I utilize Jellyfish to gauge my team's performance in relation to Jira stories. I monitor my team's throughput on a sprint-by-sprint basis. Jellyfish provides me with precise sprint-wise data by keeping track of the completed number of Jira stories, enabling me to assess the balance between committed work and ad-hoc work delivered by each team member. I'm not a fan of the way Jellyfish reports on DORA metrics. The data is not real-time and there's a 24-hour lag, which makes it really challenging to report on live DORA metrics. It's a lot of work to delete all the draft MRs, which affects the actual CLT calculation. Manually deleting the records from the log adds to the difficulty, and it takes another 24 hours to update the data. It would be really beneficial for Jellyfish to make DORA reporting real-time so that it can stand out as a leader in its domain. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish has unlocked levels of visibility into current product development work that we've never had before. We now track all of our quarterly commitments and can easily see which projects are on-track or off track, which are seeing scope creep and which teams may need help. It took a long time to get Jellyfish fully integrated with Jira and git and actually working for us effectively. Team adoption is a struggle, but that can be true of any new tool. Overall it took real dedication from the Jellyfish team and our supporting staff to make the tool effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish creates quality interactive visualizations of engineering performance data that would typically take days to pull together by hand. If anything looks wonky, you can click into the chart and find the source of the discrepancy easily. They consistently update their product, adding new planning features and allowing the user to set sutom views. Our engineering and product teams utilize JF to track delivery - very helpful. The only downsides I see are that some quality of life features aren't in the platform yet, and there is limited customization. However, this is due to it being a relatively young product. Every suggestion I've had has been taken by our CSM and we hear updates all the time. They also have a user forum for feedback. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I find Jellyfish very useful when it comes to tracking all the work, it's amazing all the details it shows about what you have in Jira. In my case I use it a lot to see week by week what we have worked on, category, ticket work cycles, number of revisions, pages created in confluence. In short, it is a very necessary tool that makes it easier to control and manage your work.
Update: After more than one year since my last review I can confirm that Jellyfish continues helping me to track all the tasks managed by my team. The section I consult the most is the Team & Unit Dashboard to measure the efforts per week in detail. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far nothing serious, I don't think I have explored all the potential that Jellyfish have. Almost every time I have had a question or wanted to consult some data, a colleague or the person who manages it has helped me.
Update: I still think the same as I said more than a year ago, I still have a lot to discover about Jellyfish, but I have no complaints about what I use on a daily basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The tool delivers insights for the executive staff, individual teams, and managers. We found things to improve within days of deploying Jellyfish. It provides meaningful metrics for measuring engineering productivity.
Over time we have seen a big uptake from the individual team managers as they start to learn more about the different tools and features on offer. Different managers are getting value from the tool in ways that we did not anticipate. Integrating Jellyfish across the organization has helped highlight areas for process improvement, in addition to giving us actionable metrics.
The support team is highly responsive and helpful and works with us to ensure our custom needs are met. I wish all our vendors were this engaged. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Nothing to dislike with Jellyfish and I cannot wait to see what future features they deliver. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish is quickly growing and listening to their customers' needs.
They have many great ways to organize and report on utilization metrics and adjust for our organization's needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
They are going through fast growth and changes. This requires extra attention to keep up with the pace of change and added functionality.
Being a newer product, they are also still missing some functionality that ultimately will be needed around admin control and configuration.
They cannot handle manual FTE time reporting for staff who do not show signals in JIRA. Many types of work go into the capitalization of software, not just engineers; unfortunately, Jellyfish can not capture these staff members today. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This is a must have for Scrum Masters, Engineering Managers, Project/Program Managers and software Finance.
As a Scrum Master, I used, on a daily basis, sprint reporting, deliverables & metrics pages in JellyFish.
And at a project/program level, the new Capacity Planner (currently in Alpha roll-out) is a major game-changer!
For Finance, it is a great solution for Software Capitalization and also spend-tracking per project based on FTEs and the great tracking algorithms that touch not only on Jira but also Git - as well as other software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I dislike how the Deliver pages are split between Deliverables In-Progress and Completed Deliverables. It requires that I have to do 2 pulls of data and combine them into 1 spreadsheet when doing calculations that span a timeframe. I feel like that should be an optional setting so I can grab everything I need in 1 pull. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish provides timely metric information and the ability to customise the data that is being displayed to give our Product Delivery team the insights they need to improve the way in which we work. The comparison feature between our team and other teams within our company also helps us understand where we are at in reference to others in the company. Would definately recommend. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Would be great to able to customise views based on when our sprints start and finish, but we can work around that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For me showing our engineering allocation. I can see at a glance where our efforts are going (feature work, bugs, system hygiene). I can also track work against expected completion dates to help identify potental blockers. I love that I can look at metrics by individual engineering teams or across my whole department. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Wish we could have closer to real-time updates. We do nightly updates from Jira, so sometimes I have to wait until the next day to see changes made to epics, stories, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish has been an amazing addition to our organization's ability to understand development efforts from the IC level all the way up to the Executive Team. Implementation and integration with was pretty straight forward once we understood what we wanted to measure. The team at Jellyfish is great to work with and they go above and beyond to make sure we're getting the most out of the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As features mature, sometimes access to them through the UI changes which can be a little disruptive Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Am I doing better or worse than my team mates? Am I doing more or less work than them? My entire career I have been pondering these questions, trying to guess the answers. Now, Jellyfish gives me the answer. Not just that, I can see how each person evolves over time, I can help the ones struggling and worry less. I feel more focused. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I can't compare myself against average people in my position, outside the organization. How do I compare to the world? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish gives us a better view of _what_ the team (or org, or company) is working on. Being able to drill down from teams or orgs to people and metrics about their activity is useful. Not from a "big brother" standpoint but to help drive 1:1 conversations and improve how the team works.
I've used the release planner functionality to show distractions and help gain data to prove to leadership we need additional engineers to help complete a project. It hooks into many of our other systems to give a single pane of glass view into our metrics.
Setup was pretty easy. Once we provided API keys to downstream systems, data was loading in the first week. There are some customizations we can do for categories, hierarchy and organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes it's tough to track down what the data means. There's user data consolidation that sometimes has to occur (multiple git users). No APIs to pull data for automation/other systems. There are a number of features that don't seem to be self-service and requires reaching out to support to make changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish allows me to easily see where our engineering teams are focusing their time, which allows us to capacity plan and understand how to allocate our resources. This also lets us see if there are any surprising ways we are spending our time. It is easy to set up the allocation rules. In addition, I've recently started using the metrics and goals to be able to understand trends within our organization.
I've always received timely responses from their support teams and am also starting to use their community, Bloom, to undertand best practices on using the platform.
I definitely want to explore using more of their tools, like scenario planning, to understand the health of our work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A small thing - their DevOps metrics currently live in a different page than the rest of the metrics, which can be a bit confusing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This tool is really useful on so many ways
From an exec side, Jellyfish helps identify where teams spend their efforts relatively to the company strategic objectives. We are even starting to use for financial reporting as it'll sreiously reduce manual overheads.
From the team side, Jellyfish is great at providing insights on how the team work and interact so that they can identify areas of improvement. By comparing with other teams or benchmarked companies, we can better understand our strengths and weaknesses.
The company regularly roll out new ways of using the tool to provide even better clarity on our delivery capabilities, I can't wait to get them rolled out to my engineering managers Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am still missing integration to get additional sources when outside of jira, as some of our teams are not using it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It provides a very rich set of cues as to what is going well and what can be improved. It manages to convey this at a glance and provides a helpful tool to see what might be overlooked in the day-to-day and provide further insight into development processes.
Being able to see where work is being performed and how much has also helped with more realistic resource allocation. We may plan for a certain amount of time to be spent on bugs or specific projects, but seeing the actual spread helps with adjusting plans and expectations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If there is any downside it is the wealth of different displays and information. If you are looking for specific information, it might be a little tricky to find the exact dashboard you want, but you quickly become accustomed to the UI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Instant insights about myself and how the team is doing
- Easy to identify bottlenecks in our team
- Metrics are easy and intiutive to understand so it's very fast to act upon
- Great dashboard
Updates:
- Still using Jellyfish and now a bit more familiar with the metrics to dig deeper
- dashboard is still pretty handy and provides most of the information you need Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Easy configuration, as of now any config change has to be done via the service route and that takes time to reflect into our data Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Lots of ways to see what needs immeidate attention, and what can wait Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish doesn't really allow customizable reporting, outside of some specific guidelines they have in place. There'd be a huge market for the ability to treat it like a playground BI platform that allowed for more exploratory analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish has enabled us to look at our engineering data meaningfully. This has allowed us to better manage our teams, share information across the organization, and showcase our work to our leadership team.
In addition, Jellyfish is open to our suggestions and has made product enhancements that help us even more! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is so much information in Jellyfish, and I have hear feedback from my teams that it takes time to learn the 'clicks' to get to the information most important to each role. As folks use Jellyfish more, this is less of an issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability to visualize what your team is doing. Tracking project delivery and projecting our goals is amazing, it's great to back data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are some calculations that are a bit off and aren't customizable enough to our organization. It's continuing to improve in this regard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Jellyfish has saved me SO MUCH TIME. I used to gather everything from Jira. That included writing complex queries, exporting to excel, and then massaging that data to create the visuals I needed. I'm not great a writing jqueries, so it took way longer than it should have. Jellyfish literally does all of that and spits it out in beautiful visuals. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would love to see average velocity calculated. Jira doesn't do that any longer, so having an automated widget to view that would be great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Intuitive UI, plenty of data and analytics due to a great integration with Jira, to help make important decisions. Abundance of learning resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A bit of a learning curve for first time users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The dashobard which gives the summary of the Teams / People in one view. And it navigates to each individual items very detailed.
Jellyfish gives metrics of Sprint Predictability and Cycle Time which help Scrum Master to work with team to improve the story proints. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Help topic which some users finding diffculty to find. Cannot customize metrics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Amount of actionable operational metrics with easy configuration & integration setup
- Visualizations of data
- Software capitalization reporting capabilities
- Responsive customer support Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Automated email progress reports are only limited to specific epic and not groups of epics/initiatives or entire portfolio. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The visibility into project statuses and staff engagement/focus is a game changer. Driving some solid SCM and Jira hygiene to yield nearly fully automated DevFinOps CapEx reporting is a big time saver. The product team engages very well on feedback and opportunities to improve the product. I'd highly recommend. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While JellyFish is doing great updating and adding some of the core features, sometimes the small stuff seems delayed which would help the usability. This is minor in comparison to the overall value JellyFish provides. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the jellyfish UI is very easy to use and navigate. they have a very wide range of metrics on offer and several different perspective you can view from i.e. team, individual, departments etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a couple metrics which could be improved i.e. PR Reviews and PR Cycle time slightly more configurability with these metrics would be helpful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
