“Reagan,” the Dennis Quaid-led biopic about Ronald Reagan that became a sleeper hit in the U.S. last year, earning $30 million, is going global thanks to Universal Pictures Content Group, which is set to release the film internationally.

The film was directed by Sean McNamara and stars Quaid as the Hollywood star turned Republican president alongside a cast including Penelope Ann Miller as First Lady Nancy Reagan, Mena Suvari as his first wife Jane Wyman, Lesley-Anne Down as Margaret Thatcher, Kevin Dillon as Jack L. Warner and Jon Voight as Petrovich, a Soviet who claims to have spied on Reagan for years. It released theatrically in the U.S. on August 30 by ShowBiz Direct, with Lionsgate handling ancillary. The Oscars will honor the best movie of the year this Sunday, but the infamous Razzie Awards have crowned the “worst” of 2024’s films.

Sony’s much-derided superhero film “Madame Web” has the (dis)honor of winning three Razzies, including worst picture, actress for Dakota Johnson and screenplay. “Joker: Folie à Deux,” another divisive superhero entry,” led with seven nominations and took home screen combo for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.

Francis Ford Coppola won for directing his big-budget epic “Megalopolis,” and star Jon Voight won supporting actor for the film — shared with his turns in “Reagan,” “Shadow Land” and “Strangers.” Coppola’s “Megalopolis” received six nominations, which was tied for second-most nods with “Madame Web,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan.”

The famed filmmaker responded to his Razzies on Instagram, saying “box office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics has no true place in our future.

The results are in on the 2025 Razzie Awards where the year’s “worst” movies are recognized and awarded.

The annual ceremony, which traditionally takes place just ahead of the Oscars, went down on Friday (February 28).

Going into the event, Borderlands, Joker: Folie a Deux, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan led the field of nominees with six nods a piece. After it was all said and done, Madame Web took home the most “wins,” receiving three trophies.

The Academy Awards take place on Sunday evening and, as has become the tradition, the full list of "winners" from the 2025 Razzie Awards has just been unveiled.

Madame Web took three wins for "Worst Picture," "Worst Screenplay," and an arguably well-deserved "Worst Actress" for lead star Dakota Johnson. It wasn't the only comic book adaptation to walk away with a prize, though, as Joker: Folie à Deux nabbed "Worst Sequel" and "Worst Screen Combo" for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

The vast majority of celebrities and filmmakers ignore the Razzies, while few interviewers have the nerve - and understandably so - to ask celebrities about their "wins."

The 45th Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) will be held on March 1, 2025, to recognize the worst films of 2024. The nominees were originally set to be announced on January 16, but due to wildfires in Southern California, the announcement was delayed several times, eventually being revealed on January 21.

The nominees were chosen by 1,202 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation, including movie fans, critics, and journalists. This year, many comic book adaptations received nominations, such as ‘The Crow,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’

Several well-known actors, including Ariana DeBose, Cate Blanchett, and Joaquin Phoenix, were also mentioned, with Jon Voight getting a nod for his roles in four films. 2024 was really bad for superhero adaptations considering that the movies received eighteen nominations overall.

Joker: Folie à Deux leads the Razzie Awards noms, which recognize the worst movies and performances of the year, with a total of seven mentions.

Borderlands, Madame Web, Megalopolis and Reagan followed with six noms apiece, it was announced Tuesday. Unfrosted landed with four noms, while The Crow nabbed two noms.

Among the actors receiving mentions were Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Lady Gaga and Jon Voight, one of President Donald Trump’s newly appointed “Ambassadors to Hollywood,” who was nominated for his performances in a “near record” four films in one year.

Organizers joked that the worst picture nominees will compete for a “$4.97 gold spray-painted” statuette and shared their thoughts on each of the films in contention (see below).

Despite a high audience score on Rotten Tomatoes that saw a 98% total, Reagan has proven divisive for critics, having settled with a 17% Tomatometer score.

Despite being panned by critics, according to a weekend box office report by Deadline, Reagan has officially crossed the $25 million milestone. Earlier this month, we got to sit down for a second time with Voight (you can check out our previous interview here) to learn how he approached the role of Viktor Petrovich Ivanov, a former Kgb agent who plays a major role in this new biopic.

During our conversation, the legendary Hollywood star broke down his approach to playing the real-life figure, sharing some fascinating insights into how he physically transformed into the Russian.

Star of the new movie Reagan, Dennis Quaid, appears to be setting up Facebook to blame if his new biopic about the late president fails to be a hit in theaters. Quaid claims that the social media site is "censoring the free flow of ideas" by not allowing an ad for Reagan to be monetarily boosted, thus causing it to have less of an impact on moviegoers who might have otherwise been inclined to check out the film had they seen the promo on Facebook. Jakes died Saturday in Sarasota, Florida, his lawyer and literary agent Frank R. Curtis announced.

Jakes, who during his career wrote more than 80 books, which sold more than 120 million copies worldwide, earned $25 when his first short story was published by The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction when he was 18.

He spent 17 years as an advertising copywriter and creative director before he broke through at age 42 with the 1974 publication of The Bastard, the first of eight paperbacks under the umbrella known as The Kent Family Chronicles. Those books, which depicted American history through the lives of a fictional clan, were written to capitalize on the U.S. bicentennial celebrations that peaked in 1976.
