Awhoooo! The werewolf is back in the new Comic-Con trailer for “Wolf Man,” which is coming to theaters this winter from Blumhouse and Universal.
Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a husband and father who gets attacked by a werewolf and contracts an infection that starts turning him into a werewolf, too. He starts acting strangely and scarily. At one point, we hear what he hears when his Charlotte (three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner) is speaking to him, and it doesn’t even sound like words. As he transforms from man to beast, Charlotte tries to escape from their rural farmhouse with their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) before it’s too late.
The horror thriller comes from director Leigh Whannell, who also wrote the script with Corbett Tuck. Whannell previously made 2020’s much-acclaimed “The Invisible Man,” another reimaging of a classic Universal Monsters character. In an interview with DiscussingFilm,...

"We were attacked... I think my husband was infected." Universal has debuted the full official trailer for the new Wolf Man movie, arriving in theaters January 2025 early next year. The shorter teaser debuted just last month, but there's plenty more frightening footage to see here. Produced by Jason Blum & Blumhouse, this a fresh update on the classic Universal Monster originally invented with the 1941 film The Wolf Man. Most recently there was the 2010 remake called The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro (anyone remember it?) plus tons of other werewolf flicks. From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man. The new tagline: "What if someone you loved became something else?" A man must save himself and his family when they are stalked, terrorized, and haunted by a deadly werewolf at night during a full moon.

Isabelle Huppert, the Oscar-nominated star of “Elle,” spoke candidly about her career choices and made the audience laugh with her self-deprecating humor at a masterclass held at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon.
The French actor, who is also being honored with the fest’s lifetime achievement Lumière prize, revealed that she had seen very few movies when she started acting some 50 years ago. But that didn’t prevent her from working with some of Europe’s most talented filmmakers, including Claude Chabrol, Michael Haneke and Paul Verhoeven.
“We didn’t go to cinemas as much back then,” she said during the on-stage conversation with Lumiere Film Festival’s boss Thierry Fremaux, who is also Cannes chief. Claire Denis (“White Material”) and Francois Ozon, who have directed Huppert in several films, were sitting on the front row.
“When I started making films, I had seen very few. I’ve still seen few by the way.

Isn’t it funny how life throws curveballs that shake up everything only to clear the path for something better? Take Taylor Sheridan, for instance. This remarkable storyteller may not have exited Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy on the best terms, but that twist of fate opened the door to greener pastures—or, more accurately, vast Montana landscapes with a side of high-stakes drama.

After donning his leather jacket and stepping into the shoes of David Hale on Sons of Anarchy, things took a nosedive. Sheridan’s journey on the show didn’t wrap up with a grand finale; instead, it felt like a bumpy ride through a pothole-ridden road, complete with frustrations over creative differences. Rather than stew in disappointment, Sheridan decided to take the bull by the horns and pivot to writing.

For years, Mark Ruffalo has been an advocate for the Indigenous peoples’ rights, fighting against oil companies and fracking, and defending the tradition of communities like the Wetʼsuwetʼen First Nations in British Columbia. In his efforts to raise awareness and bring back equanimity between the corporate world and the native one, the actor has stood his ground, strong and firmly immovable.

However, some celebrities even apart from the Avengers star have attempted to avenge the Indigenous population’s right over the lands where they come from. One actor in particular, Benicio Del Toro, has taken matters into his own hands after the recent polarizing Presidential debate between rival candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris that hurled a malignant spotlight on the immigration policies of the United States.

Sicario and Traffic star Benicio Del Toro has spoken out against the dehumanizing aspect of the debate around immigration in the lead-up to the U.S. presidential elections.
The actor was pressed on the topic during a masterclass on his career at France’s classic film-focused Lumiere Film Festival.
“You can’t group people and say they’re all bad people. For the most part, what I know is that most of the people that are trying to get to America, they’re trying to improve their lives, because there’s problems in their hometowns, or wherever they come from, they’re trying to better their lives,” he said.
“That said, I think that borders have to be respected, but when you group people and you put them in a position where they become subhuman, then that’s really scary. I don’t subscribe to treating anyone like they’re...

Denis Villeneuve charmed his 2000-strong audience at the London Film Festival with a personal review of his long career, including his number one rule for creating a happy film set.
The Dune director was asked how he deals with A-list egoes on his huge film sets, and replied directly: “First rule: you avoid the assholes.”
Asked if he would name anyone in particular, he tactfully demurred, saying instead he considered it “a game” to get the best out of any actor he recruited to appear in a film.
Villeneuve also intimated his desire to make a dialogue-free film at some point. He said:
“I love dialogue, but not [always] in cinema,” explaining that it was sometimes better suited to theatre or television. “I hope one day I will be able to make a film that will not use spoken language. I try as much as possible to use the power of images.

The 2007 crime drama "American Gangster" began its life as a 2000 New York Times article called "The Return of Superfly," written by journalist Marc Jacobs. The article detailed the rise and fall of Frank Lucas, a Harlem drug kingpin who operated in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Lucas was apprehended and jailed in 1976 and sentenced to 70 years in prison, but was able to get his sentence shortened by becoming an FBI informant. He was a criminal who took a job with the cops -- notably, Detective Richie Roberts -- who collared him.
Star screenwriter Steve Zaillian wrote a massively long adaptation of Jacobs' article and showed it to director Ridley Scott as early as 2002. Scott declined to direct it, however, choosing to work on his ancient war epic "Kingdom of Heaven" instead. The screenplay, called "True Blu" at the time, also crossed the desk of Brian de Palma. Jennifer Garner looked stunning in a Versace gown that was custom-made just for her during the 2016 Academy Awards event. It was right after her split from Ben Affleck and she had the ultimate post-breakup look in the gown. However, Garner had to sacrifice a lot to transform into that beautiful look, which she hilariously explained later to Jimmy Fallon.

Garner’s dress was one of the most Googled outfits of the Oscar evening of 2016. Her hilarious story about how she was put into the dress and her bathroom emergency during the ceremony could also add to the reason why her dress was searched on Google that many times.

The full moon no longer seems to be shining in the night sky over Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights event. Earlier this month a photo op was set up where guests could both interact with and take pictures with the Wolf Man, specifically the one from the upcoming 2025 reimagining from Blumhouse.

However, after a month, the display is gone. The area that once featured a backdrop with the Wolf Man logo and props to better immerse guests has now been replaced with a generic “Halloween Horror Nights” backdrop.
The disappearance of the display might have to do with the massive online backlash over the reveal of the monster’s design. He looked less like a wolf and more like a goblin from the Harry Potter films.

Early next year, Universal and Blumhouse will continue their reanimation of the Universal Monsters with the release of director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. Whannell, who also directed Insidious 3 and Upgrade for Blumhouse, was the man responsible for bringing The Invisible Man back to life in 2020. He did so with a modern twist on the character that turned out to be more than just a moderate success. The Invisible Man raked in $144 million on a $7 million budget, receiving mostly positive reviews.
With horror doing better than ever at the box office and Whannell arguably without a miss on his directing resume, hopes are high for Wolf Man, howling into theaters on January 17, 2025.
But this isn’t the first time a modern Wolf Man project sounded good on paper…

What if someone you loved became something else?
From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man.
Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte, fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger.
But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to...

Spooky season may be fast approaching, but if Universal Pictures has its way it'll last all the way into January. Today, the first official teaser for Wolf Man was unveiled. If this is the first you're hearing about it...well, it's exactly what it sounds like. This is Universal and Blumhouse's take on the classic 1941 Universal monster flick, about a werewolf who howls at the moon, chomps up unfortunates who stray into his path, and otherwise does the things you'd expect a werewolf to do.
In this latest version of the Wolf Man, it seems like he'll be dealing with an awful lot of emotional turmoil as well. In the teaser, which you can watch above, we see the first terrifying hints of the Wolf Man's transformation, and how his family reacts to having a lycanthrope in their midst.

Earlier this year, it was announced that a remake of the 1941 horror movie classic The Wolf Man was being made at Blumhouse. Filming began in March with Leigh Whannell, the director behind the successful 2020 remake of The Invisible Man, returning and Christopher Abbot playing the titular monster. The movie is the latest in the reimagining of the classic monsters from the studio behind the Paranormal Activity franchise.
Many were curious as to how the studio would handle the story, as their take on the Invisible Man was very different form the 1933 original. The last time The Wolf Man was seen on screen was the 2010 version starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.
Now, at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event in Universal Studios, guests got a sneak peak at the look of this new Wolf Man version and it is, well…

Luis Ortega’s “Kill the Jockey” gallops onscreen with a surreal drama of mob hit men, romance, and spiraling self-destruction.
The feature, which premiered at Venice and will screen at TIFF, is directed by Ortega from a script he co-wrote with Rodolfo Palacios and Fabián Casas. Nahuel Pérez Biscayart leads the film as a wayward jockey caught up in a mob-run racing syndicate while suffering from substance abuse. Oh, and he’s trying to outrun someone they’ve sent to kill him.
The official synopsis reads: “Remo Manfredini (Biscayart) is a legendary jockey, but his self-destructive behaviour is beginning to outshine his talent and threaten his relationship with his girlfriend Abril (Úrsula Corberó). On the day of the most important race of his career that will clear him of his debts from his mobster boss Sirena (Daniel Giménez Cacho), he has a severe accident, disappears from the hospital and wanders the streets of Buenos Aires.

A miasma of secrecy has long surrounded Boogie Nights and Licorice Pizza director Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, which was shot under the production title BC Project.
According to reporter Jeff Sneider (via World of Reel), however, its title has emerged: The Battle Of Baktan Cross. That certainly lines up with set photographs that have dribbled out of the production, several of which show a police car with the words “City of Baktan Cross” emblazoned on the side.
We haven’t seen so much as a logline emerge from the production to date, though again, set photographs give us a few clues here: it appears to be some sort of heist thriller, with stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor both pictured wielding guns. In one image, DiCaprio’s...

Joe Johnston’s 1991 superhero movie The Rocketeer begins in the usual way, with orange opening credits against a black screen. Only the slight tinkling of piano hints at something greater, little notes of inspiration under the art deco script on display. Sure enough, after the title reveal, the score pauses. The black screen is revealed to actually be the doors of a hangar bay, and the strings in James Horner’s score rise to a crescendo. They are announcing the hopes hanging on the yellow biplane that emerges.
A warm, confident scene of pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) proving to his mechanic Peevey (Alan Arkin) and their pals that he’s got what it takes to win a race is an odd way to open a superhero movie, even one of the pulp-inspired films that Hollywood cranked out after Batman hit it big in 1989. By the end of The Rocketeer,...

Emily Blunt has landed a lot of fan-favorite roles and worked with a multiplicity of filmmakers and screenwriters throughout her career, with Taylor Sheridan being one of them since the pair worked on Sicario together. In fact, her iconic role of Kate Macer in this very movie was one that the studios wanted for a male actor.

Fortunately for her, all of this ended up in her favor in more than one way. For one, Blunt managed to score the role in the $85 million movie instead of letting herself get replaced by a male actor. For another, after getting cast in the role, she perfectly laid down her one demand on how she was going to play her character in that macho world which was effectively taken care of by the director.

The 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (June 28 to July 6) boasted not one but two competitions, the Crystal Globe and Proxima, presided over by the festival president Jiří Bartoška, artistic director Karel Och, and executive director Kryštof Mucha. The festival is the main summer event in the country, which attracts many sponsors and patrons who want to attend, and faces none of the financial hardships of such festivals as Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance. 130 films are shown, with 140,000 tickets sold. There is no room for growth, given the limited venues, from the many screening rooms at the festival hub, the Hotel Thermal, where juror Christine Vachon mixed Negronis for her fellow jurors between screenings, to the colorful arthouse Kino Drahomira, named after a revered Czech woman director.
