They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, but in Talia Balsam’s case, it might be more accurate to say the ‘Oscar-winning apple’ rolled a little further than expected.
Born into the Hollywood elite, the daughter of Martin Balsam, Talia Balsam could have easily followed the well-trodden path of fading into the backdrop of A-list spouses. Instead, she has strutted her stuff, leaving a lasting mark on Hollywood, one meticulously chosen role at a time.

George Clooney has dabbled in various genres in his decades-long career but he is reportedly finally saying goodbye to romances. The actor was the heartthrob of a whole new generation and was a huge reason why they loved doctors (he had a leading role in ER). However, Clooney has called it quits on love.
This comes on the heels of actress Sandra Bullock also saying goodbye to rom-coms, which is a huge blow for fans. The Proposal star criticized Hollywood’s treatment of the genre and expressed the difficulties of getting a film of the genre made. She also mentioned how executives saw the genre and wanted to make it formulaic.

Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) are in full action movie mode in Season 7, Episode 11 of “The Rookie,” aptly titled “Speed.” A throwback to the 1994 L.A. action classic of the same name, the new episode finds Nolan and Juarez trapped in a hostage situation on a bus while undercover for a public safety initiative. Meanwhile, the Mid-Wilshire team mobilizes to hunt down the suspects and get all the passengers off safely.
Directed by Jan de Bont (“Twister”), the original “Speed” stars Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock as a cop and a bus passenger, respectively, who have to keep their bus speeding through the streets of L.A. at over 50 mph. If they fail, or if anyone tries to get off, the bus is rigged to blow, thanks to the handiwork of a vengeful retired bomb squad member (Dennis Hopper).

In a month where Netflix gave us one of its worst films yet in the Russo Brothers' slick but empty "The Electric State," and one of its best series ever in "Adolescence," Hulu has been quietly proving its worth as an alternative streaming platform. 2025's Best Picture winner, "Anora" dominated the Hulu charts upon its mid-March release, followed by Bill Burr's excellent new standup special, which similarly rose to number one in recent weeks. But this is still the streaming sphere, which means you're never far away from a truly wretched movie somehow managing to rise from the muck and attain incomprehensible success.
Enter: "Premonition" — a 2007 psychological thriller starring Sandra Bullock as a housewife whose husband may or may not be dead. Now, we've seen some real stinkers dominating streaming charts this year. For example, Prime Video had a pretty egregious February with Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson's...

Well, well, well, what do we have here? Channing Tatum, Hollywood’s favorite dance-floor heartthrob turned moody mystery man, is back in the headlines, and no, it’s not because of another Magic Mike sequel (though we’d never say no to that). This time, it’s his love life that’s doing the cha-cha. After his quiet split from Zoë Kravitz in October 2024, the actor is once again sparking curiosity.
No dramatic fallout, no tabloid chaos, just two people who went their separate ways. But now, something (or someone) new has caught everyone’s attention, and the internet has entered full detective mode.

It’s not unusual for celebrities to move on, but when Tatum is involved, even the smallest outing becomes headline fuel. The guy could be grabbing a coffee and people would wonder if it’s a date.

Sure, Hollywood had its doubts about his acting chops back in the day, but Reeves has shut down those haters with an impressive career that spans decades. Whether he’s kicking bad guys in John Wick or giving us all the feels in Toy Story 4, Reeves delivers something only he can: pure magic.
While we might not see him dodging bullets as Neo in Matrix 5 anytime soon, there’s plenty on the horizon.

Needless to say, we’re suckers for a good conspiracy theory—especially when it’s wrapped in a movie reference that makes us do a double-take. So, when the words “The Proposal” popped up in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine, it wasn’t just another casual nod to a rom-com. Oh no, folks.
Fans recently unearthed a juicy nugget, believing this quote from The Proposal could be a sly reference to Justin Baldoni. It all started with an innocent-sounding “Nicepool” theory. People thought it was just a shoutout to Sandra Bullock’s film The Proposal… but wait, hold on.

Turns out, Nicepool might actually be a metaphor for Baldoni, and the intrigue just keeps escalating. Trust us, the rabbit hole goes deep. And let’s just say, it sparked one theory too many—one involving everything from bald conspiracies to cryptic wedding confessions.

Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box created history upon release when it became Netflix’s most popular movie at the time. It broke several viewership records within a few days of its release and also had a pop cultural impact as many tried the ‘Bird Box Challenge’. The challenge even prompted Netflix to urge fans not to do dangerous things while blindfolded.
Despite its popularity, many fans have complained about the ending and the lack of explanation about the entities. The alien entities are revealed to influence people to kill themselves and the only way to protect oneself is to not see them. The treatment of the people who have seen the entities and survived is extremely problematic.

Over the years, there have been several stories regarding people in power abusing the authority they’ve been given. Unfortunately, these types of situations often arise within the movie industry, not only in America but all across the world. Sometimes, actors fall prey to authoritative figures who tend to make unwanted advances and it’s incredibly sad to hear Sandra Bullock, one of Hollywood’s finest talents went through this.

The good news is, people who spoke out about these incidents brought a lot of change in the way people, especially men carry themselves on set, as per Bullock.

There exists a core index within the category of A-list actors that contains those who have navigated the industry for their whole career without being mired in a single scandal or controversy. Hollywood respects that index and fortunately for the fans, Sandra Bullock belongs to that core category.

It is only in Hollywood’s nature to take advantage of the fact and make a film out of it. With Ryan Reynolds scoring big with his latest Marvel venture, he can bring back that essence of theatergoing fun by bringing back a character from the past alongside Sandra Bullock.

1995’s cyber-thriller The Net starred Sandra Bullock – but it nearly co-starred Bill Gates as the villain. More on the story here.
Go all the way back to 1995, and the cyberthriller The Net envisaged a world where you could get internet access on a beach, where you ordered pizza on a computer, and where some people used the world wide web for nefarious reasons. Pah, bloody movies, making stuff up.
The director of the film was Irwin Winkler, the Oscar-winning producer of movies such as Rocky, Rocky IV, The Right Stuff and Goodfellas. And he’s the latest guest on the Film Stories podcast, as he promotes his new movie, The Alto Knights. There’s a review of that at the bottom of this article.
With The Net though, a tale did the rounds that Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates was in line to play the villain of the film.

Keanu Reeves is a national treasure. An indelible performer, he's actively improving with age, putting his stoic gravitas to spectacular effect as cinema's greatest action hero. Fans fell in love with him in The Matrix, heralding Neo as a modern pop culture icon. However, when critics took issue with Reeves' limited range, he reinvented himself with The John Wick franchise. As the Baba Yaga, Keanu Reeves is a harbinger of death, carrying himself like an icy specter of relentless bloodshed. Suffice it to say, the role cemented his status as a warrior without equal. That being said, Keanu wasn't always the action-savant his reputation suggests.

Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin’s bickering double act follows in the footsteps of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, via Tom Hanks and his dog
Kieran Culkin’s mile-a-minute turn in A Real Pain was the single most lauded performance of this past awards season, winning pretty much every best supporting actor prize on offer, up to and including his Oscar two weeks ago. As an erratic, unfiltered loose cannon joining his strait-laced cousin, played by writer-director Jesse Eisenberg, on a Jewish heritage tour of Poland in honour of their familial roots, Culkin is rivetingly reckless and off-kilter in the part.
The awards are well deserved except for the key detail that it isn’t remotely a supporting role. An evenly weighted two-hander, Eisenberg’s second film behind the camera is a sharp and moving variation on the classic formula of the mismatched buddy movie,...

When Christopher Nolan came up on stage to receive his first Golden Globe, he called actor Cillian Murphy (who would soon get up on stage to receive one for Best Actor) his partner-in-crime for twenty years. That says nearly everything about the relationship between the two stalwarts of their craft.
Nolan and Murphy have worked on six films over the past twenty years, beginning with, well as the name suggests, Batman Begins. While the ace filmmaker has worked with several genius actors of this generation such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Robert Downey Jr., he reportedly called Murphy the greatest of his generation.

Some things just make sense once you experience them together: peanut butter and jelly, french fries dipped in chocolate milkshakes, and now Daniel Radcliffe and Tracy Morgan. The Harry Potter star has officially signed on to co-lead Morgan's forthcoming comedy pilot for NBC, an as-yet-untitled project from 30 Rock creators Robert Carlock and Tina Fey. Given Radcliffe's penchant for off-kilter comedic roles and generally gamely acting style, we're excited to see the pair team up on-screen, and learn more about the forthcoming series.
Announced earlier this month, the series is officially touted as the story of "a disgraced former football player (Morgan) is on a mission to rehabilitate his image." Many of these films have made a significant impact on cinema and are still consistently referenced and quoted today. Each film is unique in its own way and has served as inspiration for countless other films that parallel their cinematic perspective and narrative structure.

Did George Clooney and Margot Robbie have a face off? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia; Instagram )
The Ocean’s franchise is facing a stormy showdown as George Clooney and Margot Robbie lock horns over competing projects linked to the iconic heist series.
The 63-year-old Hollywood icon has reignited excitement by revealing that a promising script for Ocean’s 14 is ready to roll, with plans for him to reprise his role as the charming Danny Ocean. The proposed sequel dives into themes of aging, following Danny and his seasoned crew grappling with the reality that they’re no longer as spry as they once were.
Margot Robbie’s Frustration: A Prequel Under Threat

“The greatest thing that ever happened to me is I went bald for my acting career,” Bill Burr recently told NPR.
Seeing that Burr is no burly action star like The Rock or Vin Diesel, a conspicuous lack of hair doesn’t seem like it would be an advantage in Tinseltown. But Burr assures us it’s better than at least one alternative. “Back in the day, when I actually had hair … Hollywood, they talk about racism and sexism and it goes beyond that,” Burr explained. Based on his experience, though, there’s no group more ostracized in show business than gingers.
“Like, they even like divide up redheads,” he insisted. “There were rules about redheads. I was in the ‘redhead drawer.’ I was in the Opie, Ron Howard, Howdy Doody drawer, and I didn’t get the gun. I didn’t win the fight. I didn’t get the girl.

Brad Pitt has been a consistent presence in blockbuster action comedies for the better part of the past two decades. After rising to fame for dramatic roles during the 1990s – such as in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club – Pitt found further commercial success by starring in the Ocean's trilogy of heist comedies. He further solidified his status as a leading man in blockbuster action movies like Troy, the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z.
In 2020, Pitt won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He's also received Oscar nominations for his performances in 12 Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Moneyball. As Christopher Nolan gears up for his next big-budget mythic action epic The Odyssey, it is interesting to note his journey from being an independent filmmaker with a $6,000 budget. The filmmaker has long been a proponent for theatrical viewing of cinema and has constantly promoted 70mm IMAX screenings for his own films.
However, with streaming becoming a staple for every household, movie theatres seem to be dying out, with only a few filmmakers getting exclusive windows before streaming. Nolan has long criticized Hollywood’s model for streaming, but there is another point of view that defends streaming and the opportunities it provides.

Paul Feig’s Another Simple Favor has premiered to good reviews – but the filmmaker admits it’s been a bumpy road to get this far.
Paul Feig’s new film, Another Simple Favor, debuted at the SXSW Festival in the US over the weekend. It’s accurately being reported as the first time he’s made a sequel to one of his films, although that does overlook the fact that The Heat 2 was something he was pursuing at one stage (Sandra Bullock’s reluctance to return ended the chances of it happening).
Still, he’s given a candid-sounding conversation about the difficult development of Another Simple Favor, which reunites Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in the lead roles.
Feig produced the film as well as directing, with Laura Fischer also a producer on the film. Chatting at the festival, via The Hollywood Reporter, Feig revealed that we may at one...

Sunday Am Writethru: Warner Bros and Plan B Entertainment’s Mickey 17 is being called at a $19.1M domestic, $43.6M global opening this morning, for a running worldwide tally of $53.3M.
After Neon shepherded multihyphenate Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite to multiple Oscar wins, including Best Picture, Warner Bros. decided to take a big swing on his next outing at a higher budget level. Unfortunately for stakeholders, the result isn’t going to cut it profit-wise, given the original sci-fi film’s $118M cost (not counting P&a).
That’s the conventional P&l outlook from the studio perspective, anyway. But there are plenty of factors that are frustrating those at Warners who are shepherding the film as well as those who produced it.

Here’s A Look At Blake Lively’s Stunning Appearance At Another Simple Favor Red Carpet (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Blake Lively appeared at the SXSW premiere of her upcoming film Another Simple Favor and looked like nothing less than a modern-day Barbie. We have always seen Lively putting her best fashion self forward (minus her It Ends With Us wardrobe collection) when attending events like this, but in this one, she looked happy, unbothered, and high-spirited.
Lively posed for the photographers in iconic poses and flashed her million-dollar smile. She also stood beside her co-star Michelle Morrone for the camera at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, where the premiere was held. The actress looked chirpy and unfazed by the ongoing legal situation with Justin Baldoni. So, scroll ahead as we decode her lookbook from the screening.

Hollywood’s Most Unpredictable Star Robert Pattinson Is Back With Mickey 17! (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Robert Pattinson isn’t your typical Hollywood star, and honestly, that’s what makes him so fascinating. While many A-listers craft a pristine, almost untouchable image, the Mickey 17 actor leans into the bizarre, the awkward, and sometimes, the outright absurd.
Robert Pattinson’s Fear Of Horror Films
Let’s take The Batman star’s relationship with horror films as a starter. Rather than casually watching them like any other actor who might be asked about the genre, Pattinson admits they left him so rattled that he once found himself perched on a sofa, gripping two kitchen knives for protection.
Then there’s the infamous stalker story. While most celebrities would call security at the first sign of unwanted attention, Pattinson supposedly took his stalker to dinner. According to him, after enduring an entire meal where he did nothing but complain,...

Did a stalker once break into Sandra Bullock’s house? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
The Gravity star found herself hiding in a closet, whispering into her phone, as a stalker roamed her house in the middle of the night.
“I’m in my closet. I have a safe door,” Sandra Bullock told the 911 dispatcher, her voice laced with panic (reported by The Guardian). “I’m locked in the closet right now.” On the other side of that door? A man convinced he belonged there.
Joshua James Corbett, the intruder, had been lurking for days. When he finally broke in, he wasn’t carrying weapons, but he did have a black notebook filled with obsessive entries about Bullock, magazine clippings, and a two-page letter professing his love. When police arrived, he muttered, “I’m sorry. I love you, Sandy.”

Think Close Encounters of the Third Kind meets Arrival meets E.T. The Extra Terrestrial meets The Martian meets Gravity and you pretty much have the cinematic inspirations for the latest outer-space entry known simply as The Astronaut, although you have to hand it to debuting writer-director Jess Varley for adding a twist none of the above remotely thought of. Whether audiences will buy it is a larger question for this film, which is premiering at SXSW in the Narrative Spotlight section.
Kate Mara, who was a systems operator in The Martian, this time gets the Matt Damon role of an astronaut, Sam Walker, who is returning to Earth after a very long time in isolation in outer space. Her reentry into society isn’t a smooth one and she is informed she almost died before splashdown due to some sort of mysterious force that physically touched her. Nevertheless, she...

I’ll admit it here – I spent seven whole years thinking Bird Box was just Sandra Bullock’s show. Don’t get me wrong though, she crushed it.
Sandra Bullock in a still from Bird Box (2018) | Credits: Chris Morgan Productions
But recently, something hit me like a blindfolded sprint into a tree: John Malkovich was the real Mvp. The man played the grumpy, no-nonsense cynic so flawlessly that he made everyone around him shine, without actually stealing the spotlight.
His character wasn’t the hero, the villain, or even the emotional anchor. But somehow, he was essential. And now, I can’t unsee it.

The Blind Side is a biographical sports drama starring Sandra Bullock, which experienced a bit of resurgence in recent years. The film received critical acclaim and earned Bullock an Oscar win but became controversial because of some of its tropes and the complex real-life events that ensued after its release.

Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck are two superstars of Hollywood that made their name around the same time. However, while both are Oscar winners who have given us some of the best movies of the current era, Affleck was already a star, when Cooper was struggling to establish himself, in the late 90s.

This, however, led to an unlikely blessing in disguise for Cooper, who auditioned for arguably one of the worst Ben Affleck roles until now. It happened for the 1998-thriller Armageddon, which boasted of superstars such as Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, and Owen Wilson.

Here’s Why Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Never Dated Each Other (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock had binding chemistry in Speed. But despite their on-screen spark, they never dated in real life. What’s even more surprising? They both had crushes on each other but had no idea at the time.

It’s said that all of the greatest movie stars can make the camera fall in love with them. But something else that the camera is undoubtedly besotted by is the casino. There’s something about these places that make them a natural for filmmakers, in fact there are plenty of things.
Firstly, they’re uniquely glamorous locations that are also full of action. From spinning roulette wheels to slots games flashing enticingly, they make for a great background to the action. Then there’s the drama of the games themselves. We see characters winning and losing fortunes on the turn of a card thus reversing their role in the movie.
The fact that conflict lies at the heart of all drama also makes them a great place for adversaries to face off against each other. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the first of out audacious moves.

Oscar nominated movies go through meticulous discussions and careful considerations before becoming a candidate to win the actual award. But sometimes public opinion does not necessarily align with the experts. The audience does not shy away from expressing their opinions—especially when they do not like a movie.
But that doesn’t mean these films aren’t worth watching, they’re entertaining. However, if we start handing out nominations to every entertaining movie, the Academy Awards would lose their value, wouldn’t they? In some cases, these films even overshadowed more deserving contenders, fueling criticism about the very selection process of movie nomination.
In this list, we will look at some of the most controversial and surprising movies nominated for an Academy Award. Without further ado, let’s find out if the movies selected were justified or not.

With a colorful and enduring career spanning two decades, Channing Tatum has certified himself as a fan-favorite actor in Hollywood, with the talented performer starring in a slew of big-screen hits like She's the Man, Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, and Logan Lucky. Tatum is never afraid to let loose and embrace his playful side, and in 2022 the charismatic leading man appeared in two of the biggest films of the year: The Lost City and Bullet Train.
Though he memorably starred alongside Sandra Bullock in the action adventure The Lost City, which went on to be both a critical and commercial knockout, Tatum also made a sidesplitting cameo in the Brad Pitt-led action comedy Bullet Train, both surprising and delighting audiences with his short-yet-entertaining cameo. Observant fans of both the gifted actor and the two popular flicks have picked up on a fun connection between the two blockbuster hits,...

If you were looking to define irony, I have a sobering suggestion: Sandra Bullock, one of the most affably likable actors we've ever seen, has one of the most atrociously unlikable Oscar wins on her resume. The Blind Sidehas gotten so many backyard beatdowns as an embarrassingly dated attempt at faux racial progressivism, and her finally winning the Oscar by donning a cheap blonde wig and a barely passable Southern accent is the rotten cherry on top. I don't want to live in a world where Sandra Bullock doesn't have an Oscar, but it simply shouldn't have been for The Blind Side. It should have been forGravity, the most challenging and meticulous work of her career.

By the time Jack Nicholson came on stage to present Best Picture at the 2006 Academy Awards, most viewers were confident that Ang Lee's gay-themed Western romance Brokeback Mountain (2005) would take home the prize, having already won Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score (as well as the top awards at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs). Instead, upon opening the envelope, a visibly surprised Nicholson declared, "And the Oscar goes to...Crash!"
The victory of writer/director Paul Haggis' sprawling ensemble drama about racial tension in Los Angeles came as a major surprise to many critics, who widely criticized the film's shallow commentary, questionable character arcs, and disjointed narrative. Acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates even called it "The Worst Movie of the Decade."
However, both before and after the Oscars, Crash did have one notable advocate: eminent American film critic Roger Ebert. Ebert, who named Crash the best film of the year,...
