As it turns out, Zendaya would never let go of playing Ronnie Spector. Five years after it was announced that the Emmy Award-winning Euphoria star would embody the Ronettes lead singer in a feature film, Deadline reported on Wednesday that the A24 project had secured a new director in Oscar winner Barry Jenkins. Dave Kajganich, a frequent Luca Guadagnino collaborator, is now writing the screenplay after Pulitzer Prize winner Jackie Sibblies Drury was initially mentioned as a possible screenwriter in 2020 when the project was first announced.
Deadline offered no timeline for the Spector film, but it’s safe to assume it’ll be a while. Jenkins was recently attached to direct a science-fiction movie for Universal with Glen Powell in a lead role. At the same time, Zendaya is seemingly constantly busy and now filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. However, whenever the project comes to fruition and lands an actual release date,...

Timothée Chalamet stars as the folk legend in this Oscar-nominated biopic, now streaming on Hulu.
I love a good biopic — especially when it digs into music history. There’s just something about tracing the roots of a sound or an artist that hits deeper than your average rise-and-fall story. “A Complete Unknown” is the latest to do just that, turning the early days of Bob Dylan into a full-on cinematic experience. Directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet as Dylan himself, this one zeroes in on the moment he shocked the folk world by plugging in and going electric. Whether you’re a Dylan diehard or just here for the awards buzz, “A Complete Unknown” is worth queuing up. You can stream it starting Thursday, March 27 on Hulu.

Over the past four months, Bob Dylan has been closer to the forefront of popular culture than any other time in recent memory. This is largely due to Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan in the authorized biopic A Complete Unknown, which grossed over $130 million, earned eight Academy Award nominations, and introduced deep cuts like “Outlaw Blues” and “Three Angels” to a mass audience on a surreal episode of Saturday Night Live that Chalamet hosted as part of his Oscar campaign.

The Oscars may be in the rearview mirror, but seven of this year's Academy Award acting nominees could find themselves competing once again ... at the 2025 Emmys.
Mikey Madison and Zoe Saldaña, the respective Oscar winners for Anora (Best Actress) and Emilia Pérez (Best Supporting Actress), will be seeking Emmy nominations this year for vastly different TV projects. Madison will submit for the 50-year-old sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live and the limited series Lady in the Lake, while Saldaña will be eligible for Season 2 of the spy thriller Lioness.
Speaking of SNL, Timothée Chalamet and Ariana Grande are two other recent Oscar nominees who also hosted the program this season. Chalamet earned an Oscar nod for his portrayal of music superstar Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Grande made magic happen in Wicked as Glinda the Good Witch.
See Which categories could ‘Snow White’ seriously compete in at the Oscars?...

As his lost 70s songs emerge, the Oscar-winner and musician explains how the magic of art keeps him upbeat even after losing homes to LA fires
A rainy day in Santa Barbara, and Jeff Bridges sits in his garage, wondering where his favourite spectacles have got to. We are in the middle of a rangy conversation on a video call, meandering our way from Bob Dylan to the anthropomorphism of bees, via Crazy Heart, Cutter’s Way and The Big Lebowski. There are sidetracks and double-backs and loose threads. Intermittently, an unseen assistant hands the actor pairs of glasses seemingly identical to the ones he is already wearing. Bridges, in a soft brown cardigan, inspects each pair and dismisses them. “Where was I?” he asks.
The garage here serves as Bridges’ jam space and ceramics workshop. He has drums set up for his grandson, and a picture of Captain Beefheart on the wall.

Courtney Love announced earlier this month that she plans to make the United Kingdom her new home, as the rock icon and actor criticized President Donald Trump and took aim at what his administration is up to back home, referring to the president and his cronies as “emperor-core.”
Love, 60, has lived in London for five years and plans to commit to life in Blighty, she told the crowd on March 4 at an event at the Royal Geographical Society in London. The rocker is applying for British citizenship and should be an official ex-patriot by the end of 2025, Love told the crowd, who applauded the news.
“I’m really glad I’m here,” she said at the event. “It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!

Tantalized by the buzz around James Mangold‘s historical rock drama A Complete Unknown? By the end of the month all you’ll need to see it is a Hulu subscription. It’s been announced for a March 27 streaming debut. The title itself is referring to its subject, Bob Dylan…one of the most iconic rock and roll artists of all time, and certainly not an unknown person. Yet there was a time when nobody knew who Dylan was. He arrived in 1961 New York at just nineteen, hailing from Minnesota, and he knew no one either. As luck would have it, he would not only land bigger and bigger gigs but form friendships along the way with other future music stars, like Pete Seeger and Joan Baez. Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about the decision not to use an intimacy coordinator while filming sex scenes with Timothée Chalamet in A24's Marty Supreme, a ping-pong movie that is directed by Josh Safdie. The Oscar-winning actress told Vanity Fair that there is "a lot of sex" in the seemingly steamy sports movie, but having acted out intimate scenes many times during her long and successful career in the industry, she didn't feel the need for extra assistance when it came to getting physical with her co-star. She admitted that she would feel "stifled" by the input.
"We said, 'I think we're good. You can step a little bit back. I don't know how it is for kids who are starting out, but… if someone is like, 'Okay, and then he's going to put his hand here.' I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that."

It would be too easy to shunt indie-pop idea machine Japanese Breakfast’s records into categories — here’s the sad one, the science fiction one, the happy one — especially given the title of her latest, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). It’s spelled out in the title, right? Not quite. Michelle Zauner is too canny (and talented) to be pigeon-holed. Her fourth record may thrum with melancholy, but it’s way more than just “sad girl music.”

Courtney Love has announced that she has applied for British citizenship.
The former Hole singer revealed the news on March 4th during a conversation with Todd Almond at London’s Geographical Society, the same event that saw her perform a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.”
“I’m really glad I’m here,” she said, as reported by the Daily Mail. “It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me.”
Love has lived in London since 2019 and has previously cited the city’s lifestyle and privacy laws as main reasons for her residence. As for whether her British citizenship was politically motivated, Love didn’t explicitly admit as much, though she did criticize the Trump administration.

These days, it seems like all anyone can talk about in Hollywood are "nepo babies." Originating in the early 2020s, "nepo baby" describes individuals whose success can be attributed to a parent or relative's previous success in the same industry due to nepotism. Plenty of celebrities have achieved accolades without fans knowing about their famously talented families. Some of the most iconic A-listers in film and TV owe their successes to extreme privilege, such as people like Ben Stiller, or Zoë Kravitz.
Most of the time, nepo babies are forced to wear their privilege on their sleeves just by virtue of their names, as Allison Williams (daughter of former NBC anchor Brian Williams) told Wired, "It doesn't feel like a loss to admit it ... If you trust your own skill, I think it becomes very simple to acknowledge." Others, like Jamie Lee Curtis, have spoken out against the ridicule towards nepotism babies in pop culture.

It's hard to see from the outside just how strange the cult of celebrity is. When someone rises to the level of fame that creates a true 'movement' around their art, an entire society, sometimes even the world, gets caught up in the ideas of their genius. We rarely get a moment to look at this, and what it means or could lead to, because we are all under the spell. Opus wants to solve that problem, with writer/director Mark Anthony Green holding a mirror to this phenomenon from the very first frames of the movie. We watch in slow motion as people of all ages and walks of life 'rock out' to some pop-phenom's music. Becoming the observer of this makes it all instantly silly, strange, and a bit creepy.
But it's not that weird. We've seen fans drooling, falling, and dying for glimpses of their celebrity idols for decades.

One of last year's biggest box office bombs has become a hit on Amazon Prime Video as the Robbie Williams biopic, Better Man - the singing anthropomorphic chimpanzee movie - hit number two in the United States and Canada. As of this writing, the film sits at numbers six and five, respectively.
The film premiered at the 2024 Telluride Film Festival last August before debuting on Christmas Day in the United States and in Australia and the UK the next day. Despite its surprisingly high 88% critical and 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the $110 million production completely bombed at the box office. It earned a measly $20.3 million worldwide with only $1.9 million domestic. That doesn't include marketing costs and revenue sharing with theaters, which could make it one of the biggest box office bombs in history.

With movie awards season over, and rumors that Adrian Brody’s Oscar acceptance speech is finally coming to an end, the year 2025 sees a surprising amount of faces coming straight back into the conversation. For one, Zoe Saldaña will be putting her Supporting Actress Oscar to good use on the publicity trail for one of the biggest tentpoles of the year: James Cameron’s Fire and Ash, the third in the Avatar series, in which she reprises her role as Na’vi princess Neytiri.
It doesn’t seem especially likely that lightning will strike twice for Saldaña, but the win will bring extra gravitas to the franchise, which secured four nominations (including Best Picture) last time. Fire and Ash hits cinemas in the middle of December, usually a risky strategy, awards-wise — think Wonka, Nosferatu and even A Complete Unknown — but Cameron has good form on this front, and, presumably for...

Joan Baez shared a stern message about U.S. politics during her Wednesday night appearance on the season premiere of “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney.”
Before telling a story about Martin Luther King Jr., who she said was a “funny person,” Baez paused the show to “set the context” for the current state of American leadership.

While she never mentioned them by name, Baez was most likely referring to President Donald Trump and Tesla founder Elon Musk, who has been slashing federally funded programs through his Department of Government Efficiency.

It’s a little more than a decade since Benmont Tench released his debut solo LP, You Should Be So Lucky, but for the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist, it feels like a lifetime ago. There’s been a lot of joy in the intervening years, most notably his 2015 marriage to Alice Carbone Tench, and the birth of their daughter, Catherine. Pigeon Shrine FrightFest Glasgow audiences were treated to a séance gone horribly wrong this weekend as Scared to Death made its International Premiere on Saturday 8th March. Produced by Eric Barrett and directed by Paul Boyd, this comedy-horror hybrid blends Hollywood satire, supernatural terror, and pitch-black humour, all wrapped up in a delightfully sinister premise.
Starring Lin Shaye, Bill Moseley, and Rae Dawn Chong, Scared to Death follows an ambitious young filmmaker who convinces his cast and crew to attend a real séance in the abandoned children’s shelter where they’re shooting their latest horror film. But what begins as a quirky publicity stunt soon descends into a nightmare, as the ghosts of long-dead orphans – and something far worse – come out to play.

Few wardrobe staples are as iconic as a denim jacket and musicians have long embraced the layering piece as part of their on-stage — and off-stage — looks. From Bob Marley and Bob Dylan to Madonna and Pharrell, a denim jacket can be at once luxe and laidback, spanning genres as varied as country and hip-hop, and all ages, genders and personal expressions too.
More proof of a jean jacket resurgence?...
