Jenna Ortega became internationally famous when she took the titular role in Netflix's hit Addams Family spin-off, Wednesday. While the actress has long certified her status as a scream queen, few people remember she had her big feature role in a Marvel film.
Ortega's name is now tied to several horror films, and she has proven her acting talents in many darker projects. However, her first feature film was 2013's Iron Man 3. The actress played a very small role as a child actor, playing the daughter of the U.S. Vice President (played by Miguel Ferrer), and appeared briefly on the screen. With rumors about her joining the MCU, Ortega didn't show much interest in the superhero world when speaking to Entertainment Tonight.

Can you imagine pouring your heart into a role only to have your character vanish into thin air? You ever have one of those experiences where you blink and you’re completely erased from the picture? That’s exactly what happened to Jenna Ortega in her brief Iron Man 3 appearance back in 2013.
The Wednesday star, 22, who’s now conquering hearts with her role as a gothic teen sleuth, recently gave Marvel fans the cold shoulder when they wondered if she’d ever grace the MCU again. As far as Ortega is concerned, Marvel has already done her dirty. And it wasn’t just cutting her lines—oh no, they took away her name too.

While writing "Invincible," Robert Kirkman wears his love for other superhero comics on his sleeves. As you read or watch "Invincible," you can tell Kirkman is getting his desire to write Spider-Man out of his system; Mark Grayson is one of the best portrayals of Peter Parker, with similar strengths and flaws.
Most of the other major heroes and villains in "Invincible" have Marvel/DC counterparts, too. Mark's girlfriend Atom Eve is Mary Jane Watson but with superpowers. Cecil Stedman is Nick Fury, just with a scarred cheek instead of an eyepatch. The original Guardians of the Globe are the Justice League, to a member: Darkwing is Batman, War Woman is Wonder Woman, and Red Rush is Flash. That's why it's so harrowing when Omni-Man brutally kills the Guardians. There's only one survivor, the Immortal, who lives up to his name and regenerates. But which hero is the Immortal based on?...

From dubbed actors to jarring edits to terrible image quality, watching films on British TV was a minefield in the 80s and 90s…
Saturday the 5th August was a truly magical day on BBC One. Not just because Dale Winton – assisted by the ever-dependable Terry Nutkins – presented a vintage episode of Pets Win Prizes. Or because Tony Robinson presented Stay Tuned!, a thoroughly charming series about the history of animation.
No, the 5th August was particularly memorable because it featured an unusually early screening of shark attack sequel, Jaws The Revenge. Its 6pm air time was so early, in fact, that the BBC wound up cutting out roughly 10 minutes of its gore and toothsome mayhem to keep it friendly for a pre-watershed audience. Never a long film to begin with (roughly an hour and a half), the Jaws sequel which showed that summer evening ran for just 80 minutes.

Stephen King is one of the most prolific and influential authors of all time, and the authority on the horror and sci-fi genre. His books have been adapted into countless films and television projects, some of them even more than once.
Many iconic filmmakers have attempted to adapt King's works, and some of them were successful, like frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan, and others were not on King's favorite list due to the many changes to their material. One horror veteran auteur who hasn't attempted to adapt one of King's works is James Wan, famous for works like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring. In a new appearance on The Kingcast, Wan revealed that the "only" novel for him to adapt is one of King's most ambitious works: The Stand.

The late David Lynch is one of Hollywood's most influential surrealist filmmakers. From "Eraserhead" to "Blue Velvet" to "Mulholland Drive," his work explores everything from the horror of parenting to the darkest underbellies of America in a way that's unmistakably, well, "Lynchian." However, while most of Lynch's work is dark and horrific -- as evidenced by the time he directed the single greatest jump scare in history -- it's often punctuated by moments of absurdist humor. Unfortunately, his first attempt at making an out-and-out sitcom didn't work out as well as he probably hoped, but "On the Air" is an interesting outlier in his oeuvre.
After Lynch changed television forever with "Twin Peaks" (a show whose influence can be found in everything from "Lost" to "Riverdale"), he and Mark Frost teamed up again for this short-lived comedy about the entertainment industry. "On the Air" centers around the cast and...

Murder, infidelity, gambling, and sinister bed and breakfasts. We rank the stories in Tales Of The Unexpected’s first series…
From 1979 to 1988, Tales Of The Unexpected served up a semi-regular diet of murder, cruelty, betrayal and intrigue. An anthology show initially based on short stories by Roald Dahl (later seasons introduced work by other writers), the series could be described as ITV’s answer to Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Indeed, several of its stories were previously adapted in that American anthology show. And, just as Hitchcock showed up in front of the camera to introduce his episodes, Dahl appears here, seated next to a roaring open fire, providing an opening ramble about each story.
The title sequence, meanwhile, with its infuriatingly catchy theme tune and silhouettes of dancing ladies, feels like something from an early James Bond movie. Maybe it was Dahl’s homage to his contemporary and friend, 007 creator Ian Fleming…...

The horror genre, particularly in a miniseries format, continues to rise in popularity year after year. The best of these produce jaw-dropping and heart-pounding moments that are hard to match with other genres. Rather than a traditional film, where the build-up, middle, and climax have to play out in a brisk feature-length time, in a series, there are no such constraints. This allows creators and directors time to let their storyline develop fully. This freedom allows the intense payoffs of intricate, layered stories, character development, and horrifying elements that make the best of these horror shows so unforgettable.
Though many talented hands go into each and every production, two stand above the rest, with horror stalwarts author Stephen King and filmmaker Mike Flanagan helping create many of the best horror shows of all time. The career of genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan is strongly tied to the works of author Stephen King. Flanagan has directed film adaptations of the King novels Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep. He tried and failed to bring an adaptation of King’s Revival to the screen. His upcoming film The Life of Chuck is another King adaptation, he’s developing the author’s Dark Tower saga as a Prime Video series, and we recently heard that he’ll be turning Carrie into an eight episode Prime Video series. He knows his King – which is why Movieweb asked him to name some of the most underrated King adaptations. Flanagan gladly did, mentioning a few great ones.

Stephen King is prolific, to put it lightly. Even big fans of the horror author haven't read everything he's written, much less seen all the good movies and miniseries that have been based on his work. There are several titles that have been somewhat buried, especially the TV movies and miniseries. Dated as they may be, there is still a lot to enjoy in films and miniseries like Needful Things, The Langoliers, Graveyard Shift, and others. But if you want to find the best movies you may have missed, who better to ask than Stephen King filmmaker extraordinaire Mike Flanagan? He's directed three King adaptations and is working on a fourth, a TV series version of Carrie. When MovieWeb spoke with the charming auteur, he provided his picks for the most underrated Stephen King adaptations.

NCIS is one of the most popular TV shows, and for good reason, but there are also many similar shows that deserve the same attention. NCIS has been on the air for over 20 years and has also led to the formation of several NCIS spinoffs. The show has managed to maintain its popularity despite numerous cast changes and character exits, highlighting the success of its formula. Recent NCIS seasons have even revealed the exit of major main characters, demonstrating its ongoing development.
NCIS's popularity over the years can be attributed to its familiarity, routine, and likable characters. However, NCIS is just one of many procedural TV shows that highlight charismatic characters who work together to bring criminals to justice. The 1987 film RoboCop wasn't supposed to make over 50 million dollars, spawn two sequels, a toy line, a reboot, or a TV show. It sure as hell wasn't expected to affect cinematic discourse. What happens when you get an art-house director who despises science fiction and action movies; a producer who made a film so controversial it was banned from theaters; a dyslexic actor unable to audition formally; an actress who nobody respected; and no-name writers to write a script that's the joke of Hollywood? A satirical, R-rated, sci-fi-blockbuster masterpiece. The pieces fell into place despite the contradictions, the actors, director, studio, and effects crew venturing down uncharted territory out of pure stubbornness.
On paper, this project was a flop. Director Paul Verhoeven voiced his contempt for the script, threatening to remove all trace of comedy, and throwing tantrums when the crew failed to meet his expectations. Luckily, the film came...

Disney movies are known for their family-friendly atmospheres, but some of the most popular Disney characters actually kill their enemies. This isn't exactly in line with Disney's image of magical family entertainment, but it just proves that Disney can get surprisingly dark sometimes. While it isn't too much of a shock to see Disney villains with a murderous streak, some beloved heroes have also killed other characters.
The charming animation style of Disney's movies can often conceal a lot of darkness and violence that wouldn't be as appropriate for younger audiences in live-action. The fact that so many Disney characters have stacked up imposing kill counts without being known as killers highlights how the studio puts a magic sheen over most things. However, when some movies are examined more closely, some beloved Disney icons are revealed to be killers.

RoboCop is making his way to streaming, and the new TV series has found some heavy-hitting talent to guide it. Released in 1987 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop was a dark satire about police officer Alex Murphy being revived after a gruesome murder by megacorporation Omni Consumer Products (Ocp) as the titular RoboCop. The film spawned a successful franchise that included two sequels, a 2014 reboot, several television series, video games, comics, and toys. A pop culture staple, it was only a matter of time before the character returned.

The Stephen King TV adaptations of the 90s have their legion of fans despite the varying qualities. On a brisk April afternoon in the East Village, Griffin Dunne steps through a portal to his past. He has hustled up the stairs of an East Village tenement too old for elevators despite its gentrified gleam. The hallways are narrow but clean and the doors look modern, new — until we arrive at the apartment we’re seeking. Layers of chipped paint speak of the passage of decades. The threshold is uneven — an entry to an era of slanting wooden floors, fire escape patios and bathrooms the size of closets. Inside, hats of fantastic shapes and sizes dot the blue walls, and everywhere there are books and flyers about Blondie, the Pyramid Club, Candy Darling, David Wojnarowicz, etc. Here is the habitat of a performance artist, impeccably preserved for decades and in fact still very much in use.

Here we are with another case of “Wait, that was a book first?” Although, having watched the movie for the first time and seeing its reputation online, this is also a case of “Wait, that was a movie?” William Friedkin was a master filmmaker and although most of his stone-cold classics happened before 1990, he proved he still had plenty in the tank with things like The Hunted and Bug to name a couple. He was a replacement director which seems surreal considering his talents and he was one of 3 credited writers on a little remembered horror movie adaptation from 1990. The Guardian (watch it Here) is based on The Nanny from 1987 and it’s a strange pairing of source material and finished product. Both pieces of media are mostly slept on in their respective fields but how close did Friedkin and the other writers come to matching the book? Always do...

In case you somehow missed it, the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse is upcoming.
That will be NCIS Season 21 Episode 7, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. Monday, April 15.
The event was heralded by an Entertainment Tonight special hosted by Kevin Frazier, which aired April 8 on CBS. It's likely still available on streaming service Paramount+.
NCIS has been on 21 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles lasted 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans seven. NCIS: Hawaii is in its third season, while NCIS: Sydney recently finished its first season. You do the math to get to 999.
So, as the NCISverse's 1,000th episode approaches, would now be the peak for the franchise, with two spinoffs airing this season and two new spinoffs planned for next season?

Horror icon Stephen King is not just one of the greatest American authors of all time, but also one of the most prolific. Starting with Carrie in 1976, his works have been adapted into some of the scariest horror movies, but with the sheer volume of his output, not everything has landed. For every blockbuster like It, there are duds such as Firestarter and The Lawnmower Man, that were both flops and poorly regarded films.
King himself has stated that Stanley Kubrick's 1980 masterpiece, The Shining, is his least favorite adaption, so determining the best and worst of his work is subjective. Box office numbers are usually a pretty good indicator of the quality of a film, but not always. Combining receipts with ratings from sites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, however, seems like a fair way to gauge the most disappointing Stephen King adaptations.

Stephen King made it very well known that he wasn’t a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of his book The Shining, so seventeen years later he took the chance to bring the story to the screen himself. He wrote the script for a three-part mini-series that was directed by Mick Garris and aired on ABC back in 1997 – and tomorrow, March 12th, Scream Factory is giving the mini-series version of The Shining a Blu-ray release! Copies are available for purchase at This Link.
The mini-series version of The Shining has the following synopsis: Jack Torrance and his family move into the sprawling, vacant Overlook Hotel to get away from it all. Away from the alcoholism that derails Jack’s writing career. Away from the violent outbursts that mar Jack’s past. But Jack’s young son Danny knows better. He possesses a psychic gift called the shining — a gift...

The importance of costume design in movies is often overlooked. In the horror genre, a good or bad costume design can make or break a project despite the quality of everything else. Clothing and make-up are key to turning a frightening idea on paper into a truly horrific thing to look at, but the best art directors understand each monster or killer also needs to be physically unique to help the story stand out.
With recent developments in costume design techniques and special effects, horror costumes are becoming more intricate and realistic within their context. Still, there are classic designs that paved the way for the newer villains and continue to be inspirational for younger generations of filmmakers for good reasons. The all-time best horror movie costume designs like Halloween's Micheal Myers or The Exorcist's Regan are so original, scary and well-executed that they helped cement these movies as the genre's canon.

The episode of The Black Sheep covering DeepStar Six was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Sean S. Cunningham will always be primarily remembered for directing the original Friday the 13th, but he has taken the helm of some other movies that are worth checking out, like 1985’s The New Kids and the subject of the latest entry in our Black Sheep video series, DeepStar Six (get it Here).
Released in 1989 and often compared to its fellow ’89 release Leviathan (which has also gotten the Black Sheep treatment), DeepStar Six was scripted Geoff Miller and Lewis Abernathy – which is interesting because movies like Leviathan and DeepStar Six exist because James Cameron’s The Abyss was coming out the same year, and Abernathy and Cameron are pals. Abernathy even had an acting role in Titanic.

Peter Gonzales Falcon, the Texan who starred as a young Federico Fellini in the director’s semi-autobiographical Roma, has died, according to his friend Aurelio Montemayor. He was 75.
Gonzales Falcon got his start with a bit part in Viva Max (1969), a satirical film about a modern-day Mexican general (Peter Ustinov) who retakes the Alamo.
The actor went on to model for a year in London before he landed the role that would make his career.
In 2018, Gonzales Falcon related the story of auditioning for Fellini after being recommended by actor Eugene Walter, a friend of a friend:
I went to Cinecittà where there was a line about a block long with young men wanting to meet Fellini. I went around the line to the main door and buzzed. The door was opened by Liliana [Fellini’s longtime assistant] who looked like a little Edward G. Robinson and even had a cigar in her mouth.

Peter Gonzales Falcon, the actor from Texas who portrayed a young Federico Fellini in Roma, the famed Italian director’s 1972 autobiographical film, has died. He was 74.
Gonzales Falcon was found dead at his home Tuesday in La Pryor, Texas, by authorities called there for a safety check, his friend Aurelio Montemayor told The Hollywood Reporter.
After dropping out of college after being cast in Viva Max (1969), a farcical present-day comedy about retaking the Alamo, Gonzales Falcon was hired by Fellini himself for Roma, which featured cameos from Anna Magnani, Marcello Mastroianni and Gore Vidal.
Segments of the film show Gonzales Falcon as Fellini during the 1930s and ’40s after the future filmmaker arrives in Rome to pursue a career as a journalist and wanders the city to experience what it has to offer. He worked on the documentary-style feature for 41 weeks, he told author Tom Lisanti during an expansive 2018 interview.

The Chiller Channel was a huge gateway for me. I had been exposed to whatever my mom watched previous to that, or whatever weird shit I found at 2Am… it’s more than you think. Chiller brought me the things I missed out on when they originally aired. One of those is Night Visions.
Night Visions originally aired in 2001, though it was meant to air the year prior, but one of our previous series, Freakylinks took its place. I’m not upset about this– Freakylinks was the series we deserved. Then on July 6th, 2001, brooding punk poet and man of many black tees, Henry Rollins entered our homes through the small screen. He’d probably give me shit for using the word brooding.

The Primetime Emmys are not necessarily known for honoring projects featuring casts that are primarily minority/people of color. The TV academy has never, for instance, given the Best Drama Series trophy to such a show. The statuette for Best Comedy Series has been won by a series featuring a largely minority cast precisely once: “The Cosby Show” in 1985. But the category of top limited/anthology/miniseries has paid golden tribute to programs with mostly minority casts a handful of times before, helping give Netflix’s “Beef” with its predominantly Asian American lineup a genuine shot to take home the biggest prize.
“Beef” tied with “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for the most nominations among all non-regular series programs with 13. It’s presently in the lead among Gold Derby voters in the limited series race with 16/5 combined odds. Its star Ali Wong is also in first place among limited lead actresses,...

To state it outright, Shane Black's 2013 film "Iron Man 3" is one of the best films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a film not about overpowering villains or the strength of forward-assault military tactics, but about wit and character. Tony Stark spent a great deal of the film outside of his armor, mentally damaged by the trauma of fighting aliens during "The Avengers" (2012), requiring him to use his brains to solve a new crisis. He also uses his Iron Man suit to stage a daring mid-air rescue in a display of heroism frustratingly lacking from a series about superheroes.
Additionally, the film added a clever twist to its villain, a terrorist calling himself The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). While initially presented as an aggressive, violent criminal, it was eventually revealed that the Mandarin was in fact a dumb, drug-addled actor, hired by Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) to merely pose as a villain.

"RoboCop" was a hot favorite on the school playground when I was a kid. Stories of brutal cop killings and boardroom bloodbaths joined the head-popping scene from "Scanners" and the gruesome exploits of Freddy Krueger as the kind of viewing choice that separated the cool kids from the rest of us. Or at least, separated those who had access to their parents' video rental card from those who didn't.
I caught up with it again several years ago after a gap of about two decades, going in expecting a blast of pure '80s nostalgia. I got a blast alright, but there was nothing sentimental about it. Seeing it again as an adult made me realize that "RoboCop" isn't just a fun movie, it's a great one. Paul Verhoeven directs the hell out of it and there is plenty of substance and style to go with the over-the-top action.

Jenna Ortega, an actress celebrated for her sassy and snarky titular Wednesday role and her many horror movie appearances, had a role in Iron Man 3. This part in the 2013 MCU sequel was actually Ortega's first time acting in a movie. Her role was incredibly brief, but now that she has starred in many hit movies and TV shows, her small but meaningful part in the MCU is being discussed.
Ortega is known for her memorable, weighty roles, and she tends to add quirky details to each part she plays. An example of this is Ortega's lead character in Wednesday not blinking. The actress doesn't back away from emotional subjects, either. Whether playing a teenager hiding in the bathroom during a school shooting in The Fallout or a young woman curious about an adult film in Ti West's X, Ortega is always sharp, smart, and unforgettable. Still Photography on the set of “Ticket To Paradise” From the time he was born, it seemed like George Clooney was destined for a job in the public eye. After all, it ran in his family: his father was a local television mainstay in Cincinnati and several other markets, his aunt was singer and actress Rosemary Clooney, his uncle was actor José Ferrer, and his cousin was veteran character actor the late Miguel Ferrer. So, young George was exposed to show business at an early age, including several television appearances with his father. That being the case, George Clooney says that nobody was surprised when he wound up pursuing a show business career himself. It’s hard to believe that lost nerd media is still a thing in 2022. Sure, in decades past, you would have to go to a comic con to buy an unreliable DVD-r with the Roger Corman-produced Fantastic Four movie or that unaired Justice League of America tv movie with Star Trek: Picard‘s Michelle Hurd as Fire and Miguel Ferrer as villain the Weather Man. But thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can find those films with just a few keystrokes. But if Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are to be believed, their suddenly canceled movie will never be seen by audiences.

On July 17, 1987, director Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop hit theaters. The Orion Pictures sci-fi actioner went on to gross 53 million that summer and launched a franchise. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
It’s 1991 and Detroit needs a new sheriff. Even a Magnum-shooting muscleman won’t do. Motown’s taken its murder capital reputation seriously, and things are now way out of control. Normal cops can’t handle it. The new gun brought to town is large, metal, computerized and impregnable … It’s part man/part machine and Robocop can wipe out all in its path.
Similarly, this well-crafted, science-fiction actioner should wipe up massive body counts at the box office for Orion. While those whose tastes don’t include the spectacle of large machines noisily blasting at each other are not likely to be enticed by Robocop, this shocked look at...

The opening act of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is easily misread as cynical. Its first shot, a metal bat shattering a television screen, violently severs the world of Twin Peaks from the medium that originally housed it—one that, by the end of an initial 30-episode run, had curbed the vision of creators David Lynch and Mark Frost considerably. And the half-hour of material that follows is, pointedly, everything Twin Peaks isn’t. We’re in the company of two unfamiliar FBI agents, Chester Desmond (Chris Isaak) and Sam Stanley (Kiefer Sutherland), investigating the murder of an unfamiliar girl, Teresa Banks (Pamela Gidley), in an unfamiliar town, Deer Meadow. The denizens of Deer Meadow are ornery and dismissive. Desmond and Stanley, though not lacking charm, are a far cry from the buoyantly charismatic Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), whose presence throughout is minimal.

Arrow Video bumps yet another of its top special edition titles up to 4K Ultra HD, just for home theater enthusiasts after the best and brightest of big screen experiences. The movie looks better than ever, and although the unrated version still packs too much gore overkill for average viewers, we respect the Horror-Comic vibe it was meant to conjure. As sci-fi satire Robo still carries a big stick: Edward Neumeier’s anti-corporate, anti-privatization message comes through loud, clear, and profane.

"RoboCop" is considered a classic of '80s action cinema due to its high-concept story, the surprising emotional depths of said story, and the gobs of ultraviolence that are liberally sprinkled throughout that story. Peter Weller's Alex Murphy is literally shot to pieces before being rebuilt as a cyborg, Bob Morton (Miguel Ferrer) has his kneecaps blown out by Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith), and one of Boddicker's henchman has a run-in with a vat of toxic waste. To think this film has spawned ad campaigns for fried chicken and even has not one, but two animated spinoffs!
