As fulfilling as it must be to create an actual feature film, there has to be a lot of fun involved in developing the fake films that sometimes appear in movies. Think about it. You don't have to deal with all the finicky details and logistics of turning this brief concept into a fully-fledged picture -- you just get to come up with an idea, execute the best bits of it, and move on.
Whether they add to the narrative or simply serve as an excellent punchline, fake movies can pack an out-sized punch, considering how we often only see a few minutes of them within a larger narrative. But it speaks to their quality that despite the small amount of time they're shown on screen, they tend to lodge themselves into the mind of the viewer, giving audiences a stand-out moment. And the very best of these make us all think,...

In the 2006 ABC sitcom "Emily's Reasons Why Not," Heather Graham played the titular Emily Sanders, a self-help guru trying to suss out her own dating life. In the wake of her latest breakup, Emily is hurt, having figured she has previously forgiven her boyfriends of too many of their all-too-obvious flaws. As such, Emily adopts a strict new code for any future romances: when she begins a new relationship, she will begin keeping a list of reasons why she might want to break up. If the list reaches five bullet points, she dumps her suitor and moves on. In the show's first episode, she begins dating a man who is assertively chaste and who refuses to have sex with her. This leads her to suspect that he may be gay and in the closet, and is merely using an affected vow of chastity to avoid sexual activity with women.

Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. But, it wouldn't be a Nic Cage movie without the actor either delivering one of the most groundbreaking, emotional performances of his life, or one of the most bonkers caricatures you've ever seen. For his new, wild western, Gunslingers, Cage has characteristically chosen the latter.
The first trailer for Gunslingers has now been unleashed, and it's safe to say that Cage is a certified scene-stealer once again. The film is written and directed by Brian Skiba (Guns of Redemption) and is set to be released on April 11. Alongside Cage, Gunslingers also stars Heather Graham, Stephen Dorff, and Scarlet Rose Stallone. Cage plays mad genius Ben, who is guided to a town named Redemption to confront their violent histories. The official synopsis reads:

Nicolas Cage is unleashing his meme-able rage as a gun-toting “mad genius” for his latest Western, “Gunslingers.”
Cage, who previously starred in fellow genre films “The Old Way” and “Butcher’s Crossing,” plays Ben, an unhinged reformed outlaw who has a spiritual awakening on the road of revenge. Stephen Dorff and Heather Graham also star in “Gunslingers,” along with Scarlet Stallone, Costas Mandylor, Tzi Ma, and Randall Batinkoff.
The official synopsis reads: “Reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and mad genius Ben (Cage) are guided by spiritual leader Jericho (Mandylor) as they strive for vindication. While confronting their violent history, a brutal bar fight and deadly feud reignites between Thomas, Ben, and the notorious Five Points Gang. Now baptized and reborn, Thomas grapples with fresh challenges, testing his newfound peace amidst a town steeped in secrets, violence, and a relentless quest for revenge.”
The film is set in the fictional Kentucky town of Redemption.

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you! Please bear witness to today’s Gunslingers trailer and revel in the action and unseriousness of this delightful preview for what looks like an off-the-wall Western starring Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff.
Today’s Gunslingers trailer is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m a massive Nicolas Cage fan, especially when he’s most unhinged. Don’t get me wrong, I love his dramatic roles in films like Pig, Leaving Las Vegas, and Dream Scenario. However, allowing Cage to be at his Cageiest is a cure for what ails ya.
Brian Skiba directs Gunslingers from his own script. The story unfolds in Redemption, where reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and a mad genius, Ben (Cage), are guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho toward vindication. While wrestling with his inner demons, Keller runs afoul of the Five Points Gang. The confrontation forces Keller’s hand,...

Nicolas Cage will always be known for his roles in classic sci-fi thrillers such as Face/Off (John Travolta) and Next (Julianne Moore), but he’s next been set to star in a Western that just got an exciting new look. Cage features alongside Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff in Gunslingers, the upcoming action thriller that’s coming to theaters on April 11. Lionsgate has officially unveiled the first trailer for Gunslingers, which also stars Scarlet Rose Stallone and Tzi Ma and comes from writer/director Brian Skiba. Skiba also recently worked with Dorff on Clean Cut, the nature thriller that also stars Alec Baldwin and is streaming on Peacock, and he’s famous for his work on Pursuit, the 2022 critically panned crime thriller starring Emily Hirsch that’s streaming on Prime Video.

While Gwyneth Paltrow garnered traction for her works on Seven and Emma, it was the controversial Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love that pushed her to prominence and earned her an Academy win for Best Actress. Interestingly, despite enjoying an illustrious run since then, Paltrow has had her fair share of mishaps, including some high-profile roles that she turned down.

Many find it hard to believe that the 2020s are halfway over. Within the decade, audiences have witnessed many surprise hits in the theaters, including but not limited to a Top Gun legacy sequel and one of the best Godzilla movies ever made. Even though the 2020s have been heavily reliant on blockbusters, other periods within the 21st century have shown their fair share of surprisingly crowd-pleasing films.
From the 2000s onward, there has been an array of theatrically released movies that caught audiences off-guard with how high-quality and entertaining they were. Viewers initially had little to no expectations for these movie releases, yet strong word-of-mouth persuaded them to see what everyone was raving about. As a result, these modern movies, from legacy sequels to downright fun action and comedy films, are now considered masterpieces in their respective genres.

"Who killed Laura Palmer?" It's a simple, seemingly straightforward question that kicked off one of the most anything-but-straight-forward shows of all time. With the premiere of Twin Peaks in 1990, audiences were drawn into a surreal, dreamy nightmare as they hungered for the not-so-simple answer to that mystery.
In the decades since that premiere, Laura Palmer has become an icon. A symbol. A recognizable face and a beacon to many. Shirts with her homecoming photo are sold by the thousands. Images of her "dead, wrapped in plastic" adorn magnets and stickers. Her death and the images of her death influence Pinterest boards and Tumblr themes. Despite her death, she lives on -- but does she, Laura Palmer, as a person live on or, just as in the show, does she only live on as an aesthetic for others?

Stephen King is an opinionated fellow. Stroll through the fiction aisles of your local bookstore and examine the covers of newish novels, and you probably won't have to search long to find one bearing praise from Stephen King -- which is touching because, in this age of distracted everything, it's nice to see one of the world's most prominent authors exhorting people to lose themselves in a book.
King isn't always a ray of sunshine though. He's infamous for his dislike of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" film adaptation, and hasn't held back on other cinematic interpretations of his novels. And when Entertainment Weekly started giving King column space in its printed pages back in the mid 2000s to rant and rave about all things pop culture, he was unsparing with his hatred for the latest music by Jewel, Beyoncé, and Celine Dion while also unloading both barrels on prestige...

Charles Shyer, the writer and director behind some of the most memorable comedies of their eras, has passed away at the age of 83.
Charles Shyer’s first film credit – after penning episodes of The Odd Couple and Happy Days – came with 1977’s Smokey and the Bandit, lending to what would become a fast-paced, quip-filled comedy that would be one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Shyer would garner more industry attention with the following year’s House Calls, sharing a WGA nomination.
He would go on to win a Writers Guild of America Award for Private Benjamin, which found Goldie Hawn as a privileged 20-something who joins the army. Shyer, along with a team that also included frequent collaborator and one-time wife Nancy Meyers, would be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is bringing back the medical comedy 15 years later after the show ended with a notoriously disliked final season. Despite having the opportunity to retcon that ninth season in different ways, Lawrence says the upcoming reboot will honor the controversial events of Seasn 9, which mainly focused on a new set of characters (in a new location) — something that wasn't fully embraced by Scrubs fans. While Season 9 did see most of the original stars return in guest roles, Donald Faison and John C. McGinley were the only two to return in recurring roles. That was obviously a bold choice (given the popularity of the show's original cast)... and it didn't pay off: Scrubs was canceled following its ninth season.
But, despite all that, Lawrence says there is room for Scrubs' talented final season cast in the upcoming revival. During a conversation with TVLine, Lawrence defended his stance, saying,...

Medical sitcom Scrubs is set to be rebooted, creator Bill Lawrence is onboard and the majority of the original cast are in talks to return.

His other Apple TV show, Bad Monkey starring Vince Vaughn, has also been renewed for a second series,
On top of all that, according to Deadline a reboot of his hit medical comedy Scrubs, which ran for nine seasons between 2001 and 2010, is in development at ABC in America.

A return to Sacred Heart Hospital is getting closer to reality! A reboot of Scrubs has long been rumored with fans stoked about a potential return of the medical sitcom, but it has all been talk...until now. ABC is in early development on the project after securing the involvement of the man who made the show a definitive series of its era.
Per Variety, ABC is officially in early development on the Scrubs reboot after striking a deal with series creator Bill Lawrence. The executive producer is already under an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. TV which consists of four series, so Scrubs had to be worked into that deal, which finally worked out after weeks of negotiations. This will allow Lawrence to work on the reboot for 20th TV and ABC, but the deal does not include him being the series' showrunner, which will be found as the show continues its development.

Boogie Nights takes place in the world of adult entertainment. Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 classic stars Mark Wahlberg as Dirk Diggler, a California native who became a well-known adult film actor in the San Fernando Valley during the '70s. Recognizable actors portray most characters, but several real-life adult film stars make cameos in small roles. Before Boogie Nights, Mark Wahlberg had already established an impressive resume in the entertainment industry, but this movie made him a star.
Boogie Nights transformed Wahlberg into a mainstream movie star, thanks in large part to his tragicomic lead performance and a climactic scene that literally exposes the film's lead character, Dirk Diggler. However, what many P.T. Anderson fans remember is that this film is full of character actors who would go on to appear in several of the director's movies over the next two decades, some in lead roles and others always working as brilliant supporting actors.

Age is just a number! But if we’re being honest, sometimes that ‘number’ feels more like a math problem—hard to wrap your head around. Heather Graham, who, at 54 has absolutely shattered any notion of what age is supposed to look like. We mean, seriously, we’re over here wondering if we accidentally stepped into a time machine.
Spoiler alert: we didn’t, but Graham definitely did.

Graham, that timeless bombshell who once made us all swoon as Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, has somehow managed to stay forever young. If you hop over to her Instagram, you’ll be bombarded with pics of her posing on sun-kissed beaches, looking like she’s just stepped out of a Vogue photoshoot.
And no, she’s not in her twenties—she’s 54—but somehow has managed to pull off the kind of ageless...

Westerns are making a muted comeback, albeit remixed with more popular genre tendrils, especially horror. Place of Bones (2024), for the majority of its 93 minutes is a small, independent western and remains steadfastly within those genre trappings. From a script by Richard Taylor and directed by Audrey Cummings (Ginny & Georgia), Place of Bones follows mother-daughter duo Pandora (Heather Graham) and Hester (Brielle Robillard) as they face off against a gang of outlaws while holed up in their remote ranch in 1876 Old West.
Place of Bones (2024) Plot Synopsis and Movie Summary
The movie opens with Pandora Meadows and her daughter Hester living in a remote ranch over 95 miles from the nearest town. The mother and daughter share a somewhat contentious relationship. Hester, every morning, would go up to her father’s grave to visit her and then would complete the chores while being corrected on her speech and articulation by her mother,...

A few months ago, veteran character actor Louis Gossett Jr, who got his acting start in Broadway productions back in 1950s (including Take a Giant Step and a 1959 production of A Raisin in the Sun where he shared the stage with Sidney Poitier), passed away at 87. While we have to get used to the fact that our favorite actors are all human, and like all of us, eventually pass away, it can’t help but hurt anytime we lose a legend like this. But he leaves behind a rich legacy, so let’s look back at five of his coolest roles.
An Officer and a Gentleman:
Louis Gossett Jr. won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in this, and became the first African-American actor to win an Academy Award in that category in the process. Next to R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket,...

Bradley Cooper is a multi-time Oscar nominee with a deep history in the film industry. After kicking off his career with an episode of Sex and the City in 1999, the early days of Cooper's career consisted mainly of comedies. This trend began for the actor in 2001 when he acted in the star-studded Wet Hot American Summer. From there, the then-rising star would go on to make several other movies in the same genre, including Wedding Crashers, The Rocker, and more.
It was not until the 2010s that Cooper's career really shifted more heavily into drama. In 2013, Cooper was nominated for his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the Jennifer Lawrence-co-starring film Silver Linings Playbook. He would continue on a hot streak in dramas from that point, being nominated for Oscars in both subsequent years. Now, he is a multi-hyphenate talent known for acting, producing,...

Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn became household names when they joined forces for the celebrated 1996 comedy hit Swingers, in which the dynamic duo star as two Los Angeles pals who are struggling to make it in the entertainment industry and chase their Hollywood dreams while also navigating the world of romance and women. Vaughn knocked it out of the park as the womanizing Trent Walker, with the decorated actor serving up a heaping dose of charm, wit, and humor in the unforgettable role.
Swingers went on to become a massive critical and financial triumph, emerging as one of the decade's most profitable independent flicks while also putting its talented cast and crew on the map. Nearly thirty years later, fans of the beloved movie still hold the sidesplitting comedy in high regard, with many hoping that a long-desired sequel would get made as a result of its dazzling success. While there aren’t any movies quite like Coralie Fergeat’s “The Substance,” there are plenty of over-the-top horror films about transformation, incredibly weird science, shared identities and losing your damn mind, like the 1981 cult movie “Possession,” pretty much every David Cronenberg movie, as well as offerings from Ken Russell, Peter Strickland, Julia Ducournau and Ari Aster.
Expect screaming, exploding heads, lots of blood and some of the most insane endings ever.
Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill in “Possession” (Credit: Gaumont) Possession (1981)
Isabelle Adjani has the mother of all freakouts in a subway in this role that earned her a César for Best Actress (the French equivalent of the Oscars) and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Fest that year, but that’s not even the most mind-blowing part of the movie form Polish director Andrzej Żuławski. She’s also cheating on her husband (Sam Neill) with something that isn’t really human.

A Scrubs revival could be headed our way, and recent comments made by series star Zach Braff will only fuel our optimism for its arrival. Braff, who starred in the medical comedy for its entire 9-season run, recently discussed the likelihood of a follow-up and the obstacle standing in the way of the show's development. Scrubs, which follows the lives of employees at (fictional) Scared Heart Hospital, is centered around Braff's J.D., a young doctor embarking on his medical career. While promoting a Garden State concert in honor of the indie film's 20th anniversary, Braff told Variety:
"['Scrubs' creator] Bill Lawrence is going press every other week because he's got so many hit shows, so if you look at his statements, they get more and more definitive. I'm not speaking out of school when I say it's a business thing. He's got a Warner Bros. deal but 'Scrubs' is a Disney show.

We spoke with comedic actor Thomas Lennon amid the release of Chosen Family, his new movie from writer-director Heather Graham who also leads the cast. Lennon steals his scenes as Matt, the hilarious but supportive friend of Ann (Graham), a single yoga instructor trying in vain to connect with her new boyfriend's devilish seven-year-old daughter. It's the latest laugh-out-loud project in a long line of similarly comedic ones from Lennon, whom Comedy Central fans might remember best from the acclaimed mockumentary series, Reno 911! And it sounds like another reunion between its beloved cast is not exactly out of the question down the line.

Heather Graham recalls stepping out of her comfort zone to take on her role in 1997’s Boogie Nights.
The actress, who plays Rollergirl in Paul Thomas Anderson’s porn-industry drama, recently said on the Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum podcast that she initially avoided projects involving sexual content.
“I grew up in a religious family, and they were like, ‘Don’t do anything with any sexual content,'” Graham explained. “But try to be a woman in Hollywood in your early 20s, mid-20s, and then to try to get no roles with any sexual content — it’s like impossible.”
The Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me star ultimately decided to go against her family’s wishes and not limit her opportunities in Hollywood.
“I had turned down a few things where there was sexual content, and then I saw other people, having really good careers,” she recalled.

We spoke to Heather Graham upon the release of her directorial project Chosen Family, a comedy film she wrote and also stars in. The title lives up to its name, as Graham's lovable lead character navigates modern romance and lasting friendships while struggling to set boundaries against her increasingly needy family. Graham told MovieWeb:
"I definitely would love to be in the Scrubs revival. Zach [Braff] and Donald [Faison] do a podcast called [Fake Doctors, Real Friends] and we were all talking about that. And I was just like, 'I want to go back and do more episodes of Scrubs!

The Golden Globe and Emmy nominee first found success with her turns in multiple William Shakespeare modernizations, including the Heath Ledger-co-starring 10 Things I Hate About You, Ethan Hawke's Hamlet and Tim Blake Nelson's O. Her star power has only grown since, including starring in the original Bourne trilogy with Matt Damon and in Dexter season 5 as Lumen.
Stiles stars in Chosen Family as Clio, sister to the film's protagonist Ann, just released from her latest stint in rehab after years of struggling with various addictions. Moving back in with their hyper-religious father and eccentric mother, Clio becomes consistently more frustrated with her sister's overbearing nature of making sure she doesn't go back to rehab, while their parents continue to support her with her various ideas of businesses she wants to form,...

You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family. That's how the adage always went, at least until we started to expand our definition of family. Yes, the notion of a chosen clan is ever-growing in popularity, and it's being explored on the big screen in a variety of ways. There are darker explorations like the Jesse Eisenberg film Manodrome from earlier this year, and now, on a much lighter note, there's the quite obviously titled Chosen Family, a passion project from the always charming Heather Graham.
The last time we spoke to Graham, she was playing a gritty Western character trying to protect her daughter (in the film Place of Bones). This time around, her character Ann is trying in vain to connect with someone else's daughter, giving Chosen Family an uncomfortable comedic end result that might give certain millennials and Gen X'ers Ptsd based on their own past family woes.
