From the director of the 2000s Resident Evil films, Paul W.S. Anderson's underrated 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon will be available to stream for free on Tubi on March 1st. The film, set in 2047, follows a group of astronauts sent to investigate the titular spaceship after it mysteriously reappears after going missing. The film was a box office failure, only managing to gross a total of $42 million globally on its $60 million budget. Critically, Event Horizon was also poorly received, with only 34% on Rotten Tomatoes; however, since its release, the film has garnered a substantial cult following thanks to its far more successful release on DVD.

The crime drama The Gentlemen, which became a hit when it premiered last year on Netflix, has left fans eagerly awaiting its next season. The recent sexual abuse allegations by several women against Sandman author Neil Gaiman will finally be addressed in a court of law, as one of the alleged victims, Scarlett Pavlovich, has filed a lawsuit against Gaiman and his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer. Today, Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for the upcoming second season of Surface, starring and executive produced by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Created by Veronica West, the acclaimed psychological thriller returns for its eight-episode second season on Friday, February 21, followed by new episodes every Friday through April 11, 2025.

Set in a whole new world, this new chapter of Surface follows Sophie (Mbatha-Raw) to London to unravel the secrets of her past. Having suffered an injury that robbed her of her memories, Sophie follows the few clues she has, using her vast stolen resources to embed herself in elite British society and discovers a possible connection to a beautiful heiress.

But everything changes when a journalist contacts her out of the blue, and Sophie realizes they were working together to expose a shocking scandal about the dangerous people she’s now become close to.

In addition to Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Surface stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Millie Brady.

Delving deeper into the mystery that led to Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Tess Caldwell attempting suicide at the beginning of “Surface” Season 1, the psychological thriller returns Friday, February 21 for eight new episodes.

Apple TV+’s psychological thriller starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw will return for Season 2 on Friday, Feb. 21, TVLine has learned, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays after that. Mbatha-Raw is joined by a number of veteran actors in Season 2, including Ted Lasso alum Phil Dunster, who debuts as Eliza’s brother Quinn, “the privileged scion of a troubled, old-money family who’s attempting to blaze a new trail for the younger generation — all the while struggling against his own darker tendencies.”

Netflix has announced that the upcoming second season of The Sandman will be its last.

Showrunner Allan Heinberg shared the following statement along with the first official season 2 poster art.

“The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season. We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

This news comes shortly after the publication of a New York Magazine piece outlining - in disturbing detail - new allegations of sexual assault made against The Sandman creator and series EP Neil Gaiman.

Neil Gaiman is a best-selling fantasy author whose works have been adapted in multiple successful TV and film adaptations. He had even more in the works, including Netflix's The Sandman, an ordered adaptation of The Graveyard Book with Disney, and Prime Video's Good Omens.

Following the details of sexual assault allegations that came out in a lengthy report, Gaiman has started losing all of them. Following the initial claims, which came out in July 2024, Prime Video paused production for Good Omens Season 3, which will end with one final episode instead of a full season. Disney canceled the adaptation of The Graveyard Book, and now Netflix has just decided to cancel The Sandman, per Variety. However, there is one small piece of good news.

Love You to Death is an upcoming Spanish romantic comedy-drama series created by Dani de la Orden. The Apple TV+ series follows Raúl, a cautious young man who is diagnosed with heart cancer and dumped by his girlfriend. He soon reconnects with his free-spirited childhood friend Marta, who just found out that she is pregnant.

The actor then shared that Season 2 is "probably more visually stunning than it was the first year," explaining that the "scale is, I mean, it's so cinematic and so I think it's a very unique show. So yeah, everything that you loved in Season 1 is there and more for sure."

Netflix is ramping up updates on The Sandman Season 2's production, well ahead of its 2025 premiere. A new photo reveals Tom Sturridge's Morpheus bracing for combat against an unseen enemy.

The Sandman's Season 2 update builds anticipation for the Netflix premiere; it also confirmed Tom Sturridge is perfectly cast as the show's titular protagonist. TV Line released a new photo of Sturridge owning his role in what appears to be an intense battle scene. It's confirmed Season 2 will introduce more members of the Endless, most of whom intend to exploit Morpheus' weaknesses even as he rebuilds The Dreaming. Season 1 already debuted Morpheus' siblings Death, Desire, and Despair; fans anticipate how the adaptation will flesh out Destiny, Destruction, Delirium, and even their parents Father Time and Mother Night.

Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the second season of The Sandman, but we do know that the DC Comics adaptation will return to our screens at some point in 2025.

Now, TV Line has shared our first official look at the returning Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), who appears to be preparing to face an unknown threat... with one hand behind his back (always the show-off).

Though official season 2 plot details have not been disclosed, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect, and a recently-released featurette spotlighted shots from two key sequences: The Endless family meeting that kickstarts the events of Season of Mists (and actually lays the groundwork for the entire saga), and the banquet Morpheus holds in his realm in an attempt to find the right person to take up a very important position.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Red Sparrow brought a ballerina to an action-packed thriller long before John Wick’s upcoming spinoff was on the cards, but despite arriving to a mixed reception in 2018, the film has now found a new audience on Netflix. This is not the first of Lawrence’s older movies to find huge success on streaming, as her divisive sci-fi movie Passengers has been frequenting the Top 10 of many platforms in the last several months. Now, Red Sparrow is flying up the charts, and reached a peak of 7th in Netflix’s global chart.

Despite the star power, which along with Lawrence includes Jeremy Irons, Joel Edgerton, and Joely Richardson, the film struggled to please everyone, landing itself a split score on both Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and Popcornmeter. Critics had no problem praising Lawrence’s performance in the lead role, but did not buy into the film’s “needlessly sadistic” plot and pacing.

HBO is a network that has pioneered television for decades. Home to such major hits as Game of Thrones, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Veep, and many more, HBO has been at the forefront of creating amazing television for audiences all over the world.

However, sometimes, HBO misses out on big opportunities to create even more legendary television. And while not every pitch HBO hears is immediately perfect for them, in hindsight, they might realize that they've missed out on creating some of the biggest television shows of all time.
