We finally have a new series to look forward to from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, and we couldn't be more excited! It's been over a year since The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ended its run on Prime Video, so we'd say we've been waiting long enough. Thankfully, the wait is almost over! Sherman-Palladino has teamed up with Prime Video once again for her latest show, Étoile, co-created alongside her husband, Daniel Palladino.
Now, don't expect Étoile to be a carbon copy of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel—because it’s not. For starters, it’s a drama rather than a comedy-drama. However, we can probably expect there to still be some comedic moments in Étoile. It probably just won't be so heavy on the humor. Oh, and according to the show’s plot, we can definitely look forward to some dancing!

Yet another adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is in development for Disney+, and the project may now be honing in on its female lead.
According to scooper Mttsh, Rachel Zegler is being eyed to play Christine, the object of the titular Opera Ghost's obsession. Whether this means she's actually in talks for the role or simply someone the studio is interested in is not clear.
Titled Phantom, this YA take on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux will be directed and executive produced by Kenny Ortega, who has led two major Disney franchises with High School Musical and The Descendants.
It doesn't sound like Ortega's version will be changing up the basic premise, with the story focusing on Erik, "a mysterious, disfigured musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. He becomes obsessed with a young soprano, Christine, and manipulates events to make her the star of the opera.

To mark his birthday this week, we celebrate his versatility from bumbling Mr Bean to his punctilious headteacher in The Secret Policeman’s Ball
Atkinson is the bumbling Father Gerald, who praises “the Holy Goat”, invites the happy couple to be “Johned in matrimony” and asks the groom to take his bride to be his “awful wedded wife”. Cutaways to the congregation’s reactions – Hugh Grant snickering, Simon Callow stifling a guffaw – do little to convince us that Richard Curtis’s script is top-tier stuff. At least Atkinson brings some typically subtle modulations, such as the vicar’s premature flickers of smugness when he wrongly believes his worst malapropisms to be behind him.

Playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise has been a blessing and a curse for Mark Hamill: a blessing because he has made millions of dollars and become more famous than he ever imagined, and a curse because the character has stuck with him throughout his adult life. Hamill has been a part of over 50 live-action and animated productions, yet for some reason, fans (and his peers) see him as nothing more than the Jedi Master who fought in the Galactic Civil War during the reign of the Galactic Empire. It’s a good problem to have.

Speak of Merchant Ivory and most people’s thoughts go straight to English stately homes, elegant costumes and stilted drawing room conversations. This is, however, reflective of only a tiny part of the studio’s output, and even then, the storylines are far from what is popularly assumed. Frequently critical of the aristocracy, if not outright satirical, it also did groundbreaking work around gender and sexuality, and challenged establishment narratives around colonialism. Stephen Soucy’s documentary traces its history across four decades as well as looking back at how its two creative spirits came to meet and moving further on to reflect on Ivory’s work since his partner’s death.
In doing so, it incorporates contributions from some of the most esteemed names in British cinema: Simon Callow, Vanessa Redgrave, Madhur Jaffrey, Emma Thompson – as well as popular stars like Hugh Grant and Helena Bonham-Carter. The voices of studio regulars who are no longer.

Netflix recently revealed our first official look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia with a brief teaser promo for season 4 of The Witcher, but some new set photos give us arguably our best look yet at the actor fully suited-up as the titular monster hunter.

Comedy sequels are notoriously difficult to pull off, but there are a few exceptions to this rule that have kept fans laughing. Comedy movies tend to derive a lot of their humor and conflict from a particular situation, and once the story is wrapped up, there is no logical reason to bring the characters back for more. This is why a lot of comedy sequels feel overly contrived, or unrelated to the first movie.
While unnecessary comedy sequels have sadly become the norm, this just makes it even more exciting when a sequel lives up to the standards of the original. Not all movies are set up for sequels, but comedy can often get more creative. Audiences will forgive comedies for coming up with silly premises as long as the movies are just as funny. If a comedy sequel gives beloved characters a fun new story that plays to their strengths,...

Hardy life realities and complex character study in "Notes On A Scandal" highlight Dench's captivating portrayal of moral complexities. Dench's latest work in "Belfast" secures her legacy as a top actress, proving her ability to emotionally resonate with audiences.
Dame Judi Dench has been a hallmark of British cinema and theater for generations, and audiences have long been enraptured by her ability to capture any role with ease. Though she got her start on the stage, Dench has shown herself to be capable of bringing any genre of film to life. Though she's received plenty of accolades for her performances in movies, Dench isn't defined by these awards but by the lives she's touched with her performances. She's an excellent example of a woman that the film industry has continued to celebrate as she ages gracefully.

Quick Links The Duality of Eddie Izzard The Miscasting of Rob Chambers A Gorgeous Throwback Aesthetic but Distracting Subplot Doctor Jekyll Hides the Hyde
You're probably somewhat versed in Jekyll & Hyde lore, or maybe even well-versed. Robert Louis Stevenson's iconic novella, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, was first published way back in 1886, and 140 years later, it's been adapted in countless ways and forms. It's a perfect framework for any allegory about duality, and who better than celebrated actor and comedian Eddie Izzard to tackle the dual role with the modern reimagining, Doctor Jekyll.
Sure, there have been a plethora of Jekyll and Hyde portrayals over the years, but this new iteration from director Joe Stephenson and writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern adds a few neat little bells and whistles to the mix such as the titular character taking on the occupation of pharmaceutical titan. ‘Kneecap’, the name of the Irish hip hop group, and the music biopic about — and starring — the groundbreaking trio, opens today on 700+ screens, following up a U.S. tour last fall and leading into another one.
The hybrid documentary, which was a buzzy Sundance title when Sony Pictures Classics nabbed it, recently swept the Galway Film Fleadh and was named Ireland’s Oscar International Feature submission.
Written and directed by Rich Peppiatt, it features group members — Naoise Ó Cairealláin “Móglaí Bap”; Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh “Mo Chara”; and JJ Ó Dochartaigh “Dj Provaí” as themselves, but it’s scripted, and actors, including Michael Fassbender, play their younger selves and family members. With Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best and Simone Kirby.

We spoke with Doctor Jekyll director Joe Stephenson leading up to the release of his new British horror film that is reigniting the famed Hammer Films brand. Since 1934, the studio which wasn't initially involved in Stephenson's film but would later lend its hand has produced acclaimed projects that feature the iconic characters of Frankenstein, Dracula, and more. And now, Stephenson has helmed a modern reimagining of the famed 1886 novella about two other fictional icons: Jekyll & Hyde.
"I was always using references of British horror of the past and always structuring it as a slow-burn kind of energy heading towards a chaotic climax," Stephenson told MovieWeb about the development process. "That kind of was a bit of like, really what they did in the '60s and '70s. A lot of those films have that slow-burn beginning, just people wandering around saying that things look spooky, and then chaos.

"An isolated mansion, a mysterious locked room, creepy corridors, a dusty cellar, a mad doctor." Hammer Films has revealed another new official trailer for an indie horror creation called Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard as Jekyll. This first premiered at last year's FrightFest horror festival in London, and it'll be out to watch in the US (also on VOD) early in August in just a few weeks. Hammer Films invites you to view Doctor Jekyll, a "modern re-imagining" of the classic tale from the 1886 novella starring Eddie Izzard as a Dr. Nina this time around - a pharma maven plagued by her demons. Directed by Joe Stephenson, Doctor Jekyll is a slow-burn gothic horror that delves into themes of duality, concocting a surprising mix of dark humor and flashes of camp all within a twisted fairytale. This also stars Scott Chambers, Simon Callow, Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, Morgan Watkins, Robyn Cara,...

More photos from the set of The Witcher season 4 have been shared online, and this time we have an actual first glimpse of Liam Hemsworth suited-up as Geralt of Rivia!
The recent third season of Netflix's fantasy adventure series was original Geralt actor Henry Cavill's last, as the Man of Steel star announced his decision to part ways with the streamer's adaptation of the best-selling novels back in 2022.
Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will take over as the titular monster hunter from season 4 on, and a recent photo from the set featured his stunt-double Joel Adrian in-costume. Adrian looked enough like Hemsworth to fool a lot of people, but these snaps spotlight the man himself.
The photos show Hemsworth as Geralt doing battle with Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), and appear to be recreating a scene from season 3 which saw the mage emerge victorious. There is also one shot of Geralt...

The unexpected success of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey led to the creation of a profitable cinematic universe. The Poohniverse is expanding with new films like Monsters Assemble and Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare. Despite challenges with acquiring popular horror icons, the Poohniverse is on track to become a niche but ambitious franchise.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey may have "won" every Razzie it was nominated for, but it made a profit. The budget was a mere $50,000, raking in nearly $5 million worldwide, a massive multiple on its budget but not quite an A-list horror number. Even still, that profit margin ended up being the unexpected start of not just a franchise but a cinematic universe. And, now, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 has had its three-day run in theaters, with a newly-announced third film on the way.

The original Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was easily one of the worst films of last year, but based on its outrageous premise and low budget, it managed to turn a profit. That of course means a sequel, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, with all the usual claims of a bigger budget, more kills and better effects. Conspicuously absent were promises of a decent script or acting, however.
Taking place a year after the original, Blood and Honey 2 opens with the introduction of Owl, who looks more like a vulture than anything. He joins Pooh and Piglet in their fun and games, starting with the torture and killing of three scantily clad campers.

Embracing meta direction and clever twists keeps this sequel fresh and surprisingly enjoyable. Well-done prosthetics, pacing, and gore make for a satisfying horror experience. Despite being a bit mean and sacrilegious to Milne's memory, and having some weak internal logic, the film offers a raw love letter to over-the-top horror fans.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey was trendy but abysmal. Yet somehow, writer/director Rhys Frake-Waterfield managed to garner the cash with their Jagged Edge Productions for a sequel. The filmmaker reportedly listened to the niche audience who balked at the low-budget horror film that pooed upon A.A. Milne’s classic IP. His “Come to Jesus” moment lured in co-screenwriter Matt Leslie (Summer of ’84) and the duo pretty much reinvented everything for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. The story is plausible if not better, and the horror and gore recall the gritty, one-note, blood-soaked horror escapades from the 1970s and ’80s, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre,...

We already knew that there’s going to be another installment in the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey horror franchise, because it was announced earlier this month that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 (which is now on the last day of its three-day theatrical run) a part of a cinematic universe with other horror movies inspired by children’s stories, like Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Bambi: The Reckoning, and Pinocchio Unstrung, and it’s building up to the crossover movie Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, which will be released in 2025. But now Variety has been able to confirm that, in addition to Poohniverse, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 is also moving ahead. This sequel will have a bigger budget than either of its predecessors, and “will introduce new characters from the original Winnie-the-Pooh stories, including Rabbit, the heffalumps and the woozles.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3 is in the works with a bigger budget, introducing new nightmarish characters from A.A. Milne's world. The 'Poohniverse' will bring together Pooh, Piglet, horror versions of Bambi, Peter Pan, and others in a crossover event movie. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 takes a meta approach with a bloody storyline and a mix of positive and mixed reviews.
A third movie in the Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is now officially in the works. Pooh is pissed. But, rather than slaying alone, this time, he’s dragging his pals, Tigger, Piglet, and Owl, along for the blood bath. Hello, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. We’ve been waiting for you. Mostly because we know Team Pooh can pull off a “better” slasher film than Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Reportedly, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who shares writing duties alongside Matt Leslie in the sequel, wanted to flush out a better tale here, however grizzly and gory it is, in this freakishly savage (but fun) spin on A.A. Milne’s classic characters. The sequel finds Winnie-the-Pooh (Ryan Oliva), Piglet (Eddy MacKenzie), Owl (Marcus Massey), and Tigger enraged when their home and lives are endangered after Christopher Robin...
