Awards season may have come and gone, but if you are still interested in catching up on some of the 2024 films you missed, then Max may be where you want to look in March. The platform’s streaming additions this month include not only a number of bona fide classics but also several of the best films released last year. Two of those movies are featured on the list below, along with several gems of different genres and decades that you could absolutely spend hours watching this month without ever regretting the time you gave them.

Fans were first introduced to the Ghostbusters when the first movie hit theaters in 1984. The franchise experienced a resurgence decades later with the release of legacy sequels, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, in 2021 and 2024 respectively.

Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in all four sequels, recently reflected on the legacy of Harold Ramis, who starred in and co-wrote the first two movies with Dan Aykroyd. "Harold, for me, was always the glue that sort of held things together, because when you're working on a show with such dynamic personalities that don't always come together," the actor told The Direct. "But Harold was a guy that everyone respected enough to put aside their own stuff and get the job done. So, he was always a go-to guywhen things were a little nuts."

There's been talk of a potential Spaceballs sequel for many years, and we recently got confirmation that a follow-up to Mel Brooks' '80s Star Wars spoof is officially in the works.

The movie is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Josh Gad set to star and produce alongside Brooks. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad.

Gad aside, no cast members have been announced, but we're now hearing that the studio has reached out to a major up-and-coming star for an undisclosed role in the movie.

In THR's profile of Wicked star Ariana Grande, the trade mentions that the recent Academy Award-nominee has been offered a number of roles which she has yet to commit to, including a part in Spaceballs 2.

We are sad to hear the news about the passing of Angus MacInnes, the Star Wars actor known for his portrayal of Gold Leader in Episode IV: A New Hope and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Canadian actor passed away on December 23 at the age of 77, via BBC News.

MacInnes had a storied career in film and television and starred in two other films with Harrison Ford. He was featured in the military drama Force 10 from Navarone, released in 1978, which also featured another Star Wars alumni, the late Carl Weathers.

In 1985, he had a starring role in the Ford film, Witness as a corrupt cop. The movie produced Ford's only Oscar nomination. His other screen credits include Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks and Strange Brew starring fellow Canadian Rick Moranis.

Back in 1984, the world met a group of parapsychologists investigating and eliminating ghosts in New York City in the supernatural comedy Ghostbusters. Directed by Ivan Reitman and created by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, Ghostbusters followed the title team, formed by Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Aykroyd), Spengler (Ramis), and Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), on their ghost-hunting adventures.

The huge success of Ghostbusters made way for a franchise with a direct sequel, a failed reboot in 2016, and a second reboot with two movies, along with two animated TV shows, video games, and lots of merch. While a third movie in the current reboot timeline is in development, the Ghostbusters franchise is now also preparing another movie, but this one will be animated.

The writer-star of the 1984 Ghostbusters said it was unlikely he and Bill Murray would return to their iconic roles in the sci-fi comedy franchise.

“I don’t see that coming,” Aykroyd told the New York Post while promoting his History Channel series The UnBelievable With Dan Aykroyd.

The Og Saturday Night Live cast member and Oscar nominee continued, “I don’t see where they would need us to carry it on. They’ve got a whole new cast, and they’ve got whole new ideas.”

Aykroyd, Murray, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis starred as Manhattan-based paranormal investigators in the 1984 lighthearted action-horror movie, from a script by Aykroyd and Ramis, with Ivan Reitman directing. Also starring Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, the pic became a critical and commercial success, spawning several sequels and reboots, as well as merchandise and a coveted spot in the cultural zeitgeist.

When Matt LeBlanc showed up to the premiere of a Brad Pitt flick that tanked to the tune of $500K, his reason was hilariously, well, Joey-like. When asked why he was there, LeBlanc shrugged and delivered an answer that could’ve come straight from his Friends alter ego: “Free food, man!”

Spaceballs 2, the sequel to Mel Brooks' 1987 satirical space opera, was announced earlier this year and, from the sounds of it, things are getting closer and closer to the starting point thanks to writer Josh Gad, who recently provided fans with one heck of a galaxy-sized update. Gad famous for voicing the character of Olaf in Disneys Frozen franchise is penning the script along with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez (Detective Pikachu), and will also star in and produce the long-awaited follow-up, which also has Brooks on board as a producer, and Josh Greenbaum (Strays) sitting in the director's chair.

A Spaceballs sequel is currently in the works with Josh Gad on board to star, produce, and co-write the script. While not many details are yet known about the new film, it's sounding like some new information is soon to be announced.

In a new interview with Forbes to promote his Dark Horse comic, The Writer, Gad shared a big update on the project. He confirmed that there's a finished draft of the screenplay for Spaceballs 2 that's left everyone who's seen it so far feeling "blown away." Stressing that he's spending "every hour of every day" working on the sequel, Gad hinted that the film will soon be ready to start with production.

Great news, Mel Brooks fans! There’s a Spaceballs sequel coming down the pike, and the script is supposed to be amazing!

How do we know? Screenwriter and potential star Josh Gad tells us so. He just finished his first draft, and “everybody who’s read it has been blown away,” says the guy who just finished the first draft. “The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.”

Gad then proceeded to tell Forbes everything about the new script without actually saying anything at all. “It was sort of a fever dream that this all happened,” he explained. “Mel has been so unbelievably supportive, involved and electrified by this because it’s the one that surprisingly got away. It’s a dream to be able to finally make the reality prophesied by Yogurt in the first movie happen.

In 1987, comedy legend Mel Brooks released Spaceballs, a parody of Star Wars that pit space rogue Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his furry companion Barf (John Candy) against the vile Darth Helmet (Rick Moranis). Star Wars mania had by no means abated by that point — Return of the Jedi had come out four years before — but Spaceballs didn't get its own cult of fans until it came out on home video, which is how watched it when I was a tiny baby in the 1990s. I actually think I watched Spaceballs before I watched Star Wars, and it's still probably first in my heart.

The actor will produce and star in the film for Amazon MGM Studios and recently revealed that the script’s first draft had been completed.

Jonathan Haze, who starred for Roger Corman as the flower shop assistant Seymour Krelborn in the original The Little Shop of Horrors, just one of two dozen films he made with the B-movie legend, has died. He was 95.

Haze died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, his daughter, Rebecca Haze, told The Hollywood Reporter.

A cousin of drummer Buddy Rich, Haze was a valuable and versatile member of Corman’s repertory company from 1954 — when he acted in The Fast and the Furious and Monster From the Ocean Floor — until 1967, when he appeared in The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and served as an assistant director on The Born Losers.

In one of his more noteworthy turns, Haze portrayed one of the three teenagers who stumble upon $250,000 worth of heroin and become dealers in Warner Bros. drama Stakeout on Dope Street (1958), the first feature directed by Irvin Kershner.

His daughter, Rebecca Haze, told Deadline that he died peacefully of natural causes on November 2 at his home in Los Angeles but did not provide a cause.

Born in Pittsburgh on April 1, 1929, Haze was discovered working in a gas station by Wyott Ordung, who gave him a role in Monster from the Ocean Floor, which Corman produced.
