It’s a good time to be an Alan Rudolph fan. Last fall, Shout! Studios released a gorgeous restoration of Rudolph’s unjustly maligned satire “Breakfast of Champions,” and this month Rudolph enters the Criterion Collection with a new 4K Uhd edition of his deliriously romantic and unclassifiable “Choose Me.”
A hypnotic noir-inflected fever dream following the intersecting love stories of a group of strangers who frequent the same smoky bar, “Choose Me” is vintage Rudolph: hyper-stylized, hilarious, and concerned with universal ideas expressed in the most idiosyncratic possible manner.
When Rudolph came to write and direct “Choose Me” in 1984, he was at a crossroads in his career, having made two excellent but unpopular movies (“Welcome to L.A.” and “Remember My Name”) outside the system and two studio pictures (“Roadie” and “Endangered Species”) on which Rudolph felt suffocated after his liberating apprenticeship as an assistant director under Robert Altman on “The Long Goodbye” and “Nashville.

The action drama series Tracker was an instant hit for CBS, sharing the top ratings spots with Kathy Bates' Matlock. The procedural features Justin Hartley in the lead, widely known for his standout role as Kevin on This Is Us. As a lone wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw, he makes his way in the world by tracking down missing people for both law enforcement and private citizens. However, part of Tracker's charm in the first season was Robin Weigert as Teddi, who, along with her wife Velma, keeps the business side of Cole's job running smoothly while he's out in the field.
However, before the start of Season 2, it was revealed that Weigert would not be continuing her role on the show. Though not uncommon for actors to abruptly leave projects, it was a bit of a shock due to her significant presence in the first season and the...

Spoiler Alert !!!Turn back now if you want to avoid the spoilers for The Devil and the Daylong Brothers!
Sometimes, the best stories are the ones that come out of left field, the ones you didn’t see coming, and The Devil and the Daylong Brothers is definitely one of those. Picture this: a Southern Gothic, a sprinkle of folklore, a dash of violence, and a whole lot of music—it sounds like a cocktail of chaos, doesn’t it?
Directed by Brandon McCormick, this film stirs up a cocktail of action, fantasy, and musical flair in ways that’ll keep you guessing. And while it may not always hit every high note, it certainly manages to strum a few unforgettable riffs that stick.

This article discusses death by suicide.
Of course, John Lithgow wins the award for the best guest star on Dexter. It’s impossible to forget his menacing character The Trinity Killer. The same goes for other high-profile stars who appeared on one or more seasons, like Keith Carradine, Julia Stiles, Colin Hanks, Mark Pellegrino, Jimmy Smits, and Yvonne Strahovski.
But beyond these few, there were many stars who had guest roles on the show, some even for multiple seasons, that fans who originally watched almost 20 years ago may have forgotten about. In some cases, these actors didn’t get their big breakout role, or at least the role that fans of this generation know them for, until after they were on Dexter. But for fans watching or re-watching now, it’s a pleasant surprise to see them pop up.

Many fans of Dexter have been watching Dexter: Original Sin, and the fantastic prequel has prompted some, present company included, to re-watch the original. The original show premiered in 2006, which was almost 20 years ago. So, it’s easy to forget a lot of the minor details. One such detail is just how close Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) came to being caught... on more than one occasion.
In Season 2, the dismembered bodies wrapped in garbage bags that Dexter had been so neatly disposing of for years finally rose to the surface. Piecing everything together (literally), Miami Metro P.D. theorized that there was a serial killer in action, whom they named the Bay Harbor Butcher. They brought in Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine) to assist, a man with a reputation for solving cases and a specialty in investigating serial killers. There has been renewed interest in Dexter thanks to streaming on Netflix along with spin-offs like Dexter: New Blood and, more notably, the recently released prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. Fans who watched the original back when it first debuted on Showtime might be floored to learn that it has been almost 20 years since Dexter premiered back in 2006 and became one of the most popular shows of the 2000s.
In those two decades, it’s easy to forget a lot of small details about the show. There are pivotal plot points, of course, that no one can forget. But even die-hard fans might have completely let their memories slip about some of the more subtle details and even a few things viewers might not even have noticed the first time around.

In a sit-down conversation with uInterview, actor Keith Carradine reflected on his time filming the drama series Dexter, which follows a serial killer (Michael C. Hall) with a code of conduct to only kill guilty individuals. Carradine appeared in 15 episodes of the show from 2007 to 2009, playing FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy. His character developed a romantic relationship with the character Debra Morgan, played by Jennifer Carpenter. Notably, the two characters have a 30-year age gap. Carradine spoke to uInterview founder Erik Meers about his time on the show. “I credit Jennifer Carpenter with making my character work because the idea of that sort of Spring-September romance, it’s always dangerous and there is the possibility of the ick factor there, this older guy with this younger woman, and is that going to play, is it going to be accepted, is the audience going to approve of this – and I really...

In a sit-down conversation with uInterview, veteran actor Keith Carradine delved into what draws him to a role on screen and what captivated him about his character in his new movie, Laws of Man. Laws of Man is a period movie that takes place at the start of the Cold War and follows U.S. Marshalls Frank and Tommy as they work to find a wanted murderer in the deserts of Nevada. Carradine shared an overview of his character with uInterview founder Erik Meers. “He’s basically, he’s a crooked FBI man,” Carradine said. “And I thought it would be fun…I thought, ‘That’s a fun role, I’m going to have a good time being that guy.’ Because on Dexter, obviously I was a not crooked FBI agent in pursuit of that serial killer. So to play an FBI agent on the wrong side of the law was fun.

There have been well over ten different Spider-Man series throughout the years. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man started strong, but that does not guarantee the rest of the series will maintain the same quality. Some Spider-Man series have begun well but later became subpar, while others had middling premiere episodes yet went on to become some of the best superhero cartoons ever.
Whether a Spider-Man series starts with an origin story or jumps straight into the action, its premiere episode is crucial for setting the tone and, most importantly, establishing what kind of Peter Parker fans will follow throughout the series. The best Spider-Man premieres lay the groundwork for future supporting characters that Peter Parker can interact and grow with.

Eric Weissmann, the veteran entertainment attorney who repped Rita Hayworth, Robert Altman, Elizabeth Taylor and Gene Wilder in a career that lasted more than five decades, has died. He was 94.
Weissmann died Dec. 15 in Denver of natural causes, his granddaughter Sara McCrea told The Hollywood Reporter.
His clients also included David Carradine and Keith Carradine, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert Aldrich, Paul Mazursky and Mark Rydell.
In 2012, Weissmann founded his own practice after spending many years as a senior partner with the Beverly Hills firm Weissmann Wolff Bergman Coleman Grodin. “I look forward to enjoying the freedom of being on my own and devoting full time to my clients,” he said then.
That move came in the wake of Weissmann Wolff merging with Sacramento-based Weintraub Genshlea Chediak Tobin & Tobin, effectively bringing to an end an entertainment law firm that had been a player in Hollywood since the early 1980s.

Actor Harrison Ford has been pretty picky about his roles over the years, carefully choosing roles that suit his cocky charm, but he hasn't always made perfect choices. While the actor has dozens of truly great movies under his belt, he also has a few stinkers, like historical submarine thriller "K-19: The Widowmaker" and utopia-building drama "The Mosquito Coast," though Ford has rather thoroughly defended both. There's one box office bomb that he hasn't been as effusive about, however, in large part because he was admittedly never on the film's wavelength.
The 2011 sci-fi action western "Cowboys & Aliens" had all of the ingredients for major blockbuster box office success. Based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's 2006 Platinum Studios graphic novel of the same name, "Cowboys & Aliens" was directed by Jon Favreau, fresh off the success of the first two "Iron Man" films. Ambition outstrips expertise in writer-director Phil Blattenberger’s “Laws of Man,” whose serpentine plot winds up seeming a wild goose chase — one whose execution should have been, well, wilder. Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Set in 1963, it takes a big narrative leap toward the end that suggests an intent closer to such willfully over-the-top Cold War paranoia fantasias as “Dr. Strangelove” and “Winter Kills.” But the satirical edge which might’ve pulled off that gambit is absent throughout, making for a whole that’s peculiar without ever being very engaging. Saban is releasing the feature to U.S. theaters, digital and On Demand platforms Jan. 10.

Ridley Scott claims that his debut 1977 movie would have won one of the biggest film prizes had it not been for $50K bribery. The English director is perhaps best known for his iconic sci-fi films, Alien and Blade Runner, which were only the second and third films of his career. A few years earlier, he made his feature directorial debut in 1977 with a lesser-known historical drama, his first in the genre before directing many more in Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Duel, and Napoleon.
Scott's later historical epic Gladiator did win arguably the biggest prize in film, the Academy Award for Best Picture, in 2001, while his 2016 sci-fi film The Martian was also nominated for the honor. Additionally, Scott has received an Oscar nomination for Best Director three times for Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down. Like many sitcoms of its kind, The Big Bang Theory was no stranger to guest appearances, and a good amount of them left a notable impact on the fanbase. While it’s hard to imagine the sitcom without its main cast, which involves Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Raj, and Howard, this didn’t stop some other less trivial characters from making a splash.

From time to time, "The Big Bang Theory" would bring on some pretty big names to play the family members of its main characters. Just to name a few, Christine Baranski plays Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, mother to Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Laurie Metcalf plays Sheldon Cooper's (Jim Parsons) mom Mary Cooper, and Kathy Bates shows up as Mrs. Fowler, the mom of Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). Dads get some play too; memorably, Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) dad Wyatt is played by "Revenge of the Nerds" star Keith Carradine. But what about Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg? We hear but never see his mother, voiced by character actor Carol Ann Susi, but we never meet his dad. Apparently, though, Helberg and some of the show's producers really, really wanted "Ghostbusters," "Little Shop of Horrors," and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" star Rick Moranis to play Mr. Wolowitz.

One of our favorite times of the month is when the Criterion Collection drops their releases for the months ahead and the batch its announced for March certainly doesn’t disappoint. Ranging from dark rom-coms to monster movies, Criterion is adding some proper deep cuts, as well as 4K restorations of two films that are already part of the collection.
The first film given the Criterion treatment is Alan Rudolph’s “Choose Me,” starring Keith Carradine and Lesley Ann Warren. Set in Los Angeles during the 1980s, the film follows a number of lovers violently weaving in and out of each other’s live, mostly crossing paths at a dive bar. A protégé of Robert Altman, Rudolph’s films, such as “Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle” and “Breakfast of Champions,” often carry a balance of absurdity and bite. Next up is the 1989 addition to the Godzilla cannon, “Godzilla vs. Biollante” from Kazuki Omori.

The '80s in film might be most notable for the domination of the summer blockbuster, which began in the previous decade with Jaws. Action stars were made from scratch and introduced to audiences all over the world, from Schwarzenegger to Van Damme to Stallone. The John Hughes revolution continued in full force, with The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Sixteen Candles sweeping audiences young and old off their feet. Most importantly, however, independent cinema continued to deliver absolute gems for the truest of movie lovers. While these films might've failed to resonate with audiences, critics, or the box office at the time, they still absolutely deserve their flowers.

Blumhouse ventured into sci-fi horror with M3GAN, a dark comedy about sentient AI. The studio followed this up with Afraid but it fell flat at the box office, marking a record low for Blumhouse in nearly a decade.
2024 marked a new low for Blumhouse Productions with the release of Afraid, a sci-fi horror about sentient AI taking over domestic life. The film is similar to Blumhouse's M3GAN but without the dark humor and satire; M3GAN was far more successful at the box office, however. Afraid was a resounding flop, barely earning back its $12 million budget. The film was also overwhelmingly panned for retreading tired tropes with a predictable narrative. Fortunately, Afraid is getting a second wind following its November debut on Netflix (per Screen Rant), ranking high on the streamer's weekly top ten list.

After it failed to garner any traction at the box office, a 2024 Blumhouse movie is finding renewed success on Netflix. The indie studio best known for their horror output has enjoyed something of a mixed bag in the past couple of years when it's come to both the critical and commercial reception to their movies. For every record-breaking M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy's, there's also been a near-franchise-destroying The Exorcist: Believer and lackluster Halloween Ends.
2024, in particular, has been something of a rockier year for Blumhouse. Having hoped to recapture the January release success of M3GAN, the horror short adaptation of Night Swim proved to be a critical misfire, albeit a modest box office success. The studio followed it up with four other releases, including the similarly panned Imaginary and the James McAvoy-starring English-language remake of Speak No Evil, which was a critical and commercial hit. The five original main cast members on "The Big Bang Theory" — namely, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Kaley Cuoco as Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz, Raj Koothrappali, and Penny, respectively — appear in basically every episode of the series, but there's one major exception. Cuoco, an avid horseback rider, got seriously injured during a ride in September 2010 — and as a result, she missed two episodes of the show's fourth season.
As Jessica Radloff details in her 2022 book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," Cuoco was riding at a ranch outside of Los Angeles when the horse unexpectedly threw her ... and stepped on her left leg. Cuoco was rushed to a hospital, and as "The Big Bang Theory" creator Chuck Lorre told Radloff, it was a rough time for the series.

An enterprising surveyor of genre and tone, Ridley Scott has earned the admiration of audiences and critics alike with a seemingly unending interest in exploring the outermost limits of his art form. The British director broke onto the scene in 1977 with “The Duellists,” a French period drama starring Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine set during the Napoleonic Wars. He returns to the early 19th century with Joaquin Phoenix as its namesake historical figure with the epic “Napoleon,” in theaters November 22.
“I first became aware of Ridley Scott with his film ‘The Duellists,'” Francis Ford Coppola recently said of Scott’s debut in an Instagram post. “I was impressed, and realizing he was my contemporary began following his work, which was prodigious to say the least. One after the other, different styles, themes — all ambitious and never stopping, absolutely great films like ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Thelma & Louise,’ ‘Alien,’ and ‘Black Hawk Down....

Pressman Film, the indie producer founded by the late Edward Pressman and behind classics from Wall Street to American Psycho, has broken new ground in film financing with the first slate listed on popular investment platform Republic.
The offering launched Sept. 5 with a goal of $1.5 million to develop a minimum of six new projects. It’s raised over $1.7 million and could see additional coin by the time it closes on Friday.
This is not crowdfunding but equity investment from — so far — 295 investors with Pressman offering rather generous returns if a project does make it into production as the indie seeks to create a brand and attract a pool of followers and potential financiers going forward. Investors can also reap premiums at other milestones including a portion of Pressman Film’s producing fee and a portion of their share of the net profits.

Don't tell Paul Mescal he can't do something unless you want to lose a fight. Doesn't matter if you're the esteemed and revered director of Gladiator II, Ridley Scott: if you tell this man he cannot do a stunt for which he's trained for months, strong words will ensue. And he will likely get what he wants, because that's the strength and pull of Paul Mescal in a nutshell. Danger be damned, he's doing it authentically.
At least when it comes to doing his own stunts for the long-awaited follow-up to the original Gladiator film. In a new interview with Variety, the Irish actor told a story about how he convinced Ridley Scott to let him do his own stunts on horseback with a lot of swearing and the promise of not one, but two Bentleys if he messed it up.

Gladiator II director Ridley Scott made a last-minute decision to let Paul Mescal perform an intensive stunt. Mescal, who plays Lucius Verus, the son of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe) and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), underwent extensive physical training in order to fully prepare himself to lead Gladiator II's cast. The sequel features a great deal of action spectacle as Lucius battles other gladiators, General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal), and ferocious animals in the Colosseum.
While speaking with Variety, Scott and Mescal discussed how the actor ended up performing a complex stunt during the movie's climax. The sequence involves Lucius riding a horse as he chases Macrinus (Denzel Washington) and Mescal "trained for fking months" in order to pull it off. However, Scott changed his mind about Mescal performing the stunt because of what happened to actor Keith Carradine during a similar stunt in Scott's feature film directorial debut, The Duellists.

With so many in-depth legal dramas on TV these days, any long-time viewer could end up feeling like a lawyer themselves after binge-watching some of the best lawyer shows. Some legal dramas spend less time than others on the law aspect, whereas others have clearly spent months researching and working with real-life defense attorneys. Many lawyer TV shows feature a different case each week, but the very best legal dramas go further than the procedural nature of the genre and take some major risks.
These shows are also nothing new to television and go back almost to the beinning. In 1957, Perry Mason made his first appearance on television in a role that Raymond Burr stretched out for a decade. Acting roles being recast at the last minute (and sometimes even in the middle of production) isn't nearly as rare as you might think. The reasons for which it might happen can range from a sudden surprise death (like Richard Harris in the Harry Potter franchise) to a difference in creative opinion (as was said to have happened between Joel Schumacher and Val Kilmer on the set of Batman Forever). Then there are movies like Francis Ford Coppola's powerful war film Apocalypse Now, in which practically everything that could go wrong during production did.

Michael J. Fox was not the original Marty McFly, as the Back To the Future leading character was actually recast partway through production.

During the 12 season run of "The Big Bang Theory," the audience meet the main characters' parents and extended families from time to time — and those parents and family members are usually played by some pretty big performers. Laurie Metcalf plays Mary Cooper, mother to Jim Parsons' Sheldon Cooper, and Tony and Emmy Award winner Christine Baranski also shows up a few times as Leonard's mother Dr. Beverly Hofstadter. Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) parents are played by Katey Sagal (in a nod to Cuoco and Sagal's sitcom "8 Simple Rules") and Keith Carradine.
So, what about Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg? We hear his mother Mrs. Wolowitz off-screen — she's voiced by Carol Ann Susi, who passed away in 2014, as did the character — but we never meet his dad. According to Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive,...

Walter Hill‘s “Southern Comfort” didn’t find an audience upon its release in 1981, but when it kicked off the first weekend of the 12th annual Beyond Fest at the American Cinematheque, it played to a sold-out crowd that responded to the film with the rapture it always deserved. Hill couldn’t have been more pleased or surprised. “When they told me they wanted to do this, I thought, ‘Christ, nobody will come,'” Hill told the audience at a post-screening Q&a. “I can’t believe that all of you came out tonight.”
Hill was joined on stage by actor Keith Carradine, his frequent collaborator on films including “The Long Riders” and “Wild Bill.” Both men agreed that Hill’s harrowing tale (cowritten with Michael Kane and David Giler) of National Guardsmen being picked off one by one by vengeful Cajuns in a Louisiana swamp was one of the...

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. Director Ridley Scott told Deadline in 2023 that he’d been offered to direct superhero movies, but that it wasn’t for him, after telling them in 2021 that modern superhero movies are “no fucking good” and “boring as shit.” He said he’d already directed at least 3 superheroes: Ellen Ripley in Alien, Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator. “The difference is,” Scott said, “the f*cking stories are better.”
The case can certainly be made that Ridley Scott has brought some of the best stories to screen that we’ve ever seen, and Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator are among them, but what about his more modern fare? Are the stories for House of Gucci, The Last Duel, and Napoleon “better”? Ridley Scott hasn’t had a movie achieve both critical and commercial success since 2015’s The Martian, which begs the question: Wtf happened to Ridley Scott?...

The sci-fi horror film Afraid is the latest creepy offering from Blumhouse Productions. However, the movie seems to have fallen flat at the box office, becoming one of the company's lowest earning projects.
According to Variety, the movie was projected to earn 3.7 million domestically during its three-day opening weekend. Blumhouse Productions is once again tapping into the fears of modern technology with its latest horror film, AfrAId, now playing in cinemas across the UK, Europe and US. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, AfrAId arrives at a moment when the concept of smart technology going rogue feels more relevant—and terrifying—than ever.
Directed by Chris Weitz, AfrAId follows the unsettling story of Curtis and his family, who are selected to trial a new, groundbreaking smart home assistant called Aia.
