Steve Martin names his favorite character from his entire, decades-long career. Martin began acting back in the late 1960s, getting his start on a couple of one-off episodes of television. From there, he went on to be one of the most sought-after talents of the 1980s, acting in films such as Three Amigos!, Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Parenthood. Martin boasts multiple Emmy wins and nominations, including in 1969 for Best Writing Achievement in Comedy for his behind-the-scenes work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
Speaking in an interview with Vogue with his Only Murders in the Building co-stars, Martin reveals what his favorite character that he's ever played is.
While co-star Martin Short struggled more to answer questions, Steve Martin's answer came fairly immediately: Roxanne. Martin says that playing C.D. Bales in Roxanne was a "fun character to play" and "had a lot of energy." Only...

Although Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick are two of the most iconic movies of all time, all of their fallout hasn’t been positive. Many may not know that the filming of the first film led to a rivalry between Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Even though their characters were at odds with each other, the actors shared quite a friendly relationship.

However, as filming went on, a drive began to happen, and all they could do was watch as their characters came in between them. During an interview, Kilmer revealed his theory for why this was happening. According to him, only his character and circumstances are to blame.

Top Gun's success was not easily replicated, as evidenced by the long delay in completing the sequel, and the many poorly received rip-offs that followed. The success of Top Gun was due to its thrilling adventure and fun factor, which critics complaining about cheesiness and lack of believability missed. Navy Seals, the Navy-approved knock-off of Top Gun, failed to replicate its charm, escapism, and fast-paced action, resulting in terrible reviews and being deemed the "poor man's Top Gun."
While Top Gun inadvertently improved the Navy’s recruitment rates, the institution’s attempt to cash in on this trend with a Charlie Sheen vehicle failed disastrously. Upon its release in 1986, Top Gun was a much bigger hit than anticipated. The movie launched its star, Tom Cruise, into the A-list, made Tony Scott a majorly in-demand action director, and resulted in Navy recruitment rates significantly increasing for a few years after its release.

I love Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve seen every movie he’s done. Read his book. Follow his newsletter (which I totally recommend if you’re looking for a bit of healthy positivity in your day). Can spell his last name without Googling it. I grew up looking up to him as a father figure and still do to this day. He’s one of those special people you can look to for positivity and motivation when you’re feeling down. An actual positive male role model who just wants you to eat right, lift weights, and be kind. Oh, and he hosted and directed an episode of Tales from the Crypt once and owns a miniature horse named Whiskey that he lets live in the house with him.
What’S Not To Love?!
As you can tell, I am very excited to go through Arnold’s brief but legendary career...

We have a special episode of The Arrow in the Head Show for you today, one in which hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek take a look at a particularly awesome scene from director James Cameron’s 1984 classic The Terminator (watch it Here). The scene they’re discussing is the Tech Noir club scene – and to find out what they had to say about it, check out the video embedded above!
The screenplay for The Terminator is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, although Cameron has said that, while Hurd did suggest edits to the script, she didn’t actually do any writing on the film. The film has the following synopsis: Disguised as a human, a cyborg assassin known as a Terminator travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor. Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese, who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence...

The actor’s voice, perhaps more than any other tool in their kit—more than face and physicality—provides their critical means of expression. The surprisingly high-pitched voix aigue of Marlon Brando, for instance, or the rich low-ish register of Julia Roberts’ tone that can burst into shaking laughter. Bacall’s husky hum. Bogart’s lisp.
What, then, of an actor who can no longer speak, or at least in the voice we have come to know? Such is the fate of Val Kilmer, whose treatment for cancer now requires that he cap a throat tube each time he speaks. It has deprived him of the texture he could achieve in his speaking and singing voices, but not his soul of an artist.
The sense of Kilmer as very much the playful and searching spirit he has always been comes through in the new documentary Val, directed by Leo Scott and Ting Poo.

In “Val,” the actor Val Kilmer, now in his early 60s, appears before us as a broken-down relic of himself. His face, once beaming and chiseled, with that smile that resembled a bite, now looks soggy and morose, with dark eyebrows that give him an oddly Nixonian cast. More dramatically, he speaks in a thin robotic rasp, the result of a procedure performed on his trachea to heal the throat cancer that was diagnosed in 2015. Kilmer beat the cancer but was left with that scratchy voice-box drone, which takes a bit of getting used to. Yet once you do get used to it, you realize he’s very much the same fellow — or, at least, the older, wiser, more melancholy version. Kilmer used to talk quite fast; that was part of his comic sauvity in films like “Real Genius” — that this dude who looked like a sun god spoke like a geek in overdrive.

Former USC and National Football League star Tim Rossovich, who built a post-athletic acting career in various roles, has died after a long illness, according to USC News. He was 72 and passed Thursday in Sacramento.
Rossovich was an All-American and co-captain of the USC national championship team in 1967, remembered for star O.J. Simpson at running back. He became one of five USC players drafted in the first round in 1968, going to the Philadelphia Eagles as the 14th pick of the first round.
The lean defensive end made the Pro Bowl in 1969 during a career that saw him play for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, and Houston Oilers. He later played for the Philadelphia Bell in the short-lived World Football League.
After rooming with actor Tom Selleck in college and given his USC connections, it seemed inevitable that Rossovich would become an actor. He started as stunt double in the Burt Reynolds film Hooper,...

Apparently, the city of Lima lends itself well to post-apocalyptic settings. For proof there's that modern B-movie classic, New Crime City, where Rick Rossovich is sent into a devastated Los Angeles, which has been converted into a prison colony, to hunt down some bad guys (yes, it's a cheap John Carpenter rip-off). My fair city circa 1994 was chosen to stand in for a post-nuclear holocaust La - and they didn't even bother to hide the graffitti for local soccer teams.Lima is once again standing in for the future in The 2nd Horseman, from first-time director Arthur Cross. Peruvian films rarely travel into science fiction territory, save for some independent, low-budget experimental efforts but this one is clearly aiming to become a sci-fi action blockbuster,...

Hannover House and Annapurna Pictures currently hold the rights to The Terminator franchise, which revert back to James Cameron in 2018. While Terminator 5 has long been rumored to be the next film in the franchise, directed by Justin Lin and returning Arnold Schwarzenegger to the role that made him a worldwide icon, an animated feature film titled Terminator 3000 may come first.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to be interested in voicing the lead character, which will be CG animated in the same style as James Cameron's Avatar. A new piece of concept art, a title treatment created to help pitch the film, has been revealed. The second image is from Terminator Salvation, but offers a hint at what this new project will look like. Check it out below.
Hannover House President and Terminator 3000 developer Eric Parkinson discussed the project in length. Here is what he had to say.

Santa Monica cops on bikes get the job done in Pacific Blue.
A team of good-looking Santa Monica police officers patrol their district’s beaches on bicycles in Pacific Blue, the television action crime series that ran for an impressive five seasons on the USA Network from 1996 to 2000.
Created by Bill Nuss, the hit show starred various actors over the years (they were always coming and going), including Rick Rossovich (Top Gun) , Darlene Vogel (TV’s Beyond the Break), Paula Trickey (TV’s The O.C.), Mario Lopez (TV’s Nip/Tuck) and Shanna Moakler (Big Momma’s House 2).
Funnier though were the regular guest appearances by a handful of WWF wrestlers (WWF Raw was broadcast the same network) including Sable, Chyna, Triple H and Shawn Michaels.

In the first part of our extensive interview with actor Michael Biehn, we got to chat about his 1980s work in The Terminator, Aliens, and much, much more…
Anyone who’s familiar with my writing will know that I have a great love of under-appreciated actors. I’ll use any opportunity available to praise their work, and draw attention to films and performances that sometimes pass by relatively unnoticed.
Michael Biehn, for my money, is the most under-appreciated actor of them all. I’m sure most of our readers hold him in high regard, since he’s starred in several of the greatest films ever made, but to the general public, he’s less widely recognised.
Best known for playing father of the future, Kyle Reese, in The Terminator and D Hicks in Aliens (I’m well aware what the initial stands for, but I was crushed when the Special...

It has now been confirmed. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role as The Terminator in a new installment of the franchise to be directed by Fast Five's Justin Lin.
CAA is currently shopping a rights package to various different studios with both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Justin Lin attached. Robert W. Cort is producing, though no screenwriter has been hired at this time.
Pacificor currently holds the rights to The Terminator franchise. Universal, Sony, and Lionsgate are all reportedly considering the package that CAA has put together.
Like Man of Steel, which sees Warner Bros. in danger of losing certain rights to Superman, there is a rush to get a new Terminator into production soon, as the rights will revert back to James Cameron in 2018. Though he has no plans to ever make another Terminator, he would have to be included in any deal that would see another...

Ex-Governor of California and action movie icon Arnold Schwarzenegger recently attended The Arnold Classic, where he meets fans to regal them with tales of inspiration, and to field any questions about his past and future career.
Since the beginning of this year, there have been many rumors about Arnold Schwarzenegger's next move as an actor. In early February, he was said to be considering reprising his role as the unstoppable cyborg of the Terminator franchise, with the Fast Five team of director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan bringing him back for this fifth outing. In January, he explained that he was looking at three possible scripts, of which he didn't reveal too many details.
What is Arnold Schwarzenegger actually considering? Here is what he had to say about a new Terminator and those three scripts.
"Well, first of all it's more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to...

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger has left the office of California governor, he has expressed his desire to return to acting. It seems he could return to The Terminator franchise he made famous in the 80s with a new installment for Universal Pictures. The studio wants to pair up its Fast Five team of director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan for a fifth Terminator outing.
A year ago, Pacificor acquired the rights to The Terminator franchise. It was believed that a sequel to Terminator Salvation would happen, although that is not the case. It seems the bidding war for the franchise, which Sony and Lionsgate were involved in, ended bitterly for both studios, which were both hoping to distribute future Terminator movies. Now it seems Universal is the most likely candidate for where the franchise will land.

The Terminator animated film halted by Pacificor We reported yesterday that Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment were making a new 3D animated film based off The Terminator called Terminator 3000 and now Deadline New York is reporting that Pacificor, the company which holds the rights to the franchise, has issued a cease and desist order to stop the film.
Hannover House CEO Eric Parkinson told the site that the news made public because solely because one of the potential partners in the project had spoken publicly about it, and that he was still awaiting word from William Morris Endeavor, the agency that is representing Pacificor. He also said that he had "proprietary rights" to make the film in the animated format, since he once headed up the home video division of Hemdale, which made the original Terminator film.
"The animation rights were excluded when Hemdale sold Terminator to Carolco and when I left Hemdale,...

Roxanne on Blu-Ray
Main Feature (1H 46M 50S)
This is one of those films from my childhood which I have fond memories of. I must have watched Roxanne a dozen times as a kid and loved it because of all of the slapstick comedy. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of seeing an idiot get hit in the face with a tennis racket. This is from the period in Steve Martin’s career when he was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and the appearance of his name in a film’s credits would guarantee a huge audience. Nowadays, he appears to be on a mission to destroy what remains of a once glittering career, which is a damn shame. This is by no means Steve’s funniest performance, nor does Daryl Hannah look her finest. Having said that, the combination of the funny and the looking...

Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount Studios releases two more classic titles from its library on special edition DVD: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is John Ford’s last masterpiece (although he would go on to direct two more very good films) from 1962: about an Eastern lawyer (James Stewart) who travels west only to find primal brutality in the form of sadistic bandit Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin, great as always) and pragmatic brutality in local rancher Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), each two sides of a coin that represent a way of life slowly dying out as Stewart’s modern brand of civilization tames the West. A perfect film, period. Howard Hawks’ El Dorado is essentially a remake of his earlier classic Rio Bravo, with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and a young James Caan as lawmen joining forces against corrupt cattle barons. Great fun. Two disc sets.

Bill Paxton holds the distinction of being one of only two actors -- Lance Henriksen is the other -- to be "killed" by a terminator (in The Terminator), an alien (in Aliens), and a predator (in Predator 2). "Wait a minute," he says. "I think I was only maimed by the terminator. But I was certainly killed by the alien and the predator." Clearly this man is no stranger to sci-fi blockbusters.Paxton has come a long way from such over-the-top supporting roles as sneering elder brother Chet in Weird Science, whiny Pvt. Hudson in Aliens, and the sleazy car salesman pretending to be a spy in True Lies. Well-crafted dramatic turns in Apollo 13 and A Simple Plan, and time behind the camera directing the films Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played, have led the one-time character actor to something he's long dreamed about: playing a romantic lead.

'Flying' high: Cyrus, Rulin join indie pic

NEW YORK -- Billy Ray Cyrus and High School Musical star Olesya Rulin will headline Jim Amatulli's drama Flying By, the story of a businessman who risks his marriage, family and fortune to pursue his dream of being in a rock band.
Rulin will play the supportive daughter of the businessman (Cyrus) alongside Oscar winner Patricia Neal, Robert Gossett (TNT's The Closer), Eric Allan Kramer (American Wedding) and Ted Hutton in the family-friendly indie feature. Eric Abrahamson, Jonathan McHugh and Amatulli will produce for Arte Films and Encore Partners.
Neal is in final negotiations to play the mother of Cyrus' character, who teams with his bandmates (Gossett, Kramer) after being encouraged to perform by a club booker (Hutton). The film will begin shooting Nov. 26 in San Diego.
Cyrus, best known for his country hit "Achy Breaky Heart", is riding high with the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, starring his 14-year-old daughter Miley Cyrus. He's on tour promoting his new album, Home at Last.
Rulin will be seen next year opposite Jessica Simpson in Major Movie Star.
Amatulli wrote, directed and produced the 2003 crime drama Artworks, starring Virginia Madsen and Rick Rossovich.
