Exclusive: Mark Gatiss is suitably on-trend with Bookish. He created and stars in the upcoming series as Gabriel Book, an eccentric bookshop owner and expert sleuth who helps the police solve tricky cases. The show has contained stories – one crime plays out over two episodes – and there are lighthearted elements and something comforting about the cluttered antiquarian bookshop, situated in a picture-perfect historic London lane. There is pre-launch buzz and international buyers have already started snapping up the series.
This is cozy crime, but as the show unfolds, Gatiss’ writing reveals layers and wrinkles that give the series teeth.
“It’s become a bit of an instant cliche, ‘cozy crime’, but I don’t think it has to be,” Gatiss tells Deadline. “It can be welcoming, and this has period elements that people love, and they love a world where you can’t solve crimes with computers. But it’s...

The crime drama The Gentlemen, which became a hit when it premiered last year on Netflix, has left fans eagerly awaiting its next season. In August 2024, Netflix renewed the series for a second installment, and viewers are excited to see what’s in store for their favorite characters. But unfortunately, it doesn't look like the crime drama series will be returning for its second season this year. The Gentlemen was noticeably absent from Netflix's 2025 lineup, leading many to believe that its second season won't be released until 2026.
Given that the crime drama was renewed in mid-2024, it initially seemed like there would be plenty of time for the filmmaking process for The Gentlemen season 2 to make a 2025 release. Given that the crime drama was renewed in mid-2024, it initially seemed like there would be plenty of time for the filmmaking process for The Gentlemen season 2 to make a 2025 release. The film adaptation of Fallen may have been a critical and commercial flop, but it is also gothic teenage heaven. It is based on the young adult book of the same name, the first in a six-book series that centers on a troubled teenage girl, Luce, as she is forced to choose between feelings for two fallen angels, Daniel and Cam. Fallen, like many other young adult series of its time, was a direct product of the Twilight craze, which saw an insatiable public thirst for romances between humans and various brooding non-humans after the release of Stephenie Meyer's hugely popular vampire-werewolf series.
Fallen takes a somewhat biblical approach to the fad, packed to the brim with lore about Lucifer's fall from heaven and reincarnation. Still, in true early-2000s love triangle fashion, most ofFallen's juiciest twists and turns concern "Team Daniel" and "Team Cam." Enjoying an overdue...

The recent sexual abuse allegations by several women against Sandman author Neil Gaiman will finally be addressed in a court of law, as one of the alleged victims, Scarlett Pavlovich, has filed a lawsuit against Gaiman and his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer. The allegations first came to light in July 2024 when an exposé was done by Tortoise Media, and since then, many other women have come forward to say they also suffered at the hands of the prolific creator.
The lawsuit was filed on Feb. 3 in the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin where Gaiman resides, and accuses him of a decades-long history of sexual misconduct which Palmer knew about. Pavlovich alleges that Palmer befriended her during a tumultuous time in her life when she struggled to maintain housing, was financially insecure, and had several mental health issues. Eventually, she was introduced to Gaiman and hired as...

In the trailer for the second season of Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Surface, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Sophie is still looking to uncover the truth about her past, this time in London.
After season one ended with Sophie embracing her former identity as Tess Caldwell and going back to the U.K. in search of Millie Brady’s Eliza, whose bloody face has been haunting Sophie, the season two trailer finds Sophie still across the pond and having reconnected with Eliza’s posh British family, the Huntleys.
Eliza is shown recalling how Sophie, whom she knows as Tess, used to work at their family’s stables and the two were friends before Tess disappeared.
But Sophie’s not just seeking to reunite with old acquaintances. She’s overheard saying that her mother was murdered when she was very young and that she thinks the Huntleys were involved in her death.

Since the earliest days of cinema, filmmakers have turned to history for stories, from ancient Greek epics like Clash of the Titans to World War II films like Saving Private Ryan. When it comes to movies based on or around true stories, audiences can expect a range of quality, as well as adherence to the truth. While some movies win praise for trying to honor the period and historicity, others use artistic license to craft a great story at the expense of accuracy.
Period movies can cover a range of genres, from war and Western to drama and action. While critics and historians are often keen to criticize movies for straying from reality, a film can be excellent despite its falsehoods. When it comes to true masterpieces of cinema, a range of directors and writers have proven that the truth can sometimes get in the way of a good story...

Netflix has announced that the upcoming second season of The Sandman will be its last.
Showrunner Allan Heinberg shared the following statement along with the first official season 2 poster art.
“The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season. We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”
This news comes shortly after the publication of a New York Magazine piece outlining - in disturbing detail - new allegations of sexual assault made against The Sandman creator and series EP Neil Gaiman.

Neil Gaiman is a best-selling fantasy author whose works have been adapted in multiple successful TV and film adaptations. He had even more in the works, including Netflix's The Sandman, an ordered adaptation of The Graveyard Book with Disney, and Prime Video's Good Omens.
Following the details of sexual assault allegations that came out in a lengthy report, Gaiman has started losing all of them. Following the initial claims, which came out in July 2024, Prime Video paused production for Good Omens Season 3, which will end with one final episode instead of a full season. Disney canceled the adaptation of The Graveyard Book, and now Netflix has just decided to cancel The Sandman, per Variety. However, there is one small piece of good news.

The Sandman's upcoming second season will be the final run of episodes for the Netflix show based on the graphic novels by Neil Gaiman.
Season 2 of The Sandman is set to arrive on Netflix this year amid a stream of allegations of abuse against creator Gaiman, which has seen several in-development projects being scrapped or wound down in the last several weeks. A new poster for the series has marked the new season as “The Final Season,” marking the end of a series that spent decades in the making, only to be seemingly cut short. Vanessa Redgrave is the Oscar, Emmy and Tony award-winning actress who has starred in dozens of films over several decades, but how many of those titles are classics? Let’s take a look back at 15 of her greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1937, Redgrave was almost destined to become a performer: her parents were Sir Michael Redgrave and Lady Redgrave (Rachel Kempson), her siblings were Lynn Redgrave and Corin Redgrave, her daughters are Joely Richardson and the late Natasha Richardson, and her son-in-law is Liam Neeson. So when it comes to the Redgraves, acting definitely runs in the family.
Redgrave earned her first Oscar nomination in 1966: Best Actress for “Morgan! A Suitable Case for Treatment.” She won 11 years later as Best Supporting Actress for “Julia” (1977) and competed four more times.
Unfortunately, her Oscar victory is best remembered for her controversial acceptance speech than for the performance itself:...

Downton Abbey may seem like an unending franchise at this point, 15 years after it first debuted as an acclaimed television series that crossed the Atlantic and found a big American audience. If you take the cast and crew's word for it, though, Downton Abbey 3 will be the final iteration of this historical drama which has tracked the lives of different families and classes at the turn of the 20th century.
As such, the mood on set was somewhat bittersweet. Michelle Dockery, who has starred in the show as Lady Mary Crawley since the beginning, recently spoke with MovieWeb about returning to the franchise with Downton Abbey 3, which comes to theaters on Sep. 12, 2025. "Well, I mean, going into this last one was like..." Dockery trailed off. "First of all, to do one film was incredible for us. To now look back and we've done a series and three movies is just incredible.

Earlier this year, the world lost a true treasure when Dame Maggie Smith passed away at the age of 89, but her legacy will live on in the new Downton Abbey movie that’s slated to release next year. Smith starred in the original series as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, and reprised the role twice more in two feature films: 2019’s Downton Abbey and 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era. Sadly, art imitated life in the last film, which saw her character pass away peacefully two years before Smith died in real life.
Per TV Line, Downton Abbey 3 is slated to release on Sep. 12, 2025, and the outlet caught up with executive producer Gareth Neame to discuss how Smith’s passing affected the film and its story. Though Smith died after filming was complete, he said it added more weight to the scenes that have the actors mourning...

Speaking with Screen Rant, Coleman confirmed that she would be back as Constantine for The Sandman Season 2, remarking, "Yeah, I think I'm allowed to say that. I'm pretty sure I am. Well, I was seen on set actually, so yeah, I definitely am. Yeah. Yeah, I'm back in Season 2." The actor then shared that Season 2 is "probably more visually stunning than it was the first year," explaining that the "scale is, I mean, it's so cinematic and so I think it's a very unique show. Netflix is ramping up updates on The Sandman Season 2's production, well ahead of its 2025 premiere. A new photo reveals Tom Sturridge's Morpheus bracing for combat against an unseen enemy.
The Sandman's Season 2 update builds anticipation for the Netflix premiere; it also confirmed Tom Sturridge is perfectly cast as the show's titular protagonist. TV Line released a new photo of Sturridge owning his role in what appears to be an intense battle scene. It's confirmed Season 2 will introduce more members of the Endless, most of whom intend to exploit Morpheus' weaknesses even as he rebuilds The Dreaming. Season 1 already debuted Morpheus' siblings Death, Desire, and Despair; fans anticipate how the adaptation will flesh out Destiny, Destruction, Delirium, and even their parents Father Time and Mother Night.

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the second season of The Sandman, but we do know that the DC Comics adaptation will return to our screens at some point in 2025.
Now, TV Line has shared our first official look at the returning Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), who appears to be preparing to face an unknown threat... with one hand behind his back (always the show-off).
Though official season 2 plot details have not been disclosed, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect, and a recently-released featurette spotlighted shots from two key sequences: The Endless family meeting that kickstarts the events of Season of Mists (and actually lays the groundwork for the entire saga), and the banquet Morpheus holds in his realm in an attempt to find the right person to take up a very important position.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Red Sparrow brought a ballerina to an action-packed thriller long before John Wick’s upcoming spinoff was on the cards, but despite arriving to a mixed reception in 2018, the film has now found a new audience on Netflix. This is not the first of Lawrence’s older movies to find huge success on streaming, as her divisive sci-fi movie Passengers has been frequenting the Top 10 of many platforms in the last several months. Now, Red Sparrow is flying up the charts, and reached a peak of 7th in Netflix’s global chart.
Despite the star power, which along with Lawrence includes Jeremy Irons, Joel Edgerton, and Joely Richardson, the film struggled to please everyone, landing itself a split score on both Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and Popcornmeter. Critics had no problem praising Lawrence’s performance in the lead role, but did not buy into the film’s “needlessly sadistic” plot and pacing.

HBO is a network that has pioneered television for decades. Home to such major hits as Game of Thrones, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Veep, and many more, HBO has been at the forefront of creating amazing television for audiences all over the world.
However, sometimes, HBO misses out on big opportunities to create even more legendary television. And while not every pitch HBO hears is immediately perfect for them, in hindsight, they might realize that they've missed out on creating some of the biggest television shows of all time.
