"The Twilight Zone" is one of those shows so ingrained in popular culture that it's become synonymous with anything mysterious or spooky, even for people who have never seen an episode before. Conceived by Rod Serling as a method of exploring social commentary and often controversial ideas that are still relevant today, the original series first aired in 1959 and ran for five seasons. Serling wrote the bulk of the teleplays and narrated in his own inimitable way, sometimes inserting himself into an episode while dangling an ever-present cigarette. "The Twilight Zone" was also a showcase for some great actors: William Shatner, Burgess Meredith, Buster Keaton, Lee Marvin, Peter Falk, and many others made memorable impressions in classic episodes.
10 years after Serling passed away in 1975, CBS decided to resurrect the show. Although 1983's "Twilight Zone: The Movie" was a disappointment, the '80s "Twilight Zone" TV revamp was still able to...

For more than two years, Joe Lipsett has dissected Amityville Horror films to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
I have no recollection of The Unspoken. Canadian writer/director Sheldon Wilson’s film apparently played at Fright Fest in 2015 before getting a day and date theatrical/VOD release in October 2016, followed by a DVD release from Anchor Bay that December.
Reviews were middling with most critics decrying the film’s reliance on ghostly figures and jump scares, lamenting its lack of scariness (an extremely subjective criticism) and protesting its “complicated” story.
So why is the film a topic of conversation for this editorial? Because The Unspoken is a secret Amityville prequel.
Okay, yes, it’s literally only revealed in the film’s closing scene when the film’s antagonists, single mom Jeanie (Pascale Hutton) and her mute son Adrian (Sunny Suljic...

The entertainment industry chews up and spits out child stars like they're tough pieces of jerky (look at how "iCarly" actor Jennette McCurdy disappeared from Hollywood for instance). Resultantly, it's surprising when these young prodigies survive Tinsel Town's subliminal hit jobs and go on to have successful careers as adults. Jenna Ortega is one of the few who made it in this regard. She cut her teeth on everything from the soapie "Days of Our Lives" to the it-must-have-been-a-fever-dream "Richie Rich" series on Netflix. Then, she ascended to the lead in Disney's "Stuck in the Middle" and an important supporting role in season 2 of the I'm-certain-it's-a-"Gossip Girl"-prequel "You."
For Ortega, her acting career has only been on a meteoric rise, as she continues to grow in popularity and feature in bigger TV shows and movies, such as "Wednesday" and "Scream." But how do we determine and rank her best projects?...

Bong Joon Ho is my favorite modern filmmaker, and I’m not shy about admitting it. If you were to reduce my moviegoing sensibilities to their purest form, I think you’d find nothing but the essence of both Bong Joon Ho and Wes Craven there (with a dash of early 2000s horror fare for good measure). My horror education was largely predicated on J-horror and K-horror movies, so since I first really got into the genre, I’ve always had an affinity for that subgenre and, more broadly, international horror movies. I’m privileged every year to curate Dread Central’s year-end list for international horror movies, after all. It seems that Quentin Tarantino feels the same way.
With Bong Joon Ho in particular, I’ve always been partial to the absurdity of his style, the remarkable ease with which he weaves a tapestry of competing tones and themes that somehow,...

Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”) and Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) star as a budding couple embarking on a first date that goes terribly awry thanks to a twisty murder plot in Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon’s thriller Drop.
The suspenseful thriller sets its whodunnit in motion when widowed mother Violet begins receiving mysterious airdrops on her phone, lighthearted memes at first that quickly snowball into sinister threats, prompting Violet to commit murder before her loved ones suffer the price.
Landon, speaking with Bloody Disgusting at SXSW for the film’s premiere, shared the true origins that inspired Drop. It's hard to imagine that over 20 years have passed since audiences all around the world were first introduced to the diverse group of passengers of the ill-fated Flight 815 in the 2004 cultural phenomenon Lost, a mind-bending sci-fi supernatural series that focuses on the traumatized survivors as they find themselves stranded on a mysterious tropical island in the South Pacific. Touting a stacked ensemble cast led by Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, and Naveen Andrews, the smash hit original has widely been regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time, running for six spellbinding seasons.
Party of Five alum Matthew Fox famously headlined the sci-fi staple, portraying the brilliant-yet-haunted surgeon Jack Shephard, who swiftly emerges as the de facto leader of his fellow survivors and experiences an epic spiritual transformation throughout the course of the acclaimed series. However, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Fox as the capable Jack.

Scott Foley teased his return to the Scream franchise for the seventh installment despite his character’s death.
Foley’s first film credit was in 2000’s Scream 3 where he played the role of Roman Bridger, who turns out to be the serial killer and is killed off in the end. The actor returns for Scream VII and in an appearance on Good Morning America he teased his character’s return.
“I don’t know how it works out,” Foley said about returning to the franchise. “Spoiler alert! 25 years ago I was the killer in Scream 3 and he was brutally taken to town and killed. And now I’m back in Scream 7 and I’m not sure how it’s going to work.”
Foley said that reuniting with his former co-stars was “the best,” adding, “It’s so much fun and I got to see Neve [Campbell] again and David Arquette again.

A great villain can make or break a film and they have been a staple of storytelling since the dawn of cinema. There have been hundreds of incredible, iconic villains audiences have loved to hate. Some movies are even so rich as to have more than one of these incredible foes.
Villains can be used to gain a different perspective, or sometimes simply be agents of chaos to shake up the tale. No matter what, villains add so much flavor to a film, and more than one can be even more fun.

The 1990s transformed the movie industry. It was the decade in which filmmakers began to push further beyond traditional filmmaking with the help of new technologies, new ways of storytelling, and themes that challenged commonly accepted societal norms.
Independent cinema grew in numbers, special effects became ever so popular, and complex, often controversial subject matter made its mark. The growth of the overall film industry can also be attributed to the new expectations from moviegoers.

Many villains have worn the Ghostface mask throughout the decades, and The Boys’ star Jack Quaid took a stab at it in 2022 when he played Richie in the legacy sequel, Scream. Although many characters (including some surprising ones) are returning for the upcoming Scream 7, you wouldn't think of Quaid as part of the returning cast. But if classic villains like Stu and Roman have found a way in, couldn't Richie also return? Well, Quaid has now provided the best "non-answer" to this question...

Ghostface will have his/her choice of characters to question about their favorite scary movies when Scream 7 finally hits theaters in February 2026. Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers are the only two living survivors from director Wes Craven’s 1996 film returning. However, Woodsboro’s masked serial killer will come up against plenty of new blood, too, including the film's newest addition, Landman and 1923’sfan-favorite star, Michelle Randolph.
It’s unclear who Randolph will portray in the latest Scream installment, but she will be rubbing elbows with some of the horror franchise’s crème de la crème. In addition to Campbell and Cox, several other actors from earlier entries are returning for another go-round with Ghostface — even though their respective characters are presumably dead — more on that shortly.

The cast of the upcoming horror sequel Scream 7 continues to grow. Now, another two names have been revealed as franchise newcomers for the movie.
Per Deadline, it's been announced that Scream 7 has recruited Michelle Randolph (Landman) and Jimmy Tatro (The Real Bros of Simi Valley). Details about their roles have not been disclosed, but either one could potentially be playing the next person to be unmasked as a Ghostface killer, given how that changes with each installment. They could also just as easily be playing two more victims of the Ghostface killer. In any case, all fans can do at this time is speculate with no additional information known about the roles.

Director Christopher Landon has a proven track record for helming zippy fun horror, from the Happy Death Day films to Freaky to last year’s YA horror-lite We Have a Ghost. Landon’s latest, Drop, continues that streak while expanding his oeuvre with a more mature effort that leaves behind the teen slasher gimmicks. This first-date gone wrong thriller serves as the filmmaker’s propulsive, infectious tribute to Wes Craven’s Red Eye, resulting in a highly stylized dramatic thriller that’ll leave you fist-pumping to “Yahtzee!”

George R. R. Martin will always be best known for A Song of Ice and Fire, the epic fantasy saga that served as the basis for HBO's modern classic Game of Thrones. The author sought to infuse historical reality into a traditional high fantasy setting, presenting jockeying kingdoms which are never entirely good nor evil. Game of Thrones aptly captured the fascinating (and often violent) political conflicts at the heart of his stories, catapulting him to fame and giving his work a prominence and respect on par with the masters of the genre.
It may surprise some fans to learn that Game of Thrones wasn't the first television project associated with the author. Martin's career as a writer stretches back to the early 1970s, and includes a stint in the 1980s writing scripts for the likes of Max Headroom and Beauty and the Beast. Deadline reports that David Arquette is set to return as former police deputy Dewey Riley in the seventh Scream movie... despite being pretty soundly murdered by Mikey Madison's Ghostface in the fifth instalment.
Dewey is just the latest character to be "resurrected" for the next film in the classic slasher franchise, although he is the first not to have terrorized our protagonists as Ghostface.
Earlier this year, the trades reported on a couple of casting additions that left fans scratching their heads. We learned that one of the two Og Ghostfaces, Matthew Lillard's Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher, would return for the next film despite being killed-off in the first Scream after being stabbed several times and having a TV dropped on his head. Then, reports came in that Scott Foley would also be back as Scream 3's Ghostface Roman Bridger - also definitively dispatched.

Cheryl Gates McFadden was a dancer before she was an actress. She studied theater in college (she has a Bachelor of Arts degree) and lived in Paris for a spell, performing with the celebrated movement coach Jacques Lecoq. In New York in the 1970s, she taught dance at various colleges, and formed her own theater troupes and comedy companies. In the 1980s, she landed a few high-profile gigs serving as a choreographer and movement coach on "The Muppets Take Manhattan" and "Labyrinth." She can be seen giving her commentary in a making-of documentary on the "Labyrinth" DVD.

2015 was a solid year for Oz Perkins when he had two films premiering at the Toronto Film Festival. One was his directorial debut, The Blackcoat's Daughter, which would later receive the status of a cult slow-burn horror. The other was called The Girl in the Photographs and was directed by Nick Simon. Perkins, Simon, and Robert Morast collaborated on the screenplay and Wes Craven was attached as an executive producer. At the time, this horror film went largely unnoticed. Now with Perkins' two most recent movies, Longlegs and The Monkey, generating a lot of buzz, it seems like a great time to revisit the film. The Girl in the Photographsfeatures some unique killing scenes (it's not every day we see someone get murdered with a towel), a gloomy atmosphere, surprising amount of dark humor, and a few interesting things to say about the nature of visual arts.

The University of Pittsburgh Library System has added archival materials from The Blair Witch Project to its Horror Studies Collection.
The acquisition includes production materials and promotional items, like the infamous missing person flyers, along with reviews, articles, games, comics, and other tie-in media demonstrating the 1999 film’s impact.
The materials come from writers-directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick and producers Gregg Hale and Mike Monello.
“We’re thrilled to find a permanent home for our collection of records, memorabilia, and ephemera from a little horror film that lucked its way into cinema history,” Hale said.

Cameras are now rolling on Scream 7 in Atlanta, and the first photos and video from the set have been shared online.
Though the shots are far from the clearest, we do get a pretty good look at the iconic slasher franchise's latest Ghostface, who appears to be stalking a victim as he/she passes by Prescott's Coffee (it seems Sidney is going to be a business owner when we catch up with her).
The masked killers haven't really changed-up their looks that much over the years, and it doesn't look like this next movie is going to break with tradition.
Earlier this year, the trades reported on a couple of Scream 7 casting additions that left fans of the long-running slasher franchise a tad confused. We learned that one of the two Og Ghostfaces, Matthew Lillard's Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher, would return for the next film despite being killed-off...

Scream 7 sees the return of Jasmin Savoy Brown, one of several casting mainstays returning for the anticipated slasher sequel directed by film series creator Kevin Williamson. As production for the latest Scream entry ramps up, Brown praises the "delightful" Williamson and hails working on the sequel with fellow Yellowjackets star, Joel McHale.
Speaking with People, Brown opened up about her experience with Williamson, who she's enjoyed working alongside as he takes the director's chair for the first time in the Scream series. Brown revealed that Scream 7 production has been such an emotional ride for Williamson to the point the franchise creator "cries every day" as he cherishes the opportunity to lead the film. In the mid-1990s, horror was in a rut, but then came Scream in 1996. Wes Craven's meta slasher brought back the subgenre that had dominated the '80s, now with a fresh twist and a cast of up-and-coming young stars. Its success led to a wave of copycats, most notably 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer. Perhaps the best of the post-Scream wave came a year later with Jamie Blanks' Urban Legend. It was not only a whodunit with a great cast, but it had the added twist of its killer offing their victims through the use of urban legends. It may be best remembered for its twist-killer reveal, but for me, the best part is the addition of Robert Englund. Forever known as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street films, Englund's role as a professor who scares his class with his retelling of...

Earlier this year, the trades reported on a couple of Scream 7 casting additions that left fans of the long-running slasher franchise scratching their heads.
First, we learned that one of the two Og Ghostfaces, Matthew Lillard's Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher, would return for the latest movie despite being killed-off in the first Scream after being stabbed several times and having a TV dropped on his head. Then, reports came in that Scott Foley would also be back as Scream 3's Ghostface Roman Bridger - also pretty definitively dispatched.
So, what's going on? Are these killers somehow still alive, or will the Scream franchise finally introduce a supernatural element?
Possible spoilers ahead.
According to a new rumor from Daniel Richtman, some of the previous movies' Ghostfaces will return via AI/Deepfake technology, which will reportedly "play a significant role in the plot."

The rape/revenge subgenre of horror has been met with controversy over the years. Genre precursors Virgin Spring and A Woman Branded set the stage, while Wes Craven’s TheLast House on the Left and Meir Zarchi's I Spit on Your Grave drew ire among the film community. I Spit on Your Grave, featuring a full 30 minutes of gang rape, was dubbed a “video nasty” (or an ultra-violent exploitation movie deemed inappropriate for mass consumption) in the U.K.

The Twilight Zone is one of the most influential television series of all time. Its anthology format and clever updates of campfire tales struck a chord with audiences in the early 1960s, as creator Rod Serling and his colleagues combined sci-fi with a strong social conscience. The series' signature ironic twists have never lost their sting, and the moral lessons beneath the chills give it an evergreen quality that helped it endure over the years.
In the process, it has influenced countless sci-fi and horror filmmakers who were inspired by it at an early age. Some of them went on to direct movies with a close resemblance to Serling's tales, and there are plenty of feature-length movies which bear the distinctive stamp of a specific episode. Each one tells its own story, while carrying the core of an idea that effectively started with The Twilight Zone.

Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone is not only one of the greatest television series of all time, but one of the most storied. The anthology format was perfect for telling sci-fi tales with an ironic twist, using the whiplash ending to keep audiences coming back week after week. It arrived during the height of the Space Race, and captured the zeitgeist of the time with uncanny accuracy. At the same time, Serling's penchant for social commentary and observations about human nature helped The Twilight Zone transcend the era it was made to become a timeless classic.
Considering its pedigree, it might come as some surprise that the series has never been a massive ratings hit. The first incarnation of The Twilight Zone lasted five seasons, which is respectable, but far less than other big TV hits of the series such as The Virginian and The Beverly Hillbillies. Its eventual...

Wes Craven's 1972 directorial debut, The Last House On The Left, is like a strong cup of coffee in the morning. The plot centers on a group of sadistic criminals who kidnap and assault two teenage girls and then leave them to die in the woods. They soon meet their reckoning, though, when they seek refuge with the parents of one of the girls, who eventually discover what they did to their daughter. The film is a reimagining of Ingmar Bergman's 1960 film, The Virgin Spring, but with a horror twist, that heightens the stakes of the rape-revenge story.

The past couple of weeks have seen many casting announcements for Scream 7. At first, they seemed fairly normal, with people like Isabel May and McKenna Grace fulfilling the teen roles. Makes sense, as they always need a new cast of young victims, as Neve Campbell’s Sydney Prescott can only do so much. Then part of the Core Four was announced, with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy-Brown returning as the Meeks’. Very cool considering the Barrera/Ortega films appeared to be getting excised. But that’s when things started to get weird. Despite rumors of his involvement for months, Patrick Dempsey was not cast as Sydney’s husband, instead Joel McHale ended up taking the role. Unexpected but scheduling conflicts happen and they clearly have a movie to make. But that’s when we got some true head-scratchers. Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard were both announced as having roles in the film.

Compromises are made whenever art and industry collide. This is especially true for movies, as it takes an insane amount of resources to produce even the cheapest feature. That’s why producers often feel the need to protect their investment by wrestling control of a project away from “rogue” directors. Quality-wise, this almost invariably spells out doom for the film in question. However, the rise of home video has led to some filmmakers getting a second chance at sharing their vision with the world.
And while we’re all aware of famously superior director’s cuts of movies like Blade Runner and Little Shop of Horrors, not all filmmakers have been fortunate enough to revisit their forlorn projects. With that in mind, we’ve decided to compile a list highlighting six director’s cuts that horror fans are still waiting for. After all, it’s never too late for studios...

It's official: Scott Foley is coming back as Roman Bridger. The Scream 7 actor confirmed that he would be reprising his Scream 3 role in the upcoming slasher instead of playing a new character.
When Foley's Scream 7 casting was first announced, unlike the movie's other returning stars, he was not confirmed to be returning as Sidney Prescott's half-brother and former Ghostface, Roman Bridger. However, during an appearance on Live with Kelly & Mark (via X), Foley confirmed that he would be back as Roman Bridger, although the actor hinted that fans shouldn't expect to see a lot of Roman in the movie. "Look man, it's Scream," began Foley after Live co-host Mark Consuelos (who is also part of the Scream 7 cast) noted that Roman was coming back despite dying in Scream 3. "I just had a conversation with Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first few Screams and is directing this one.

From hijackings to mind games at cruising altitude, these in-flight thrillers will have you gripping your armrest.
The new Mark Wahlberg thriller now in theaters, “Flight Risk” caught my attention and I’m planning on seeing it this week. Wahlberg (who I always have time for) plays a pilot navigating an intense flight with an air marshal and a fugitive on board. Set against the backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness, the film promises high-altitude suspense and a ton of “not all is as it seems” twists. It got me thinking about why thrillers on airplanes are so powerful. Maybe it’s because each one of us has had a moment on a flight during major turbulence where the thought has crossed our minds… “If this goes down, there’s not a lot of hope.”
In short, the stakes are just so high, and there are plenty of movies that capture that tension.

With Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard returning for next year’s Scream 7, it seems like anything is possible in the Scream franchise right about now. Both actors of course played characters in previous films who were definitely killed off, with Foley starring in Scream 3 alongside actors including Parker Posey. And Posey, well, she’s hungry for her own franchise return.
Parker Posey memorably played Jennifer Jolie in Wes Craven’s third movie, the actress playing Gale Weathers in the in-universe Stab movies. The actress reveals in a new chat with Entertainment Tonight that she pitched her agent on returning to play Gale Weathers in an actual Stab spinoff movie, something fans of the franchise have been craving for many years.
Posey tells Et, “There should be a Stab movie.” When asked if she would be up for playing Gale if that movie ever became reality, Posey responded with a simple “of course.

Heart Eyes slays the Valentine's Day box office by skewering romantic comedies with bloody slasher fun. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding co-star as Seattle advertising executives targeted for slaughter after a chance meeting. Kismet proves to be a death sentence as they run for their lives while hilariously still flirting. Director Josh Ruben, known for Scare Me and his fantastic adaptation of Werewolves Within, started his career in sketch comedy and CollegeHumor shorts. Speaking to MovieWeb, Ruben credits these early experiences with establishing a good working relationship with his terrific Heart Eyes ensemble, which also includes Jordana Brewster and Devon Sawa:
"I try to speak to my actors as I would like to be spoken to. That all starts with a vibe. You have to be confident as the cruise captain, but you also need to set a precedent, or create the kind of playground where actors feel like they can take risks.

This Valentine's Day comes with a treat for brave moviegoers. While there are plenty of romantic options, both on streaming and in cinema — there's a new Bridget Jones movie coming out soon, Heart Eyes is coming to change that.
Already out in theaters, the slasher rom-com movie has received positive reviews. Instead of a regular slasher, Heart Eyes takes a romantic spin for two people working late, only to become the target of the infamous Heart Eyes Killer, who believes they're a couple. Although the slasher hasn't officially received a sequel yet, director Josh Ruben shared with Variety his idea for Heart Eyes 2 inspired by Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually.

Original Scream star Matthew Lillard was on hand at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida this past weekend to not only confirm his return to the beloved horror franchise, but to joke about how his seemingly deceased character will return in Scream 7. Lillard played Stu Macher in Wes Craven's 1996 classic, one half of the Ghostface killer alongside Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis. He was presumed dead after being stabbed numerous times and having a TV dropped on his head, but in the world of Scream, not everything is as it seems.

Matthew Lillard is finally coming back to the Scream series in ‘Scream 7’ as the star confirmed with his Instagram post. Fans remember him as Stu Macher, one of the original Ghostface killers from the 1996 film directed by Wes Craven. His return is unexpected, since Stu was last seen being crushed by a heavy Crt television, which seemed to kill him. But in horror movies, death isn’t always final, and now, almost 30 years later, he’s back.
How Stu is returning is still a mystery. Some believe he somehow survived, while others think he could have a twin or even be part of something supernatural. Lillard himself has teased the idea that Stu might still be alive.

The Valentine’s Day-set horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes, the latest film from Werewolves Within and Scare Me director Josh Ruben is now in theatres (you can read our 7/10 review Here and watch our interviews with cast members at This Link), and during an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting, Ruben revealed that he used writer/director Tom McLoughlin’s 1986 classic Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI as his guide when figuring out how to balance horror and comedy in his own slasher movie.
Heart Eyes has the following synopsis: When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives. Ruben previously provided the following statement: “My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies.

What do you get when you mix Nora Ephron with Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers? The combination might seem antithetical, but it works scarily well in director Josh Ruben‘s sweet, funny, terrifying rom-com/slasher movie mash-up, “Heart Eyes.”
Working from an inventive script by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, Ruben somehow deftly satisfies fans of both “Sleepless in Seattle” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” An iconic new horror villain is born in the form of the movie’s Heart Eyes Killer, a slasher who stalks young lovers each Valentine’s Day.
Ruben, as he explained to IndieWire, wanted the movie’s two sides to be equally strong so that the horror would deepen the romance made all the more terrifying because of our investment in the two young lovers (Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding) fleeing from the Heart Eyes Killer.
