My Top350 Favorite Movies! (From What I Own)
This is my attempt to make my own personal favorite Top350(250 just isn't enough! And 350 is a rather nice number isn't it?), and also build the "perfect" dvd/blu-ray collection at the same time!
This list is in order! At least as much as possible! The trilogies that complete one long story arc over three films, or movies like Kill Bill 1&2 are usually listed after each other.
Also probably many of the movies currently on the list won't end up being on the "Ultimate final list" So consider some of the movies just as "placeholders"(OK, now it has reached the point where about 80% of them would indeed be on the final list!), That is not to say I don't like them, I have little comments on every entry that give some insight why they have made it here.

- DirectorAlex ProyasStarsBrandon LeeMichael WincottRochelle DavisThe night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger.Great characters, story, humor, action, dialogue and atmosphere make this outstanding. The main character is easily the strongest part, being as cool and interesting as he is. A tortured poetic soul that kicks ass, gives deep advice and makes sarcastic jokes. Dark and gritty, yet still leaves you with a feeling that there is always hope ...it can't rain all the time! Quite literally helped to save my life! My personal favorite movie!
- DirectorKevin SmithStarsBrian O'HalloranJeff AndersonMarilyn GhigliottiA day in the lives of two convenience clerks named Dante and Randal as they annoy customers, discuss movies, and play hockey on the store roof. Some of the most hilarious and at the same time thought-provoking dialogue I have heard! This movie also contains the best explanation ever why Empire is the best and most liked SW movies.. and it's deep.. also the same explanation applies to TDK! Jay and Silent Bob have become legends!
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesAlex DeLarge and his droogs barbarize a decaying near-future.Malcolm McDowell steals the show as one the greatest anti-heroes ever(or villains if you prefer), but Kubrick's direction and style make this a work of art. Soo many memorable scenes it's impossible to narrow it down, but the opening scene is the most menacing introduction ever, where nothing really even happens! And you will never think of "Singin' in the rain" like you used to!
- DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsMax von SydowGunnar BjörnstrandBengt EkerotA knight returning to Sweden after the Crusades seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague. This is the film that made me truly appreciate movies and made me into the cinemaniac I am today! It's absolutely breathtaking, from it's fantastic B&W visuals where just a shot or a transition can tell tales to the brilliant performances by everyone included, but especially by Sydow and Enkerot as the most memorable Grim Reaper from the silver screen! The metaphysical, religious and existential themes are handled intellectually and entertainingly while not spoon feeding viewer the "answers". An absolute timeless Masterpiece!
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppMartin LandauSarah Jessica ParkerAmbitious but troubled movie director Edward D. Wood Jr. tries his best to fulfill his dreams despite his lack of talent. The most entertaining biopic ever created! Probably the best of the Burton/Depp collaborations! It Celebrates everything Ed Wood was. It is a strange, funny and a bit sad, but ultimately full of heart and triumphant story of a man who wanted to make movies! The visual style is amazing, the humor spot on and the acting sharp(Landau's Lugosi is AMAZING!).
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen a menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman, James Gordon and Harvey Dent must work together to put an end to the madness.A dark, violent and philosophical comic book Masterpiece, Heath Ledger was in the leading role! Pushes the boundaries what can be done in a "comic book movie". The Joker is among the greatest villains cause his point of view is extreme, but also quite close to being absolutely right, and that is scary! He proves that "it only takes one bad day" in such a graphic and brutal manner that it's bound to make an impression and make you see things a little differently!
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsHenry FondaCharles BronsonClaudia CardinaleA mysterious stranger with a harmonica joins forces with a notorious desperado to protect a beautiful widow from a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.Perhaps the greatest western that Leone made. Everything about it is just epic and oozes style. The cinematography, music, story and definitely the characters are great. From the (in)famous opening scene till the last shot is fired, it's a thrilling ride for sure!
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.Tarantino's greatest work, combines different stories which intertwine and make one grand tale! Blurs the line between heroes and villains and features some of the most unforgettable dialogue. You gotta see it!
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg. The greatest sci-fi/action movie ever made! It blew my mind when I saw it first as a kid, and it only gets better with each viewing! It has a solid plot, sort of a cautionary tale. It's certainly a rather dark movie, but definitely has lighter and even funny moments in there too. After more than two decades there still are only a few movies that even come close to this, I don't think it will be outdone anytime soon.. if ever!
- 19641h 35mPG8.3 (528K)97MetascoreDirectorStanley KubrickStarsPeter SellersGeorge C. ScottSterling HaydenAn unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop. Now this is some seriously funny stuff gentlemen! You gotta see it yourself, it's(probably) the end of the world as we know it, and we feel more than fine! We take it with a happy dose of sarcasm and black humor! :) I absolutely love it!
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodEli WallachLee Van CleefA bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery. The biggest and most epic of the "Dollars trilogy". The gangs all here from the previous instalments, and boy do they deliver! The three titular characters are all great, going through (mis)adventures amidst the the civil war as they search for the buried treasure! The score is AMAZING! Metallica uses "Ecstasy of gold" to open their shows!
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader. The beginning of perhaps the greatest(original)adventure in cinema history! But to say it's "original" is perhaps only half true.. it borrows themes and archetypes from samurai movies to westerns, from greek Myths to Biblical stories and ties them all together to make an incredible story that is easy to relate to and love!
- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter the Empire overpowers the Rebel Alliance, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda. At the same time, Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett pursue his friends across the galaxy. The most loved of all the SW movies. Has incredible action sequences and also moves the story along very nicely. Some of the key moments have become legendary and are truly emotional. From the incredible looking opening battle on Hoth to the closing scenes in and around of Cloud City it's just wonderful.
- DirectorRichard MarquandStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the Rebel Alliance attempts to destroy the second Death Star while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader back from the dark side. The conclusion to the saga(so far)! Some say it's the weakest of the original trilogy(it's debatable!), and well even the weakest of the OT would be really damn good! The speeder chase in the beautiful forest of Endor is really cool. And the ending duel together with everything that comes right before and after it, is really memorable and still spectacular to look at.
- DirectorSidney LumetStarsHenry FondaLee J. CobbMartin BalsamThe jury in a New York City murder trial is frustrated by a single member whose skeptical caution forces them to more carefully consider the evidence before jumping to a hasty verdict.Simply the best courtroom drama ever made. The tension, twists and the overall pacing are great and make the movie so entertaining and thought provoking. And it's technically 12 guys in one room arguing... it's freakin' brilliant!
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsKevin SpaceyGabriel ByrneChazz PalminteriThe sole survivor of a pier shoot-out tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup. One of the best "whodunnit" type crime movies. A good cast of interesting characters, good dialogue and great performances. With definitely a GREAT mystery and an even GREATER villain!
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.Probably the best "serial killer movie" I have ever seen. Somewhat thought-provoking and really intense troughout, with great performances from the cast. Also has one of the most unforgettable endings!
- DirectorBarry LevinsonStarsRobert De NiroKevin BaconBrad PittAfter a prank goes disastrously wrong, a group of boys are sent to a detention center where they are brutalized. Thirteen years later, an unexpected random encounter with a former guard gives them a chance for revenge.Really like this one, such a powerful movie about childhood, friendship, lost innocence, suffering, spirit, hope, freedom and ofcourse revenge... A brilliant film!
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRobert Downey Jr.Val KilmerMichelle MonaghanAfter being mistaken for an actor, a New York thief is sent to Hollywood to train under a private eye for a potential movie role, but the duo are thrown together with a struggling actress into a murder mystery.I guess it's a really good murder mystery with a heavy dose of dark comedy and a touch of neo-noir. But it's so well written, is so funny and has such a great dialogue that it becomes more than the sum of it's parts. RDJ and Val Kilmer are both really good!
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorWith the Clone Wars coming to it's end, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot for galactic domination.Heroes fall, villains rise and the legend begins! The one prequel that could! Good that it's the only one we actually need and works well for explaining things(after you have seen the originals!!!)
It has some little problems sure, but the epic moments more than make up for them! The score is absolutely perfect and Obi-Wan delivering "Hope" to Tatooine in the end.. Also Sidious is an amazing villain, Ian McDiarmid - You'll love to hate this guy! - DirectorAkira KurosawaStarsToshirô MifuneMinoru ChiakiIsuzu YamadaA war-hardened general, egged on by his ambitious wife, works to fulfill a prophecy that he would become lord of Spider's Web Castle.Kurosawa's take on Macbeth, truly magnificent! From the ominous premonition in the Cobweb forest till the end it has a great atmosphere. mifune is absolutely great in this and his characters demise is one of the most memorable ever! Probably my favourite film from Kurosawa.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroRay LiottaJoe PesciThe story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia, covering his relationship with his wife Karen and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito.Love the story, love the characters, love the actors, love the director, love the soundtrack and love the movie! If you even remotely like gangster/mob movies, then you simply need to see this!
- DirectorAkira KurosawaStarsToshirô MifuneMachiko KyôMasayuki MoriThe rape of a bride and the murder of her samurai husband are recalled from the perspectives of a bandit, the bride, the samurai's ghost and a woodcutter.Really good story and great B&W cinematography make this a masterpiece. Brilliant camera angles and exquisite use of light and shadow create amazing scenes that make a haunting and thought-provoking story come to life.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsBrad PittDiane KrugerEli RothIn Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same.If you like good dialogue, you will love this movie. All of the actors do a good job, but Christoph Waltz makes such a great and interesting villain, and that while acting in 3 or 4 different languages! I'ts amazing how it can be so funny and so scary/disturbing right after that or even at the same time! Some of the memorable scenes are obvious tributes or homages, but never bland rip-offs!
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnthony PerkinsJanet LeighVera MilesA secretary on the run for embezzlement takes refuge at a secluded California motel owned by a repressed man and his overbearing mother.Starts off as a somewhat typical Hitchcock movie, but turns into something you won't expect.. One of the creepiest movies I know, and Anthony Perkins does an amazing job portraying Norman Bates as this subtle and seemingly harmless, but definitely eerie guy! My favourite Hitchcock movie!
