Jodie Foster, The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki and Hacks’ Jean Smart, Sunday’s nostalgia-heavy, nearly three-hour 76th Primetime Emmy Awards was punctuated by a crowd-pleasing West Wing 25th anniversary reunion, featuring Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Dulé Hill.
Even so, there was not much new to be said there on this small screen display of back to the future.

The West Wing’s President Bartlet and his staff reunited at the Emmys.
The not-so-secret reunion saw Martin Sheen, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney and Richard Schiff appear in a replica of the Oval Office before presenting best drama series.
Sheen opened by saying, “From 1999 to 2006 I had the honor of playing the President of the United States on an extraordinary series created by Aaron Sorkin and produced by John Wells.”
“The name of that series was The West Wing, and we all had the honor of serving your administration,” added Hill.
Janney said, “It’s hard to believe that 25 years ago, Aaron and the writers actually had to use their imaginations to create interesting plot lines for The West Wing.”
Schiff replied, “Unlike today, where story lines can be plucked right off the news, storylines that writers would have deemed a bit far-fetched, if not utterly ridiculous 25 years ago.

A night of nostalgia, a Baby Reindeer sweep and an incredible launching pad for the upcoming seasons of The Bear and Shōgun made up the 76th annual Primetime Emmys on Sunday.

8:04pm Pt To close out the night, Catherine O’Hara comes out to present best comedy. After ripping up a fake envelope, she opens the real one and announces an absolute jawdropper of a result: Max’s Hacks, for its third season, has pulled off a massive upset over the second season of FX’s The Bear, the most-nominated comedy of the year and, this year, already the comedy with the most wins in a single season. It’s hard not to see this as a statement from TV Academy members that, as great as The Bear is — and it is truly great — this award is intended for shows that actually make people laugh, which season 2 of The Bear did not do much of, and which season 3, which was rolling out during voting for season 2, really did not do much of.

Is “Shōgun” adding more Emmy hardware to its historic haul? Will “The Bear” break its own record? Those are the big questions heading into the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. Est/5 p.m Pst on ABC.
Hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the main ceremony caps off a television year dominated by “Shōgun,” which already set a record for most Emmys by a drama series in a single year when it nearly swept the Creative Arts Emmys with 14. The FX drama, led by Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, will attempt to beef up its overall take when it competes with eight nominations in six top categories: drama series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, writing and directing. TheWrap’s awards guru Steve Pond boldly predicts “Shōgun” will go six for six on Sunday.
