Li Qiang Meets with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa

On the afternoon of September 3, 2024, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and for a state visit, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.

Li Qiang said that China and Zimbabwe enjoy profound traditional friendship. President Xi Jinping held talks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and decided to jointly build a high-level China-Zimbabwe community with a shared future, which will further deepen bilateral relations. China and Zimbabwe are true friends who can trust and rely on each other, and the two countries firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests. China is ready to work with Zimbabwe to follow the course charted by the two heads of state, always view and develop bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, strengthen the synergy of development strategies, strive to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Li Qiang pointed out that China is ready to further deepen cooperation with Zimbabwe in key areas such as agriculture, mining, infrastructure construction and connectivity, continuously expand cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, digital economy and other fields, and foster new highlights of bilateral cooperation and new economic growth drivers. China encourages capable and creditworthy Chinese enterprises to invest in Zimbabwe and hopes that Zimbabwe will provide more convenience and support for Chinese enterprises operating in Zimbabwe. China is also ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Zimbabwe in multilateral fields, promote the international order and global governance to develop in a more just and reasonable direction, and better safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South countries.

Emmerson Mnangagwa congratulated China on the remarkable achievements it has made under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China. He said that Zimbabwe and China enjoy brotherly friendship, and Zimbabwe always remembers China's firm support for Zimbabwe's national liberation and sincerely thanks China for its long-term sincere assistance to Zimbabwe's economic and social development. Zimbabwe firmly abides by the one-China principle, and supports the principle of "One Country, Two Systems", and supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. Zimbabwe is ready to work with China to maintain close high-level exchanges between the two countries and between the two parties, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, agriculture, science and technology, education, women and climate change under the frameworks of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the FOCAC. Zimbabwe is also ready to enhance coordination with China on the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between Zimbabwe and China to achieve greater development from a new starting point. Zimbabwe is ready to work with China to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and inject new impetus into the in-depth development of Africa-China relations.
